well they were snivelling, self-vindicating, wife beating little cry baby wankers. so it is hardly surprising as he was a real gangster. the guy hosting the group was even worse than those attending in my view. a typical judgemental, "sexual predator supporting" government control freak. he hated ray because ray was the real face of public justice, not the police or any other government flunkies. ray basically embarrassed the others there.
The other great thing about those scenes is how they start out trying to be remorseful about being violent assholes, but then they start cracking jokes and backing each other up on their reasoning behind assaulting people, basically just broing out on their shared interest of being toxic pricks, and the group leader is too milquetoast to reign them in

American here, I fucking love Ray. I binged this show over a weekend and now watching again with the wife. It's a masterpiece, wish there were more seasons.
I LOVE MR. INBETWEEN! I had the pleasure of stumbling upon it and watching it when it was live on FX. It’s been very frustrating not really knowing anyone else that’s seen it haha
I have and it's fantastic! I hope enough people ask for it to get it on again networks are missing a fantastic show I wish enough of us could get together make them aware of this!
This show is what I tell non-Aussies to watch when they wanna know how we actually speak to each other. None of that Crocodile Dundee "Throw another shrimp on the barbie" shit. To an Australian, the dialogue just feels natural, like conversations I've heard and had thousands of times. The script just nails how we talk, all the little nuances and quirks, the slang, the dry humour, everything. it's my favourite part of the show, it's just so brutally Australian in every way and that's one of the reasons I love it so much.
I live in Australia and Mr Inbetween is the best show that has ever been written. Each episode was a story and it never got boring. You wanted more all the time. Scott Ryan writing and directing was excellent and Nash directing were a perfect pair. I truly hope one day Scott and Nash will reconsider and do more series of Mr Inbetween for us Cult followers who just cannot get enough. 🇦🇺
My niece marred an Aussie, when she was working abroad. They then moved their family here to the U.S. My "nephew" is a real cool guy. Last year, they were flying back to Australia, to spend X'mas with his family. I gave him my copy of "Mr. Inbetween" for the flight. Living here for the past years, he's lost touch with his homeland and did not know of the show. Needless to say, he told me he loved it. I knew he would.
If you like this, I recommend you watch the aussie drug lord series "underbelly". There are a few season spanning multiple eras/generations. From the 1800s to modern times
Probably because it didn't have the artificial 'stars' behind it to get it the recognition. Fortunately the people are making it known and getting it the recognition which is more than deserving
Probably because it hasn't been that widely disributed. Many haven't seen it, others want to watch it but can't because it's not on the streaming service they have.
The episode where the child gets snatched from the shopping centre was one of the most chilling ones I've ever watched. Any parent who has had that heart rending process of trying to find your kid in a shopping centre when they have wandered off knows that feeling and his reaction to that was so real, it was incredible to watch. The end of that episode related to the inner feelings of any parents thoughts on how they would react to anyone molesting their kids. Incredibly written and gut wrenching to watch. Highly recommend the series.
I'm a born and raised New Yorker- grew up in a tough neighborhood in the 50's through 70's. That time and place, was one where if you said the wrong thing- to the wrong person, you'd get your ass kicked. No guns, but the local hoods weren't killers, just violent. Although random acts of senseless violence were common, we just lived 'normal' lives. Ray Shoesmith, has the kind of scruples that I would almost loved to have had back then, dealing with the assholes in my neighborhood. I think that's part of his strong appeal, his willingness and ability to just fuck people up that don't behave properly, or that have screwed him over. Many of us have someone in our past that we'd like to go back in time and 'take care of.' An EXCELLENT show, and kudos to Scott Ryan for creating such a great character.
It’s been flooding my YT shorts lately. Definitely gonna have to give it a watch, great breakdown you didn’t spoil anything and only made me want to watch it even more!
A moment I loved for Gary was when he was launching his home shot porn business and he started getting mostly gay clients and he didn’t care about that. He was so into the act of filming and improving it, he was excited for the business as it gave him more opportunities to improve camera’s, lighting and production value. He was a flourishing artist…lol
Thank god a largeish UA-camr is finally covering Mr. Inbetween. Loved this show msged the creator to compliment him responded like an absolute legend. One of my favs of all time.
His shout out to chopper made me smile and laugh for the first time in several days. I needed that and Iam glad both are getting the attention they deserve.
This show is a great example of why it's best to not have too many cooks in the kitchen. One writer and one director throughout. The tone and quality stayed consistent.
one thing i loved about this show was the way it took the sauce right out of those well known "uh-oh" type setups for overly dramatic situations and subverted my expectations. case in point gary's girlfriend spilling the beans to ray's girlfriend about his supposed peepee movies and instead of everything escalating out of proportions and culminating in a misunderstanding and an argument ray explains what really happened and they just have a laugh about it. or when ray forgot his mother in law's name so he asked his girl what was it again and instead of getting bitchy about it she just told him again and that was it
I love how this show doesn't spoon feed you exposition about its characters. Rather, its a slow burn throughout the course of the show, allowing viewers to piece together and get the full weight each character and their relationships. Its much more engaging and makes every character feel natural and textured.
For sure. One thing that struck me was that episode where his friends daughter got kidnapped, his daughter saw the look on his face and immediately asked to be taken home. It gives you a hint that she's seen him like this before and it scared her, but it's not elaborated on
@@royd-w nice point. I saw Gary and his fetish, and his "owe you one" and thought he was a complete pharquewit until he paid off in spades, and turned out to be a real mate. That slow-burn character development, and complexity, is remarkable
I started watching this series after I saw you talking about it on Twitter; I finished season 1 in one day and now I'm on to season 2 and having a really good time. I've been watching it with my dad and he likes it a lot too, so thanks again for keeping up with the great recommendations.
I really enjoyed this show and your review nails it. The script and acting are tight. Because they didn't over do anything, it is completely believable. As if I was a fly on the wall I could picture myself being in these scenes. Edit: I remember thinking after watching this when it was first released. Was this a documentary on Australia's crime life. It was that good and believable.
It is a masterpiece. Best thing since Breaking Bad. I was upset when I reached the last episode. Ray is awesome. Great casting and storyline. Can't recommend this enough. Brilliant show and love the Aussies for this. Respect and best wishes from the UK!
I like this show more than BB, no big family drama, no fear of the law, no dumb helper, no speak with advocates, just the 2 sides of a life of man of the underworld. Ray is a type of guy we fear, but we respect and sometimes undertand yours whys. Very good suporting actors. The Ray-Gary friendship is fantastic, Gary really trust Ray, the later the payoff of Gary is invaluable. Ray have a good relation even with the man who tried to kill him, this is the essence of "is not personal". No more spoilers if someone read this. This show rating of 10/10 is fair enough. :)
@@gillall4828it’s definitely a good show imo but it’s not like top ten ever for me the same way breaking bad is. When compared to breaking bad or other all time great series (the shield, sons of anarchy, sopranos, the Americans, fargo, mr robot, even Barry, etc…) mr inbetween leaves a lot to be desired Imo. I respect what you’re saying it is a good show and very underrated but not better than breaking bad.
@@Zei33That's where I caught it. Good thing to, because googling it, the word comedy is used a lot, and stands out a lot when describing it, which would have probably made me and has probably made others pass it by. Just finished watching it, definitely one of my favourite shows of all time. This show deserved a lot more attention, and would have been absolute major international hit, if people only realised how good it was. He did an excellent job with this. Now to watch the Magician 2005, which it is supposed to be based on.
Another Aussie here. Saw the show a year or 2 ago and it is amazing. I think i only found out about it through a scene in UA-cam or Facebook, and thought that this looks so interesting. Highly recommend for everyone to watch it
Im glad that you mentioned the dialogue, one thing that has been putting me off a lot of overly dramatic shows is that the conversations don't sound like real conversations. The dialogue in Mr in-between was so refreshing especially for an Australian it sounds like your everyday Aussies having a chat about what ever
It was an eye opener to me not only how natural the dialogue in the show was, but conversely it starkly pointed out just how unnatural the dialogue is on every other show. Mr Inbetween is unique because it sounds so real, which says something about everything else that's been made in Australia before or since
@@ray.shoesmith I saw an interview with Scott when they mentioned the dialogue style. He said the script was used as an outline and not to be exact so it allowed the characters to be more themselves. How else could Gary get so excited about a an artificial foot used to wank with.LOL
@@danielvandervort I mean, that makes sense, but surely in the last 70 or 80 years another movie or television show has employed the same philosophy on script vs dialogue. Yet still, nothing has sounded like this. It was genuinely like being a fly on the wall.
Yeh i wondered why i stopped watching Australian shows a long time ago, none of us speak like home and away. Your comment just gave me the epiphany thanks mate, itwas the unnatural dialogue!
Not a Sten. It's a Stirling. Generally speaking, this is what Australians are like. Straightforward, honest and good humoured. Glad this is getting an airing outside Australia. I was mesmerised by "The Magician" when I came across it by chance on TV one night. I really enjoyed this video too. Thanks.
Sten= Stirling Enfield... Like Bren is Bruno Enfield... Edit: l shd add you're right mate, NO Sten had a curved mag. The C1 (devd in Canada was based on the Sten mechanism, but with a curved mag...it was adopted by the Poms in (54?). Also..2 schools of thought.. S.H.Thomas (or similar) & Enfield devd the Sten... Another book lve got says Sterling/Enfield.
@@ericsissenwein3601 Yep that's what google says...lve got a book (my old mans) that says Sterling/Enfield & another that says Maj.R.V.Shepherd & H.J.Turpin ....now you've said it, ld be inclined to believe it. The Australian made Sten was an Austen, before the Owen gun was produced. Edit: Then lve also read S.H.Thomas.. And the Armaments website says the EN stands for England not Enfield & that came from Shepherd himself, so l dunno mate, l rekn the Shepherd/Turpins right tho, it's on 4 different sites.
@@jinglesbluecat Yeah mate, ld already said no Sten had a curved mag...agreed with the top blokes answer... It was the 3 different origins of the meaning of Sten.
Yes, this show was FANTASTIC! My favorite "Ray Moment" was when the police came around to ask him questions and he's repeat over and over again: "I don't answer questions."
11:08 It's a Sterling, not a Sten. Same gun that was used in Star Wars as the blaster the Stormtroopers used. They Sterling was the successor to the Sten, and they look superficially similar because the magazine is inserted from the side.
11:08 That is not a Sten that is an E-11, the main blaster rifle for the Galactic Empire. It was manufactured by BlasTech Industries as a cheaper but still reliable alternative to the DC-15 series of blasters used during the Clone Wars.
As an Aussie, I've never been more proud to say that this show came from our country. I recommend it to everyone I chat to about shows. Loved every second of it. The characters, the shifts between comedy and drama, the great writing. Everything about the series was just so well done. And I love that Scott Ryan ended the series on his own terms and when he felt was right.
What I love about the Aussies is that they have a “Fuck it” attitude and not bothered about offending anyone. It’s just like the way us Brits used to be before we lost our bollox and turned into a nation of yes men arse lickers.
You know a show is good when it's finished and you just wished there was more. Just found out about it and is the best thing i have seen in a long time
that ending scene in the taxi with the RUN song made me fucking howl with laughter when I watched the show. The whole show itself really just embodies something that I'm pretty sure I'm misremembering Chopper say, which is why I was glad to hear you reference him since I had the same thought about the show. The show itself just feels like one of Choppers "big yarns" he likes to tell, like that interview where he just takes a reporter around and tells his version of where and how he killed people a month or so before he died. That and Ryan Scott fucking perfected Choppers big "I'm about to fuck something" grin. Mr Inbetween is probably one of my favourite shows of all time just for how great it was, I'm glad I heard you and Shota talking bout it on a stream.
It's said that the smile Ray gives before tossing the guy from the staircase in S1 E1 is the same smile he gives to the camera in that ending scene. Brilliant!
When I saw Ray's shit eating grin at the end of the last episode in the series before "Run" plays - first thing that came to my mind was, you're in for a treat boys 😁👍
Man, this show... I can't remember the last time I watched something and was so utterly amazed, constantly, by how good it was. It has become so rare to feel "respected as an audience member". And not having everything explained to you all the time, not having everything talked about, or clearly displayed, leaving you to understand a scene, a moment, an emotion, a reaction yourself, because the writer and director trust you to GET IT? Satisfying as hell! This show, for me, is the only one with 0 unnecessary bullshit. No fillers, no explaining, no moral preaching, no "in your face" stuff, no unrealistic interpersonal conflicts... The people in the show all felt real. In hollywood shows I often have the problem that characters seem to have very artificial flaws and shortcomings to create plot for the show. In Mr In Between people are... People. And the stuff that happens is LIFE happening, not enforced cringe drama due to infatilized adults that never learned how to communicate. In many ways this was the most "grown up" show I have seen... and by that I do not mean the violence. I'd really love to see Scott create other shows, because I suspect the guy just has a talent for entertaining stories that feel grounded, funny and realistic, the same way Tarantino has a talent for absurd action. And because the show didn't make trauma or grief the centerpoint, the moments where those things actually showed up felt so, so much more impactful.
The lovely thing about this program is it shows The Aussies and us Brits still have the same sense of humour with an efficiency and no tolerance for bull. It is a masterpiece this program made all the better by the fact that it makes sense to us Brits. Obviously im only talking from our perspective.
I watched Romper stomper as a teen.A cult classic if not controversial. The film brilliantly illustrated the dialogue and interaction between fellow Aussie's outside of the clichés often portrayed. Mr In-between is another brilliant example of this, Rays character is captivating and mesmerising.A masterpiece..
Not even sure how I discovered Mr. In Between, but it’s easily one of the best dark comedies I’ve ever seen. Scott Ryan (the actor, director producer) has a knack for pacing, character arc development, dialogue - it really is one of the great series of our time. Seriously.
This series felt as real as the best Danish cinema; grounded, brutal, dramatic, everyday and honest, funny, harsh - founded on solid acting, dialogue and realist truth, yet cinematic and mythological.
Bloody fantastic show. The disappointment I felt in the last episode was not that it should have been fleshed out more, I thought that aspect of it was just fine, but that there wasn't going to be any more Mr Inbetween and that I had come to the end of the journey. What a ride. Like many people I never wanted it to end. It's that good. Because you didn't mention her in the video I think it's notable to mention what a great performance Brooke Satchwell did as Ray's part-time girlfriend in the earlier episodes. I mean, everyone is fantastic, the acting performances are excellent from everyone, but she really stood out. Given her beginnings as a cheesy soap actress (on Neighbours) this was a far more challenging role for her and she did it brilliantly.
@@zwryy7622 im not sure its so obvious ....The 2 hitmen say " run " so maybe he did and ducking and diving got away ? or maybe Ray knowing hes still hunted has a gun tucked next to his seat which he grabs and kill the hitmen or maybe as he opens the taxi door a cop car pulls up behind them ? or ??? lots of ways he could have survived
What is really sad about Ray's girlfriend breaking up with him was her misplaced distrust. She simultaneously didn't know how dangerous he was and how off base her judgment of him was. The abused should feel safe and want to protect themselves, but Ray is literally the dangerous kind of guy who would protect her and never hit her. What felt out of character about that scene with her brother being tossed through the glass was that Ray knows how to hold it in until it's the right time to express his will. Maybe it was quitting the cigarettes. But you can understand her reaction.
there won't be any new episodes. however you might have missed the movie it came from, same writer/director/star. The Magician. It's like a feature length episode.
I’ve seen a bunch of clips of this show on youtube, it looks great. It surprises me it’s not talked about more, seems like it’s gonna be like The Wirr where it only gets the recognition it deserves after it’s ended
@@ray.shoesmithHaha, I wasn't sure what a dimmie was. I thought they were like a perogie, but they seem like a Chinese egg roll, but round. No, never had them, but man I want some!
@@hurricaneaquatics from wiki because I'm too lazy.. "A dim sim is Chinese-inspired meat and vegetable dumpling-style snack food, popular in Australia and to a lesser extent in New Zealand. It was popularized in 1945 by a Chinese immigrant in Melbourne who originally came from Guangdong, William Chen Wing Young, the father of Australian celebrity chef, author and TV personality Elizabeth Chong. The name derives from the pronunciation diim syiim in Toisanese, the predominant dialect spoken at the time by Central Melbourne's Chinese community. The commercial snack food normally consists of minced meat, cabbage, and seasoning, encased in a wrapper similar to that of a traditional siu mai dumpling. They are typically cylindrical, or sometimes a larger, globular shape. They can be steamed or deep fried, and are commonly dressed or dipped in soy sauce, or sweet chilli sauce. An alternative way of cooking dim sims is to barbecue them, by cutting the dim sim in half lengthwise and placing it on a hot barbecue" Cheap ones are so-so, but gourmet dimmies are something else altogether.

Recently found this programme via YT shorts. Well done on the makers of this, should be a film series widely available, great character and very believable, the scenes are amazing and the violence very well done! Thanks for this, brilliant!
Ray is one of the funnest characters to root for that I've seen in a long time. And Gary, omg freakin Gary.... Dude is just too funny. Such a solid show
Had a very sheltered childhood but became a bit lost for a time in my teens. During this time met two memorable guys, Terry and Gordon, both of whom saved my bacon without any need for thanks or dollars. Ray in my life was Terry and Gordon was a very capable backup. This series is not only a masterpiece but a gut wrenching, heartbreaking experience that deserves the highest of accolades. I can only hope that my Ray (Terry) and Gordon went well in life which thanks to their help did I
My brother that lives in Australia recommended this. I really like it from the clips I have seen. I am so glad I found another great series to watch! thanks for another post.
I just finished binge watching, something I've never done before, but what choice did I have, couldn't stop watching! Easily the best show I've ever seen including BB, a show I was on board from S1E1. I sure hope this show at some point gets the credit it clearly deserves... SO FREAKIN GOOD!!!
One thing I like to remember when watching Ray going apeshit or doing combat actions on hits, it’s like he’s remembering his experiences in the war, he’s extremely tactical, and it kinda explains his personal beliefs on violence for example, it’s like the ROE never changed for him from the warzones to ‘civilian’ life
Absolutely agree. Being a Kiwi there is so much similarity between Ozzies and ourselves, especially the wry humour of the criminal community and the characters you come across. It is excellent
Thanks for this blurb, dude. Made me binge all 3 seasons today/tonight and I was not disappointed. You were absolutely right. It's a little masterpiece with fantastic visual details.and an excellent sense of humour. Definitely was yelling at the telly at times because I got immediately attached to certain characters. Great review!
Great review, thanks so much for your insight and reflection, not just for this series but all of your videos. You've inspired me to look at these shows with newfound interest and enthusiasm. One note: The submachine gun Ray uses is a Sterling 9mm, the successor to the vintage Sten gun you referenced. They're often mistaken for one another because they both use side-mounted magazines. The Sterling is recognized as one of the best ever while the Sten--despite it's World War II service--was less than reliable and primitive; its manufacturers originally made bedsprings and frames in England and happened to have the necessary tooling to make those things. Anywho, thanks for shining a light on Mr. Inbetween. Good job!
Just watched this and it really catches the understated Australian humour. Found it fkn hilarious, cried too. Tickled pink that people in other countries get it too. Remember taking a bus and two young men were swearing alot! A man asked them to stop as there women and children but one went off at the guy. He dragged him off the bus and 'taught him some manners'. Nobody rang police, nobody saw a thing. I miss this Australia, we are becoming too soft.
@@michaelhall5429 yeah, I’m 30 not sure how old you are but for my age swearing is not really seen as like a taboo word anymore. It’s just another word in everyday use. I don’t think it’s as rude as it used to be. But still, I know other people find it rude so try not to swear in the presence of them.
@@michaelhall5429 I think most average people are like that. They try not to swear around kids. But there are just some real pieces of shit out there that really stand out. You know the type. Teenagers who just don’t care about anyone but themselves.
I too miss the times when a person can get dragged off a bus and assaulted for how they were talking, because women are too sensitive for sharp words said in their vicinity.
This is Australia's best show hands down! Some of the Underbelly series use to be my favourite but nothing comes close to MR INBETWEEN! Wish it kept going 👌🏼
I feel like Underbelly was a wasted opportunity. Great stories, but the execution just felt a little sub par, especially given the quality shows coming out at the time!
@LZEGION I don't know. Australian TV in general seems sub par because they recycle the same actors in nearly every show. Don't get ne wrong, there are some good actors here but they should let some new talent emerge. I don't watch normal "TV" anymore, so l am probably not the best person to voice my opinion but l really enjoyed the first 3 Underbelly series. For there time, l felt they well scripted. Obviously they could of been written a lot better but they were aiming at a wider audience not just true crime fans but for general audience of TV. Would love if some young gun Auzzie director did them again with more violence, grit and heart. Who knows, it could happen 🤙🏼
With a low population there’s only a limited amount of actors…and it’s not like America where you can get a foreigner to do the accent…our accent is to hard to do….to be fair.
@Bowriverblues That is part to blame buy l think it's name recognition and because they constantly want it in their productions, there is a push to keep the same top actors in nearly every show. At time on ads they've used the term "introducing" insert new actors name. Which l don't think is a bad thing but l am sure there are many talented actors that deserve a go but miss out because of the revolving door to m9re well know ones
Great video, you’ve made me go and watch this series again. This has to be one of the most underrated TV shows and most have never heard of it. As an Aussie this show came across as so authentic. It’s good to see that people from other countries enjoy it just as much!
I love that you went straight to the Louis comparison - I did the same thing, especially the loose way it plays with time and narrative, through intermittent glimpses rather than a meticulously communicated story. Goddamn I loved this show
Fell in love with this show when it came out. The Magician was definitely an awesome concept and fully fleshing ray out was everything I could've asked for.
Best thing about this show, was they showed Ray, the consummate badass, get choked out by a young girl. They didn’t mind tarnishing the character a bit.
Its 100% believable too, any good coach is going to build confidence with their students, and its a perfect execution of chekovs gun, as afterwards she exudes confidence to completely shut down rays daughters' bully, "i just choked out a full grown man, ill crush this pipsqueak." Show is so dang good!
I kind of like the idea that they had a set amount of seasons/episodes from the start. It means you can end the experience with a feeling of "yep the story is complete everything has been said and done" when you drag it out the show either gets cancelled on a cliff hangar or the story is incomplete, or as the seasons drag on the content becomes worse and worse.
I've just binge watched all three series after getting hooked by some highlights on UA-cam. Like everyone else, I was thoroughly impressed with the stories and the performance. Scott Ryan and Nash Edgerton deserve huge praise for this work and they demonstrate exactly what makes a story great (and what's absent from so much output today): good writing, good acting and good direction.
I think the scene that sold me on this show was when Ray refused to answer any question the police ask him P.S, Ray uses an Austen Submachine gun not a STEN
One of my favourite things about some crime media that Mr Inbetween nails is the quiet moments where characters can talk like and be regular people. The scene of Ray and Gary discussing the Bond actors was just as engaging as a gunfight. Also, being an Aussie myself, hearing our slang used naturally and appropriately was so refreshing.
Here to help the algorithm. Loved this show since it first aired and haven’t stopped recommending it to people. Thanks for making this! I’d like to see it get the nods it’s deserving of.
Have to agree. This is such a good show. Every scene is intentiona but still utilitarian, which is a way of complimenting it's professionalism. The director did well
I never got it why isnt nobody talking about this masterpiece. Im Hungarian and Hungarians are famous of translating literally every TV series into Hungarian, but this one isnt translated. This show is very underrated for some reason.
@@etwanican_7439maybe not as violent, but ray actually lives his life on respect and morals, he has rules. The script just nails how we talk, all the little nuances and quirks, the slang, the dry humour, everything. it's my favourite part of the show, it's just so brutally Australian in every way and that's one of the reasons I love it so much.

Incredible series, I have never understood why it has not been given the recognition it deserves.
Probably because it didn't have the artificial 'stars' behind it to get it the recognition. Fortunately the people are making it known and getting it the recognition which is more than deserving
All about the Benjamins target audience too small in the land down under.
Probably because it hasn't been that widely disributed. Many haven't seen it, others want to watch it but can't because it's not on the streaming service they have.
Because the wankers who like the status quo as it is don't want men to be educated in how to have real integrity.

Many of us have someone in our past that we'd like to go back in time and 'take care of.'
An EXCELLENT show, and kudos to Scott Ryan for creating such a great character.
It’s been flooding my YT shorts lately. Definitely gonna have to give it a watch, great breakdown you didn’t spoil anything and only made me want to watch it even more!

I saw an interview with Scott about the dialogue. He said the characters did not stay on a script and thats why it felt natural.

11:08 It's a Sterling, not a Sten. Same gun that was used in Star Wars as the blaster the Stormtroopers used.
They Sterling was the successor to the Sten, and they look superficially similar because the magazine is inserted from the side.

that ending scene in the taxi with the RUN song made me fucking howl with laughter when I watched the show.
Brilliant!

Scott Ryan spent basically his entire life developing this character and this storyline. This is one man's magnum opus and it shows.
The lovely thing about this program is it shows The Aussies and us Brits still have the same sense of humour with an efficiency and no tolerance for bull. It is a masterpiece this program made all the better by the fact that it makes sense to us Brits. Obviously im only talking from our perspective.

I relate intimately to Ray's smile as shorthand for "I am seconds from beating you to death with my bare hands." God knows I've felt that.

The show ended with ambiguity. Did he take them out or did he get taken out? Great ending.
@@Munrubenmuz I think the answer is pretty obvious LOL

Inbetween. Good job!
Got hooked on this from UA-cam clips. Just finished my second run through. Your video analysis is perfect! 👍🏼
A lot of rural towns are still like that, for better or worse.
I miss when we were polite enough not to swear on buses. At least we still queue properly I guess.
@@michaelhall5429 yeah, I’m 30 not sure how old you are but for my age swearing is not really seen as like a taboo word anymore. It’s just another word in everyday use. I don’t think it’s as rude as it used to be.

@@michaelhall5429 I think most average people are like that. They try not to swear around kids. But there are just some real pieces of shit out there that really stand out. You know the type. Teenagers who just don’t care about anyone but themselves.

@Sam Searle Yeah, nah mate. It wasn't. Sure you could do better?
Great video, you’ve made me go and watch this series again. This has to be one of the most underrated TV shows and most have never heard of it. As an Aussie this show came across as so authentic. It’s good to see that people from other countries enjoy it just as much!
I have watched this show and want to wipe it from my mind to watch it again.
I just binge watched this show and I loved it. One of the most watchable shows I can remember in recent memory.
I watched it sometime last year. Mr. Inbetween is one of my all time favourites. It absolutely is a masterpiece.
Binged this. One of the best series of entertainment I have ever seen. Criminally underrated.
i recently discovered this series and oh my... this is up there with succession on my all time rank chart...
I really like the ending, it was way less ambiguous than the way the Sopranos ended.
I love that you went straight to the Louis comparison - I did the same thing, especially the loose way it plays with time and narrative, through intermittent glimpses rather than a meticulously communicated story.
Goddamn I loved this show
This show really looks interesting, finally an Australian show I can get behind
The Mystery Road series (2 of them) are excellent. There is a lot of amazing Australian TV worth watching. Not sure what u have access too though.
It is worth your time. I'm happy to see it being touted by someone.
without PC and anti men bullsh..
Fell in love with this show when it came out. The Magician was definitely an awesome concept and fully fleshing ray out was everything I could've asked for.
Best thing about this show, was they showed Ray, the consummate badass, get choked out by a young girl. They didn’t mind tarnishing the character a bit.
I laughed when I saw that clip.
Its 100% believable too, any good coach is going to build confidence with their students, and its a perfect execution of chekovs gun, as afterwards she exudes confidence to completely shut down rays daughters' bully, "i just choked out a full grown man, ill crush this pipsqueak." Show is so dang good!
Great & helpful video introduction to Mr. Inbetween. I just discovered it last night & I'm going to watch it. Thank you.
Was introduced to this show from your video. Ray has quickly become my favorite tv character since Tony Soprano.
I am downloading the First Season now. Thank you for the excellent script, and voice work. It's nice to listen to a human on UA-cam.
Fantastic synopsis man. been trying to convince my buddies to watch this and I think your video will do it some well deserved justice.
Man now I want to watch Mr. Inbetween and play Red Dead Redemption
I think the scene that sold me on this show was when Ray refused to answer any question the police ask him
P.S, Ray uses an Austen Submachine gun not a STEN
Hate to be that guy but it’s a sterling not an austen
@@NovusRex1788 It is a Sterling yeah. Which is weird, I'd think an Owen gun or F1 would be cool to see no?
@@maxiggy8069 an owen gun would be cool to see used in a modern setting.
run.
UA-cam Shorts turns everybody on to this, imma check it out
I binged watched this entire series in one week loved every minute of it. Scott Ryan is a HUGE talent!
I decided to watch this show randomly with my wife and we both love it! Such an underrated show.
We need more people like Ray in society tbh.
💯💯💯
No we don’t
@@etwanican_7439maybe not as violent, but ray actually lives his life on respect and morals, he has rules. You can see it when he lets Dan live, or when he’s supposed to feed the body of a dead girl to pigs, but chooses to give her a burial instead, even when he has conversations with some of his targets that he knows. The flip side is what he does and how he treats people who don’t earn respect or give him any back. He’s a perfect example of a man that could’ve been good but got fucked over through his childhood and in going forward.
@@Jimbo_Fett so basically he’s not as cruel as other hit men? Also I seem to remember him having a man dig his grave, killing him, then realizing he got the wrong guy or he was innocent. He’s a killer either way.
Good afternoon, glowie
