Got my first muskie rod a few years ago ... Tackle Industries telescopic 9' X heavy action 60/130lb. Line rating ..
I know most muskie fishermen have this thing about these rods and nothing else will do,... not true,.. I have found that all these musrods are basically scaled down surf rods ,.. Im saying this because.. recently,.. I purchased another muskie rod.. same brand but longer..telescopic 10'6" X heavy action ,... its very simular to my 11' surfcasting rod ... there's no difference in action or power ... rips those big plastic swimbaits all day long with ease because of a longer butt section.... its worth checking out..🤙😎👍
Do you like The shimano tranx 400's? I love their solid feel and power
What ratio reel do you recommend for bucktails
What would you recommend for a heavy pulling bait reel (double 10 bucktails etc.)? Right now I’m looking at the Diawa lexa TW 400P-P, lexa HD 400PWR-P, the Okuma Komodo SS KDS-436P, shimano tranx 500, and the Diawa Prorex 400P-P. I would prefer a solid line pickup (in terms of spool size) and a gear ratio of 5.3:1 5.1:1 4.3:1 or 4.1:1
Lexa 400 TW 5.3:1
Canadians for Trump
Good vid, as always...but damn! You may wanna consider a little sunscreen on that nose buddy! That looks 2nd degree..😆
Freshwater Warfare yea it gets bad in the summer
@@dougwegnerfishing do you still offer guided trips ? For some reason I can’t pull up your website
You inspired me to get my first 10' rod, I'm 6' 1" and my boat sits up high in the bow, so 10' was a must for me. I may try doing figure 8s in back of the boat like you said this year though. I paired up the 10' tackle industries rod with the Daiwa Prorex 400 that has 43 inches per crank, can't wait to try this with the Strike King 8.0 along with single and double bucktails. I would have got a Daiwa Lexa TW that has the stainless steel pinion and extra bearing, but they didn't have the left hand 400 in the 8.1 gear ratio, not sure why Daiwa did that. But oh well, won't be using the ProRex in cold weather anyways, mostly my 400 Tranxs... Great videos man, keep up the great work!
Great video new to your channel greetings from Chicago Illinois I love muskies make sure u check mines out
What kind off reel are you using I’ve been looking at the daiwa lexa wn4000 or the tranx 400 ahg.......I’ve been trying to go for the big ones up in Minnesota at leech lake would love for a little direction to help me out.thank you Invanz to get the big ones!!!!
Jeff Netz I like the Daiwa Lexa HD 400s great reels!
I have a 8’6 XH rod ...looking to add a second rod...any advice?
Longer the better!
Skip the 9'6" they too big. 8.5 is perfect
If I’m just getting in to musky fishing and I’m only buying one rod what power of rod should I buy? Heavy xh xxh?
scott b XH
Doug Wegner Fishing Can I throw Bulldogs or Medusa’s on it occasionally or is it not suitable for those lures
Yes I can throw pounders on my thorne XH no problem
Doug Wegner Fishing ok thanks for answering my questions
split grip or full grip for bucktails. I only use the 300 size reel, not the 400 power handle because with the light bucktails the heavier the line they dont go as far. What you recommend FH or SH grip for the rod?
Joshua Bettin full cork for a thorne rod and split grip for a st.croix 10’er
@@dougwegnerfishing what about 9ft rd, split grip, whats easier to cast?
Joshua Bettin depends on the rod manufacturer the longer the rear grip length the longer you will be able to cast
What length rear do you have on those 9'10" Rods I'm looking into get a thorns custom for mag Dawgs and double dawgs next year
18”s
Thanks -- Always enjoy videos when your talking about products . Never to much information .
Damn bro, use some sunscreen lol. Great vid!
I like your Videos Doug Ive been interested in the same Lund boat can you give some feedback on where you rate it compared to previous boats thanks
Bought a xh predator this year. Love it. When do you not use the xh. Talked to a bunch of the guys at thornes. They recommended a h-2 to get for smaller bucktails and topwaters. How does this blank compare. I'm in northern WI and no one's has a predator near me.
They are spot on the H-2 is my spring rod and topwater rod!
What's the brand and model of the net in this vid?
doug where can i find a grabb-it tool online??
Hey Doug, I’m new subscriber to your channel, not new to musky fishing, but I love love all your content! One question, I’m a disabled angler in a wheelchair and I don’t have the leverage and power to throw really big baits on big rods. The longest musky rod I own/use is a 7’2 MHF and I throw everything with it, but my figure 8’s are lacking, what can I do to make them better given the setup I have?
A short 6” leader will help make your turns much wider!
Do you not use a snap just a split ring on your leaders??
Great video Doug!
Chad Clark thanks for watching
Hi Doug, what pliers did you use in this video?
Will have these for sale soon keep an eye on my socials
Well done! :)
