    This was the ONLY video that explained the work required to do this properly. Some steps were left out, but easily overcome. Thank you!

    Hi David, from your video I saw you had the wing raised to remove it, just wondering if you lowered the mechanism in order to install the new wing, I am installing a fixed Misha duck tail.
    Thanks

    • @daviddwane1771
      @daviddwane1771  Рік тому

      I did lower it when installed my wing but it doesn’t really matter as it can be up or down in mine. I would guess if you can’t install your wing with the mechanism up you will need to disable it.

    Hi David, I get you on that part. What I don't understand is at 3:43 seconds into video you show in your hand the torx screw going through a small plate of some kind. When you pull the torx screw through the little hole, what happens to that plate? What keeps it from falling into the wing? There is no way that fits through the hole the torx screw comes through. Sorry if the question is dumb.

    • @daviddwane1771
      @daviddwane1771  8 років тому

      They are held in the wing by plastic slots. You will get at them when you pull the wing apart.

    • @loganjames399
      @loganjames399 6 років тому

      You only need to loosen them to get the cover off. Don’t completely unscrew the bolt.

  • @WarrenLee-cw5dj
    @WarrenLee-cw5dj Рік тому

    David you retracted it with the switch and then unplugged it?

    • @daviddwane1771
      @daviddwane1771  Рік тому

      No I didn’t unplug it. The posts go up and down as normal it’s just that they do it inside the new wing. Like I said on my wing the posts don’t interfere. It’s one of the reasons I chose this wing.

    Hi David I am putting on a Misha fixed duck tail, does the raising mechanism need to be lowered if so how? just want to know before I get started. thanks

    • @daviddwane1771
      @daviddwane1771  Рік тому

      Hey, I know with my wing it was designed to be able to have the mechanism rise with no obstruction, I’m not sure about yours so I didn’t need to do anything re the mechanism. I think you can disable the mechanism but I think you may get a warning light which I’m sure there’s a way around. I think you can also raise the speed at which the mechanism comes up. Not sure if you could set it high enough to never be an issue.

    Once you installed the fixed wing, how did you manage to turn off the warning on your dashboard?
    Thank you for your help.

      With the specific wing that I have, the posts that move the retractable wing can still go up and down inside my fixed wing so in a sense the car doesn't "know' that I have a fixed wing. I think that a dealer can set the car to "fixed wing" so the light won't come on.

      David Dwane Thanks for responding back to me.
      I have a Cabriolet 997. Went to the manufacturers website but couldn’t find one on a convertible.
      Have you ever seen the Darus wing on a Cabriolet?

      I haven’t but I think the retractable wings are the same so I think it should fit. Would be good to check to be sure.

    Hi, I had my Porsche 911 996 taken to a body shop to have the mounted. I showed your video to the shop guy because he had never replaced one before, although he had worked on Porsche's before. He said that he found it very useful because although he had written instructions. He installed the new fixed wing and completely removed the retractable one, which I'm keeping with all the original parts which all in great condition because this one owner 2001 only has 34k miles on it and was garage kept. I'm planning to keep it a 8 years and give it to my daughter after she graduates from college but I wanted to update it and keep the original parts in case she changes her mind and doesn't want to keep it, then we might sell with all parts included. I have one question though, the shop guy didn't want to mess with the dashboard wing active light. Do you know how to make it turn off. He couldn't figure it out despite having the instructions and having that light on is annoying.

      Wilfredo Soto one of the great things about this wing is that the posts that move the retractable wing up and down can be left alone when you install the new wing. They have room to safely move up and down inside the wing. I didn't take any of the motor or other components off just the actual retractable wing. In a way my car doesn't know that the retractable wing is gone so I did not have to change anything in the computer and I have no warning lights that come on. Have you seen my other video "installing a fixed wing"? I have heard that you can take it to a Porsche dealership and have it reprogrammed for a fixed wing to solve your problem. I hope this helps.

    How did you get the 4 torx screws with the little plate the torx goes through, through the small access holes? Thanks

    • @daviddwane1771
      @daviddwane1771  8 років тому

      I had a bit holder for my drill/screwdriver that also fit my torx that was long enough to reach into the holes. You can also buy long torx wrenches (like allen keys) that will reach.

    Hi David
    Maybe you can help. I have a fault on my auxiliary stop light and i need to remove the rear center panel for locating the problem. But how do I remove the rear center panel on my 997. can you give me some tips and tricks ?Best regards Christian from Denmark

    • @daviddwane1771
      @daviddwane1771  6 років тому

      chbcapernow it has been a while but if I remember correctly you need to pop the wing up then remove the circular plugs that go across the back. You will then find torxs bolts that you need to unscrew. You should then be able to pull the wing in two halves exposing the light and wiring. I really don’t know much more than is in this video. Hope that helps.

      Hej David
      And thank you for your Answer, but my problem is the stop light behind the spoiler. My question is - How do I remove the panel between the back window and the spoiler. I can see 3 bolt, but there must be some extra hidden somewhere.

    • @daviddwane1771

    What is the fan for?

    • @daviddwane1771
      @daviddwane1771  7 років тому +1

      To circulate air around the engine. Most cars have a fan in the rad and an open grill to get air flow. With the engine in the back, no open grill thus a fan to get air to the engine.
