The Worst JHS Pedals Ever Made

- This week's episode is a little different. In fact, it’s pretty weird. There are those that could call this episode an over-extended, shameless plug for JHS gear, and others who would argue that it’s too drenched in self-loathing and sadness to be anything other than depressing. Honestly, I’m not sure who's right.

That’s what is so clever about this video.
he's not - he's saying "I like these but they aren't selling well so here's a video to advertise them"

I’ve been debating on getting it this week too.

@@jsiriuspena well I guess we can’t now
Literally waiting on my order from Sweetwater right now
yea, with a little hindsight and an intellectual property agreement JHS missed out on the advertising and branding of the Pink Panther. That would have been way cool.
The Crayon is the only pedal that hasn't come off my board in 5 years. The absolute secret weapon when you're losing a crowd and need to play an 8-bit Nintendo solo.
When josh put his head down and hysterically screamed "IT'S TOTALLY FINE" into his arm I felt that on a spiritual level
Also, I LOVE that a lot of your designs are clean white minimalist fare. No one else is doing that and it just looks so nice. I wanna get a LIMG amp for my guitarist.
I'm surprised more people aren't going for the Spring Tank. That effects loop opens up all kinds of fun possibilities.

Josh, thanks for this public service you’ve done. I was saving up for a Cheeseball, but I don’t want to hurt you by buying it. I’ll just have to spend that money on regular cheese instead.
I'm with you, Matt. I really wanted a Cheeseball.. but then Wampler comes along with Ratsbane...and it got me thinking... a pet rat would be cool.. and they eat cheese.. so I went to the pet store and the grocery store... and my guitar tone will just have to suffer for now. Sorry, Josh.
I bought a Cheeseball and really liked it. The 3 and 2nd mode are killer. I let friends borrow it and they all really liked it too. So... 🤷🏻
Cheeseball is really nice on guitar, but you should hear it on bass. Absolutely stunning.
Tbf, you can get a lot of good quality artisan cheese for that kind money.
If you lowered the price of the "Loud Is More Good" amp from the current $2600 at Sweetwater, it certainly wouldn't sell any better. Please don't do it.
Lol
Haha! I thought this...exactly!
You could do a stereo setup with 2 65 twin fender reverbs for that price.
The amp was the only thing that makes sense and totally belongs on the list. Not hard to see why it doesn't sell.
Hahaha... I was in the electric guitar room at Sweetwater today, waiting for a guitar to arrive from the warehouse, when I found myself in front of a "Loud Is More Good" amp, with the JHS logo prominently displayed. When I looked at the price, I *couldn't believe* my eyes. "Holy shit!", I thought to myself. I had NO IDEA that that amp was so expensive! Must be REALLY GOOD! :-)
@@GuitarGodgt Yeah I can appreciate the hand wiring and all that jazz but like you said, you can own two fantastic amps for that price, far more versatile.
What's super funny about this is that he's pretending it's a joke, 'I'm hurt that these pedals don't sell (but I'm really not, this is a fun video).' But you can tell that he actually IS a little hurt that some of these don't sell better.
That pink panther delay is exactly what I look for in a delay. That rhythmic bouncing is awsome.
If only JHS could make pedals as perfect as Nick's snare tone.
Agreed. Although he’s using the color box as a mic pre, so technically they have made a pedal as good as his snare tone 😂.
and call it lars
I was literally thinking this throughout the whole video. 😂
I've always wanted my guitar to sound like a snare
Amen, that snare sounds fantastic.
I think these pedals haven’t sold due Anderton’s website stating ‘JHS is one of the original boutique Brnads’.
I’m not sure anyone wants a Brnad.
I once got a brnad and it took 2 surgeries and 6 creams to get rid of it.

One of my absolute favorite channels. It’s unique, and I just love the style of the videos. You’ve got so many great people working behind the scenes to make the vision come to light. Take you guys! 🎸
The Spring Tank is truly genius with the FX loop built in the circuit for use of other effects in conjunction with the reverb only.
“Don’t buy this big cheese”
Don’t tell me what to do.
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, tells me not to buy cheese.
Damn it actually sounded so good it made me hungry.
Not the Crayon! The Crayon is MAGNIFICENT. I love it so much. You can run the EHX Crayon into it for dual Crayon madness, too.
yeah, I was feeling bad 'cuz I just got a Hot Wax which includes the Crayon (thanks Rhett...) till I realized it was the wrong crayon! Now I feel better. Love the pedal too...
When I bought my Colour Box, the plan was to keep it off the board and use it for production only. Bass DI, mic pre, EQ. But I decided "hey why not throw it in front of my amps as a test". Needless to say it's now on my board. I usually run the eq flat, do it's basically a crayon at that point. Immediately became my favorite and most versatile drive pedal. If you don't have a crayon or colour box, get one you will not regret it.
Loving what you’re doing there with the crayon on crayon action!! Keep it up 👍
I had a Twin Twelve. It was (is) awesome. I sold it, and I’m filled with regret.
So buy another. Problem solved
Well, 100% of your units of the pedal sold. That's better track record than Josh.
@@DickEnchilada it says "BUT DON'T BUY IT" then he says "whatever it is don't buy it" so we must obey - don't wanna upset fragile Josh, ha.
I made clones of the Superbolt and the Twin Twelve..the Superbolt seems more gainy but the Twin Twelve is cleaner..I love both!!!
The Twin Twelve is definitely a pedal I'd use, and I'm not a pedal user.
I have a Crayon and I absolutely love it. It’s a Colour Box without the bells and whistles. It nails the sound I was after. Highly recommended.

I bought my first ever JHS pedal - a unicorn v2 - and when I went to read the manual I heard it all in your voice. It's on a board with a Bonamassa fuzz, vintage super fuzz, cry baby, dearmond volume, and a chasebliss mood. Thanks for making great pedal content!
I love, LOVE the JHS Crayon! Back when I thought I really wanted a Colourbox, but couldn’t afford, I got (what I thought was settling on at the time) the Crayon, and I totally fell in love with that pedal. It’s absolutely remained a staple on my pedal board. I did end up finally getting a Colourbox V2, but that’s more for studio use while the Crayon’s gonna keep remaining on my pedal board... I get the best volume swells with it!

The Colour box V2, Panther Cub, Morning Glory, VCR , and the Superbolt are a huge part of my band’s sound. Keep up the great work Josh!
You definitely need a Bat-Sim to round out the mix… Can’t beat that vintage radio shack power flow…
I'm mean the pedals are great and all ... but as a Dave Grohl like guitar player I'm so jealous at that drum kit sound you get on your demos. That kit sounds amazing.
It’s probably going through 2 Colour Boxes, with some compression. Yum.

Josh: "when people aren't buying stuff it means it's really bad"
Me: immediately searches for all the "really bad" pedals to buy
Great video concept, Josh. Very entertaining! Love what you do for the industry.
What’s really cool about these videos is that Mr. Josh is a great teacher. Even when he talks about pedals I’m not interested in buying at the time, I always learn something really cool about pedals, signals and effects. This happens when a person knows so much on a topic that they can’t help but impart insight on the topic they are speaking about. Fascinating stuff! Thank you for this Chanel!
The Twin Twelve is truly a hidden gem.
Man, it sure does..
So glad I got to find one for 110$ mint last month... before the prices go booom
When the drive is cranked, it becomes a nondescript distortion. It shines at low to med gain dirty settings, but is uninspiring on the clean setting, and the gain knob does nothing. It's just too tight when it's cranked. Part of the charm of the Silvertone is how beautifully crappy it sounds dimes.
I completely agree. Great pedal. I just saw it on Raffael Saddique’s pedalboard build on the Vertex channel and he’s one of the most prolific producer/writer/players and has written and produced a lot of legends. He had it on his board so it can’t be bad. I almost bought it several times because the demos sound great.
It's the only JHS pedal I own.
Man I just gotta say I was really enjoying my Spring Tank pedal but after seeing this video, I'm definitely rethinking my reverb options. You've opened my eyes to what a truly bad pedal it is, thank you Josh.
I doesn't drip. The man said it himself.
My unlucky Lucky Cat resets its clock speed every time it's powered up. So in other words you lose your settings. Josh you gotta fix that maybe?
I love how you don't take yourself too seriously. It makes it really entertaining and enjoyable to watch.
Josh: How can I advertise our pedals without compromising my hallmark curated humility.
Nick: Lets make a video talking shit about the ones we love the most!
Josh: how can I make an obviously dishonest attempt to sell pedals that haven't been selling?
A: keep telling the audience the opposite of what you're actually doing...
Last year they put out a video called “my favorite JHS pedals.” And a lot of these overlap 😂 I wish I could just keep Josh employed in my house to design me the best music gear just for me all the time 💞
You people are all amazing. How did you learn to not only expose the true (and sinister) motives of JHS Josh and his evil cabal- but also sneak in words like 'curated' (I would used stupid word like 'affected". Or subhhbmmm
Mm...I'm ashamedful
@@markfarnsworth3340 everyone has their price or if your Jeffrey dahmer..thier back turned to you for a second , long enough to.....
Josh, all of those pedals have one thing in common: They're too small to be cool. You need to put them in enclosures the size of Shaq's shoe boxes, and then they'll sell to all the hipsters.
I hate that you're right. Get out of my brain.
don't forget to add blinky lights and stuff
The bigger the pedal, the bigger the tonez. Everyone knows that...
Yeah exactly, and put more knobs on them that don't actually do anything but have names like "scratch" and "noodles".
Leave my scratch and noodles alone bucko
The Alpine Reverb also had an effects loop in the reverb trails. It's sonically beautiful!!!
I actually love that amp and have considered buying one a number of times but it's just So. Damned. Expensive.
For $2600 you could probably buy all stocks in Akai or something these days honestly, or two fantastic Fender amps at least. I loved it when I tried it, but $2600 is ridiculous.

JHS: Makes the Muffletta, a pedal that has 6 different fuzz pedals in one for ~200$
Also JHS: "Why aren't people buying the cheese ball???"
Exactly
???? the cheeseball and muffletta are VERY different pedals. im about to make my first big (>$150) pedal purchase and its gonna be the cheeseball. its fine if you dont get what makes the big cheese sound so interesting but comparing the sound to a muff is laughable
I like it that your guitarplaying isn't a total shredfest every time.
Or flabby djent crap like 90% of metal guitar channels.

You are extremely funny. Your videos are just a treat to watch. I always learn something, and get lots of laughs along the way. Thank you.
Impressed how this show is getting better over time, just awesome!!
Me: Saving up for a twin twelve.
JHS: Post this video
Me: *Crying*
But a twin twelve. I've owned like 50+ pedals over the past two years, its the only pedal I've never even thought of getting rid off. It sounds so fucking good I swear
I had the pedal and an actual Silvertone amp and the pedal didn't come anywhere close to the amp tones. The pedal has it's own sound, which is awesome that it works for you but for me i was hoping for it to sound more like an actual Silvertone amp, which it did not.
THE TWIN TWELVE PEDAL SAVED MY LIFE. (Well....not really, but it makes me happy,) and it's literally always 'ON' on the clean setting, even when I'm not playing..and it's plugged into an actual twin twelve amplifier which I play through (although I don't have the correct original cabinet because I live in Australia and someone must have bought it out here, but left the nest/cabinet behind due to its bigness and something we call 'The Tyranny of Distance')' with the JHS Tw12 pedal added the head iwent from awesome to , not awesome+awesome as you may think; but went to awesome². I was concerned at first that I may create some awesome phase cancellation or comb filtering ,or that it would be like when John Malkovich climbed through the existential 'wormhole' into being able to experience Being John Malkovich (director Spike Jonze 1999) and things get a little ......odd.
But no, Awesome squared.
You may take it from my cold dead hand.
Or sell me a 1484 cabinet!
With the original black Jensen c12qs!
I am going to buy a backup Twin12 pedal now.
I play a Kay Twin Thin guitar through it too sometimes
I wonder if I could custom order a Twin Thin 12 string?
Wait, where are you going?
I was about to let you speak.

The Lucky Cat delay is the best delay in front of the Amp. The Darken knob is the secret weapon on this pedal.
I love this channel, too! On a side note, the roasted maple neck on your Strat is cooler than heck.
This channel has rapidly become my favorite over the past few days, regardless of subject matter. I'm gunna buy all these, eventually, I'm sorry. I'll actively be disobeying all the advice Josh is giving us here, but I can't help it. I've literally cancelled my Quad Cortex order to start rebuilding my entire board from Josh's recommendations across this channel (and ignoring recommendations on this episode). Best tone channel on the planet.
I don't know another channel that could do something like this and it work. It is a testament to how well you promote everyone else and how great you are for the community. Very fun video. I'm (not) sold
I almost wanted a lucky cat and a spring tank. Thanks for helping me avoid GAS. I love you guys.
I tested the Lucky Cat today and I must say it is THE BEST DELAY PEDAL I’VE EVER HEARD! Seriously, magic tone all over, it is extremely well thought and designed. The ratio knob is not stepped (a surprise) and is so easy to user overall because it really sounds great at any setting and it’s very easy to set up to what you need just by listening to it. The only thing that reaaally fucks me up is the continuous eternal tap tempo light, which is great in a way, but also kind of drives you mad. But still, you’re a genius, keep making pedals!!!
If I could only have one delay on my board it would probably be (and has been in the past) the Lucky Cat (in Pink!). Great tap tempo delay that sounds amazing in a great form factor
I like that he couldn't keep a straight face at the end of the melt down... love it
I know it's been said, but it bears repeating: the intro song is a banger.
Love this damn channel. Also, the louder amp seems amazing.
The 'Twin Twelve' is possibly my favourite pedal I own! I used it on my song "Ideology". It's just perfect!! The breakup is undeniable. Thanks for creating it, man!
To be fair about the edge having a “Crayon” pedal in his rig, he also has at least 1 of each of the pedals behind you in his rig 😇
This was genius. And now, just to piss you off, I'm probably going to buy one. BTW, the Twin Twelve sounds amazing.
I’ve sold one copy of my first album from 2010. I have 3 albums. This video means a lot to me.
I always turn in waiting to see a spotlight on JHS pedals, glad to get one today! Fun video. Thanks!
This episode is GOLD!
This episode could be called, "the list of pedals Zach Robertson wants to buy, but just doesn't have the money." Even though I do want the Color Box over the Crayon. Also, make the Loud Is More Good V2 with an FX loop and red tolex, and I'd still be to broke to buy it
I think the reason people don't buy it is because it's so overpriced for what it is. I love the JHS stuff but a clean fenderish amp that costs $2600 is a bit steep considering you can get most fender amps for half that and they come with fx loops and reverb and sometimes trem.
Been following your channel for a few months, happy to say bought my first jhs pedal today because of this channel.
I'd buy the Pink Cat just for the fact that it is pink. And over that, the delay effect is really nice.
I looooove the twin twelve and swear by it, I never knew it didn't sell well..
I use the Spring Tank with my Moog Keyboard - I use boost and delay on the effects loop - only on tank two - activate tank two and you are launched into the reverb cosmos
Josh, this was the best & funniest video yet! Your pedals are awesome & so are you brother! I love my Bonsai & Series 3 fuzz pedals.
Super glad you’re doing this video due to the fact that I’ve been shopping through your pedals trying to decide on the one i want to get. Now im getting two i know that for sure. The cheese one for sure and either the morning glory or that red @ pedal. I wish you had showed those two on here.
Man that cheeseball with delay was sick
I think josh should own this passive aggressive telemarketer character I love it
Now I want 'em all 🤣 I love this channel Man, I'm learning so much, thanks Josh!
I love my spring tank reverb!!! It's literally the perfect reverb pedal and it has such a good boost in it as well! Idk how you didn't mention that lol.
I'm one of the two people who were thinking of buying the Cheese Ball, thanks for convincing me not too
The Lucky Cat is awesome. I have one and I trade pedals all the time and the Lucky Cat is a permanent fixture in my pedal lineup. Josh; you’re awesome

I love the Lucky Cat so much. Such a gorgeous pedal aesthetically and sonically. Plus tap tempo.
I just loved those trem-arm moments withe the cat-thingy and the cheesey thing. I must learn to do that!
Honestly, I think part of the disconnect is that pedal builders often name their inventions with allusions to other pedals or companies, and a lot of the public doesn't know that. With the Cheeseball, if I didn't know about Lovetone, I would definitely have assumed it was supposed to be an ’80s-style, hair metal, Marshall-and-rackmount rig distortion.
You make me laugh in a good way during all the video ! Those pedals are sounding great, but I must say i'm guilty of judging the crayon pedal by his name however it got a great sound !
