  • Building our bed in our diy sprinter van conversion! The bed is custom memory foam (which actually was a decent price, ~$450) and is slightly larger than a queen size bed. We bought it from a local company in Southern California which made it a fun process.
It was initially planned that the bed would be able to convert to a couch/seat which is why we made it using two different sized cushions. Well the initial idea didn't pan out very well because we ultimately needed this adventure van to have more storage! So now it is just permanently a bed... but it is one comfortable bed!!!
Goes to show that if you want to do it yourself when it comes to getting a memory foam bed in your van conversion it is completely do-able... two noobs like us can do it after all!
Thanks for checking out this step of our DIY van build. Subscribe, like, and stay tuned for more van videos and other projects!

Very nice, glad you’re back. I always enjoyed watching your videos, I guess that’s why I’ve seen them all. I liked the back to school bus but I completely understand why you’ve gone this route. You seem to be a wonderful couple, keep the videos comin.

    Great job.
Totally joined you and going to go over your build videos often. We are not building from an empty Van.. should have.. would not be surprised with so many hidden this to fix
If we use any any of your ideas .. promise to GIVE UP CREDIT ;-)

I hope your build goes excellent! It is a lot of work but the reward is worth it. I would say that the overall build of the van is fairly common, just the finish/unique work is what you do to make it your own. Best of luck with making progress, enjoy the process 🙂

I YOUR design the foot of the bed detaches from the bed and is lowered to form a couch? This is a great Hack-able idea. I followed the Back to School.

+Norris Coleman Thank you! I think it could have been a great design if I spent a little more time designing and building it... but I rushed and didn't want to spend to much money. All in all, very happy with the way it turned out! I really appreciate you following along with Back to School Bus, I hope you follow our new channel (this one, BearsBuilds) as this is what we will continue with moving forward. Cheers! -Bjorn

Is this the true width And dimensions of a queen Bed? I’m trying to buy a van around this size and wondering if my queen mattress would fit in it as an interim solution before I can travel the van across the country and then make a more flexible solution like yours😊😊 but right now I can’t really find the answer on if one might fit because Idk rough dimensions of inside these vans😅

It will depend on your build. The bed was custom memory foam which cost a total of $400 or so. The actual dimensions were slightly bigger than a queen size. The walls bow out slightly so about midway between the wall and ceiling is the widest point. You’d probably be able to get the bed to fit regardless really. Best of luck with it!!!!
