    For $500, this is a great deal. Hope it stands up to long term use. Btw, for anyone considering this unit: be aware the issues experienced by frustrated Onkyo owners over the past many years are generally related to overheating in certain areas of the circuit board. Make sure you do NOT put this unit in an enclosed space! And don’t pile other gear on top of it! Give it plenty of air circulation, to give it the best possible chance of not having those issues.

      Hi, Just picked up my TX-NR6050. I am replacing an older TX-SR-608, which is still working fine. I noticed the excess heat right away. I used the same technique to curb heat on the old TX-SR-608. I place a 12VDC low noise computer fan with blue LEDs on top of case. Since heat rises, the fan is oriented to pull air out of the case. Now the TX-NR6050 runs cool all day. Go Atmos!

    The Onkyo seems to have very good forward sound and more discernable dialogue than the Denon. I also like that smooth user interface with EQ settings. These advantages would definitely steer me to the Onkyo despite being a Denon customer since 1986.

    I have this Receiver over a year now and love it . I just added a second Subwoofer and 7.2 is awesome. The only problem I continue to have it if I use the TV/CBL (Samsung DVR and Samsung TV)input is taken over by the STREAM INPUT , Where I have Apple TV. It goes back to TV when I press TV CBL again. I did have a brief problem where I was not getting any signal through inputs. I called Onkyo Customer Service which was US based. They stayed on with me for over and hour and we eventually fixed that problem. I still have not fixed the Apple TV issue .

The problem I had was not able to get sound with my Samsung Cable Box , Samsung QN90 TV even though It worked with Apple TV. Bought the Onkyo 6050. I love it fixed that problem. Great performance similar to review. One problem I do have when I turn on CBL/SAT Input , Apple TV forces Stream Input. I have to manually change back to CBL SAT

    In 2014, the HDMI board caused issues with no sound on my HT-RC360. The warranty had just expired but Onkyo wanted to authorize a "one time repair". I'm willing to give them another shot because of that. The only thing is my new TV now has 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs so I can loop the audio out of its optical output back into the old Onkyo for 5.1 audio. Not sure I'd miss Atmos, built in Spotify and Wi-Fi.

    I think you got me convinced to pick this receiver up from Costco. I was thinking between this Onkyo 6050, Denton 760H and Yamaha YST-700. But I think this one seem to be the best of the three. The only fear I have is the long term reliability of the Onkyo name for the past few years. I believe it was pretty good in before the 2010s.

The Onkyo put sound in front of you the dinning covers you in sound, you can do more with the Onkyo I agree but if music quality was the key factor music quality on the Denon is far better than Onkyo

    My Onkyo 626 seems to be going after getting crackling on one channel. After much troubleshooting, seems I'm due for a replacement. My options are somewhat limited given my preferences (sub 500, phono, strong 2.1 preference). I was about to pull the trigger on the Denon 1600 then I came across this item on Costco after checking out the 760. As a big researcher, I noticed limited impressions on this product outside of some forum discussions. However, those forums pointed me here and now this product is on the way. Thinking about switching to this one from the S760h. The extra power sounds nice, but the real reason is the dual HDMI outputs. It's going in the home theater, where we will eventually have a retractable screen for the movie Nights on the UST projector. Which will cover up the Samsung 85QN800A for daytime watching and gaming. Haven't settled on a projector yet and still have to decide whether we're going to have the screen drop down from the ceiling or pop-up From Below. But I was questioning getting a signal to both sources and this AVR may have just solved that dilemma.

    • @DGPG35
      @DGPG35 2 роки тому +5

      Keep in mind that while the dual HDMI outputs on the 6050/6100 are both HDMI 2.1 the moment an active HDMI 2.0 display is connected to either output you are then limited to HDMI 2.0. In other words you cannot have HDMI 2.1 and HDMI 2.0 displays connected (active at the same time) but still get the 2.1 feature set (you'll be limited to the HDMI 2.0 18g bandwidth). If you require a device that can handle mixed HDMI 2.1/2.0 connections look into the HDFury VRROOM, it's up for pre-order and starts shipping in less than two weeks. Now obviously if both displays end up being HDMI 2.1 (40-48g bandwidth) then you would not have this concern (or if only one display is active at a time, as would be with a screen dropping in front of the TV).

      @@DGPG35 😊 Thanks, while I haven't settled on the projector yet, the TV is a 85QN800A. The Samsung LSP9 projector is the leading contender.
      There's a multitude of reasons why, but the main one is so that my wife doesn't have to try and figure out multiple operating systems.
      We have a Samsung 65mu800 upstairs in the master, a 55Q60A in her gym, and a 75QN90A in the living room. The less confusing it is for her the better. Similar remote layout and operating systems means I don't get called into each room to turn on and off the TV for her.
      But because she is highly unlikely to ever turn on the projector without me in the room I have been considering going with a different brand. The Hisense 120L9G seems like a pretty good unit as well. Nice that it comes with its own screen but with my particular home theater setup, that's not really beneficial as we need a retractable screen for daytime viewing. And I do not believe you can use that screen in a retractable system?? In any case I do believe both of these options are 2.1 compatible, which should alleviate this potential issue. But thanks for the heads up, I certainly wouldn't have known that beforehand.

    • @The-Merchandise
      @The-Merchandise 2 роки тому

      @@DGPG35 This will be my setup as my Sony TV is 2.1 but BenQ projector is 2.0. So as long as I only turn on one ‘display’ (output) I don’t need to unplug the other do I? Don’t really want to have to be unplugging and replugging HDMI connectors all the time.

    I've loved Onkyo stuff for years. I was introduced to the brand in the 90's and have run them for shop stereo's and in my A/V racks for years. I appreciate Onkyo's power to drive multiple power hungry speakers, and I do agree that they need extra cooling in order to survive. I've run 8 ohm and even 4 ohm speakers successfully. Not recommended but it's worked for me. I also feel that Onkyo is so much more user friendly than the high end Yamaha's I've been forced to install by Home integration specialists as of late. Yamaha's are technically very very solid, but their interfaces and operation is clunky as hell. Thanks again for the review. I'm going to go grab one and retire my expensive yamaha to the Shop where I drive really big speakers. This is my experience. Others may certainly have had a different experience.

So many communities and reviewers are litterd with CEC switching bugs, random black screens, etc. I finally had to pull my Shield out of it and use ARC through my TV to finally alleviate my Blackscreens. I have been trying to use this receiver as a pre-amp and set the line out to Zone 2. The problem is the gain on the RCA outputs is fixed and doesn't change with the volume on the remote. The Onkyo TX-NR5100 allows you set the gain to variable or fixed on the output. I called Onkyo and the support person made the excuse that this is a premium feature that probably isn't included. But why would a lower model include it. I asked if they could fix this with a firmware update, we'll see, he said he would pass along the concern.

    I've been waiting for Costco to get these back in since I watched this at the beginning of the month. They only have the Yamaha with the infamous chip issue, with no information to confirm that an update has been made on the new ones. I think I heard they put a simplistic Texas instruments chip in the new ones, but who cares when you can get one like this ONKYO. This is the brand I grew up on. My mom still has her 1985 Onkyo receiver, and equalizer. I am really interested to find out what her speakers are now. I know the woofers are 15 inch, but that's it. I may just have to get the non Costco model for more, since maybe Onkyo was just using Costco to get their name out again after the bankruptcy rumors. I hear they have excellent English speaking customer service and will help you with receivers way out of warranty. I know you guys are great at replying, is this still the best one in this price range?

When pairing it leave the paired device right next to or touching it because it's that bad. It just dosen't see it unless your right up on it and don't even think of walking more then 2 feet away from the receiver or you'll loose bluetooth have to leave the device next to it for it to stay connected..I've had it for about 2 months now and fan has yet to come on so it runs pretty cool but again I leave my reciever and amplifier and center channel and Xbox out on the top of TV entertainment center. No other AVR comes close at this price point, $399 on sale. The NR6050 has all the connections you would need for a HT set up. The power is decent for the price but if you like a lot of power this may not be for you. Dont get too excited about hooking up your Klipsch speakers for auto crossover setting because the speaker selection is limited. A nice upgrade would be if they had this option for other brand speakers.

      Thanks for watching! Yep you would do this using eARC, but the quality of your experience really depends on how well ARC/eARC is implemented in your TV and how that plays with the eARC of the Onkyo. Mine is arriving today! One of reasons why I like this better is the software integration and ability to use chromecast integrated instead of via TV. Overall SW seems to be better with great overall specs. Cant believe the new Marantz and Denon set up menus still look like they were 10+ years ago. Replacing my 8 year old Marantz which is now quite a bit outdated. One question on the zone2.... can I easily switch this? Meaning when I want to listen outdoors I dont need my atmos speakers anyways. Or is this even automatically happening? Or do I need to do config every time? This receiver has 9 speaker connections vs the denon has 7 which means I would not have to re-pug in case I want to change to zone 2 use e.g. for a party outside. No one seems to talk about the 9 speaker connections vs 7 in others. Assuming this happens automatically (only lose atmos speakers when zone 2 is turned on) having true separate zone 2 is also big pro on the Onkyo vs the Denon.

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks for watching! You can switch into Zone 2 by using the Zone 2 button on the front of the AVR or by holding the Zone 2 SHIFT button on the remote while also pressing the power button. Yeah we really like the fact that it has 9 sets of binding posts, with the Denon you would have to unplug your height or rear surround channels and plug your Zone 2 speakers in those connectors if you wanted to use the Zone 2 speakers. With this, your height channels still get disabled (so only up to 7 channels are powered at a time) but it's just a simple software switch to use the Zone 2 speakers. Hope this helps :)

Right now I have a Roku with Spotify playing into my Pioneer AV receiver and the quality is terrible, really compressed and dull sounding. Hoping this will improve it. You know man , I just finished upgrading my avr and speakers . I bought Fluance Signature Series 5.0 plus 2 Fluance 10 inch subs , first tried using my old 5.1 Yamaha RX-V383 avr and as I thought not enough power for music but half-ass for movies . So I bought a Denon 540BT 5.1 AVR and wasted my money buying the 540BT because it was about the same as my Yamaha in power . So then I bought a Denon X2700H 7.2 AVR pushing 95 watts per channel at 8 ohms , slick little lies about power ratings from all avr manufacturer's I'm thinking . I had about 440 bucks in the 540BT and almost 1000 bucks in the X2700H still with a power issue for music . I bought an Outlaw 5000 5 channel with 120 watts at 8 ohms all 5 channels driven , finally a little truth about power . So I then found that I couldn't hook my new amp to my X2700H due to no pre outs on the back of my supposedly entry level avr . Not high end enough so I had to buy 3 russound adapters and then I was finally able to get good power for my music and movies . My shit sounds good now or at least I'm satisfied with the results . My point is that these companies that make the avr's or at least some of them just flat out lie about their power rating claims or use deceitful practices in advertising . Unless you happen to be a electrical engineer which I'm not most people or at least some will sucked into this money pit trap trying to upgrade their systems . That's why I honestly doubt that the claims you make about the power of the 6050 Onkyo are true . Looking at your gear which looks fairly mid to high end I don't believe you can drive your speakers with that avr . I went about 2200 bucks over what I originally wanted to spend believing the crap about ratings . I honestly think you cannot drive your speakers without adding a true amplifier to kick your 6050 in the ass to get good quality sound like I had to . Don't get me wrong now I like my results , it's just the bullshit way I went to get those results was very wrong in my opinion . I was in too deep in money where my only option was to keep spending witch I did because of deceitful practices of avr manufacturer's . So once again I dispute your claim of good power unless you added an external amplifier as false . Just my humble opinion .

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  2 роки тому +1

      We have no reason to be dishonest about our findings and what we heard using any of the receivers that we've tested on our channel, including this one. We purchase all of these receivers with our own money and stand to gain nothing by making false claims. We have no affiliation with the manufacturers or Costco, and we did not add any external amplification to this AVR, using speaker level to line level adapters or otherwise, and doing so without disclosing it would be incredibly dishonest. Not something we do here on our channel.
      The gear that we featured in this video is fairly pedestrian in the grand scheme of things - we think the speakers sound great, but they are somewhat difficult to drive as we mentioned in the video. We typically use an AV processor with separate Marantz monoblocks in our living room, and that was our baseline to determine how this receiver sounds to us. And, to be quite honest, there wasn't much of a difference in sound quality in our room unless we pushed the receiver to reference levels - which we don't even do with our main system because it's just way too loud.
      With that said, there's a reason we chose to use this receiver in our living room theater rather than our main theater room with all Vandersteen speakers and dedicated Emotiva amplifiers for each channel - it just wouldn't keep up. We wouldn't be able to say anything good about the receiver because it's on a completely different level - it would sound so bad compared to the setup that we run in our main theater. Everything in sound is both relative and subjective.
      Manufacturers have fudged their numbers in the past - and that kind of behaviour leads to distrust in the industry which is completely founded in truth. That's why reviewers exist - to regulate the industry and call companies out on their B.S. while also offering accurate accounts of their experiences with a certain product. We don't hold things against companies because they can always try to make changes in their products, and that's why we're happy to say that we had a good experience with this receiver. Have you personally had a chance to listen to the Onkyo TX-NR6050? Especially before providing your own unfounded opinion on the product and, by extension, our channel?
      You're welcome to believe whatever you want, but there are a lot of factors that come into play when reviewing these products. Unfortunately, we think that your case is a perfect example of not doing your homework before purchasing, and buying multiple receivers and hacky speaker level to RCA adapters isn't something we'd recommend. We always recommend, if budget allows, to purchase a receiver with pre-outs, but of course, if that's not within your budget, then that's where receivers like this come in. But, again, you're completely entitled to your own opinion. If you don't believe us, that's fine - but take a moment to check out the AVS Forum thread on this AVR, as well as the rest of our comments section on this video, and see what others are saying about this AVR.
