- The tenth installment of my 5000 mile solo road trip to the Balkans on board the mighty BMW R1250 GS Adventure.
In this episode, the selfish rant continues as I escape Split and head for the Bosnian Border.

I always get ranty if I feel I've had my pants pulled down and to be fair the hotel did sound a bit shit. I am really loving this trip, it's great to see it 'warts and all'.

I wish I'd done something like this. 4yrs ago I got diagnosed with MS. Last year I had to sell the bike and won't be able to ride again. I was 40 last year and had a bike since 20ish. Currently deciding if I can even drive my car now. Life really does test you sometimes mate. Chin up Barron.

I took almost the same route when I went from Munich to (my home country) Bosnia last summer on my SV650 and it is really delightful to see that you have the same experiences as I did. I love the series and I am so looking forward to the Bosnia part! Cheers!

This almost feels like a return to the first videos I watched that got me hooked on you channel Chris… Except it was obviously never 37 deg in Roehampton! 😂 The honesty is actually really refreshing in todays world of perfectly polished turds that social media would have us believe is the norm. Life doesn’t go perfectly (if it did it would probably get pretty dull and boring) but it’s the trials, challenges and the low points that make the highs seem that much better!… Dealing with issues of anxiety with someone in my family at the moment, I’m really enjoying watching you take on and beat your personal challenges through this series. Looking forward to the rest of it! 👍

This is one of UA-cam's best videos yet because its so real. The best bit is I am off to Bosnia later this year via Split (ferry from Italy) on a GSA.....This will be on my mind.

I went on a 4 day tour whilst I was lucky enough to have a week off between jobs. After watching these videos I relate so much, my mood was so up/down throughout the trip and I found myself often trying to ruin my own trip, really odd, I felt guilty enjoying myself 😅

I went to split last September and stayed in a splendid Airbnb for half the money. The town is amazingly beautiful with a lot of historic places to visit and even beautiful beaches. Had a great time there.
I love this channel. Just good to hear stories. Also the London driving is good. I miss London.
Mouth Job. Glad to see youre progressing in your travels Chris, moaning or not moaning, loving the views from my screen, dont knock yourself too much mate, doing what you've done is a huge deal. I wouldnt have the balls to do such a trip, especially solo and without pre-booking everything! Looking forward to next episode.

What a journey that episode was!
From the frustrations of urban wankdom to the space and 'F*** you all'-ness of that long shlong of an open road, it was the perfect depiction of what a ride can do for us and escaping the crap in our heads and our lives.

One of the best holidays I had was biking around France. Made sure to avoid all big towns/cities and stay in little remote places, which was fantastic. Then decided to 'treat ourself' and stay in Dijon in a nice hotel. Was absolutely shite and put a damper on the rest of the trip.

It's ok & you do meet people as you go , but it can get a bit lonely when it seems like everyone else is in a group or coupled up.
Find the local Irish pub & there will always be someone to hang out with.

I was in Como in July on my bike trip from Scotland, it was 37 degrees, I couldn’t handle the heat and after one day headed to Austria to escape the heat 🥵

Went to a bit of therapy last year (would recommend to all), one of the most important things my therapist said when I was belittling / playing down my feelings was "but that's the way you feel". It wasn't just what she said, it was how she said it.
You had a shitty day and had a rant, we feel how we feel and sometimes it's good to let off steam verbally. I fucking love a good rant personally!
The whole thing is an adventure, good and bad your making memories either way.
Chris, chill out, we do trips, our saying when we arrive at every destination is "COLD BEER" in a very deep loud voice, every body laughs. Good videos, keep on trucking.

A jam side down kinda day mate... that's all...we all have them! When you go back try the Meridian Lav Hotel, I stayed there a couple of times ...its right on the water nice big airy rooms, proper bar and a decent bit of scoff.
Hotel prices during the summer of 2022 were absolutely insane! Places like Croatia and Greece used to be inexpensive but now you can have a cheaper Vacation in South of France or Italy. One of the youtubers posted a video of the Greek Island prices (hotels, restaurants, beach bars), it is sickening. Traveling used to be fun, but not anymore. Airports are packed, planes are packed, service is terrible everywhere you go. If you pay the $ and get a decent place and pleasant service it is one thing, but nowadays you get screwed on both ends.

I feel like you so much! I cant enjoy things because off all this annoying shit. Your mood is my mood 24/7. I want to do a trip like this but i cant relax and just life in the moment. I would be like this the whole time.. I hate that.
But on a positive note, i like this series. And love the ups and downs. Its like i am doing the trip.
Laughed real hard at all the traffic light swearing. Strangely though, I’m left wanting a ‘mouth job’ after watching.
Also I watched while taking a sh*t and came to the conclusion there’s no toilet paper in here. Happy days.

If you paid for the crap Hotel room on your credit card, initiate a charge back on it and let the credit card company fight it out for you.
Even if you don’t get a full refund, the Hotel gets a bit of grief and it’ll hopefully make them realize they can’t have people over without consequence.

Chris, I’m sure we all appreciate the ‘warts and all’ production and as reminder that we all have shitty days. However when these situations happen to me I just try to remember how lucky I am. Rather than focussing on your problems if you try to reframe your perspective a little, it can help a lot to your mental state. You’re probably in the top 2% of earners globally, tall white male (and still with hair!) with lots of opportunities, and yesterday you rode an absolutely stunning coastal road.. etc etc. Some people have such bad anxiety they’ll never have the courage to swing a leg over a bike let alone ride abroad. I’m not having a dig as we’ve all been there on a shitty day- just try to remember you’re a whole lot luckier than someone working a 20 hour day in an Indian sweatshop for example. Next time give it a try and I hope your problems seem a little bit smaller. It works for me. Chin up!

Did you read the reviews of the hotel?
Perhaps that would have given you a hint as what to expect.
Split is a large town, and can vary a lot.
Plus, it's Summer, high tourist season, so one can expect some of that shit.
Gets pretty crowded during Summer, no doubt.
You should give it another chance, at a different hotel, and maybe during "shoulder" season too.
The Riva or the seafront has some nice restaurants for snacks, and good food, plus the walk there is pleasant.
we paid like 650 euros in porec for a three room appartment for 8 nights. nothing out of the extraordinary, lovely terrace too and a fireplace for everyone to use.

Sometimes having a good rant to ones self is very cathartic. When I split up with my ex I filmed a few vids whilst driving to and from work (weirdly, it started out as a rant about the utter shit that was the GoPro8).
Better out than in. Chuck a few spoons out and let the good ones rattle around 👍🏻
