    Love the video!!!
And I guess that, since hiatus affect the popularity of a manga, Ruri Dragon will be one of the biggests "What Ifs" of Jump.
In September 2022, Shueisha Books site listed Ruri Dragon with the "Jump+" label. Today, they came back to Shonen Jump, but who knows...
Wish for the best for Masaoki, even that it means no more Ruri.
And I haven't read about the synopsis from last year winner from GFC and DAMN, I LOVE IT!
Hope for serialization soon! Out of the curse, of course hahaha

Thank you so much, Im glad you like the video! I love Ruri so much so it was so sad to hear that Masaoki fell ill, I'd love to see it back one day if they manage to feel well enough to do it!
Koi no Youbi no Sezaki-san sounds really fun an interesting, I was so excited to talk about after reading the Synopsis so I hope it becomes a series!

It’s cool to see other people just as deeply invested as I am in Jump and its history. I actually did all of the same research you did for this video about a year ago.😁 You found a couple things I hadn’t; the basketball manga in 2007 and the original name of the 2005 baseball one-shot.
On the other hand, I delved deeper into those “skipped” years. In 2006, three one-shots were released one after another with SKET Dance being the series that was serialized. In 2013, four one-shots were released in a row with Hinomaru Sumo coming out on top. In 2019, no one-shots were released in a row like that, but we did get a number of one-shots that became full series: the one-shots for Our Blood Oath, Bone Collection, and Undead Unluck. We also had ones from the authors of Candy Flurry and Tokyo Demon Bride Story; though, those one-shots did not get serialized.
I also figured out if the order in which the one-shots are released matters at all.
    Released 1st- Won 7 times
    2nd- 4 times
    3rd- 3 times
    4th- 1 time
    5th- 3 times
    6th/7th- 0 times
All pretty interesting stuff. I’m excited to see what sort of series comes out of this one-shot. It wasn’t my pick of the bunch, but I can see why it won. I would’ve picked that music series that had really impactful panels or the vampire one that had a style similar to Yu-Gi-Oh.
Overall, it was a great video. I’m excited to see you grow more and more with every new release. Well-done.😊

I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
I'm aware of the initiative in 2006 with the oneshots but wanted to keep the video shorter even though Sket Dance is a pretty important one. Oneshots in general are super interesting in Jump and usually theres something going on with them every year, I'd love to talk about them more but maybe save them for other videos so I don't have one massive one haha!
The order is really interesting since in Bakuman they mention that they place the manga in the order they think will be most successful, I guess the outlier here being 5th place has one quite a few times!
This batch of oneshots seemed pretty promising, Id love to check how many are translated, throughout the history of the GFC because I know some are. Thank you for your comment!

@@TrentinArt Good to know that you did know about the 2006 thing. :)
A video on one-shots sounds awesome! If you can find some interesting theory and analysis from all of it, even if just over a half-decade or so, I’d watch in a heartbeat. I’m always excited to hear new theories on how we think the magazine works. Like, do they push more action series in a given year? More gag series? What kind of artists are they pushing out? How does a shift in Editor-in-Chief affect what one-shots they publish? Does it affect it at all? So many cool routes to go down and explore.😁
Bakuman really is the best, isn’t it?😊
I’d be pretty interested in seeing that too- at least with the more interesting-looking ones.

As much as these unknown mangakas have some great potential for their work to be published in WSJ, I'm kinda shocked how many of their one-shots have never been officially published in English on the Shonen Jump App. So they could have gotten more attention from American readers and manga fans.

    • @ProjektTaku
      @ProjektTaku 6 місяців тому +2

A curious difference is how they're published. Comics were originally anthologies with like 7 stories per issue, similar to magazines like Shonen Jump, however they kept diluting the stories down to just one, and stories would get monthly issues to themselves. Although there have been attempts to revive the anthology format like with Action Comics.

@TrentinArt I see 👀 a story like Our Blood needs time to develop, but unfortunately, in the manga industry, mangakas aren't given much time. You have to come out gun blazing .. I believe had Kakazu-sensei had been given enough time, and readers ls were patient a bit more. Our blood oath could have been the next big vampire story.. It had vampire royalty, a human and Vampire.. aiming for peace, and that cute animal shin gave to ko. It's unfortunate but I still hope we'll get the next big Vampire story..It's about time we got it
