I'm currently still watching the video (I'm on the Jungle King Tar-Chan section), but the moment I saw Dark Schneider on screen, a stupid grin was on my face. I'm so happy you discussed Bastard!! since fewer people talk about it. To give you the history of how I encountered the series, I was doing research for my reworked Jump Force roster as I was trying to find a character from a fantasy series to replace Dai from Dragon Quest. When I first saw Dark Schneider, I looked him up on UA-cam and discovered that the anime remake is coming soon. So, I waited not only for research but out of curiosity... And then, the show premiered; it was the best anime I've ever experienced. Mind you, I only watched the first half of season one due to life and never got back, but Bastard!! lives rent-free in my head. I was laughing hard, especially with episodes five and eight, where I realized, "Oh, the series doesn't give a damn," and I LOVE IT. I think the reason why I love Bastard!! (and Spy × Family) so much is because it wants to be its own thing rather than following the leader(s). Here's a personal rant; I have grown to hate how media nowadays are dark with people despising anything comedy or lighthearted: every horror game/movie is literally based on a children's property or idea (like a family pizza restaurant or a girly flash game), sometimes disguises itself as said things (like Doki Doki Literature Club!) story-driven cartoons (not anime) has become more prominent in contrast to how episodic cartoons dominated the West, not to mention shows like SMG4, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, and Helluva Boss abandoned what they're known for (i.e. the comedy and premise) to become story-driven with lore and drama for the worst. Even fan parodies become dark, not as in funny ha-ha dark but horror dark. The worst part is that I know people love them, and I don't want to take that away from them, including those who create them. I don't want to dive deeper into my rant, but my main problem is the oversaturation of dark stuff. Anyway, not only did I put Dark Schneider into my fan-made Jump Force roster, but he is one of my top five characters I want to be playable in a future Shonen Jump fighting game. I copy-and-paste my reasoning for adding Dark Schneider from my Reddit post, "Weekly J-Stars // My Ideal Weekly Shonen Jump Fighting Game (Roster & Story)" at r/makeafighter: *Dark Schneider - Y'all will be mad at me when I talk about this bastard, pun intended. For those who don't know, the dark fantasy series is known for its heavy metal references and ecchi moments, with the protagonist being the prime example. To give you an idea of how extreme the series is, every female character (no matter who they are) on this hypothetical roster would shit themselves the moment Dark Schneider approached them. Although his lustful nature might be toned down, one idea is once a female character is defeated, Dark Schneider's victory screens would show him 'enjoying' his time with them. Here are two examples of what I'm talking about: If Hitomi or Rui Kisugi are defeated, the victory screen will show them in Playboy Cat costumes with leashes held by Dark Schneider as if they were cats. If Ai Kisugi is defeated, the victory screen will show her in a cat-costume pajamas (since she's sixteen) and be jealous of her two sisters.*
Yeahhh i cant help but smile when I see him, hes such a fun character! And Bastard overall despite being a "Dark Fantasy series" with a lot of trimmings which people will draw associations to thinks like Berserk, its just fun! It doesn't always take it self seriously, its over the top and likes to switch its mood all the time! It really feels like someone's DnD campaign at times which was what it was partly inspired by iirc! Just a fun series!
Rokudenshi Blue is one of those series I've know about for such a long time but only that it was about high schoolers and boxing. I've always adored the art style and glad you highlighted how great it is. Definitely on my list of series to eventually check out. Bastard! is always a fun time and I remember the OVA from the 90s serving as a basis for learning about the less savory side of manga.
I can't believe I didn't know about this video series! The amount of research is truly incredible. You deserve a much bigger following and I expect you'll soon get it!
spent the last two nights preparing for a video and played all your history videos in the background. i learned so much. truly exceptional content, friend. your contribution to the preservation of manga history is greatly appreciate o7
Aww tysm Doofy glad you enjoyed them!! I'm really happy to shed even a small light on some of these manga and it helps that people find it interesting. Good luck on your video too!
if the dinosaur manga somehow would be a hit, it wouldve been a very interesting twist in jump for inspiring more monster/animalistic mangakas. imagine nowadays a jump mangaka would dare to do an dinosaur only manga
Awesome video as always, great detail on all of the shonen jump series from 1988 a few surprises that I really enjoyed that commercial for Sho no Dentetsu was hilarious 😂 I watched that multiple times, Dinosaur Journey looked really cool i definitely would give that a read, Jojo battle tendency is my all time favorite jojo part and like many other Jojo fans joseph is my favorite jojo yeah great video great job can't wait for 1989 😁
Really glad you liked the Sho no Dentetsu commercial, I thought it was such an odd find for an axed manga, clearly they were expecting something from it!! I cant wait for 1989 either!
Magical Taruruto kun is by Tatsuya Egawa of Golden Boy fame and has an anime show too. What an icon! There’s also Tar Chan by Masaya Tokuhiro, which also has spawned a 90s anime adaptation.
Omg i didn't know Bastard came out this year, I've been a big fan since my childhood. Ive always wanted to get into Rokudenashi Blues since i saw it in Jump Ultimate so many years ago but ive only read a couple chapters.
@@Miraihi I'm well aware, he even mentioned it in the video lol. Still haven't watched it despite being excited for it pre release, it doesn't look that good, does it excel in anything besides manga accuracy?
@@projectmessiah In my opinion it does look good. Well, the openings for both seasons are amazing. All the problems of Bastard!!! 2022 anime are also the problems of the source material, like the "villain of the week" structure of the first season/arc that may get tiring.
Out of all of the series represented here, jojo part 2 and Bastard!! Are the one of the mangas I’ve actually engaged with especially Bastard!! Unfortunately I do wish that manga was still available but Bastard!! Only got up to volume 19. But attests the manga does have a fan translation that I’ve been following since summer of this year, I wish this was still in print but at least the Japanese volumes are still available. As for jojo part 2 I’ve started collecting it because I love those hard covers.
The Jojoniums are great!! Im lucky enough to have the first 4 parts! Bastard though yeah... I wish it got picked up again by someone for a physical release
@@TrentinArt same I would love it if I did have a copy of Bastard!! Myself since it’s an underrated 80s classic and for sure I will support the Netflix series. In the manga I’m nearly at the second arc of the series which I hear gets good so I should hop back onto it.
Jojos 2nd part is so fun, very indiana jones! though i find myself enjoying the anime adaptation of part 2 more than its manga. Bastard looks pretty cool, never heard of it, the other long highlights here i had heard about it but havent read either lol. Dinosaur journey wouldve been way moe popular after jurassic park, which was still a few years off. I love the final segment of early ball, but the piccolo daimo arc is so mixed lol, not a big fan of the instant powerup goku gets there. But the 23rd tournament is amazing, really fun and cool, not my fav tournament here but its really satisfying seeing goku finally win.
great episode yet again with many awesome ones. i only watched the anime for jungle king and it was pretty fun. mostly for the tournament arcs in the later parts. also seems like the anime toned down the gross out humor in the manga by a lot lol but it does have some great opening and ending themes
Omg 50:21 minutes 😱 the largest video of this section until now. 20:12 I read its first chapter, I like it, in spanish unofficial translator only have 64 chapters...I expect that the english unofficial translator be finish, anyway, why this manga isn't an official publication? Yepp some real wild stuff in Cosmo Striker hahaha! And yeah Bastard is pretty old, maybe the hiatus'es make it seem a bit younger than it is! It has some berserk-ish elements but is a lot more campy and fun, it isnt as serious tho still I really think its worth reading! Yeahhh that Ad I found is odd, even weirder since it focuses on a manga that really flopped! Oh and enjoy Cyber Blue!!
Just 1! It's not a set thing but I think people usually say it starts and ends with dragon ball, maybe Fist of the north star sometimes too.so 1984 to 1995 I think
With the decline of physical magazines im not sure tbh. Though Jump has done well with getting hits like Kimetsu no Yaiba and Jujutsu Kaisen back to back, it's still on the decline if i remember correctly like all physical magazines. Bastard!! alongside JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are my favorite underground and niche Jump mangas
I mean JoJo's is anything but underground for the last 10 years
the goat is back with the next history
Heck yeah!!
The legend is here again, and let's go, we got JoJos, Bastards, and Namekians
