- This is 5 months update. The fish are called Sparkling or Pygmy gourami.
How to hatch brine shrimp: It’s very straight forward. I used lukewarm tap water. No water conditioner. Cheap sea salt - same as aquarium salt. The brine shrimp lasted around 3~4 days in the plastic bottle after they hatched. The temperature in the tank was around 27°C or 81°F. I did stir the floating eggs a few times after setting it up.
How to culture infusoria: I used water from this planted tank. I siphoned water around the plants and around the gravel to catch some infusoria. I boiled the fresh spinach for around 10 minutes until the leaves were completely soft. I did this so that the bacteria would break it down much easier and quicker. You can use other veggies like lettuce or cabbage. I also added an algae wafer. But it seemed like it’s not completely necessary. Just after 24 hours of setting this up, the water had become cloudy white. That meant the bacteria bloom had occurred. Infusoria eats bacteria. This thing later did stink, though. It took around 6 days for the enough infusoria to colonize for me to use it.
About the baby pygmy gouramis:
In hindsight, I should’ve moved the babies to their own tank in the beginning.
But I didn’t want the pair to keep breeding.
In hindsight, I should’ve removed the parents earlier.
In hindsight, I should’ve made infusoria first.
In hindsight, I should’ve known an Amano might get to the fry, allegedly.
I think some were eaten by the parents, then lack of food, then the amano, all contributed to the dwindling numbers. I didn’t know there were less of them. I always thought some were hiding in the thick foliage.
The ones that survived are all different in size. Several are big and healthy, and there’s one that looks exactly the same size as a month ago! That one only eats infusoria, still. But all of them are doing well.
I’m still feeding TetraMin Baby every day hoping they would eat it one day. The uneaten food is used up by the shrimp.

Many of you are asking the same question. There are 2 Amanos, and a few wild shrimp in the tank. The wild shrimp are breeding. There's actually one adult female wild shrimp in the tank. This is her second time carrying eggs.
Foo the Flowerhorn sorry for my ignorant question but does the shrimps eat any of the baby fishes?
I for real really like your videos... but i have a question. You see, i have started an aquarium and i'm very rookie, so one of the plants was contamined with planaria, so now i have them. The tank doesn't have fish yet, but i was thinking about putting neon tetra and otocinclus. Any advice to get rid of these ugly worms (they are like 6mm long)? I really want to put shrimps but i can't because of them, they already killed my only little snail...
mrmousecat I don't know about all shrimp, but amanos are little gangsters. they're opportunistic and can get pretty aggressive. if they can catch one, they'll eat it. the wild shrimp in this tank are very docile, though.
there are planaria medicine readily available. from top of my head, "no-planaria" or fenbendazole will work.
Is wild shrimp a term you are using for a shrimp you collected in the wild or a more general term for shrimp that you purchased that were not identified?
No doubt these videos are one of the best about fish on youtube
Antscanada has a few. Unfortunately i never know which ones they are
Do you think everyone in the tank is like “ ohh guys is trimming day”
Yes have you ever seen finding Nemo
[cries in cannibal]
Trying to explain to my partner why I love watching these is quite difficult, it’s reality tv without the fluff and I love it. I like how you really bring life to these creatures, and make their patterns noticeable. I’ve never been into fish tanks but you make it easy to understand, and see progression.
This is my second round of watching these videos(some maybe more), and I really love it. I had really bad panic attacks and I feel watching this really helps.
You've got to be the most patient person on the planet to handle that much plant maintenance as delicately as you do.
the lengths you go to save the life of a single baby fish are honestly heartwarming and impressive. i think i might have given up after the baby food didnt work, but you just kept going!
I love that you're put more effort to make the fry lived by using physics or tools or whatever you need to do. I love it! Especially the way that you documented your tanks and wrap it into an awesome documentaries. Great camerawork!
I can't even begin to explain how great your videos are. They're so relaxing to watch, while at the same time educational. The amount of patience, and care that you display is unbelievable.
National Geographic should hire you and pay you to do this series on their channel! This is phenomenal work and so very interesting. I've viewed this twice ... thank you so much!
Seriously a great series. I haven't found another video series like this.
Aquatic life + Classical piano = Serenity.
Thank you!!!
cala a boca ai meu
the quality of these videos is better than my eyes
Dude this is best channel ive ever seen
Men ur videos are so addictive can stop watching. The best video about aquarium ecosystem one could ask for in one's lifetime. You may thank us for watching but we thank u even more for sharing.
I love the ending.
"Hey man are done in h--..oop, sorry."
Just found your channel and I cant stop binge watching this series. Keep up the amazing work. 💖
Please don't ever stop making these videos
These videos bring me to a state of calm that I didn’t expect to get when I got onto UA-cam
In my youth I was a member of an aquarium club for about 5 years. Just like you the sport was to create some biotope where the plants first and then the fish felt comfortabele. I really loved the Corydoras species. After refreshing the water, they were mating with bursting eggs. Just like in nature when a lot of fresh water came down the river. The shrimps are really great for cleaning as well! The weren't used then. I could write a lot more about this but maybe I should start it up again.
BRINE SHRIMP EGGS ARE MAGENETIC! WHAT!?
This is perfection
the perfection with which you make videos is really appreciable, I like how you point out small details, your work describes your passion, and we too enjoying watching that.. keep it up. 👌👍
These videos are actually my favourite on UA-cam, the music is always top quality as well.
these videos are the reason I wake up in the mornings. looking forward to more!
Hey man, absolutely love these videos about this tank. You've inspired me to try this same concept with a 10 gallon tank, and I was wondering if you were open to selling some of the extra floating plants, and possibly some of your trimmings next time you do maintenance.
Your video is always the first one I click on to watch whenever I see you have uploaded :)
Забавные мальки, смешные креветки и котик в конце 😅
these videos are my favorite thing on youtube right now - thank you
i love the Shrimps.. they are calm and hardworking lol this aquarium need to be the shrimps kingdom
i feel so emotionally invested in these fishies
Always use these to relax a little
Infusoria: exists
Everybody liked that
this is alchemy folks...great work
Of course they like it when the parents are not home; party time.
10:37 now this quote will be my life motto
I’m so glad I found your channel. I recently got some duckweed and I’d remembered seeing someone’s videos where they have a hoop in the top of the tank, presumably to stop duck weed blocking all the light out. So i thought I gotta find that channel and see if I can find out how it’s made.
I’m really hoping an earlier video shows it. I’ve been going through some videos, randomly. But going to go back to the start and watch in sequence. Love your channel.
I really love this song and plus the video is so satisfying
The most calming videos on the internet. Aren't you afraid of dragging some of the little creatures out when you trim?
yea, I have to check every bit of plant material when I take it out. I've never pulled one out with plants, but while removing water, it happens somewhat often.
Fantastic video! So relaxing to watch! Very inspiring too!
Outstanding video! Beautiful tank!
Can't wait for the next episode
Thank you for your enriching presentations, they are rewarding
:) Dušan
Idk why, it's just so relaxing ❤️❤️❤️
Really healing me
It’s relaxing to watch
These videos are great. If I get an aquarium, I'm gonna do it like you senpai.
Very soothing thank you for the tasteful music.
i love watching this so much
Thank you, it's always a pleasure to watch your videos, keep going !
YES! I've been waiting on this update, keep up the great work (:
Man, this videos are awesome, thank you!
Dat plot twist at the end 😂👍
FINALLY AN UPDATE!!
Beautiful as always!
Nice video, and most surprizing for me: the trick with the magnet, nice! :-)
영상이 힐링됩니다~~
Merci de partager cela.❤
This is relaxing as shit to watch , especially with the music in the background.
Love your choice of music :) so soothing.. would really appreciate if you can provide some reference for the music! Sorry in advance if i missed the reference if you did post it
Check the very bottom of the description.
Foo the Flowerhorn sorry i missed it! Thanks so much! They are beautifuk :)
Such peace
This video cured my depression
Time to update us on its 6th Month !!
Eagerly waiting............
It'll be up pretty soon. In a day or two.
cheers..
Man your patience is paying off, these videos are so relaxing.
Isn't this Minecraft music :O?
Il solito Obsidemon no its not
Were you able to count how many babies you started out with? How many have survived to this point in time?
Do I understand correctly, the brine shrimp that you hatched, some of them grew in the tank? I never thought of them past the baby food stage.
Thanks for taking the time and care to share what you're doing. I'm inspired.
I wrote more about the babies in the description. I think there's half a dozen left at this point. brine shrimp didn't grow in the tank. in the tank, I don't think they lasted more than half a day. they lasted 3~4 days in the plastic bottle, though.
Apologies if I missed it. With your attention to detail, I always read the descriptions. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Beatiful bro, love it this videos!!
i have to ask, what is the soundtrack you have on your videos? it's magically
Nice documentry loved it👌
I really like your video's, keep it up!
An unusually enjoyable way to enjoy Erik Satie's most famous piece. Lovely :D
Can you describe in detail the types of plants you grow in the tank
Love your vids for their calm and music. But I know this erik satie song way too much now haha. Schubert, Chopin or Debussy would work great as well ;)
So Nice so peace full love it wowiiii
i think i just saw one of your fish wandering outside the tank
4:11 Now that's cool :)
Beautiful tank a real inspiration. How long do you leave your light on each day?
11 hours.
Omg u are the best master!
great videos
Many thanks.. Love the vids... Can I ask what the music is?
Are the Amano shrimp breeding in fresh water, but the hatch babies are growing up in fresh water too? Amano shrimplets need a saltwater/brackish environment to grow up in. How are yours growing up in freshwater?
THIS IS SO FREAKING COOL THANK YOU
Foo the Flowerhorn, I'm extremely curious about how you got such good footage of all the little animals and plants. Did you really film all of this on your phone? Does the 3 in 1 clip seriously work that well? Personally, I'm not the best photographer and would love to learn more about it.
yes, I used v10 for this tank series. all manual mode. it is simply impossible to do the shots on auto. I didn't share the settings b/c each shot required different settings. I fiddle with iso, shutter speed, white balance, and manual or auto focus during every shot. I mainly use manual focus most of the time. for the 3 in 1, yes, I only use the macro lens. the other 2 are useless for aquarium shooting. the thing about macro shooting is that focal length is very short. around an inch. any object farther than 1 inch away will never become focused. so the close up shots I got were very lucky shots. they had to wander around near the glass.
if you understand what iso, shutter speed, and white balance does, that's all you really need. those 3 things are the foundation for any photography. to use them in combination for a best shot, well, that takes some practice.
Thank you! That really helped. I realized that my S7 is so much easier to control manually than my D40. Lol.
Erik Satie would be happy.
Awesome 😃😃
I like this.
i love your videos !!!!!!!
Make a video on them
Omg!!! This is so much work! I wonder if this guy has time for friends or a girlfriend 🤔
I've never seen you do any gravel vacuuming. Do you vacuum your gravel? Or you just let it be? I need to know please thank you
Hey. I have never kept an aquarium with live plants, but I want to try this with my kids.
How much food do you add during each phase and what kinds of food?
hello guys. im new to watching these kind of videos and i immediately found them extrordinary. Could someone just tell me if that is considered as an aquarium or vivarium or anything else plase? thank you:))
After I kicked the parents out everybody was much happier lol
Do you have a water heater in your tank? I see you have something in the back left corner and I am not sure what it is.
Why did you use a glass on top? It wasn't difficult to oxygenate the tank?
He even use a neodymine magnet to extract those shells.. this guy is a professor or something
What do you do with the plant trimmings? compost?
my 20 G Community tank will be switch to like that so some fishes I will donate to someone
legendary
What happen next?? you should make more video
I find it fascinating that you dont even speak a word but your videos have more qualities than these other fish keeping youtube channel
Thats Bullshit subtitles fam
SpEaK
Just like Primitive Technology, their content speaks for itself since it's so good and well made.
A lot of other channel owners are trying to be celebrities so it becomes more about them than the subject matter. One beautiful channel, which does have narration, is AntsCanada, Like this channel, it's the saga of what goes on with the lives in the tanks - except with the colonies of ants he keeps.
Well said...
