    What time is dinner cause that steak looked good. Thanks for the simple and straight shooter review. No need to tap dance around and suggesting Sigma drop the price vs. the Sony is appreciated. Thanks

    Jason, thanks. Today, in May of 2024 would you choose the Sigma 35/2 DG DN or the Sony FE 35/1.8 or is there another lens you like even more? I’ll be using it on the A7CR or A7CII. Would appreciate your feedback. Take care.

      The sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN lens is very well built and has really good punchy contrast, color and sharpness. Overall though I would still prolly go with the Sony lens personally for the lighter weight and better sharpness at the Minimum focus distance in particular, but also slightly faster max aperture. With that being said it is a hard decision for sure...

    Great review. I have both the Sony and Sigma. The Sigma is actually shorter than the Sony, but a bit fatter. I think the difference comes down to whether you want an aperture ring. Being an ex Fuji user, I love the aperture ring (and this lens feels very much like the Fuji f2 primes) so will probably sell the Sony. Both very good lenses though.

      Thanks for watching and sharing your real world experience Andrew! I 100% understand what you are saying and you are a perfect example of exactly why this lens was made :) All the best, Jay

      I just got the Sony version but I really miss the aperture ring from when I was shooting Fuji. Did you notice a significant weight difference? I also feel like the Sony is more fragile and if I tossed it into a bag, it would get scratched up rather easily. How does it compare to the Fuji lenses you had before?

      @@AlexCruzHaha I didn’t notice any weight difference tbh. The lens feels more sturdy than the Sony and is probably a similar build quality to the Fuji f2 primes. The aperture ring has quite a bit of resistance to it, like the f2 primes have, which I like. I sometimes found the aperture ring on lenses like the Fuji 56mm 1.2 a bit loose. This isn’t like that. I also own the sigma 85mm 1.4 art lens, and I prefer the build quality of the 35mm f2. It’s a great lens and much more enjoyable to use that the Sony.

      @@AlexCruzHaha In terms of image quality, I also owned the Fuji 23mm 1.4 and 23mm f2. It’s better than both and pretty much on par with the Sony 35mm 1.8

      @@AndrewWithey you’ve convinced me Andrew. Thank you very much for your reply, I’m going to return this and get the sigma. I really enjoy the superstars ring and that sturdy build the f2 primes gave me on Fuji. I felt confident tossing the camera into a bag and just getting out there, thank you! I might even return the Sony 85 1.8 for a sigma version although I really like that Sony lens!

    I love this series. Buy one if you love having a solid aperture ring. But about your review: Please level and flush your test card. Compare lens sizes by viewing them from the same distance to the camera without moving for a second.

    had both, sold the sigma because the sony is sharper, the AF works better when doing video......

    Another fantastic review. Thumbs up!
    Does it feel light in the hand? Is AF performance fast enough for toddlers? I am thinking about upgrading my Sony 35/2.8 ZA to this lens. I prefer the Sigma over Sony 35/1.8 for build quality and OOF rendering, but want to make sure that AF can keep up with my super fast 2 yo and the camera and lens combo still feels like a lightweight setup.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 роки тому

      I would not say this lens is an upgrade from the Zeiss you already own. The aperture is a little faster, but the Zeiss is smaller, lighter, and excellent quality. The focus is fast and accurate on the Sigma, but tracking kids is always a struggle ;) The lens is pretty beefy!

       @SonyAlphaLab by Jay I know what you are saying, but this Sigma is just a sexy lens and I like its rendering better than both Sony lenses (the 1.8 and the 2.8). It seems like AF should be good. I will just have to handle this lens to see if it is light enough to replace 35/2.8 ZA for me as a daily run and gun lens. I tend to leave my heavier lenses at home regardless of the IQ and technical qualities. This Sigma certainly fits my "every lens under a lb criteria" for sure :) I ordered it this afternoon. I guess I will find out soon enough. Thanks for reviewing the lens and responding to my question.

    Just to check - you’d still recommend the Sony 35mm 1.8 over this i35? I’m after a compact 35mm to go alongside my 35mm GM for the A7C for an everyday family lens

    Which Lens has the better image quality? :-)

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  2 роки тому

      Overall I would say the Sony. However, the Sigma does have better contrast than the Sony which is really nice and noticeable to me. It has more distortion though and is not near as sharp. I shoot raw so I can adjust for the contrast in post fairly easily, but you can see that punchy contrast the Sigma produces over the Sony at the faster apertures in particular. It's one of those preference things when it comes to these two lenses.... If you want the best IQ, look at a fully manual 35mm f/2 Zeiss Loxia Lens: ua-cam.com/video/A3MOfrQFSDM/v-deo.html This is an older review of mime so the audio in particular is not the best...
