I believe there are players who play the game just to answer questions in the help channels... that's their passion, and there are quite a few of them.
I am a newer player and I can admit to learning a TON of systems via ChatGPT alone. I have never once used the in-game help channels and I've never asked a single question to my corp. I have been able to ask for fitting advice and it provides actual fits that I can copy into the fitting window. I have also been able to paste pyfa screenshots and it is able to interpret the results and make fitting adjustments based on the pyfa numbers. I have asked for interface questions like how to abandon my wrecks so my alt can salvage them. I have asked for help adjusting my scanning probes to scan down a site that I didn't have the scan strength to finish with the normal probe layout. I have asked questions about making new keybindings to make activating modules easier. I've asked for help about which skills to prioritize in order to maximize Tengu dps. These are just some examples, but ChatGPT has been the single best resource I've had in learning how this game works.
That is indeed crazy... If it can really help in learning the basics, that's a good starting step to actually start learning the more... intricate details of the game. Fits, skills and UI settings aside, there's plenty of strategy, mind games and pure hard logistics setup I feel like the AI would really struggle with.
The biggest issue is detailed information being out of date (i'm assuming out of date and not just wrong). I've used ChatGPT for strategy, tactics, and game mechanics questions but I've had challenges when asking about fitting help. I'd get responses with deprecated modules or with the wrong number of high/mid/low slots. These are easy enough to "fix" but you have to be aware of the issue. If you treat it like asking into the forums and getting a response back, without the filtering of other-player-feedback to correct things, it's pretty good. The training data was likely 20% wrong with limited corrections so you get that in the output.
Why doesn’t CCP use more AI to make EVE Online even smarter cooler? Aurora is kind of an AI in EVE to help out with different things ingame. She’s basically an NPC that shows up during events or tutorials. Aurora helps new players understand the game and guides them ... but Aurora isn’t a super advanced AI, she could be the start of something bigger, maybe leading to more AI features that could make the game even more exciting for us to play and for new player to step in

And while part of it is genuine human interaction, I seriously doubt it would be capable of answering more specific, specialized questions. EVE is a wonderful game exactly because of it's complexity, that simple, logical answers just can't cover. Especially the mind games aspect... oh, the mind games... Most questions in help channels are quite rudimentary. People just get disoriented and can't even find the fitting window. Also - the fitting advice is impressively good... But you're totally right about the gameplay advice - lots of tricks/strategies I can think of that it would really struggle with. Good luck having the AI help you with estimating an opponent's fit, and subsequently the best approach to win the fight, for example...
Taking what ChatGPT says about anything at face value is ridiculous, and I can't stand how uncritically people treat it. It doesn't know anything. It will readily make up bullshit. And it's trained on (and therefore relies on) traditional text media like forums, Reddit, etc., so there is no way that it will ever fully replace them.
