I love how this show doesn't spoon feed you exposition about its characters. Rather, its a slow burn throughout the course of the show, allowing viewers to piece together and get the full weight each character and their relationships. Its much more engaging and makes every character feel natural and textured.

For sure. One thing that struck me was that episode where his friends daughter got kidnapped, his daughter saw the look on his face and immediately asked to be taken home. It gives you a hint that she's seen him like this before and it scared her, but it's not elaborated on

@@hurricaneaquatics from wiki because I'm too lazy..
"A dim sim is Chinese-inspired meat and vegetable dumpling-style snack food, popular in Australia and to a lesser extent in New Zealand. It was popularized in 1945 by a Chinese immigrant in Melbourne who originally came from Guangdong, William Chen Wing Young, the father of Australian celebrity chef, author and TV personality Elizabeth Chong. The name derives from the pronunciation diim syiim in Toisanese, the predominant dialect spoken at the time by Central Melbourne's Chinese community.
The commercial snack food normally consists of minced meat, cabbage, and seasoning, encased in a wrapper similar to that of a traditional siu mai dumpling. They are typically cylindrical, or sometimes a larger, globular shape. They can be steamed or deep fried, and are commonly dressed or dipped in soy sauce, or sweet chilli sauce. An alternative way of cooking dim sims is to barbecue them, by cutting the dim sim in half lengthwise and placing it on a hot barbecue"
Cheap ones are so-so, but gourmet dimmies are something else altogether.

I've just binge watched all three series after getting hooked by some highlights on UA-cam. Like everyone else, I was thoroughly impressed with the stories and the performance. Scott Ryan and Nash Edgerton deserve huge praise for this work and they demonstrate exactly what makes a story great (and what's absent from so much output today): good writing, good acting and good direction.

Great review, thanks so much for your insight and reflection, not just for this series but all of your videos. You've inspired me to look at these shows with newfound interest and enthusiasm.
One note: The submachine gun Ray uses is a Sterling 9mm, the successor to the vintage Sten gun you referenced. They're often mistaken for one another because they both use side-mounted magazines. The Sterling is recognized as one of the best ever while the Sten--despite it's World War II service--was less than reliable and primitive; its manufacturers originally made bedsprings and frames in England and happened to have the necessary tooling to make those things.
Anywho, thanks for shining a light on Mr. Inbetween. Good job!

Guns indoors: Ive known some people who ND'd indoors and I was in the house for one of them. Youd be earnestly surprised how loud they can be and how loud they aren't. There was someone down the hallway, and two people literally the floor below and myself two floors on the basement on the otherside and to all of is it sounded like somome dropping a hardcover book on the floor.
Thankfully, round accounted for and no one hurt and nothing major damaged, and a major lesson for the individual direly learned.
But yeah, when it happens in a one off youd be earnestly surprised how it doesnt attract a lot of attention nor explode the person's eardrums.
Protracted enclosed room gunfights are another matter entirely however.

Just finished season 3 a week or two ago. I was putting it off because its been so good i didnt want to finish it. The entire show was done so fucking well. I didnt know scott ryan was the actor for ray and made this shit himself. Ill have to watch the magician now.
He really handles the character of ray well. Knowing its his own creation makes way more sense

Can you please update the description to include whether this has spoilers?
I have seen and loved this series and wanted to recommend it to my friend. I want to link him to this video bc I'm Aussie and I want him to hear the praise from a fellow American but I will have to watch the whole vid to know if there are spoilers.
I'm just going to send it with a warning that I haven't watched the whole thing but it appears to be a spoiler free format. I will share it more widely if I know without having to listen to a story I already know.
