I watched all 3 seasons a month or so ago, for me it's up there with The Sopranos, The Wire and Deadwood - absolute classic! Only trouble is, i find myself talking in an Australian accent all the time!
Anyone making movies and TV today needs to study this show as an example of what we are all craving from entertainment. No expositional monologues, no dance-karate, no over-the-top action sequences and fireball explosions, no farcical plot armor to protect our hero or predictable last-second divine intervention… just straight-up gritty, grounded, stories that portray the swift chaos of the world, centered around flawed characters with redemptive qualities. Mr. Inbetween is a gem amidst a sea of costume jewelry.
Great comment. One of those rare shows that "shows" rather than "tells" the audience about the characters' motives, drives and flaws. Also, it shows that even though Ray wins (at times), his lifestyle makes him lose. We would all like to have Rays skills, however, they come at a great personal cost. "Exposure therapy" to violence may make you nonchalant in the face of violent situations, but the price isn't really worth it. Yes, its great to be able to put people in their place, but using violence will get you sued, ostracised and shunned...even though bystanders will be grateful that you "resolved" the situation. Ray struggles with a form of PTSD. The faces he has sent to the next world will haunt him for life. It's like that quote about people in the military that have never deployed overseas wishing they could "go to war", yet its the veterans that return that say "Only a person who has never been to war would say something like that". The mental ledger has to be paid for. You dont get to be stoic in the face of violence, yet get to keep your innocence....
So true mate. Ray was portrayed perfectly as a not perfect, down to earth guy, who just happened to be a hard bastard. You were rooting for him for the whole show.
Yeah! With that question intonation, a raising tone at the end of every sentence, like everything's a question? I also find myself using Aussie terms. Went into Gregg's earlier and asked for Dimmies' They had no clue what they were - I think it's a type of dumpling? I'd love to go back to visit Australia but since 9/11 my old convictions pop up on the immigration screens and I'm not welcome. Ironically I committed all my crimes before I first got a 12 month work visa for Aus in 1993 - and I never got in any trouble over there. You'd think that would mean something...
Fark mate, no one's underating the bloke now. He's staked his claim to fame. And what's more, so have the script writers on this show. They've given this a real red hot crack, and pulled it off!! Kudos to them!!
Fantastic series. Just finished it for the first time and it has too many great points to list. If anything stands out though, it's the writing. It's practically flawless. If you ain't seen it and you like the criminal underworld genre, you owe to yourself to watch this.
I saw an interview on Australian TV where Scott Ryan was asked if there was any chance of making a new series, he said it's possible if FX puts the money up, and he has a worthwhile storyline. Even a movie would be great.
For once a show that sticks with the main character the whole show without boring sub plot fillers with cops perspective of side kicks. This style is unheard of. Bravo
@Zerpersande I'll say but I'll do it for him haha. "Great edits! I'm really enjoying them and they almost make you feel you are in the situations that they are in. Keep it up!"
@@Zerpersande Mr Inbetween: - Most people don't even know about this series. I found out about it two years after it concluded. - The acting is fantastic and is deserving of many awards that bigger mainstream shows receive, especially for supporting actors like Nicholis Cassim who portrayed Bruce. I genuinely though he had MND when I was watching the show. - The writing is fantastic, I was shocked that it was based off of 'The Magician,' another film I had never even heard of. ĒCHØ • Editor - His montage videos are under rated as he still has a low number of subscribers and views which I think will increase as more people slowly hear about Mr Inbetween.

This is and will always be Australia’s Sopranos and top shelf Australian drama. The eye-acting, calm and grit that Ray embodies is classic. A great production by the whole team. 👏👏👏 we really do need a dim sum emoji 🥡
I was thinking this. Breaking bad is incredible but this has a lot more soul I reckon and is about the most relatable series I've ever seen. Even the criminal underworld parts are relatable despite being unrelatable in actuality.
This and Breaking Bad were the two shows I binged, and they never lost their edge. Each one was precisely as long as they needed to be to tell the stories.
When he is walking back down the tunnel to take out the trash gives me chills even thinking about it. My favorite violent Ray moment. The best in-between moment was when he squashed the beef with his daughter over pizza, a phenomenal show.
I've just binge watched all 3 seasons of Mr Inbetween. Astonishingly good! Shows how good TV can be without a Game of Thrones level budget. What does piss me off is that no one in the UK has a clue about some AMAZING Aussie shows. I've managed to convert a few to RAKE with the brilliant Richard Roxburgh and the original version of THE SLAP (so much better than the US remake - even with Brian Cox in it). Now I'm trying to get everyone I know to give this a watch. Scott Ryan is a name I'll be looking out for in the future.
Has to be one of the greatest shows ever created and one hell of an actor. I stumbled upon it by accident, and I highly recommend everyone to watch it. The only downside to this show is the fact there are only 3 seasons.
I stumbled upon this Aussie series about a month ago on accident. It reminds me of... a rated R version of the old US drama Rockford Files from the 70s. Except, Rockford in this case.... is Clint Eastwood. Enjoy it, I did!
This show gives me similar vibes as The Punisher show. And all of these vibes are the things we crave the most out of modern TV shows and movies and we dont get them enough!
Simply a great show. I always wished the episodes were longer than 30 minutes. I agree with another poster that this show is up there with the Sopranos.

Me too, aw shit, I am Australian, seriously though, it’s a top show and Ray is so cool.
What did you watch it on? Did you stream it? Thanks

Defo, best thing i have watched since breaking bad.
I see what you did there 😮😊👍

One of the most underrated shows out there. But also one of the best.
It's not underrated.
Opinions vary
They got the Australian underground spot on. Personalities, characters.
The writer knows his stuff.

Scott Ryan wrote the whole series as well as starring in it.

Yeah? No wonder he's got the character SOO down pat. He's a little ripper!!
Thank you for making this, most underrated show ever and it saddens me that it ended so soon.
Club owner turned out to be a jerk anyway, Ray was better off out from that relationship
Would have been a better ending him being killed by Ray and in Ray's logic would have been the next step
Still don't understand why he didn't kill Freddie, he had good enough reason to, plus he could have easily shown it was just smart business.
@@Bull-n3o I saw a comment about it I liked, it said that Ray didn't kill him as one last favor to him, as a friend.
Such a fantastic series, somehow UA-cam recommended me a clip a while back which peaked my interest. Now I recommend it to everyone

There's at least one new script completed for the next project. I believe it's being shopped around. The show is underrated, but not in TV circles.
