what is the name of the moss?, I do not understand your language
@@user-ck8oq5xw5h Weeping Moss - Vesicularia ferriei
Is it possible to combine the moss and carpeting into 1 step? Would reduce 2 weeks from the setup
I think yes. I was worried about the moss, but now I would do it in one step :)
@@AquascapingCube i will start tomorrow :)
Thank you!
So I spent the last couple of weeks researching how I want my shrimp tank to look, trying to find a balance between clever solutions, aesthetics and affordability and after looking at what feels like over 30+ videos about tank setups this feels just right for me
Thank you! Good luck with your setup!
That moss trick is like using buttermilk and moss in a blender to paint onto unglazed clay flower pots, producing new pots that look like vintage ones that have sat outdoors for years.
That's a great idea!
Takashi amano pioneered it first by chopping up the moss with a knife super fine as it adds many grow points and creates a natural look
dude, mixing the substrate with the moss and then painting it on was SO SMART. I'll have to try it! very cool tank
Thanks! Sure, give it a try!
That Moss trick is excellent!!
Thank you :) I'm glad you liked it!
Easily one of the best nano build videos on UA-cam!!! So easy to see how it can be done and the best part is more likely to keep getting popular as energy and everything else is going up , so thats a great reason to make some more☆
Wow, thanks! Glad you liked it :)
Wow your moss paste idea is so great! I am going to build a shrimp tank here within the next few months and I am definitely using your idea! Thank you.
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
Amazing video! I really appreciate the fact that you took your time and didn't rush anything and gave great insight on each step you were going through!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful :)
This is absolutely one of the coolest micro environments I have ever seen created! I love the step by step narrative of making it happen. You, sir, have done a masterful job! Can’t wait to see how it progresses and continues to develop.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it :)
Absolutely gorgeous build! The moss paste idea is ingenious and something I plan on doing for my next nano shrimp tank.
Awesome! Thank you!
I think I am planning on doing this as well. Genius idea
Very comprehensive and articulate. You are far superior to most UA-camrs! This is inspiring me for my next nano tank. Thank you so much for posting!
Wow, thank you very much! It means a lot to read comments like this one! I'm glad you liked it, and good luck with your build!
man I've become big fan of yours, you're doing great.................
this tank was an absolute masterpiece
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I absolutely love your patience doing this. I'm about to rush in and buy plants but now I think I'll take my time and play with moss more. Its looks so effective! Love your creation!
Thank you so much :) Yes, this is nice method. I'm planning to make another one on bigger scale to get more experience. But it will take time ;)
It's a great way to enjoy and take in the whole experience rather than rushing to get the end result. I now want lots of moss over my drift wood and will give this method a go. I'll get my kids involved too. Thanks for inspiring me!
Thank you thank you so much for the step-by-step how to on the dry start method.
I am saving this video to my Video Collection for future use.
Great to hear! Glad it was helpful! :)
I’m in awe!! What a comprehensive build. I’m only a 1-month+ old nano tank owner. I’m interested in adding some shrimps eventually but based on what I read and from your video, I might need more live plants to make them happy. I only have Java fern at the moment.
Watching your video was so relaxing. Seeing the moss come back alive was wonderful.
Awesome! Thank you!
This is incredible!!! The moss painting 😍
Thank you so much 😀
This is beautiful..I was unaware I could start like this without the use of co2.. definitely want to give this a try
Thank you! Yes, you can try, there is no risk :)
I keep opae ula (brackish water) without a filter or pump. I'm thinking about creating a no-tech freshwater nano shrimp tank and have watched countless videos. Yours is my favorite by far. I loved the moss trick and definitely want to incorporate that into my tank when I create it. Thank you so much for a fantastic video!
Thank you! :) And good luck with your setup!
Really enjoyed watching this, early morning. I have a spare small aquarium and now I am inspired to do something like this, with the help of your tips (especially the moss and substrate. Fantastic idea. Thankyou. 😊
Thank you! It's very nice to read :)
That moss trick is amazing!
Thanks! :D I'm glad you liked it!
Really great stuff man! Im starting a nano shrimp tank myself and I've never seen anything like what you did with the Flame moss! i'll try it out also please keep making more content you totally deserve more views!
I'm glad you liked it :) Thank you for your comment, means a lot!
Why am I just now finding you? 😭 I watched this whole video start to finish like one of my regulars. Good work sirdy 💛
Thank you :) I'm glad you liked it!
This is next level artistry. woww! If you can drop in the products you have used that would be great such as tank, light etc.
I am so glad to have come across your chanel as this is exactly the size tank I have.
Great! Glad you liked it!
Very peaceful watching and learning your techniques - bravo to you & inspiring me to try it myself. Cheers from Toronto.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it :)
Absolutely brilliant video. I love the humour and the end result, with some very informative tips.
Thanks so much!
Nice! I'm going to set up a 10 gallon tank for shrimp only. For the short term I need it for my plants and fish while I do a complete rebuild first on my 29 and then my 20 high. Once I have those two up and running and balanced I'm going to set it up as a dirted tank for my shrimp.
Sounds great! Good luck with you project!
Oh matt I love this you did a great job, a perfect little nano tank, also no maintenance I love it ! have a fabulous day :)
Hi Tracy. Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked it! Always great to see you here :) Have a great weekend!
Thnx for the inspiration. Dry start is a miracle for me and my moss is thriving like crazy. Now i am going for the carpet! Wish me luck
That is great to hear! Good luck!
@@AquascapingCube is it possible to dry start with other plants too? For example Cryptocoryne Flamingo, or and rotala or and anubias mini.
@@gorky_fr Yes, but not all of them. In general the best ones are: mosses, carpeting plants and epiphytes. Stem plants like Rotala are not great for dry start and I wouldn't recommend it.
@@AquascapingCube so for Cryptocoryne Flamingo and anubias nana i can try a dry start!
I'm planning to set up my first planted tank and I'm very confuse if I need to have filtration and co2. This video is the answer and it gives bonus tips especially that moss trick. Thank you for uploading this
Glad it was helpful!
Wow wow wow!!! I am in love with this one. Thank you for the amazing footage. I want to give the moss "trick" a try 😊
Go for it! :) Thank you for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)
i love this so much...i am a beginner with tanks and shrimps and my water is getting murky even with a filter. i want to try your method. it's just so stunning...and i love moss. you make it look so simple.
Go for it! Start small, see what is not working, try to fix the issues, experiment and keep going! It's really not that difficult, but more you do it - the more experience you get. We were all beginners at some point :) Good luck!
Thank you so much. yes i will keep trying. i normally have 2 tanks on the go...so when i get new shrimp, or have to clean out a tank, i can put the shrimp, plecos and snails into the established fresh tank. i must get better substrate and a new light. love your channel...because it's beginner friendly. i really don't want to go the route of expensive filters, Co2 etc. i want nature to do what it naturally does.
I like the dry start especially crushing the soil to make a paste nice
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it :)
Looks great - never seen the moss "soup" method but the results look great and seems easy to do, so i am very tempted to try
Yes, It's not that difficult :) But it requires some patience ;)
thank you youtube for recommending me this channel. i think nobody explains it as much as detailed as you. i'm going to start following your channel.
Thank you for your comment! Glad you enjoy it! :)
Wow that's a wonderful design. The moss growing method looks relly good. Will give it a try
Thank you! Yes, it's growing really good :)
That just looks gorgeous. I’m going to order some moss for the aquarium that I am converting from fish (through natural wastage) to shrimp.
Thank you! Good luck with your build!
Great video - even better result. Wow!
I’m glad you like it!
I will try this method of mixing soil with moss-like plants using an even slower growing species. I am thinking of Riccardia which to my taste fits even better to achieving a dark mystic forest. I am going to combine Riccardia, roots and lava rocks in conjunction with a Buddha statue. I can't wait to try that out...
Good luck to you for your future builds.👍
Sounds great! Thank you and all the best!
Amazing! Looks beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Moss idea is very good
Thanks! :)
Thanks for sharing this piece of art with us! Absolutely stunning! I am a newbie and trying to make 36l nano ecosystem fish tank so this video is very helpful and full of tips how to do it properly.
Thank you!
Would it be possible to keep a pair of Betta male and female and few shrimps in this size of fish tank?
I know that it is possible to keep one Betta but I don't feel it's good to keep Betta alone.
Thank you :) I'm glad you liked it!
Keeping a pair in this tank will always end with one of them dead :P This is what they do. And keeping betta alone is absolutely not bad for them, they will be totally fine - so don't worry about that ;) But if you wish - you could keep one betta and OTHER fish like few small corydoras or harlequin rasboras?
@@AquascapingCube Thanks for getting back to me! Will have a look at these species as I need to entertain my cat because she is always watching TV with exotic birds and I hope she will enjoy watching Beta and I enjoy watch the football 🤣
Hey, just love the way it's been made and wow you had lot of patience for all the moss and the plants to grow before u add the shrimp...
But I have few questions, hope you clear it
1. Did you do water changes , what was the water change periods so far
2. I can see fungus on the woods at the top, how do you deal with it
3. How powerful the lights should be for 9 hours a day
Thank you!
1) Very little changes, and not very often. For shrimp every 3-4 weeks is enough, and I keep them very small (10-15%).
2) I did nothing ;) And it went away, it always does after a while.
3) For dry start - it can be VERY powerful, that is the point because you will not get algae. Once I filled it in with water, I kept it relatively weak. 6W LED at 60% if I remember correctly.
@@AquascapingCube thanks a lot for explaining....
Thank you for the details, starting my first nano.
Great! Good luck!
This is sooo beautiful and i learned a lot!! Thank you😊
I'm glad you liked it! :) Thank you :)
Beautiful simple and elegant scape. I love this video 📹
Thank you! 😊 Great to hear
Absolutely beautiful work, painting the moss on is something I’ve never seen before and it’s incredible how well it works! I’m planning on making a similar tank setup myself, how’s it done long term?
Thank you so much 😀 I worked great in the long run. The only problem I had was moss taking over the entire tank and it was also going into carpet. But overall it was working just great.
5:30 Wow I have never seen people doing this method before ! Blows my mind
Haha. Im glad you liked it :)
Nicely done. Getting ready to do a shrimp nano and looking for some idea. This was a great video! Thanks
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Very cool! Can't go wrong with lava rock! Thanks for showing us how you did this scape
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
@@AquascapingCube crushing up the aquasoil with the moss is a great idea! Better than just using yogurt and moss. I think your idea is great. If someone was worried about mold, then they could add a bit of potassium sorbate to the moss slurry.
Великолепно! В таком маленьком аквариуме получилось сделать такой прекрасный пейзаж!
Love that moss tip. I will use it!
Great! Good luck! :)
It looks stunning and I learnt many things from this. Kudos for the great work. Love and support from Chennai :)
Thank you so much 😊
Awesome. You maybe could have saved two weeks if you planted the carpet plants at the same time with the moss? Is that possible?
Thank you! Yes, absolutely. I was worried about the different growth speeds, but next time I would just do it at the same time.
The moss trick was a good tip 👍
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
amazing techniques! I will definitely use the moss paste trick
Thank you! Yes, you should try :D
I love it! Going to give it a try. Can you do this with US Fissidens moss?
Thanks! I haven't used this moss myself, but in general it should work with almost all types. I did it with 3 different ones and it worked great!
Really beautiful!
Thank you!
Nice work man!
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks awesome! Why not do the dry start all at once? Is not good to do the carpet and moss at the same time?
Thanks! No, there is no reason. I just wanted to be sure that moss has more time to attach and grow a little, because it was in very small pieces. But second time I would just do them at the same time ;)
Broooo never knew it can be done like this . Thank you ima try this soon in my small cubes. Sick !!!👌👌👌
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! :D
Fantastic scape! Really like the end result! 😍
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice .
Any secret to make the grass spread (carpet) so nice and fast without co2?
Thank you! No, there is no secret. Parvula spreads very easily without CO2 :)
Nice nano and nice video! Parvula grows without co2? The trick with the moss was really awesome
Thank you. Yes, I grow parvula without CO2 in many tanks and it always works for me :)
Thank you this will help me make my first shrimp tank :)
Great! Good luck! :)
Thanks for the information. Really good video for a beginner like me who wants to start with a small tank with minimal maintenance:)
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Love it it is worth watching and it is very informative. Thank you for your video.
Very nice of you :) Glad it was helpful!
really informative. I'm currently following your method and today is the 11th day. but my flame moss seems to grow really² slow, can't wait to see the progress. btw, what's your tank average temperature?
It stays around 23-24 C. Moss always needs some time to start growing. At the beginning is always looks like almost nothing is happening. But later you will see much faster growth. Best of luck!
Nice work man..well explained
Thank you! Glad you liked it :)
Very nice. I think it would have been nice to speak about the inhabitance and maybe show when you were stocking the tank. Overall, a very nice scape and outcome. 👍🏽
Great suggestion! Thank you!
Wow, that looks awesome, and I love it, can I make a smaller one in a jar?
Thank you! Yes, you can :) I did similar smaller tanks like this in the past. You just need to consider what you will put inside and how big is your jar.
This tank turned out so gorgeous! The moss paste application looks so easy to do- I must try it. Also, and this might sound like a stupid question, but could you apply moss to driftwood in this way? I can't think of any reason why not, but I'm a self-professed fish nerd who has only recently learned how to stop killing my anubias.
Thank you! Yes you can do it with drift wood - I'm planning to create something like this in near future. The only thing to remember is to use wood with rough surface, so the moss can attach itself.
@@AquascapingCube That's great to hear! The piece of wood I have in mind is actually covered in little nooks and crannies, so that's quite fortuitous. And oooh- that project sounds interesting! I will be staying tuned.
Very nice video. I have a new 25 liter shrimp tank too and heavily planted. However hearing a lot of conflicting information. Some say water flow is needed on the surface for the flow of oxygen and all co2 for the plants. I have currently both and wondering if what you made is really sustaining in the long term ? How many shrimps would be wise to add to a 25 liter tank? And kudos for the video !
Thank you! You can put 15-20 shrimp for the start - they will breed quite fast. For the CO2 - it's really optional, depending on the plant types you have in your tank. And for water surface, yes some movement can be beneficial, but is not necessary. I have a lot of tanks, some of them have filters, others don't and they are all doing just fine.
Beautiful scape! Are all aquatic plants can stay alive with dry start method? I've heard about moss before, but I see you also do this to another plant. And how many times per day did you spray the tank? Thank you
Edit: sorry I just saw your description and in your other video you wrote down good dry start method plants, thank you very much!
Great! I'm glad you liked it!
Do the rocks have to be rough or can they be more smooth and still have the moss paste grow on them also great video i am very inspired 👍
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it :) Yes, those rocks should be quite rough - otherwise moss might float/detach when you put the water in.
Looks amazing. After flooding did you use C02 ?
Thanks! No, there is no CO2 there.
beautiful tank
is there a reason you let the moss grow before the carpet grass
or could i plant them both at the same time
Thank you. Yes, you can plant them both at the same time. I just did in like that because I wanted the moss to really grow into the rocks. But there is no problem with doing all of it at the same time.
I absolutely love the setup, try adding some tiger shrimp to the tank! It will make the tank active and crazy/cool!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it :) I had few doubts during that setup, but I turned out ok :)
@@AquascapingCube oh! It happens all the time 😂
Thank you so much for the tutorial I have given it a go and if it turns out half as good as yours I will be pleased . How often do you spray with water thank you
You’re welcome 😊 I spray it when I see the moisture going down. Sometimes every day, sometimes every 2 days etc.
Thanks for the great video! Was wondering would adding some springtails + snails help on the filtering?
Thank you! There are some snails inside already (Clithon Corona), and they are doing a great job!
Will that moss tip work with all mosses such as weeping moss? Thanks for your videos, you and many other creators are helping me to learn a lot, I am about to attempt my first project with a Paludarium but also got a Amtra Nano 30 on the way to get my shrimp collection going.
Sounds great! Yes, this will work with other types of moss. I did this many times and had great results :)
@@AquascapingCube Great, now if Swell UK would just deliver my tank I can get going! Will be 2 weeks on Monday since I ordered it and it was in stock, taken till today to get the item picked up from courier . I plan to upload vids when it is complete.
Amazing build can I let grow the roots of an monstera into the tank or are they not good for shrimp?
Thank you! Yes, monstera should not be a problem :)
Love it!
I will definitely try the same set-up, thank you so much for sharing ❤
Thank you :) Yes, go for it!
A nice video and tutorial for beginners. Love your video and your work guys. Keep up great video in the future ! Tks for sharing!
Thank you! Will do!
Amazing video! Thank you for this masterclass!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely fantastic can you use this method with other mosses ie elating hydropper
Yes, absolutely. I used it many times with many different plants.
fantastic video !did you get all this plant and moss growth without any co2 injection ?
Thank you! Yes, there was no CO2 in this tank at any point.
Love this tank! I am going to start one for my classroom. Can you please tell me what light you are using?
Thank you :) That is great to hear, go for it! :D The light was Aquael Leddy Smart Day&Night
Great setup, i am in the process of doing the same. How often & how much water do you change for this no filter setup? I will be using a airstone under the rocks for circulation & hopefully filteration from the porous rocks
Thank you! I was changing water only at the beginning and quite small amounts. Later I was just topping the water that evaporated. Zero problems and all shrimp were doing fine and breeding like crazy. But airstone seems like a good idea, it will definitely minimize the risk for potential problems.
Hello mate is there any alternative to moss paste mix other than active soil? will some garden soil with a bit of crushed osmocote be as effective ?
Yes, it can. You just need to be more careful about mold. That means more venting. Otherwise it will work great!
Hi I'm just a beginner this video is absolutely perfect to understand.. but I just want to ask do we need to add the anti chlorine in d water
Thank you! About the anti chlorine: it strongly depends on the water from your tap. If you have a lot of chlorine, then yes. But if you are not sure - to be safe you can keep the water in a bucket for few days, before putting it into the tank.
@@AquascapingCube TQ for d helpful information 🤝🙂
I want to do something like this!! What is the upkeep like? how often do you feed? change water?
It's not problematic. I feed 3 times/week. I don' t make any water changes, just adding water that evaporates. The only problem I had was the moss taking over the tank - because it grows EVERYWHERE :)
Absolutely wonderful video! The painting with moss thing blew my mind! I want some shrimp now! No, but im just getting into the hobby and this is one of the best nano builds ive seen. excellent video!
Wonderful! Thank you very much for your comment! I'm glad you liked it! Welcome in the hobby :)
Very nice work. I might try something similar.
Thank you :)
Thanks fyi I'm in s project right now and I got to move my shrimpletons
Great job!!! I have a question about the light. How many lumens are needed for that kind of set up?
Thank you! I was using light with 520 lumens and everything was working great!
@@AquascapingCubethank you for the inspiration! I am going to give it a try!
Moss trick worked great for me with flame moss!! How successful do you think it would be with Java moss or any other moss really?
Great! :) It works for almost all mosses. I tried with java, flame, spiky, christmas - always works very well :)
@@AquascapingCube amazing! Thank you!
Beautiful love it so much , how many watt is light for plant and carpet plant
Thank you. The light was Aquael Leddy Smart 4.8W. And carpating plant is Eleocharis Parvula.
This is incredible! How do yilou keep algae under control?
Thank you! Algae are not really an issue. I just made very small water changes and was careful with light. Shrimp and snails were cleaning everything up.
@AquascapingCube ah ok! Really appreciate the response. What would you recommend the light parameter to be if I put the tank near next to a windows? I would probably only need natural lighting and no overhead light?
Very good vid and videography. Your voice was fine.
Thank you :)
