Shonen Jump has a pile of video games, specifically terrible shonen jump crossover fighters (brawlers is probably a better word tbh), and most of them are just the worst. At least the DS games are pretty good. Jump Force had some potential, but idk, I think there's more than a few reasons it's not hitting the tourny stage. The one thing I'll actually praise Jump Force for is that Yugi and Kaiba are amazing picks. I don't care what color Goku's hair is today; a teenager kicking his ass with an overpowered trading card is sublime.

@@heinokunzelmann8967 it was a long time ago too. Not saying that in a "we shouldn't hold it against him way" but in explaining why no-one knows about it. Late2017-early18 was when we had a big news cycle about Nobuhiro Watsuki, but it was 2002 that Mitsutoshi Shimabukoro was arrested violating for child prostitution laws, and not many people knew who he was until near the end of Toriko in 2016 (and as you said, not many people even care about Toriko or know manga author's name)
I can't fathom why he couldn't just pay legal age prostitutes to dress in school uniforms.
@@redgrave4492 Not to exculpate him, because not at all, but Japan has a farily big problem of teenagers prostituting themselves to get some cash, and disgusting old men are happy to oblige. Some DO lie about their age, and Toriko's author says that the girl did. Still could have make sure, if that was really a worry for him, and the fact that he didn't makes it clear that even if he was lied to, he didn't care that much about it until he was caught.

@@garyconstanza3120 Once Unreal Engine 4 came out there was a trend of people making videos of popular characters running around generic test areas with default maxed out graphics settings. They'd be shared and commented on with things like "(Nintendo, Sega, Sony) hire this man!" Jump Force's "aesthetics" feel like a whole game of that.

Sakura having stand attacks is cannon. It’s like her inner voice that comes out and smacks Naruto when he’s doing something stupid. It’s more of a gag then a real attack tho

There is nothing canon about it. It is simply a visual representation of her inner-self which is a lot more outspoken then the personality she shows openly. It is not some super power she can attack with.

I think it’s because in Japan bleach was never considered to be apart of the big 3, it was always naruto especially when you consider how well dbz naruto and one piece have sold compared to bleach. There’s actually a really huge gap between them

I hate how anime games today are just Arena Fighters which can be considered the Sports games from japan done every single year.
Blame Bandai's bland ass for creating these piles of shit and their fanbase for supporting this overdone bullshit. In Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker, they added a "Battle Royale" which was basically a fucking arena fighter shoved mode into an already mediocre game with 10 or so players and limited fighting space.

Apparently at some point in the 2010s, the Shaman King IP was bought out by Kodansha, hence why Yoh hasn't made an appearance in later Jump crossovers.
Which is so sad because Shaman King deserves all the love it could ever get.

Interestingly, Yoh was at one point going to be in J-Stars Victory Vs as a support character, but was unfortunately cut from the roster before the game was finished. My guess is that the reason why he didn't make it into the final game was because of Shaman King being bought by Kodansha. 😅

13:01 To be fair though, City Hunter is worth the watch and it holds up pretty well. Also Ryo Saeba is honestly overpowered AF. Not only does he have the physical strength to hold 2 rocket launchers, his accuracy with firearms rivals trained professionals. He can shoot you 30 meters away with his .44 Magnum Pistol without hitting any of your vital organs, can accurately shoot you in pitch black darkness just by using the flickers of the bullets, can shoot an entire chamber of bullets and have all of them go through one entry point, etc. He can also take a shit ton of physical punishment, and can literally outrun bullets.
Fun fact: there was a point in Jump Force where Ryo (in addition to Ichigo) was the best character in the game because he out ranged everyone

The 10-point target for the 10m distance discipline is just about the size of a barrel. And even just mediocre shooters hit that target rather consistently.
At a distance of less than 15 meters, it's pretty easy to hit a target of that size, even if you only know a small bit about what you're doing.
If you go out farther, up 25 meters, it starts getting a little harder. But even just looking at basic shot groups for the 25m distance, it's still comparatively easy. Most people with a decent bit of training would be able to hit a barrel-sized target, although probably not on the first shot.
Going up to 50 meters, *that* is where it actually gets hard. The average person would not hit that target at 50m.
However, well-trained athletes do consistently hit inside of a fist-sized radius around the perfect center, so every now and then a shot would hit the barrel at that range.
Anything farther out than 60m with a handgun, yeah, that's unfeasible. At that point it's almost entirely luck.
Of course, with a rifle it's different, but Ryo in the example uses a pretty standard handgun.

Toriko is actually a pretty insane manga with hype moments and well executed characters. The last arc was rushed but it has 1 of the best endings I have read for a shonen manga. Sad thing is, the anime was trash and it being made by Toei did not help as the series has tons of gore and blood. Like people die messed up ways and are even EATEN. Give the manga a try.
Finally!! Someone who appreciates Toriko's manga! I remember Ufotable doing an OVA of the 1st few chapters of Toriko in 2009.
Toriko a classic and agreed the ending was fantastic. Better than bleach and other shounen series.

Imagine of during all the loading screens in Jump Force, they showcased manga panels & told some history about the various series in the game. That alone would have shown some heart in the game.

Dude, they don't put Shaman King in games post Ultimate Stars because Shueisha LOST the rights to the series, the author took them to another editorial and magazine. They legally can't unless he allows it and after axing his manga TWICE right before the end, I doubt he would give Jump even the time of the day.

I sank so many hours into Jump Super/Ultimate Stars as a kid. Good times!
Definitely the best of them by far. I had hundreds of hours in Ultimate and convinced friends to get it so we had a group of like 5 people who played it every weekend.

I love J-Stars, there is so much dumb things there, deck building is super fun. I used to have assist Light Yagami, drop an apple on everyone that will kill them in 5 seconds if not blocked. was funny as shit!

I still remember Toriko because for a moment a lot of people thought that it will be the first shonen battle manga where the two protagonists were a gay couple. I am not joking. Those two were written to have chemistry. If you tell me the no homo ending was an editorial decision I would believe you.
I don't get why people act shocked when leads of a story have chemistry. They're supposed to or the moments where they talk about their bond will feel forced.

To be fair, in this particular case, they had less of "friends forever" energy and more "only you" energy, so it wasn't just people reading too much into it.
Jump Ultimate Stars and its prequel Jump Super Stars are absolutely incredible games. You don't even need to know much Japanese to figure out how to play them (but it helps), and you basically have Shonen Jump Smash Bros. Love love love those games.

I still have no idea why to this day developers want hyper realism when Cel Shading not only looks better, it's easier to develop, uses less memory AND it lasts forever through console generations and PC! Jstars Victory Vs was honestly such a fun game despite it's brokeness, I loved playing it with friends back in the day.
The only thing of note that comes to mind when i think of Jump force is that both Jump force and Smash brothers got Dragon quest characters as DLC in the same year, it was neat.
Good old Battlestadium, could never understand what the game wanted me to do.
For real, next time they do something like this-i really hope they just make a 2D fighter-in the same vein as DBFZ or BBcrosstag. No surprises, no trying to reinvent the wheel or try to make innovations with high risks of losing the audience. Just make a good 2d fighting game with mechanics that we already know work well. Hell, I'm sure arcsys would be willing

fun fact the reason that nobuhiro watsuki got free with only a slap on the wrist is because when he bought those videos they were legal but after the government change the law (raising the age of cosent) those videos became ilegal and those videos were found on a storage that he owned so technically the only thing he was guilty of was of not getting rid of them

I mainly use these games as a way to see what new anime I should look into like Reborn, The Adventures of Dai, Beelzebub, Saiki K. and so forth.
Jump Force really isn’t that bad when it comes to playing online if I’m being honest .Yeah it takes some getting used to the toxic players but because so many people left the community due to not wanting to actually practice a bit more and play the game longer to learn the reaction times and how to use the mechanics to your advantage, a lot of the remaining player base decides to play fairly.
You also get to pull off some amazing looking combos and fights from perfect dodging attacks so you could punish your opponent to switching characters while applying pressure with an ability to changing the arena to either force a character switch from your spamming opponent or take away their awakening meter the game has so much potential and cool things you can do it bums me out hearing people say they hate the game because you can’t change your team immediately after facing a friend or because you got spammed and decided not to practice how to outsmart cheesers but that’s just an opinion you know

the jump stars ds games were the first games i ever imported. downloaded a translation guide when i was 11 or 12 that i would carry around in a binder. loved those games to death
Kbash, I would give Toriko a try. The worldbuilding and story are some of the most creative I have seen.
I feel like for every step the Jump Force roster took, it took 2 steps back. We did get interesting and well deserved chars like Deku, Yugi Moto, Asta, but we also lost out on other interesting or popular chars from J-stars like Gintoki, Tsuna, and Medaka. I also feel that the Jump Force roster has a lot of filler picks in the roster, since the Dragon Ball, Naruto, and One Pice trilogy take up nearly half the roster, while other series like YuGiOh, Jojo, and Black Clover have barely as many reps as the bigger series
I wish Ryo Saeba was in a good game

I really enjoy Jump Force to be honest. It’s a fun game. It’s not a great game, but it’s a fun game, to me anyway. It’s not a game to be taken seriously either. Btw thank you for actually giving a good review of Jump Force instead of just saying “it’s trash” like a lot of people I see on UA-cam

toriko got limited exposure n push from shonen jump for the same reasons that the mangaka for ruroni kenshin got busted for (cp) except they actually fired torikos mangaka n canceled toriko while the other dude still has his job because he was "more important" torikos mangaka had already went to jail n paid fines for what he did and it happened years prior to toriko being released in the west but the info got out n they quickly got rid of him while kenshins mangaka basically got no punishment other than paying like a five thousand dollar fine i think
Best part about Jump Force is that the Unreal project got accidentally shipped with the game and leaked, so it's unbelievably easy to mod

The lack of love for Shaman King in modern Jump games always bothered me.
Shaman King has since been excised from Shonen Jump due to differences between the author and Jump. The author took his manga and moved to a new publisher.
My issue with jump force is that it's a tag team fighter but the team share the same health bar seriously why even make them teams at all it would make more sense to just have them be solo fighters instead

Honestly, I kinda like J-Stars, especially since it has one of my favorite series like Medaka Box. That's the closest to MB-game I'll ever get to touch. All in all, I'll take J-Stars over Jump Force any day.

Wait, Battlestadium DON was japan exclusive? I remember playing it at my friends house (I am from Germany). Was the sequel released outside japan or some demo? Because I definately played a legit version of it (it may have been in japanese though and we only guessed the menues).

Seeing Kenshiro, Raoh, JoJo, Pegasus Seiya and Momotaro Tsurugi in J Stars was awesome.
As good as the cinematography is, Jump Force's specials have little to no impact and feel limp a lot of the time, unless you actually ko the guy you're fighting against

I was bummed that Medaka wasn't in Jump Force, she was my favorite in J-Stars Victory Vs.
Over rendering and desperately making graphics as realistic as possible has made modern games and movies feel homogenized and sterile.

Are there any actually good anime crossover games other than Super Robot Wars series?
Jump Ultimate Stars. I feel Bash was bashing it unfairly-he had to deal with playing the game on an emulator, which would inevitably ruin the experience. Then again, I played with an actual ds with my brothers; so my nostalgia could be getting in the way.
Regardless, the game has much more depth than Bash was willing to let on-or had the opportunity to experience

Jump Super Stars/Jump Ultimate Stars are legitimately good games. Like, really good.
There's Super Heroine Chronicle, which is basically just Super Robot Wars with magical girls instead of mechs.
There's Miracle Girls Festival, which is a Project Diva style game (same engine even) featuring characters from Yuru Yuri, Kiniro Mosaic, Is the Order a Rabbit, Engaged to the Unidentified and tons of other slice of life/moe shows.
Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax is a great fighting game with characters from Sword Art Online, A Certain Magical Index, Oreimo, Toradora, Durarara, Boogiepop, Kino's Journey, Spice and Wolf, Shakugan no Shana, the list really does go on for quite a while.
Nitroplus Blasterz is also a decent fighting game with tons of anime crossovers. Fate Stay Night, Super Sonico, Senran Kagura, Saya no Uta, Psycho-Pass and tons of other series that I don't recognize.
Aquapazza. Another fighter in the vain of Dengeki Bunko and Nitroplus Blasterz. Has characters from Urawarerumono, Comic Party, Tears to Tiara and To Heart. Pretty niche properties but regardless of whether you recognize the characters, the game is good.
And Tatsunoko vs Capcom, which is a forgotten Versus Capcom game. Definitely a great fighting game, it has characters from Gatchaman, Yatterman, Casshan, and Karas fighting characters from Street Fighter, Mega Man, Darkstalkers, etc.
I'm like 100% sure there's more than this, but these are all that I've personally played and can vouch for.
Props for using the J-Stars ost, that soundtrack actually fucking slaps

I think he was just saying that characters being goofy when they look like photo-realisitc edits is bad. not the interactions themselves.
Shueisha sold Shaman King to Kodansha, so it's not a part of Shonen Jump anymore.
I think the reason of the artstyle for J-Stars and Jump Force with that plastic look is because if they use cell-shading they have to respect the way every characters is shaded by each mangaka and the same if they use their anime counterpart. Just to give a sample, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm cell-shading, which is based on how the anime is shaded, looks completely different to the one developers used wtih Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Eyes of Heaven and another sample is with J-Stars 2D sprites and how different look Kenshiro and Raoh to the other characters,
I'd love it if they made a fighterz type game with Shonen jump characters.
