Guitar offcut project : building a chair

- Опубліковано 3 сер 2021
- I had a few commenters on my videos worried about the "HUGE AMOUNT OF WASTE WOOD" I produced with my guitar builds, and in my last video I explained that I started woodworking by working exclusively with scrap wood.
I still have the same philosophy today: I very rarely buy wood to make one specific project, every once in a while I go to the lumber yard and buy one rough sawn board, because I ran out of boards big enough for my projects or because I decided to learn to work with a new species, then I turn every single, tiniest, part of that board into something.
If you're new to woodworking, here's my advice: it's a very fun way to learn! When you work with the original board, then the offcuts of your initial project, then the offcuts of those offcuts etc. , the projects get smaller and smaller, and you'll automatically learn new aspect of the craft and explore the whole range of the wood you picked, from a kitchen table, to a toothpick holder.
Anyway, a movie is better than a thousand confused words, I'll let you see what I did with One Piece Guitar Offcuts ...
From furniture to guitar. From guitar to furniture. The circle is complete. That's a haiku (no it's not).

See you at the next guitar build! (sooooooooooon)
I love these little glimpses of family, even just the happy sounds of kids playing in the background. It's a little burst of joy that feels right at place in your videos.
Thanks ! It was so hard to film, my son kept touching both cameras :p
@@tchiksguitars I bet. And i'm not even going to mention all the bits you had to cut out where they were screaming at each other (my kids are about the same age and that's pretty much how it is)
@@AlexanderElse you know the struggle !
for the first half of this video I was thinking "that is gonna be a funky looking guitar"
When you think about it, you can see it as a very oddly shaped guitar
sure you can install EMG pickups and strings and play some baby-metall
Mate, I'm going to admit, your videos, actually inspired me to start building guitars. I have this workshop, and I was doing very little with it. It's the lack of commentary, that struck me. Cheers.
Your*
Just wanna say, are you into DCS? Just saw you were subscribed to Spud and Redkite
Also inspired me.. it was the hand tools tele build for me
@@diacoal2433 maybe 🤣
@@napewnoniemarcin7915 man I hope this is your day job.
This whole video is therapy. The making, the recycling, the laughter of children.
Another job well done. You are a true artist.
Thank you !
beautiful chair. Whichever one of them get it when they grow up will also have a fine chair for their kids too. That one looks built to last.
Thanks ! They do enjoy it for now :)
I love that moment where the finish goes on and the wood reveals itself.
That's my favorite moment too. That and the first time my son sat on it :)
You are inspiring to watch. I’m getting my shop in order to get myself working.
Yay. That's the whole purpose of this channel
I love tchiks guitar work videos.
And I love all the guitars made by guitar tchiks.
Best quality I've ever seen.
If only I could have one of those guitars on my birthday..
i feel very happy..
but I thought maybe it was just a dream
8:48 Damn, that's a nice technique for holding the wood. Just using a screw in a piece of junk wood, I'm definitely going to try to remember this when I'm working with smaller pieces of wood again.👍
I've probably seen that somewhere :) the magic of UA-cam hehe
This is the most adorable place on the internet 🤗
Aaaaw
That was really cool, I always wanted to see you build a piece of furniture and it was fun to watch. The new owner of the chair also seemed to be quite pleased with the results. I have to agree with Alexander Else, seeing your children interact with you in your shop adds a touch of humanity, family and joy! I think I may have a bass inside me that wants to come out, it's just a matter now of figuring out how to get some free space out in the shop. It's set up for mechanical work, not wood working. Time will tell. Take care my friend and please keep amazing me.
The only sad thing that comes out of good craftsmanship is waste. Of materials, of family time, of sharing the acquired skills
and you, sir, seem to have understood that very well.
Salutations, santé, cheers de montreal.
You get it :)
You are an artist my friend!! Your little buddy is going to enjoy that beautiful chair a lot!
Thank you ! He is already
You made nice use of the cut offs from your great one piece guitar build you did well Done.
Man… I love this so much!
Thanks man !
Oh how I have longed for you next video!! I am a few weeks into building my first bass! It's so much fun :D Thanks for the inspiration!! Stay safe and happy :) MD-Australia
Thank you ! I'll release a new video very soon. A guitar this time. Good luck with your bass!
You are a true artist my man. Thanks again for sharing an amazing piece of art in both the woodwork and the film.
Terrific craftsmanship on that mini-chair! At first, I had guessed that you were making a guitar holder rack. 😉👍🎸
Naaa. Too predictable :D
Magnifique!! couldn't be a better use for those bits!!!!
what a lovely use of the spare wood!
Beauty in simplicity!
Beautiful video! ❤️
Fabulous.
Now we have more than one project to view that beautiful slab of wood. Great build!
Thanks !
Very nice!!!
Que maravilla de trabajo. Que excelente profesional.te felicito amigo!! 👏👏👍😉

@@tchiksguitars I really hope other UA-camrs follow your example
You mad lad. That looks amazing! Outstanding job. I hope it holds up well!
I also hope so, that kid is a savage :D
Been anxiously awaiting a new video!
I'm here now haha
Respect to so guys!
This man is exceptional...how to say this, rare species haha, all by himself, 'architect, designer, mathematicians , woodworkers and great musician as well..so creative. The right tools at the woodshop is accountable too, would you please name all the necessary tools used?
Thanks for this! I loved it and it helped my 3-year-old son fall asleep 😆🙌
Haha I wish it worked on mine
So cute 🥰
Beautiful work and video!
Thanks !
Sir you are a fine craftsman and father 🙏🏻
Thank you !
Très belle finition et super bonne idée de récupère surtout actuellement bravo
Fantastique. Avec les restes de la chaise d'enfant, papa a fait une guitare. Tres impressionant. Felicitations.
Haha
u deserve a million subscribers!
Haha, I'd be fine With 100k
Very underrated video
That's also my opinion :D
@@tchiksguitars :") yeah
Also hello I love ur videos u r very cool
GGBO 2022, turning the chair into a guitar!
Haha I thought of that
Awesome work!!! You have inspired me a lot. What finish did you use?
Sir, you are a great luthier and an excellent father! I like your videos. They always make me smile ;)
And, btw, I thought that you were going to make a drum, ha-ha
I've been wanting to make a snare drum since forever
@@tchiksguitars I made a cajon a few weeks ago. Could not be more happy with the result! It works in a mix as drums. And it's a good one musical instrument ;)
@@rosunreal6044 the cajon is the first instrument I ever made, I Know the feeling !
Just so you know, youre amazing
Aaw thanks
Should have made a shelf to replace the one you stole.
Beautiful work as always, and making something tough and practical for your little ones is also very special.
I also love your Veritas jointer plane - it’s OK to show the world you’re incredibly wealthy. You must be descended from European royalty to afford such a thing? Or perhaps you married well into a family of oil tycoons or a Kardashian? Either way, nice flex bro.
Thank you but that's not a veritas plane :) it's a Stanley n°62, one of my very first and few planes haha
I didn't get what he was building until it became extremely obvious lol
Beautiful video
Ahahaha. It's hard to tell the story of a chair
👍👌💯
Next video: "I built a Guitar out of chair out of the one piece guitar OFFCUTS"
サイトの名前が以前は…furnitureだったような気がしますが、ギターも家具も素晴らしい。
На восьмой минуте видео начал понимать, что нас обманывают)
12:50 proff that the chair has kids resistance
Indeed ! He keeps throwing that chair all around all the time
À quand un saxophone? 💚
Did you make that hand saw jig?
Yes I did but I've recently upgraded it with wheel bearings
NEW VIDEO!!!
Indeed. New one coming real soon
@@tchiksguitars oh yeah!
did you also editing your whole videos?
Mate the fact that you haven’t got a patreon yet is a travesty, I’ve never signed up for one but I’ve learned so much here that I want to give back, and I’m sure at least a few others do as well. Couldn’t hurt, do you have any plans for that or is this strictly non-profit?
That's so thoughtful ! I'm merely giving back to the internet (without which I wouldn't be building anything at all) and I don't need more. But again thank you !!!
Not as fun as watching a guitar build, but I enjoyed the video nonetheless, keep the videos coming, maybe a little quicker! Lol,you are fun to watch
Haha thanks. Next video will be out soon
0:29 -- Sometimes it's the little touches that seem to have nothing directly to do with the build.
11:50 -- Or do they?
Ahah. I always keep those triangular offcuts, so useful !
hai👋can you to make a shark guitar like a brook one piece🎸
hahahahahah the moment he takes "and furniture" out of his name me makes furniture
You're the second to notice !
Just put strings on it!
Haha. Maybe I will. I have a silly project in mind
Try make a violin
I know it's a more advanced project but I think you would do very well
In a few decades maybe :)
Tsk... shoulda built a shelf
