Great stuff Doug! Your videos are by far the best when it comes to explaining things like this keep it up man. This is what we've been missing all year
ILL Musky Hunter thanks for taking time to watch them means a lot! Winter is my time for videos spring, summer, and fall are to busy guiding. More good stuff to come!
Did a lot of research looking at mapping on units before fishing Clearwater & Pipestone. Garmin products have an outline of Clearwater (also known as Burditt Lake) that shows you the perimeter of the lake. Would be the best of both worlds if you could access LakeVu maps on Humminbird units with Autochart Live. However, thats part of the test/fun when going to uncharted lakes like Pipestone/Clearwater. The Cedar Island Lodge crew did a great job at buffering our learning curve btw! Hope this info helps.
That’s cool Doug. Think I would keep those SIM cards close to the vest for the rest of your life! Tell Jessie she’s a wimp for me! Good fishing to you!
I kinda recognize were your at. Have a place there are you over by the giraffe island. The Clear Water area musky and northern is some of the best you can ever fish. Not crazy about the one rod rule or the walleye limits. Hope you shot more video in this area.
Start running transect lines with your Auto Chart. Head 0 degrees North for 1/2 mile. Turn right and head 90 degrees East for 1/2 mile. Turn right and head 180 South for a 1/2 mile. Turn right and head 270 West for a 1/2 mile and you're back where you started at. You now have a square 1/2 mile outline auto chart on your unit. Now pick a corner of the square and diagonally chris cross the square to form an X in the middle of your 1/2 mile square. Now run transect lines North and South, East and West, say every 1/8 mile apart. to fill in the square and complete the map. Every time a transect line crosses another you fix that position and depth more accurately. You can pick whatever size square you want. I used a 1/2 mile for ease of explanation. Sure it can take some time but on a lake like you're at here with no map, and you plan to fish it often, it's the only way to get an accurate map and not miss anything.
Nice fish Doug! I have a question regarding a setting on your Helix 10. I notice you run "North Up", is there a reason why you prefer that vice having your current heading always up? Reason I ask is cuz I have mine running current heading up almost all the time (like 98%) but I do have a little trouble hooking up with spots I'm looking for... (I have a console steering set-up). Thanks in advance!
Ken Brown it’s honestly just what I’m used to i wish I had a more detailed answer for you. I also like the fact that just the boat moves on the screen vs the map or gps screen less movement is less of a distraction for me at least. Thanks for watching!
Doug, did you just take the autochart zero lines card out of the unit on your boat, and put it in that unit? Is it that easy to take your charts with you?
Would you have any tips on how to repair broken lips on crank baits? I have some 13" baits with busted lips. Thanks for explaining auto chart, hoping to upgrade by spring.
Please tell me why I cannot see my shaded path as I am charting when using auto chart live. Software is updated and is gn4 unit. What screen do I go to after hitting record and what settings to get the shaded area each side of boat to show as I chart?

Big O's Bucktails correct that same chip has all of my Green Bay and Canada info on it! All you need is a helix unit.

Phil Hoeppner I do not sorry. Auto chart and mega side imaging will put more fish in your bit if you use them no doubt!
