1:25 I liked “Reborn” in the beginning when it was a gag manga. There’s something relatable about living with no regrets or living like it’s your last day. It lost me when it started to move into the “battle manga” sphere (a trend for falling or stagnant gag series). I was kinda cool with the supernatural mafia stuff a little then it got more and more convoluted with sci-fi and esoteric magic systems. I do have a soft spot for it because it was the first manga my friend gifted to me in high school in the 2000s.
I really like Hitman Reborn, but I do have to say it's an aquired taste. About the female cast, from what I've heard, the manga was actually axed and there was supposed to be an arc finally fleshing them out after the Selection arc, but who knows if that's actually true. I do have to agree that Chrome's the worst part of the series, but I wouldn't say she was objectified and more that she was wasted potential. She's supposed to be part of the main cast and, for lack of a better term, a way to keep an old moveset, but she just devolved into being the "Mukuro button". I do hope we get another shot at an official release or at least an hd scanlation, cuz trying to re-read it is tough.
Interesting, that would at least help alleviate some problems a bit, I definitely overplay how I feel about Chrome/Mukuro a bit, I think one of her fights in the future arc really pushed me over the edge. 100% agree with a HD Scanlation, it'd make reading it so much nicer
It is the only manga series in this list I am still interested in reading. Not sure about samurai 8, though. Kishimoto didn't hit the mark with this series like he did with Naruto.
Sorry for the slander, it's got its positives which I might touch on some other time, can definitely see it being someone's favourite unlike most other series on this list though haha
@@TrentinArt Don't worry, I like you're content way too to much to care that you don't like one of my favorites. Amongst the mentioned top 5 of mine KHR is definitely the one with the most objective faults but I love literally every cast member (Especially Hibari, he's like edgy anime Jesus to me) besides some really minor ones (And Lambo, he's only tolerated because of nostalgia) and the battle system and fights from the Future arc and beyond are all top tier for me.
Heck yeah sweet! It's main cast is pretty lovable yeah, I'm a big Gokudera fan but I think the ringholders are pretty much all good, the pokemon-esque beast thing was cool too I wish it was touched on more
@@TrentinArt Ayy Gokudera was my favorite too as a kid. It is kinda bad writing that the dying will animals just got brushed aside but tbh I don't really mind because outside of Hibaris hedgehog I didn't really care about them too much.
13:08 while other youtubers use worlds like 'unalive' to avoid youtube cencorship Trentinart just gives us unedited shota sack with no fear, truly a mad man
Ahahaha it's so cartoony I really dont register it as anything worth censoring, I think ive had to do that with some old Jump manga that show breasts tho!
You are a VERY brave man for including reborn haha. but in all seriousness, i respect your opinion. Like you said, this list is subjective and I understand that (storywise) Reborn is not for everybody Besides there has been series that you've praised in this channel that i will personally never be interested in but hey that the great thing about manga, there's something for everybody
For sure! Theres soooo many manga in Jump alone that one persons tastes wont ever be the same, it's definitely the most volatile opinion I had in this video but I think I was pretty fair and glad to actually hear from some Reborn fans who're being pretty chill about it! Thanks for you comment!
I hope the thumbnail is clickbait. I love KHR a fair bit and need to make sure it gets the respect it deserves. Edit: Never mind, I agree. I pessinally really struggled with the Future Arc and never finished it. I am certainly in the minority who loved it as a kooky gag manga. Also, I agree on how poorly written the ladies are.
It's half and half, i knew it would get people to watch (Also Tsuna looks super cool) but yeah I do have a few issues with it so I thought this would be a good video to bring them up in. It certainly is the black sheep in this video though where most of the other manga lack any upsides, wheras there is definitely good stuff about Reborn! Thank you for watching and being civil 😌
I agree with the gag stuff actually Lambo's gag of turning adult makes for good Shounen stuff. But I feel him and Haru and many others like Gokudera are better suited and in those comedy Arcs since they're development, especially Lambo, isn't very strong
Oh boy, A lot to say about this topic: -Dorondororon was a particularly bad read for me because halfway into it there's what I thought was pretty obvious axe signposting so I mentally checked out at that point yet it kept going for 10+ chapters. -I watched the first episode of Reborn! and thought to myself "yep, I don't need to see anymore of that" -I tried reading the first chapter of Chagecha and just couldn't because of how ugly everything was. It's the Garbage Pail Kids of manga. I didn't know it was from the Bobobo guy. Wow. My own vote for worst Jump manga has to be Earthchild. The first chapter is nice but every subsequent chapter feels like its own hail-mary paradigm shift
Yeahhh Doron was like that for me too, I dont think its in the same tier as most of the manga in this video but Im surprised it outlived Ayashimon and ended up going on for way longer than expected! I don't blame anyone for not sticking with it for its opening arc, and tbh for stuff after too, its for sure an acquired taste or a nostalgia thing in Reborns case. Garbage pail kids manga is perfect, its soooo disgusting for sure! Ahhhh with Earthchild its first chapter was good, and then afterwards it was fun to see it go off the rails so while its very bad theres a few positive things that keep me from saying its the absolute worst. I did almost talk about it and the author since EC, Soul Catchers and Light Wing all kind of suck imo, but instead I trimmed the video down since I was already mentioning light wing in the football section
You’re missing out on reborn then. It was a gag manga originally so it’s a bit slow and repetitive to start but after it transitions to a shounen vibe it’s dope
I've wanted to get into hitman reborn for awhile now, its always been a manga that's been very on and off for me and i managed to get about 90 or so chapters in which i have been enjoying. But it's also weird for me because what really draws me in to Reborn is without a doubt the aesthetic. All the characters especially tsuna look so cool with badass poses/designs, the art is really nice minus the poor scan quality, and the DRIP bro....10/10. But the more I learn about the story of hitman reborn the less interested I become. I feel like this is one of those manga that become people's favorite because they love it for what it is or they've already decided that this is their kind of manga, rather than it having genuinely amazing writing. I'm not doubting that Reborn is a good story or has interesting takes on the shonen formula, but I have yet hear anything truly notable about what hitman reborn does as a story and it just kinda seems like a pretty normal battle manga.
Yeah i pretty much feel like that too, and without talking about its aesthetics it really falls apart for me and becomes a very average battle shounen which is why I covered it, It never lived up to its reputation for me.
Apparently Inumarudaishi relies a lot on Japanese referential humor that doesn't translate well to English. Something funny though is that throught its 4 year run, it never got the cover or lead color, not even for its first chapter.
Oh wow, tbh I never noticed! At some point likely for the history videos I'll cover it more in depth but its a pretty interesting one for it's pretty unique run
Yeah, I just dont agree with your Reborn takes. There's a couple pointless fights, and Haru and Kyoko aren't great, but other than that I strongly disagree.
Thats perfectly fine, I knew this would be the most polarizing one since a lot of people love the series, thanks for keeping it civil and commenting though!
i rewatched the 200 or so episodes of reborn recently and yeah, i wouldnt say Chrome is objectified as much but i have to agree that she is just wasted potential as someone said in the comments. And i have nothing to say about how the writer treats women cuz everything said in the video is truth. which is crazy if you consider that the author IS a woman
I like Hitman Reborn. It's not a good run as a whole, but when it hits its stride, it does shine through. Too bad that two very important arcs, the very final one and the longest future arc, aren't very good.
Man and I thought I would carry the sporting salt joke until you covered 2014. But now that it has been covered, i may let that joke to rest. But it was a nice time memeing with you. 😂
Ahaha no worries its been funny to see! Still I might do an axe files on it or something one day, it is sadly not fully translated though (Or thankfully XD)
idk what it says about me that sporting salt and chagecha sound fun to me. i'm sure i'll change my mind when i read them but i heard "bobobo guy with yanki elements" and "wacky gadgets" and my brain released endorphins
Since not many people have read them maybe there is some stuff to be enjoyed, like a Bobobo fan might enjoy Chagecha somehow, im not sure since I havent read Bobobo myself. And if your into sports medicine I guess sporting salt could be interesting
Hitman Reborn holds a lot of nostalgic value for me, but I certainly won't die on its hill. It is pretty forgettable even though I liked some character designs.
I think if I read it much younger I can see it being a lot more magical which is definitely valid! It has some pretty fun bits now and then, just wish it tapped into them more
Candy Flurry really fumbled an interesting concept, most of the characters have the same personality- oblivious and kinda dumb. then at second to last chapter we get the story beat that 'oh no! the bad guys were experimental subjects! Isn't that messed up?!' in a tell don't show fashion that doesn't really endear the readers to their plight
7:41 I don’t understand hating Samurai 8. I guess at time there was a weird fan push of Samurai 8 vs Boruto for the role successor in the community. I have been rereading it recently and the world building is solid. They show what is present but a lot is historical in verse so it would hurt the pacing if they kept cutting to the past when they reference it.
I'd love to cover it in depth in the future as an axe file, and I did make a first impressions video. Overall though I like it, great artwork, amazing creative panelling. Fun characters and abilities, the overall idea for the story is good, its pacing and execution could have been better though. Still I think its emotional beats hit for me so I enjoyed it a ton!
7:36 Kishimoto should’ve just quit while he was ahead. He barely landed the ending of Naruto and Boruto is practically a joke. I’m convinced he just got lucky for the most part lasting as long as he did because “Naruto” is the anime equivalent of “spaghetti code.” “Samurai 8” was virtually unreadable, I did like the design of the main character’s master ( I’m bias what can I say!?).
Good video, it's nice to watch one of these from someone who really knows a lot about Jump. Some of these I agree with, especially Sporting Salt, I felt like I was the only one who remembered that travesty. Lady Justice also comes to mind, no idea how something like that was even in Jump, frankly.. And it might be a bit cliche, but U19 was so legendarily bad that it has its own phenomenon named after it. Reading that as it came out was a lot of fun, everyone was collectively making fun of it lol There was an old Jump manga from the 2000s, I forget its name, but it was also legendary in the Japanese community for having an MC that looked almost exactly like Luffy, to the point where a panel of it became a meme, I wish I remembered its name!
I think your thinking about: Tsugihagi Hyoryu Sakka for the Luffy like character! U19 was heavily considered but I think its kind of weirdly enjoyable for being bad, and with the U19 phenomenon id like to talk about it in its own video sometime i think. Lady Justice is pretty trashy too but similarly I think its kind of less miserable to read for me so I had some fun haha. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Honestly, though I like Reborn, I was not surprised to see it on the thumbnail. Most of your criticisms are things I agree with. I know it has a lot of problems, but I like the art style and characters enough to get past it. However, I'm not gonna defend its faults.
Sadly with this type of video I didn't get to praise it for its art and some characterswhich are great, but it's definitely an outlier here since I just wanted to talk about it
I remember watching reborn, it was hype in a few moments but damn it went boring when it wasnt. The art and the powers where cool but for me thats about it
Ok, I have a soft spot for KHR but, I can also objectively agree w you, especially as far as the female characters and fights are concerned, also the anime having a 30 episode bar of entry is asking a little too much of people, I think the fight w XANXUS was the highlight of it for me
It s kinda hard to talk abt KHR. Objectively speaking, it has a lot of writing problems for a story, but overall I enjoyed it. While the story is weak n random, the cast is lovable n the fights r awesome, so it s give n take I guess. I still dont think it deserves to be at the bottom, but if u hate the fights in a battle manga so much, then there s nothing u can do
Ehhh objectivity when discussing media is a slippery slope, ofc if I make a video like this it's going to be my subjective opinion. I mention in the video "What context it's the worst" so I wouldnt put it at the very bottom though, it's why i didnt make a straight top 10 worst, i think that would be a bit repetitive and boring
1:07 how is “Ice-Head”and “Doron” are the worst!? They’re pretty basic and don’t take enough risks in regards to “Doron” and boring characterization in terms of “Ice-Head” (lil bit of Doron too).
I started reading reborn when I was very young, around 8 or 9 years old, so I don't know how sexist or fujobait it is, but the only thing I know is that It's a really cool manga. Even if I read it again. I still like it.
Hitman Reborn by far and away is Leagues better than Naruto, especially Shippuden. Idk Trent's goofy self thought h was cookin with that vague, unenthused rant n when it comes to Female objectification comparing it to Naruto no less is beyond hypocritical givin how useless n undermined all of Kishimoto's Female characters are [Karin, Sakura especially]. Surprised this hypocrite didn't bring up Fire Force for Tamaki alone
I dont think I have any particular ground-breaking takes on Reborn, just my opinions, Naruto aint great with its female rep but its leagues better than Reborn, I think most manga are in their female casts overall. Also Fire Force isnt a Jump manga 😅
Your difinitely right about reborn putting in the list being controversial. You definitely should put why its worse rather than saying its worse because you dislike some of its aspects. Its not bad to have opinions on things but why you have to make others have low expectations for others to reador or watch? Its like your implying to not read the manga just because you dont like of its aspect. The are other things too I'd like to point out, that the initial part of the reborn is one of it's weakest part and after it became into a battle shonen that's it becomes better which you find weak and which many like. Its like your opinion on reborn is opposite to others. Overall your opinion on reborn doesn't justify what makes it worse nor doest it explains, you just point out things that you dislike and classified it as "worst"
I did say "why it's the worst", I literally put it in context. It's the worst in regards to it's length and as one of Jumps long runners. And yes this video is me giving my opinions, because I do want people to listen and potentially I want to influence people, am I meant to be a blank slate? Humans dont exist to just say empty things, therese purpose behind our ideas and thoughts, and mine are for people to maybe lower their expectations of Reborn going in. Whats the worst that can happen then? They think oh well I was told its not so great. Your literally doing the same thing as me by expressing your opinion. But idk what you expect, theres no real objective way to say something is bad a lot of the time, and I give more than fair justification as to why it's the worst, read the comments by people who have read reborn, a lot of people agree with me while still enjoying the series
I love hitman reborn to death, its been a big inspiration for me and my own art and plotlines. With that being said, Hitman reborn somehow has made me jump in my seat yet piss me off at the exact same time, namely some of the characters quirks like gokudera Doing tricks on tsuna almost all the time. I get why of course, but when you're getting angry at the guy trying to tell you the game plan on how to stop the main villain, at that point, shut the fuck up.
It's a bit of a polarizing experience yeah, theres definitely parts of Reborn I really liked so I'm glad people are up to discuss it reasonably even if they liked it since I was a bit clickbaity
I don’t know if hit man is clickbait but that manga is awesome. It went down hill yes but majority of it was fire. I dislike the anime other than it’s fight scenes
The same reason why you dislike Sam8 is why i dislike My Hero Academia with introducing Deku as a quirkless protrag just to give him one that is pretty boring. Very interesting picks.
Sameee tbh I kind of wish Deku was quirkless and had to get by through his own intuition and abilities, to just go through the story as him but oh well.
Can't really say I agree with hitman reborn being on this list being considered Is a worst. It's especially since it was kind of one of jump's most popular, But you did say your opinion so I guess I can't be too mad about it. Anyway once again great video
To me KHR was quite the ride. I binged the hell out of the anime in summer 2008, to the extent that my eyes were burning as hell. I loved the Kokyou and Varia arc, but starting with the future arc everything went downhill and got dragged out. Akira Amano, as a woman, should be ashamed because of the abyssmal treatment of the female characters in this series. In regards of the least sympathetic protagonist in WSJ history, Haimura Enjirou from Smokey B.B. was a at least holding a candle to Manabizaki Kyou. Samurai 8 was a mess. You know, I am from Austria, a small country next to Germany. So when in comes to english I only can rely on the amount I learned at school, which is mostly enough to get the content of the manga I read. But this one was so overloaded with content from the get go, that I got tired and confused very early on and I was actually glad when it got the axe so I wouldnt have to try to follow the story anymore. Never read Inumaridashi, never had any plans doing so and after this vid I probably never will.
Glad to hear peoples opinions on Reborn, theyre all very different, and that people recognize its female casts an issue. Yeah Smoky B.B. was another one I didnt vibe with due in part to its MC, Kyou sticks out more but I did make a video on SWOT recently so it makes sense. Yeah even being from the UK and knowing english since birth Samurai 8 was a test in patience with its dialogue and exposition! Glad to be of service in steering people away from Inumarudashi haha
@@TrentinArt Oh! You are from the UK! I somewhat assumed that you are an american citizen🙈. So there was probably no reason to explain to you, where Austria is located 😄
Haha it's okay!! I dont think I really mention it but yep I'm from Wales in the UK, id actually like to make a video on it appearing in anime/manga sometime since its a pretty seldom talked about country!
you’re speaking more of a problem with shounen in general when it comes to females with hitman reborn, idk you sound super whiny when talking about the series than genuine criticism but the rest of the video is okay especially the sports section since not many people bring up all the sports franchises
Ehhh it depends a lot of newer stuff doesn't have this problem. It was annoying and took me out of the manga so of course I'm going to whine about it? That said I think it'd still valid criticism, glad you enjoyed the rest though
Is it a shonen "problem"? Shonen is aimed at 12-year-old boys. They want to see cute and sexy girls in the manga but also read about characters they empathize with, aka boys with boys' interests. Spending too much time on female characters is outside the main genre demographics; if you want that, read a Shoujo Magical Girls series.
you can still have a young male character have be the lead and have focus on without a mediocre written female character that follows them, most get the audience difference
I think byakuran reborn ark was the high point. The ending was rather pointlessly drawn out. I was a fan of the strange friendship of the main boys. Women certainly exit in reborn. Is strange because the female manga author you'd think they had have more than an eye for writing females. I think I would have drove down his popularity but I actually think bl elements could have been added to the series to make it more balanced. Mostly I like the art it's a little busy but it has this strong feminine painterly style.
Since it was more about the negatives I didnt get to touch on the art much which is gorgeous, I bet even more-so if it had better scans, the colour illustrations are great though! I also still really like Tsuna, Gokudera, yamamoto and Ryohei, they're all very fun characters and I love how theyd interact and stuff, Im sure it had a pretty big BL scene tbh, and if Jump/ the world was more open it being offically more BL oriented would have been my jam haha
@@TrentinArt well I use to love “Naruto” I’ve stuck with it till the very end while it was still “current” and publishing. A few years ago my wife was getting into “Boruto” and I swore “Naruto” is better than convinced her to watch it. Upon rewatch I realized that knowing how things pan out it was bad. The more and more I thought about it the worse it got. I had issues while reading it but rewatching it retroactively ruined it.
Reborn for me was great every show has it ups and downs and I hear you but the ups for reborn are to good to call a bad manga it was a really fun manga of its time The power system made up for bad characters n story points for me the boxes were so dope with the anything n everything can be in it and the color flame and how they fight each other’s is peak
I don't disagree with you on a lot of things, but saying Hitman Reborn is one of the worst shonen out there is beyond clickbait to me and not the biggest fan of it myself but the main cast of characters plus the antagonists with the power system was really good to me and yeah the women aren't that good but you can say that for a slew of other shonens also how the author pivoted from comedy to more action based was a nice shift since no way the gag elements could be the main factor but still keeping it light from time to time to me but to be honest I'm anime only so never read the last final arcs but heard a wild mix of things. Anyway I think there's far worse shonen out there even rn like something like Nues Exorcist and think Hitman Reborn has more to offer than what you said here still an interesting video though.
Ohh for sure, that's why I think it's the "worst" in the context I put it in, and its totally in the video because its an opinion that is clickbaity but something I also want to talk about. It has its prod for sure, way more than any other series in the video, hopefully I got across that its in a different league! Hope you enjoyed the rest
@@TrentinArt I never said you didn't explain why or how you think it's so bad in the video with your opinion. But just think it's a crazy and ludicrous thing to say still think it has more pros than cons for me but can see where you're coming from I guess either way definitely something out of the norm hope to see other stuff maybe like this. 👍
@@TrentinArt I must've watched it at the perfect place and time in my life to have strong feelings for it as well beyond just nostalgia or bias for it and probably wouldn't think the same maybe if I rewatched it today or for the first time.
9:07 not all samurai are male and not all princesses are female. A Princess can have multiple samurai. To put the dynamic in a heteronormative box like that is cringe and sexist.
I read like 8 chapters like 5 years ago, chill out! I'm pretty sure I mention as much. To me the manga itself defined that hetronormative box at the time so don't go finger wagging me. My tune could change on a re-read
@ I understand the Guardian of the Witch/ Samurai 8 buffer and fighter style power systems could be off putting in the wrong hands. In the short time they had both manage to explore their characters and the world with that system to great affect. Guardian of Witch didn’t get to live as long and I haven’t reread it recently so I’m not sure if it expanded beyond heteronormative. It’s a type system I wouldn’t mind seeing more variations of.
In my honest opinion.... KHR never should have been a shonen, but a Shoujo instead. Considering the rabid fujoshi's and how there's barely any women in this series on top of Amano's lackluster writing it would have made a lot more sense for the series to be a different demographic
I hated Our Blood Oath I already don't like Vampire stories (Jojo & Call Of The Night & Vanitas are exceptions) but my God that was the most bland Manga I've ever read it was so boring it pissed me off Build King tho is the worst Shit Author making a shit Manga
your right about hitman reborn its like a 3/10 the women are like very useless even in the last arc (correct me if i am wrong) they called them selves cheer leaders LOL. i got more problems but this is just a funny one i noticed
I think hitman reborn is peak fiction, but i agree 100% that girls are disgustingly underutilized especially since a woman wrote it, and that the Villains at least for what ran in the anime are boring. Byakuren put me to sleep lmao. Personally i think everything else besides those 2 things are great. You were lowkey spitting
Thank you! It for sure has a bunch of upsides which I didnt get to mention, just by virtue of what kind of video this is but always happy to see people can agree with some of my points while still enjoying the series!
Alright I agree with your takes on Reborn I loved the anime aside from the filler I thought the way the women were used was trash as well, but I also agree about the fights as well, tons of bs power ups but I enjoyed the story overall Except the Inheritance Ceremony Arc and the Last Arc I started reading the manga at the inheritance ceremony arc and at first it was cool. But I hated it around the time the battles began. I finished that arc and began the Rainbow Arc or whatever and dropped it shortly Still hold the anime decently high tho Overall I agree with you basically
I'm glad some people do agree with how I feel, I think its a much more polarizing series when people actually start discussing it, and tbh I think I kind of enjoyed the last 2 arcs more than some of the middle stuff, so it definitely varies from person to person. Thanks for your comment!
@@TrentinArt no problem man If I'm being more honest I actually liked the Future stuff more It has been a while though I tried rewatching it and I made it to the beginning of the future saga before dropping the rewatch Not a reflection on quality, it's just the most familiar I am with any media I've already consumed or even have yet to consume through spoilers, the less likely I am to enjoy it. I hate talking media with specific friends for that reason, they just can't have a meaningful conversation about anything media related unless they can say whatever they want about it Anyway I remember it being good but the constant power ups and the way they tackled the implementation of an enemy who's wiped out our heroes side was not my cup of tea even back then Some of the anime fillers really helped flesh out the hopeless atmosphere of it tho I'm glad not everyone is giving you crap for your opinions though, they're very well founded from my perspective
Oh for sure, tbh ive had no negative comments so far, some pretty nice discussion on why people enjoy the series which I like! I didnt vibe with it but it lasted as long as it did for good reason!
[Reborn spoilers ahead] There was a time when Reborn was my absolute favorite series, and I even made a bunch of great friends specifically because of it, so even with my current standing on the series, I can't help but hold a soft spot in my heart for it. However, after approximately the halfway point, the plot beats became less and less engaging for me. The latter two arcs, neither of which made it to the anime, were especially frustrating because their initial concepts (a rival mafia family with new Dying Will Flames and the Arcobaleno recruiting the various factions from across the story to compete against each other) were both extremely exciting and both completely failed to stick the landing. On a certain level I do appreciate that they veered away from their premises, but they did it without fully capitalizing ON those premises first, so the "twists" felt unsatisfying. The finale in particular was really the last straw, with Tsuna effectively denying all of the development that he'd had across the entire series, making everything up to that point feel inconsequential. Coupled with the poor and at times insulting treatment of the female cast (Tsuna STILL being unable to choose between Haru and Kyoko at the end, further proving my above point!), the end of the series left me contemplating the preceding four or five years I'd spent as such a big fan. But my biggest personal gripe, which I might have been able to look past the poorly delivered plot beats and character development for if it had ever been fixed, is the power system. More specifically, the aforementioned rival family - the Simon Family's Seven Flames of the Earth were not at all properly explored! Not only did each of them only get ONE fight (despite appearing in the Arcobaleno arc), they didn't even all show what their powers were! Julie's Desert Flame was shown to cast illusions, but it was never explained how it was different from REGULAR illusions or Mist Flames, and Kaoru's flame was both never shown AND never NAMED!!! Mind you, he HAD a fight! He HAD the opportunity to show it! Hell, the villain of the arc COPIED EVERYONE'S POWERS! HE had the opportunity to show it and still didn't! Then we got to see all of the symbols for the Earth Flames, but it wasn't at all established which was which, and we couldn't even see them all clearly! And don't even get me started on the fact that we never got a color page to show off what the Flames actually look like! Reborn had color pages at the time, there were definitely opportunities! I've seen manga fail to stick the landing, I can forgive it to an extent. But to deliberately ignore entire chunks of your own power system??? It's been haunting me for like twelve years!!!
I think a lot of what you said really puts into perspective some of my feelings towards the story, theres a lot of cool stuff there but its not always wholly excavated. It stings even more because with its runtime it should ideally have a lot of this stuff nailed down. I feel like a good portion likely love it because of its central cast (the boys anyway and maybe some villains) which really help carry it at times, plus the art's gorgeous. It's an odd series, not one thats actually super bad like the rest here but one I think deserves to be looked at more critically since I dont see that many people discuss it, I'm glad people still do like the series and have a fondness for it though and it seems people havent taken it as me trying to shut that aspect of it down. Thank you for your comment!
I like it, but I really agree with your point of view. When I was younger, I loved reading Reborn, it's one of the mangas that I was able to finish, to the end. But, for me the worst arcs start in the middle of the future arc, too many battles, some serve no purpose and others are never properly exploited. The final arc is a big mistake. The good news is that Amano has a great character designer. Samurai 8 is forgettable. I would add all the sales and marketing to create an atmosphere and the return of Kishimoto, which served no purpose, I think, it's my opinon it is why this manga missed a lot of publicity for nothing. PS: The debut on the raccon on this trash, give me a smile
I feel kind of bad since I dont want to rob peoples nostalgia from them haha, it definitely seems like a series I would have loved a lot more when I was younger, Amano can draw really well though, I hope one day I'll get to praise her art in another video! Samurai 8's hype was very interesting because yeah ultimately it led nowhere, I'm glad you liked the Racoon, I think theyre so cute and it made sense as background footage, thank you for your comment!
While I clicked the video to object to reborn being called the worst, since while it is flawed I enjoyed it a decent amount, once you explained it was in the context of it being the most disappointing due to length and hype, I was like, ok that’s fair . Your point about the female cast was also dead on. Still wouldn’t put it with my personal worst, but I see the logic
Thank you for your comment! If it was a simple top 10 worst or something it wouldn't be there but It is a manga I had issues and wanted to touch on briefly, I'm glad people are actually discussing it within the context I brought up
I don't think it's nearly as bad as Reborn, Nezuko isn't great but a few of the pillars are cool. It's also way more structurally sound as a story than reborn and half the length 😅
I don’t know about that, but imo it fumbles a lot more then the female characters. Most of the characters and there arc’s get fumbled as well. A perfect example of this is Zenitsu’s arc which doesn’t feel earned in the slightest.
The only well-written Woman in DS are Shinobu and Tamayo. Nezuko,Kanao,Mitsuri and every other females all have problems Poorly Written e.g. Nezuko, Mitsuri Poorly Handled e.g. Kanao, Mitsuri Turned into princess that needs protecting e.g. Daki, Mitsuri Female Character gets Merit/Glory stolen and given to a Male Character e.g. Mitsuri, Daki. A Glorified Love Interest e.g. Kanao,Mitsuri. I honestly think this author is better at designing female characters than writing and scripting them. There's no women in this series that are strong and Well-written. You're either weak but have decent writing or strong but have mediocre/poor writing. The males are allowed to be both but the women don't have that luxury. The author cleary likes the guys way more.
Hitman Reborn is one of like 4 manga that I actively despise. I had a bet to read it and needless to say it was one of the least enjoyable series that I’ve ever read. The beginning so probably the worst and most boring first 60ish chapters ever man. And the characters were just so unlikable. Shonen manga are known for their found families and this is one of the few that’s cast did not mesh.
I like Hitman reborn
I'm glad people do, wish I did wholly but sadly some stuff muddles it for me
It is the only manga series in this list I am still interested in reading. Not sure about samurai 8, though. Kishimoto didn't hit the mark with this series like he did with Naruto.
Same, i like Katekyo Hitman Reborn too
Imagine KHR not being in you're top 5 favorite Shounen. Wouldn't be me.
Its so cartoony It might show up on UA-cam Kids.
I believe I should pass on all of them except Hitman Reborn. I'll read that series as long as I still enjoy.
Tbh I probably should have said something along those lines since its definitely in a different tier to the rest of the manga I cover in the video
You are a VERY brave man for including reborn haha.
but in all seriousness, i respect your opinion. Like you said, this list is subjective and I understand that (storywise) Reborn is not for everybody
Besides there has been series that you've praised in this channel that i will personally never be interested in but hey that the great thing about manga, there's something for everybody
For sure! Theres soooo many manga in Jump alone that one persons tastes wont ever be the same, it's definitely the most volatile opinion I had in this video but I think I was pretty fair and glad to actually hear from some Reborn fans who're being pretty chill about it! Thanks for you comment!
im genuinely shock you didn't put Nue’s Exorcist here
I may be a Nue Hater, but I also recognize It's not as bad as most of the manga I cover here XD
@@TrentinArt I think modern manga is more good quality than it was in the past.
@@AA-ux6gg Hmmmm I think its all interesting tbh! I love a lot of new stuff and discovering older manga like in my history videos is a ton of fun too!
@@TrentinArt oops I meant they have more better quality
I agree with the gag stuff actually
Lambo's gag of turning adult makes for good Shounen stuff. But I feel him and Haru and many others like Gokudera are better suited and in those comedy Arcs since they're development, especially Lambo, isn't very strong
Honestly she sucks at writing comedy
Oh boy, A lot to say about this topic:
-Dorondororon was a particularly bad read for me because halfway into it there's what I thought was pretty obvious axe signposting so I mentally checked out at that point yet it kept going for 10+ chapters.
-I watched the first episode of Reborn! and thought to myself "yep, I don't need to see anymore of that"
-I tried reading the first chapter of Chagecha and just couldn't because of how ugly everything was.
9:03 the art of Samurai 8 is fantastic and has no elements that could be considered offensive unless you reach pretty hard.
i rewatched the 200 or so episodes of reborn recently and yeah, i wouldnt say Chrome is objectified as much but i have to agree that she is just wasted potential as someone said in the comments.
6:44 RIP “MMA” 😭. I’m loving “Green green greens” it has amazing character writing and their enthusiasm for the sport is infectious.
Yeahh um glad we have GGG as another good sports series to fall back on at least
idk what it says about me that sporting salt and chagecha sound fun to me. i'm sure i'll change my mind when i read them but i heard "bobobo guy with yanki elements" and "wacky gadgets" and my brain released endorphins
Since not many people have read them maybe there is some stuff to be enjoyed, like a Bobobo fan might enjoy Chagecha somehow, im not sure since I havent read Bobobo myself. And if your into sports medicine I guess sporting salt could be interesting
7:58 One of the main reasons I couldn't get into Orient and dropped it after 2 volumes
Hitman Reborn holds a lot of nostalgic value for me, but I certainly won't die on its hill. It is pretty forgettable even though I liked some character designs.
It has some sick art yeah, I can definitely respect if someone holds it dear for things like nostalgia too!
8:26 the story goes out of way to say he’s still the same person. That is still part of who he is and is a factor throughout.
I enjoyed Reborn but I can't imagine myself reading it now.
Damn bruh that Hitman reborn take gotta be the worst take on a manga
Idk even if you disagree with me im sure people have made far worse than anything I've ever said haha
What was your opinion on Mamayuyu? Excited for the new video as always!
That's probably going to happen in the future.
I can see why you wouldn’t like hitman reborn but so good
7:36 Kishimoto should’ve just quit while he was ahead.
The little cat guy? Yeah He was probably my favourite part
@@TrentinArt lol no the Black Chick in the beginning
14:01 lol “Moriking” had so much potential as a battle manga. What a waste.
0:18 Not be confused with Hiroshi Takahashi's Worst.
Saw KHR on the thumbnail and came to rant, but I'll stick around to see your perspective.
I appreciate that, even if you don't agree hope you enjoy the rest!
Should've done top 10 worst finished SJ titles. Also only 2K subs? DAMN SON. Here's a sub.
Possibly yeah! Although I did want to mention a lot of these weaker axed manga. Hope you enjoy future videos!
Reading that as it came out was a lot of fun, everyone was collectively making fun of it lol
There was an old Jump manga from the 2000s, I forget its name, but it was also legendary in the Japanese community for having an MC that looked almost exactly like Luffy, to the point where a panel of it became a meme, I wish I remembered its name!
I have to agree with you about Hitman Reborn, I genuinely have no idea why it has such a good reputation
Only good thing about it is the art
Honestly, though I like Reborn, I was not surprised to see it on the thumbnail. Most of your criticisms are things I agree with. I know it has a lot of problems, but I like the art style and characters enough to get past it. However, I'm not gonna defend its faults.
Sadly with this type of video I didn't get to praise it for its art and some characterswhich are great, but it's definitely an outlier here since I just wanted to talk about it
I remember watching reborn, it was hype in a few moments but damn it went boring when it wasnt.
The art and the powers where cool but for me thats about it
That sums up some feelings I have for it too yeah
inumaru sounds like a weaker version of shin chan
Potentially yeahh Shinn chan sounds like a lot more fun
I'm a fan of KHR, but I respect your criticism.
Thank you! 🫡
I just watched 1.5 anime episodes of Hitman Reborn...
I HATE IT
Wish that Martial Master Asumi didn't get canned. It was solid from the get and was picking up steam for me.
Yeahhh it was very solid, was sad to see it go
1:07 how is “Ice-Head”and “Doron” are the worst!? They’re pretty basic and don’t take enough risks in regards to “Doron” and boring characterization in terms of “Ice-Head” (lil bit of Doron too).
I don't think they are, but people will say so. Just highlighting there's worse than thrm
@@TrentinArt I personally think “Shojo Null” is just trauma slop (the worst thing I’ve read in SJ) yet it’s still going
I started reading reborn when I was very young, around 8 or 9 years old, so I don't know how sexist or fujobait it is, but the only thing I know is that It's a really cool manga. Even if I read it again. I still like it.
Yeaah i definitely dont mean to demean or take away from peoples nostalgia for it at all, Im glad it has fans!
I have great affection for reborn as it was one of the first long anime I watched but yeah, looking back it's so ass :^(
tell me about Sword Art Online.
My favourite cartoon 🤯🥳🤗
@@TrentinArt Nah I get it, Hitman reborns fault are a little obvious tho, my biggest gripe being the characters.
Kochikame looks 10 times better than Inumarudashi. Hell, I don't even read Kochikame.
Kochikame is wayyy better for sure, there's a reason it lasted 40 years haha
I don’t know if hit man is clickbait but that manga is awesome. It went down hill yes but majority of it was fire. I dislike the anime other than it’s fight scenes
The creator of hitman reborn Akira Amano is a woman.
Did I say otherwise??? I'm aware
Katekyo hitman reborn did not need to be that long oh my god
Yeahhh I agree, for it to be as long as it was it should've been a bit better at least
Can't really say I agree with hitman reborn being on this list being considered Is a worst. It's especially since it was kind of one of jump's most popular, But you did say your opinion so I guess I can't be too mad about it. Anyway once again great video
Thank you! And yep definitely opinion and its moreso in the context of being one of Jumps greats. Its my least favourite of those big Jump manga
I actually like SWOT, would have been interesting to have seen it with a proper plot.
Huh I'm quite surprised to see a few Swot fans here than there
@@TrentinArt Well, it has been a few years since I last read it, so maybe opinions changed, who knows? But I can say I enjoyed it when I was younger.
I'm glad some people do enjoy it, someone's gotta love it!
you’re speaking more of a problem with shounen in general when it comes to females with hitman reborn, idk you sound super whiny when talking about the series than genuine criticism but the rest of the video is okay especially the sports section since not many people bring up all the sports franchises
I won’t stand for Hitman Reborn slander
😅I dont think i slandered it that much tbf
KHR overrated, glad someone said it.
You must love vampire die in no time
I'm not sure what that is 😅
It's comedy manga in shonen champion and already has 2 cours anime
@@TrentinArt Just go watch it, you won't regret it
Anime Adaptation is pretty bland and nothing notable
KHR I agree with
It started to fall off after the future arc
“Shojo Null” is my least favorite followed by “Naruto”
Hmm interesting especially with Naruto being one of the bigger ones, Shojou null is a Jump + manga though, that said I'm not very fond of it either
Reborn for me was great every show has it ups and downs and I hear you but the ups for reborn are to good to call a bad manga it was a really fun manga of its time
The power system made up for bad characters n story points for me the boxes were so dope with the anything n everything can be in it and the color flame and how they fight each other’s is peak
For sure, sadly i didnt mention any of its ups here but I did enjoy its power system, a lot of fun ideas!
This doesn't have Nue's Exorcist in it so it's false
Fellow Nue hater here, it's definitely the worst manga currently in Jump but this list (minus Hitman reborn) is somehow worse
In my honest opinion.... KHR never should have been a shonen, but a Shoujo instead. Considering the rabid fujoshi's and how there's barely any women in this series on top of Amano's lackluster writing it would have made a lot more sense for the series to be a different demographic
??? This doesn't make sense
@@catsinburg8626 yes it does
Hitman was great, especially the last arc. (Though I do agree with the sexiest stuff though).
Please cover centuria
Possibly, it's not a Weekly Jump manga but the first chapter was great
You know you’re wrong for having Hitman reborn in the thumbnail
Tho if you were to start it would be different
Idk what you mean by this?
Hitman reborn is one of my fav manga...
Perfectly fine I can see why people do like it
Do “why realistic action is far from realistic”
I hated Our Blood Oath I already don't like Vampire stories (Jojo & Call Of The Night & Vanitas are exceptions) but my God that was the most bland Manga I've ever read it was so boring it pissed me off
Build King tho is the worst Shit Author making a shit Manga
OBO is pretty bland yeahh, and Build King is pretty low on my list too, not quite at the level of a few of these for me tho
I’m just happy Toriko or build king isn’t here
Can't really speak for Toriko but Build King isnt quite on the level of some series here
@@TrentinArt I love those series and it’s a shame Build king got axed so quickly, the potential was skyrocketing with each chapter
What's your take on Martial Master Asumi
It's pretty good and had the chops to be a good longer running MMA series but it just didnt get the sales/reception sadly
@TrentinArt would be interesting axe file vid
0:48
Is that youngdefiant channel lmao
I didn't really pat attention to who made the vids tbh 😅
your right about hitman reborn its like a 3/10 the women are like very useless even in the last arc (correct me if i am wrong) they called them selves cheer leaders LOL. i got more problems but this is just a funny one i noticed
Tbh I don't remember but I can believe it easily 😅
I think hitman reborn is peak fiction, but i agree 100% that girls are disgustingly underutilized especially since a woman wrote it, and that the Villains at least for what ran in the anime are boring. Byakuren put me to sleep lmao. Personally i think everything else besides those 2 things are great. You were lowkey spitting
Thank you! It for sure has a bunch of upsides which I didnt get to mention, just by virtue of what kind of video this is but always happy to see people can agree with some of my points while still enjoying the series!
What are your thoughts on Girl Meets Rock?
Sadly zero idea on what that is 😅
@@TrentinArt Another recent WSJ series about a band, also called Fuutsu no Keionbu in Japanese. It currently has 18 chapters.
Ahhh it's a Jump+ series and not WSJ, which makes sense since i dont follow all of those
@@TrentinArt Fair enough
Ahh man, why did you spoil JJK 48 seconds in?
Just showing videos that have been on the Internet for a good while now, sorry
Hitman reborn is really good
Glad you think so
Alright I agree with your takes on Reborn
I loved the anime aside from the filler
I thought the way the women were used was trash as well, but I also agree about the fights as well, tons of bs power ups but I enjoyed the story overall
Except the Inheritance Ceremony Arc and the Last Arc
I started reading the manga at the inheritance ceremony arc and at first it was cool. But I hated it around the time the battles began. I finished that arc and began the Rainbow Arc or whatever and dropped it shortly
Still hold the anime decently high tho
Overall I agree with you basically
I'm glad some people do agree with how I feel, I think its a much more polarizing series when people actually start discussing it, and tbh I think I kind of enjoyed the last 2 arcs more than some of the middle stuff, so it definitely varies from person to person. Thanks for your comment!
@@TrentinArt no problem man
If I'm being more honest I actually liked the Future stuff more
It has been a while though
I tried rewatching it and I made it to the beginning of the future saga before dropping the rewatch
Not a reflection on quality, it's just the most familiar I am with any media I've already consumed or even have yet to consume through spoilers, the less likely I am to enjoy it. I hate talking media with specific friends for that reason, they just can't have a meaningful conversation about anything media related unless they can say whatever they want about it
Anyway I remember it being good but the constant power ups and the way they tackled the implementation of an enemy who's wiped out our heroes side was not my cup of tea even back then
Some of the anime fillers really helped flesh out the hopeless atmosphere of it tho
I'm glad not everyone is giving you crap for your opinions though, they're very well founded from my perspective
Oh for sure, tbh ive had no negative comments so far, some pretty nice discussion on why people enjoy the series which I like! I didnt vibe with it but it lasted as long as it did for good reason!
Reborn disrespect in big 2024 is crazy also the author of reborn is a woman
I'm aware of who Akira Amano is, I don't think her gender changes anything
[Reborn spoilers ahead]
There was a time when Reborn was my absolute favorite series, and I even made a bunch of great friends specifically because of it, so even with my current standing on the series, I can't help but hold a soft spot in my heart for it.
DOCTOR YUMESUKE
calling reborn sexist but loving one piece is such a take
Tbf I think Sanjis main gag is a huge detriment to his character and the series overall and I would also complain about it a ton 😅
The biggest objection I have is to using the term "icky" if you're more than 6 years old.
😅I mean I could use the term Disgusting or, sickening but Icky fits for me
My personally worst/ most hated jump manga
-bleach
-red hood
-samurai 8
-demon's plan
-earthchild
-U19
Tbh I think Demons Plan is close to being on my list too but I had some fun laughing at it
Makes a worst shonen jump manga list, puts hitman reborn….huh?!!
Yup, just bear in mind the context I mention it in
nue exorcist worse than all these🫸🫷
It's pretty bad, definitely the worst currently running one, I still think it's "better" than all of these (aside from Hitman Reborn) but not by much
I don't like Hitman Reborn
Wow ... disgraceful. I can't believe you don't like our lord and saviour hitman reborn
If it was a simple top 10 worst or something it wouldn't be there but It is a manga I had issues and wanted to touch on briefly, I'm glad people are actually discussing it within the context I brought up
Hitman Reborn is Top 5 Jump manga, delusional.
I am more surprised the Demon Slayer isn’t on here because much like Reborn it squanders it’s female characters pretty badly.
Nezuko,Kanao,Mitsuri and every other females all have problems
Poorly Written e.g. Nezuko, Mitsuri
Poorly Handled e.g. Kanao, Mitsuri
Turned into princess that needs protecting e.g. Daki, Mitsuri
Female Character gets Merit/Glory stolen and given to a Male Character e.g.
Top 1 Worst Manga currently in Jump is Kagurabachi n Sakamoto Days by a large margin
Idk theyre both pretty solid and have their fans
Kagurabachi is mediocre for me
Sakamoto days is great
Hitman Reborn is one of like 4 manga that I actively despise.
I definitely didnt hate the beginning that much but the cast as a found family takes a lot more time to get working yeah
