I love that 1. it's got 4 pickups, and 2. there's a lipstick on there. I had a Strat that I modified with a single-sized humbucker in the bridge (I think it was an SD Hot Rails pickup), a cheap Guitar Fetish lipstick pickup in the middle, and a vintage-style single coil in the neck. It had a crazy variety of sounds, and the lipstick was always one of my favorites to play around with, it just had a great sound to it. Especially in the middle, which I would have otherwise almost never used because it wasn't the bridge or the neck. With the lipstick in there, it totally changed the sound and made me love it!
The music in these videos is perfect proof that you don't need to be the greatest technical guitarist to make interesting and fun music. All you really need is good rhythm.
“Good rhythm” is sorely under-emphasized in technical guitar studies. The ability to play sixteenth notes rapid-fire with sixteenth rests is technically more demanding than playing sloppy eighth notes with residual noise. If you’re a rhythm player, this is both gospel and second nature.
Hey stoners, quick question... how did butterflies evolve into a larval insect(caterpillar) that builds a velco pad to stick its butt to, grow an egg around itself, digest everything that isn’t a butterfly and rebuild itself AS a butterfly with a “gradual change”model of evolution and natural selection?
I love that you do a band context playing normal music similar to what most folk would actually play in bands instead of just widdling on on your own playing what we might get to play in like 3 solos in a set of 20. Appreciated.
The best cover record is Rush "Feedback". They released it just so they would have something new to play on their 30th Anniversary tour. It was basically a collection of all their favorite songs to play when they were playing High School dances.
Your videos are always informative and funny. I recently found out that you are from north Alabama. Many of my friends go to the RAMP, and I am a Children’s Pastor and guitarist at our church Hope Alive in Hamilton. I have been enjoying your videos but it was cool to know someone locally has been so successful. I am working on my second self produced album, and am going to purchase your Pulp N Peel V4 when I get a chance, to use on the album. I already liked the way it sounded, and the dirt switch, but now that I know you are from here and have a church background, I’m going to buy even more of your products in the future.
I like that you added the drummer and bassist to play together with you so that we can hear the pedals in a 'real world' situation. Often times I have heard pedals sound amazing on its own only to be buried once the drummer and bassist start playing.
Hey Josh it’s Tour of Flanders week (2023) randomly watching this video and spotted your t-shirt - love your work sir, hope you’ll be tuning in it’s always an epic race…
Hi, I'm in the UK and in the late 70's I had a JHS "fuzz" - the JHS stood for John Hornby Skewes and they are still going now. I've always found it odd that your company is also called JHS (obviously your name) but has there been any confusion/conflict with it? I remember the pedal sounded just like the Park - more overdrive than fuzz (and it was blue too..) :-)
It should be noted that Park made more than just a tone bender clone; they made some very well-regarded small-box amp heads that were a hot item on the vintage market, last I checked.
Geez, Josh just slam dunked on every other utube content maker with this one. From start to finish, this is how it's done! Also...best jazzmaster-impression build ever. Da Coolest! 😎🎸

hey I have one and love it but be warned, the preamp is always on meaning the input volume and bass/treble controls will always affect the signal. These are all characteristics of the original tape echo that they were modeling and they can be really useful but they can also be problematic if they dont play well with the pedals/amp/guitar around it so be advised. Fantastic episode , I saw an awesome band playing with a great sound . You've clearly got some Sonic Youth influences in your playing Josh. Small remark : the Boss RE-20 was launched in the late summer of 2007 not 1997 as you mentioned (I know you know and it was just a slip of the tongue. ). I immediately ordered one in oct 2007 after reading about it in Sound on Sound mag. It is still on my board, love the randomness it has . Combined with some modulated reverb and my VOX v848 Clyde McCoy wah (another great clone from around 2004 - with the red Italian made Fasel inductor ) it gives me that vintage sound I love so much. Keep up the good work , bye bye and Best Regards .

Hey Josh, great video. I’ve got a funny story that involves my Haunting Mids shirt. Last week on Friday, after all flights to Houston were canceled on Thursday due to a tropical storm, I was finally heading home from San Francisco. I wasn’t in a great mood having to wait an extra day to leave, and being in the window seat of the last row on the plane wasn’t helping my mood either. I noticed the guy in the seat next to me was wearing an Anderton’s shirt, but didn’t strike up conversation. Long story short, more rain over Houston right before we were scheduled to land sent us to an airport in Lousiana to sit on the runway for a couple of hours. My neighbor and I finally spoke and acknowledged each other’s shirts. I don’t recall his name, but we both acknowledged our love for your videos, talked gear, and he showed me pics of a guitar and bass he built. I wouldn’t have had that interaction if not for your UA-cam channel, and that was the nicest part of my long trek home. Keep rocking and kicking out the great vids and products (including shirts).
That one and Guns n' Roses equalient, The Spaghetti Incident really opened my eyes (and ears) to a ton of cool old stuff that I probably would have missed out completely on otherwise.
It always makes me happy when you have the band demos-great stuff! Btw, you mentioned secret overdrive and delay pedals, but it sure sounded like there was some kind of trem on the “Nod to Surf” tune. Was I hearing things?

Ehh I prefer commander cody, famous for wearing an orange armband in lego star wars.

I’d also rank him right up there with MOSFET and JFET.

hey I have one and love it but be warned, the preamp is always on meaning the input volume and bass/treble controls will always affect the signal. Unity gain(not clipping) is about 11o'clock on the input volume knob, and there is a little bit of white noise in the preamp that is always on. These are all characteristics of the original tape echo that they were modeling and they can be really useful but they can also be problematic if they dont play well with the pedals/amp/guitar around it so be advised. If you want to avoid the constant affect on your tone you'd have to use a switching device of some sort.
