I carved a guitar out of a SINGLE BLOCK OF WOOD

- This is build n°9, and my 6th guitar build!
I'm lucky enough to be part of the invitational participants of this year's Great Guitar Build Off competition (I don't really know why, maybe some intern made a mistake and now they have to stick with it ... anyway, I'm here now).
After making a guitar out of a shelf and then a guitar using only one hand, the next step was logical: making a guitar out of one single piece of wood.
I know that this is not a unique concept, but one-piece guitars are rare enough to make a video like this visually interesting, and challenging enough to be fun to build.
Alternatively I could have used a CNC and shot 20 minutes of slo-mo volute and side sanding, and close-ups of a tiny saw cutting out the CNC tabs (still in slow-mo), but I like building more than I like filming and editing :)
This guitar is the first one that I'll ever sell, and it's for a good cause: once auctioned, all the benefits from the sale are going to a charity. Mine is going to " Infirmiers de rue " (Street Nurses), an organization which aims at ending homelessness in Brussels through on-site healthcare and rehousing.
The link is here: the auction will end on July 2 so place your bid if you want this unique guitar to be yours www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1545026150...

In any language, the sweetest words are, “yes just don’t tell Mom”.
Truth !

Imagine being a woodworker, know how to play and BUILD a guitar, be able to edit and record a very hugh quality video
You can learn all of that, nobody is born a guitar builder, a woodworker or a video editor :) 4 years ago I couldn't do any of the stuff I show here !
@@tchiksguitarsIf you learned all if this in only 4 years that is extremely impressive still, you definitely have the natural artistic talent for this.
@@tchiksguitars where’d you learn it from?
The internet and my own experimentations. I watched tutorials when I was ignorant of everything, just to get the basics and everything snowballed from there.
@@tchiksguitars 4 years is pretty amazing, to be honest.
This guy had a guitar stuck in a piece of wood and was able to set it free. Great job man!
I'll start an alternative to free tibet (and free britney)
@@tchiksguitars Think you need a slightly different slogan, "Free guitar" might give the wrong idea and lead to some disapointment ;)

Damn Son… you are good!
Please tell me you named the guitar “Moon Dust”!
@@glenclarkchidley3637 Let's start a petition to name it Moon Dust of he doesn't.
Seems like the hardest part for him had to be, that he noticed that guitar inside. Freeing it seemed too easy.
When people wonder why handcrafted stuff is so expensive you can just show them this video. Amazing build!
Thanks !
I fear that people who think that way wouldn't get it no matter what 🤣
When your child is all grown up and you’re an old man, they are gonna remember and cherish the memories they had with their pops playing with small wood chips on the floor as he built his guitars ❤️
I sure hope so. I'll force feed them those videos anyway so they'll remember and cherish the memories :)
as long as they dont tell their mother :p
they will. i'm a grown woman (i'll be 23 this sunday). and i hate cooking but i still remember baking cakes and cookies with my dad when i was 10 because he made it fun
@@dianamagritte5079 ‘grown woman’ 😂😂😂
And she will grow up to be a great luthier, a great musician, or maybe both.
This is such a beautiful guitar but I have to say your daughter was the star of the video!
She is !

Your method of carving is genius, I am definitely going to use this as inspiration in future builds
Agreed

Love that you're wearing a One Piece shirt while playing your One-Piece Guitar! Beautiful build.
Thank you ! I had the shirt so it was easy :)
"It's dirty."
"Can I still play with it?"
"Just don't tell mom."
Reminds me of my kids in my workshop when they where that age.
Priceless.
I don't know what I like the most, the guitar or your reaction with your kid. She's adorable and you are a great father!!
My father passed away when I was 6, but before that I was always playing in his wood shop with him. I will forever cherish the memories of 5 year old me hammering nail after nail into a piece of wood. Seeing your daughter with you brought me back to that place again.
I'm sorry to read that you lost your father at such a young age and I'm happy to hear that you still have those happy memories with him, thanks for watching !
Beautiful! My wife would have loved to see this. She was an aspiring wood carver before she passed in 2022.
I'm sorry for your loss, im sure she is carving all the wood and would be happy to show you when you arrive to meet her in the future :D

High level craftsmanship, wholesome family vibes, perfectly edited, beautiful taste in guitar shape and finish.........this is truly something special. Whoever ends up with this work of art is lucky indeed. Added to that the proceeds going to charity. Ben really started something special with the guitar build off.
Thank you !!
This whole video is art. Every single second.
Period.
Thank you ! :)
Agreed. And it is also love too. Every single second.
All of it.
I lost my shit at about 12 minutes in. Adorable.
I have a daughter too, and I literally chuckled out loud when I read the caption "just don't tell mom"! That is something I find myself saying to my little girl too. Whatever it takes for them to smile. It is so cool to see that no matter what language it is, the love a dad has for his little girl has no boundaries. I just started doing larger luthier work myself and it was really cool to watch you take the time needed to do everything right. Awesome job filming and editing too! People don't realize how difficult it is to get great shots like you did. Keep up the good work! 😎🤙🏼🎸🎸
What a wholesome comment ! I really feel you but as a dad like you, I don't overanalyze those special moments with the loved ones :)
It’s great that you have your daughter with you in the shop and have her help with the little things. It maybe pretty insignificant in the whole process like outlining the shape and cutting the frets, but to a little kid like that, she might as well have built the whole thing herself 😂
Well she gives me courage, it's hard to explain :)
Without a doubt one of the highest quality videos I've watched, ever. The craftsmanship, the knowledge, the editing, the guitar playing, and even wholesome family dynamics! Truly great work.
Real father daughter moment there! "Don't tell Mom"
And a universal and relatable one at that :)
I can’t believe you do this just as a hobby, and that you have been a luthier for such a relatively short time. I would buy one of your guitars without hesitation. Beautiful, thank you. And we all need helpers - working in a team is so much more fun. Your team mate is brilliant! She has better finishing skill than I do!
Well thank you ! Little helpers are the best ! Even their yelling and shouting and crying upstairs, that you can hear on some of the clips, are very helpful :)
As always, absolutely stunning instrument, beautifully shot video and ridiculously adorable "maniacal laughter" from the assistant. Every single build is even better than the last. Amazing.
😊😊It's great to see his little daughter's hands working with daddy! Beautiful picture and really touched me!!
Amazing build and she cracked me up. You gotta love that feeling inside when a child laughs
As she grows older I always fear that she looses that silliness but no, her fantasies are just more elaborate :p
I built my first guitar when I was 15 with my Dad. We had no plans bar an old acoustic we copied and his memory of a guitar he'd seen as a kid himself. 30 years later I have built guitars for people who've sold millions and had albums that won best in the music industry with songs my tools and passion created. Thank you Dad, you set a fire in me that has burned so bright and those memories of our first 'red rocker' will always be the start of my journey as a luthier and man.

@@fuckmylife4403 you're a kid aren't you? You'd have to be. My quote was for my father and the creator of this fine video. Maybe one day when you grow up you'll understand. How many I've made or for whom they were built is unimportant, as it your opinion.
@@slapitman Nice story. Some people wish they had memories of their father like you do. God bless you brother. For that other idiot, he probably doesn't even know who his dad is.

Not only was this pure enjoyment to watch, the guitar came out beautifully. Also, it always makes me happy to see another One Piece fan

Hooo thanks :)
This is already my favorite guitar out of all the guitars that has been featured in the Great Guitar Build Off over the years. A true work of art!
thank you !! means a lot since there are hundreds of GGBO builds
Are you sure you even know what you're talking about? There is no "over the years" for the GGBO. Matt & Chris @ Texas Toast came up with that in early 2020 or late 2019 and the very first one was put on by Crimson and that was only last year. 2020.
So there is no "over the years". So what are you talking about? There's only been 2 so far. The first year, 2020, which Texas Toast won with their triple neck Challenger called The Hater Maker. And this year. So there's been a year and a few months so far. Not enough time for "over the years" 🤷
