  • Today I'm showing you my favorite JHS Pedals and how I use them to achieve the sounds I want. Along with Nick and Zach, we create four different styles of music with these pedals and I explain my approach when I use them to create all the tones that fit each genre. In the comments let me know where you first heard of us, what your favorite JHS Pedals are, which ones you own, and how you use them!

I was not a fan of JHS, I liked pedals that had a battery option. One day I saw the Double Barrel for $100 at a pawnshop, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to buy it and try it out cause I could resale for a little more than I paid. Well took it home and I liked it, it had an issue with the LEDs and I emailed you guys and you guys were ace. Helped me get this bad boy working and I couldn’t have asked for quick and kind service. Since then I’ve purchased a few more of your pedals and I was convinced enough to have a dedicated pedalboard for pedals that only run on power supply.thanks

I hang my head in shame as I admit that I have no JHS pedals. That's not from a lack of desire. Oh, no! In fact, I am always on the lookout for them on the secondhand market (the only way that I can afford effects), but that is a problem because (a) nobody sells them because they love them, and (b) they go for prices above my range when they do show up. There are a bajillion that I love, though...Morning Glory, Kodiak, Unicorn, Panther Cub...you make beautiful sounding things. Keep it up!

Why do I watch you? 1.) you are the most unbiased reviewer of Pedals...even though you own, design and manufacture Pedals - you are very comfortable in your Skin - appear with great Authenticity and you are an accomplished player which I am not - I adopted watching you since the passing of my best friend, past lead guitar player of a band I was in and Jeff J. and I have shared chasing tone for the last 11+ years after I quit our band (Aug 2008 -due to the Bass players out of control ego)
Jeff J. passed on Mar. 3rd 2019 after battling cancer and playing literally up to the month before he passed so since his passing and for the last two+ months I have stayed connected to chasing tone with you and with Uncle Doug...learning more about tone, electronics and actually building a few of my own pedals and repairing a few...(LPB1 - Electro-Harmonix 1970 original) I have a relative that designs famous amps...and I personally have loved the smell of burning Soldier... since I watched my older brother build his first Heathkit in the 1960's - HONESTLY - I do not own any of your pedals....you just demo'"ed one or two that I would own but out of my budget at this time being disabled and on a fixed income...
I play mostly rhythm guitar since I was 13 - and now at 63 and with Jeff's passing I want to aspire to get to his level of Lead Playing...he was not only a dear brother in Tone Chasing...but he was one of the best two finger lead players I have ever seen...his ability to tweak a Knob on a Marshall, Fender or Mesa amp meant he needed very little pedals...one or two in his chain...always a wah and a couple pedals...
A few he stopped using - he gifted me them and I will always cherish along with an ABY pedal he gave me so I can run a Fender and another amp to add that extra tone a fender doesn't produce, a guitar strap and one of his guitar stands that he broke and I repaired...
He remains in my heart till we meet again...and thanks again for all your videos...you have comforted that void that Jeff J.'s passing left...He remains in my life through countless Memories of gigs gone by...past phone conversations about Chasing Tone...and endless hours of playing and shopping for tone...again for all you do now and in the future puts a smile on my face as it brings back a memory of my dear friend - sincerely Brian K. UCN Biz Group / Tone Chaser / past band member of Rule 62 "Don't take yourself to damn seriously...' that was our tag in the band...till the bass player lost sight of his ego. ! Stay Humble and play loud!

The first JHS pedal I owned was the Angry Charlie V3. The instant I plugged it in and played, I was blown away. I just couldn't stop playing it because I was in disbelief at how good it sounded. The other JHS pedal I own is the Charlie Brown V4. I use it as my main overdrive tone in effects loop of my Bugera V22 Infinium (which has mild breakup). I have the pedal set up with the gain is pretty much maxed to achieve a JMP type tone rather than the JTM tone that the pedal was intended to create. I was skeptical of JHS pedals at first because of the cost, but the quality of the product backs up the purchase. I will definitely be buying more JHS pedals in the future.

I first heard about JHS via a non-music related websearch for the Pink Panther. "My, that's an expensive pedal," I thought. I liked its looks, but I already had quite a few delays, so I didn't feel the true need for it. Still, it caught my eye, so I started doing a little research and discovered youtube reviews of it and other JHS pedals. My first JHS product was an Electro-Harmonix Soul Food with the Meat & 3 mod. That opened my eyes! Flash forward two years and I now have a Pulp 'N Peel, Muffuletta, Kilt V2 w/Red Remote, @+, Calhoun V2 and a Colour Box. Lots of toys to manipulate drive and tone! I guess if I were to get another JHS pedal it would be the Emperor (and then perhaps a Kodiak!)

Rewatching this one again. I think the JHS pedal videos are the best because we learn about the old or existing pedals that inspire you (history of rock, electronics, etc). Then we get Yer thought process as a player , G.A.S.er , and Electronician. And we get to explore the actual JHS pedal. Definitely JHS pedal vids have the widest range of material. Plus: great material (music) as per usual. Would love to here some Brighten the Corners era lyrics on Josh's great instrumental jams.

Just bought my first JHS pedal, Tidewater, at Andertons on holiday two weeks ago, supporting my favorite UA-cam channels. Love it. I’ve played it with a TS and lots of reverb and it sounds great. Also with a Phase 90. Have a bid in for Muffaletta so we’ll see what happens this weekend. Maybe an Angry Charlie and a Cub too. Haven’t bought a pedal in 15 years but after breaking my foot 12 weeks ago I’ve bought 8 after binge watching UA-cam.

Josh, I avoided your pedals for years, as I got you mixed up with another JHS, John Hornby Skewes, which is a low budget guitar brand from the UK.
My muffuletta is a constant on my pedal board. The crayon or angry driver may be my next JHS pedal

Brighten The Corners served as my introduction to Pavement, solely because when a friend recommended I give the band a listen, that was the only album of theirs that they had at the library. Seeing as how these days I still worship at the altar of Malkmus and have now collected their entire recorded output (as well as Steve's and Spiral's solo work), I'd say it made a good first impression.

I only have older Boss JHS modified pedals but they are the best! a DD3, GE-7, two CS-3's and the best of all the JHS (mod/fix) for the TR-2. I use all of them all the time. I want some of your new pedals but my wife can never find out! Shush!

I don't really remember where I heard about JHS pedals first, but once I found out that you're literally two and a half hours from me, I figured I probably needed to support a, "local," pedal maker. I followed your stuff for about 2 years before you released the Steak and Eggs with Keeley. That got announced and I knew I needed it. I sold off every pedal I had at the time, other than my DD-7, Crybaby, Ernie Ball Volume pedal, and Fender PT100, (I had 5 others on my board at the time and an RC-50) to get the Steak and Eggs. Since then I've added a Prestige as an always on and a Muffuletta for some some fuzz, (all the fuzz!) None of your other pedals have made it onto the board yet, but they are the ones I use to add the most flavor. May 17th will be my 3rd anniversary as a JHS owner/player, and I couldn't be happier with them

Also, Brighten The Corners is great. I never knew Pavement until I found a 64 disc CD Wallet laying on the Street in the middle of the road in Memphis one day while I was on tour, playing at a place that was called The Onion or something like that. Anyway, the CD book had all of Pavement's albums in it and I became obsessed with Pavement for many years to come. I love you for reminding me of that. I also picked up a Silvertone 1483 115 24 Watt amp and cabinet from Craigslist. The 1483 was the "Bass Amp" version of the 1484 and it's cool, with a one speaker @ 15" orientation. Mine is wrapped in leather, so the head doesnt fit into the cabinet for transport like it's sposed to, but I might unwrap it someday. There is a term for this 1970s practice, but I can't think if it right now. The person who sold it to me was an old friend I hadn't seen in 15 years, and it sounds amazing. And it was amazing to see my old friend.

Angry Charlie was the first pedal that blew my mind. Give it some love on an episode. You need a singer. The Crayon is definitely on my list of next buys based on this video. You remind me I of my friend Eric who passed away. So in a weird way it is comforting. He was an architect and awesome bass player. Thanks.

Your love of pedals is the center of it all, and your choice in showcasing other great pedals is one of the main reasons I have no issue whatsoever paying hard earned money for the ones you make! My first and favorite JHS pedal is a surf green full size original panther delay. I bought it off ebay for $250 over 5 years ago. I'll never get rid of it. I used to pair it with a DD7 (switch between digital and mod setting). The panther would be set to dotted eighth and the DD7 to quarter notes. I'd tap and send the rhythm on the panther. What was really cool was I pulled the mix know off and replaced it with a kick disk. I could dial in just the right amount of delay depending on the song.
