This setup would easily best any soundbar and undercut the premium ones in price. Or there are plenty of other speaker options to pick now and upgrade components later. That is the best part of a real home theater setup is you can easily upgrade and swap things that fit your environment and budget when you want to.

What a sweet deal… if any of you guys are still considering sounds bars I beg you, please consider this as an option. You just can’t beat sound separation , which is impossible to get out of any sound bar.
I want to replace my s500bt with the s760h

You deserve a medal. This video was amazing. Helped me make my decision and save a little coin at the same time.
awesome video dude, just a regular dude upgraded his regular set up, no frills and relatable... thanks!
Thank you, I've been waiting for someone I trust to review this receiver. I saw it at Costco and thought it would be perfect to power my 5.1.2 with my A80J 77. Glad I did, feel like I got one of the better deals for this year at thst price. I thoroughly enjoy how detailed your videos are and how much knowledge you share with us. Thanks again brother!
This is my exact setup!
Great Review, Classy!
I just ordered the Receiver from CostCo thanks to your Review!
Just bought this receiver! I'll be running the 7.2. pretty excited to have two subs going.
Exactly the info I was looking for, thanks! 👍🏽
Great work my friend, appreciate you!! BOOM
Thanks for the video. I found your channel from AVS Forum . I picked this up at Costco when it first hit the shelf and was contemplating returning for a more expensive model, so this video came out at the right time!
What settings like Audessey EQ, dynamic volume, etc are you using?
I’d also like to know what settings you’re using for games, too.
Great advice to only pay more for channels or some important features. Buy efficient speakers like Klipsch, which are on average 10db more sensitive than others. You can get by with a lot less powerful amp, but still be able to drive your speakers loudly, saving money. Feature-wise, my Denon has Dolby Height Virtulization, and I have been so happy with this enhancement, I haven’t added Atmos speakers. Also, Odyssey calibration does make a difference, so get a receive with a more feature-rich calibration. Finally, don’t buy receivers for the latest HDMI updates. Plug your more demanding devices directly into the tv, and utilize ARC/EARC to save money and extend the life of your AVR.
Its not ideal to plug my rtx3080 directly into the TV and then have a separate input for sound. This causes many issues. Very annoying and even with earc still get pops on my fire cube
You must have one hell of a microphone , sounds great.
Good video. What do you set personally as your LPF frequency for the sub? Have you posted the trick with the A80j to fix Dolby vision dark color temperature change?
120hz
I have one more thing to test before I do that video on the A80J
We seem to have far fewer options in the entry level receiver market now. When I bought my Sony STR-DH770 in 2017 there were more than a few from each manufacturer all ranging from $250-500. My Sony is a pretty decent bare bone receiver. No dolby atmos, dolby vision, no streaming, no wifi, no am/fm antenna, etc. I kind of prefer a more simpler receiver if it means it comes with 5 way binding posts more channels or more power. The Sony DH790 that came out right after mine as all the bells and whistles but spring clip speaker connectors which are lame.
Seems like a very reasonable price for this item.
the s760h is actually an x series in disguise. It has the quad 300mhz DLC technology that the X2700h has! It's literally all the same internals as the x1700h, You can see the insides oof both AVRs on the Denon site. They crushed it in response to the s960h being called out for lower grade sound
It sounds like the x4700h is on Flat while the s760h is on Reference though. I'll have it set to flat with Medium Dynamic Range applied
Nice review. I just bought this from Costco. Pretty happy with it, wish it had a bit more power. Generally I listen between 60-70%, but if I want the home theater experience I need to push it to 80%. It’s decent receiver, good for home theater, but this wouldn’t be my first choice for listening to music. The setup on it is functional but pretty dated. It replaced a Harmon Kardon that was about 12 years old. The Denon is light years ahead in terms of surround processing, but the Harmon Kardon had a much better amplifier. Even though they were both rated at similar wattages, the HK was about 50% heavier and had a more robust power output. Thanks
Do you run your speakers small or large?
@@BigDavos I run them large for a couple reasons. The fronts have 8 inch woofers. I also will turn off or turn down the sub at night when people are sleeping, so if I had these on small, I would miss too much when I turn the sub down or off. It’s all subjective though. Try it both ways, loud, medium and low volume. Try a few different movies and see what works best for you. Speaker placement, speaker response, listener position, content all play a role. Don’t let anyone tell you what you should do, base it on your own preferences and testing.
Can the 2 extra channels be used as front Left and Right Speaker B? I use Speaker B for desktop speakers and Speaker A for the 5.1 Home Theater speakers. I manually swap back and forth as needed so I can share my Subwoofer setup.
hello classy tech could use some help on my Denon X4700H under bass options sub mode can you tell me what setting i should be using LFE+main or just Main? also LPF for LFE what HZ. running all klipsch 7.1 all Speakers set to small 80hz. any help will be really great. as this my first Denon. thank you.
amazon has this unit as a refub for $299
Hey I'm choosing between the 760h for $600 or the onkyo 6100 for$750, the Onkyo has 100 watts per channel, do you think it's worth the extra $150?
Hey Classy I have a Yamaha 7850 like you. Minus the HDMI 2.1 ports, are there other things you like better about the S760H over the 7850? Audyssey noticeably better than Yamaha YPAO?
I have both, the YPAO is absolute trash when compared to the AUDESSEY. I feel like the Denon is ideal for movies they just have better sound options
hello classy need some advice sold my Yamaha 3080 I wanted the upgrade HDMI 2.1 my choices are Yamaha A6A or Denon avr-x4700h never had a Denon I really would like your input? thank you very much.
I can hear the wow auction house in the back lol
I've had several soundbars and a surround sound package but it was only when I purchased an budget AVR and a pair of budget stereo speakers that I realised what I had been missing (stereo imaging, thumping base) besides going down this route one can always add to it overtime! subwoofer, surround speakers you could even get height speakers to get the full 'non-virtual' Dolby Atmos experience. Nowadays AVRs are so simple to setup, they even walk you through the process!
"Remember movies are made up of 50% visuals and 50% audio and there are occasions when the audio out does the visuals"
Brother classy- how would x4700H stack up against the Yamaha A8A Aventage unit? Auro 3D ready, refined performance, and beautiful looking..
Your input is appreciated..
From DUBAI with ♥️
They both do Auro3D. I was looking at the Yamaha as well and Techno Dad said he had the A8A and didn't care for it.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations very odd.. I assumed it would exceed expectation.. I’ll check techno dad’s review if has one posted for the full details… thank you classy and god bless..
@@ClassyTechCalibrations I had never watched Techno Dad until tonight (RXA8A review). 107k subs and he doesn't know how AVR receiver channels vs binding posts work, or how to look it up in the manual...I won't trust him with anything lol.
Im currently using a Sony DTH790, would the Denon S760 be an upgrade?
Man I was really hoping someone was going to test 4k_120hz_VRR on a LG C1 for me.
I can do that but according to owners in the Avsforum it works
Would the s760h be a good buy for my Polk 5.1 t50, cs10 center, psw10 subwoofer and psb b4 bookshelf speakers? Right now I have a s500bt that I found all together for 150 on Facebook marketplace. I might add atmos speakers next year but don’t want to go crazy. I have a tcl r625 tv, Panasonic 820, Nintendo switch and a fire tv cube
@Jesus Christ what do you mean melt them? I think it will be a good upgrade for my setup
@@Mjaybird disregard him, he either has no clue what he's talking about, or he's trolling. Yes it will work with your speakers.
@@andrewskaterrr thanks man. I am just looking for a good upgrade that has new features over my s500bt. Will I need banana plugs?
@@Mjaybird you never “need” banana plugs with binding posts (to my knowledge). I finally bought banana plugs though because it makes plugging in way easier and faster. I get the Chinese rebrand FosPower ones, 12pair/24pack that will do 6 full cables. I just got my 3rd bag in. I will say the barrel does unscrew easily but I just tighten down before pushing back in, not a big deal for the price difference.
@@andrewskaterrr thanks. The denon s500bt I have doesn’t need them because of the old connectors. I will just use what I have
Can this receiver be paired with Klipsch R-605FA home theater speakers 100w/400w
Should I go for the s760h or the x1700h (s china or the x japanes ) 20 euro's difference . Nevermind
Hands down I would get this receiver if it was 9 channel instead of 7. The Klipsch Costco set is 5.1.4 and was on sale for $749 last I checked. Wish it just had 2 more channels 😡
Just go for you, you won't be missing anything from those rear heights. They aren't worth the added cost.
The $899 speaker set at Costco with the towers is 5.0.2 and better speakers. For the money that set plus a sub and this receiver would be better than the smaller speaker set that's 5.1.4.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations I have my system usually configured in 7.2.2. need those side surround speakers and rear
@@Bradli the 5.1.4 wouldn't work then if you wanted the rears. Could get the 5.0.2 set and add the two bookshelves they offer to that, and Pioneer has a decent looking AVR for $1000 that is 9.2.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations trying to stay as close to $1000 as possible. Probably gonna wait for Onkyo line to be available. Or just go with a soundbar. If I get QN90A I don't need a HDMI 2.1 receiver. But I may hold out for Q900A. Just want to see final BF ads first. Surely the 8k TVs are gonna discount more and Sony surely will as well
@@ClassyTechCalibrations yes you will
What do you think about the onkyo tx nr6050? They are similar in Price
I have that on the way
@@ClassyTechCalibrations
That is great may I ask if you are still going to review the onkyo tx nr6050?
What speakers were you using? The RMS matters when it comes to watts per channel.
What is the db sensitivity rating on your speakers?
I have a full matched set of Infinity Primus from 2015ish. This is a review of the towers.
www.audioholics.com/tower-speaker-reviews/primus-p363
Yo Brad
60db vs 70db is a huge difference.
The db was the same +/- 1-2. The volume settings were 60/70, which was the points on both before audible distortion.
Great for movies. I don't think it would sound good in music.
Costco does not sell it anymore. Amazon is way over priced, and Best Buy is sold out as usual.
Costco does sell it. It may temporarily be sold out on the website, but it'll be back and is in stores.
Saw it in my local Costco yesterday. Plenty of boxes.
I just received one on the 8th. Ordered it the 4th. Store was out but they were getting more on the 12th.
The 4700 is way better the power supply is much stronger en the preamp and amps are from a much better kwaliteit
Wen set up correctly it wil blow the s760 out of the water
Why do you have to compare these 2 giant and a dwarf 😂
