    Very helpful video. Many thanks. I liked the way the camera followed you to each of the screws and clips in real time. It left no mysteries and has given me the confidence to remove the bumper on my 2012 Carrera 4 GTS. My aim is to paint the black valence along the lower part of the bumper to match the body colour. The exorbitant quotes I had for this painting put me off the idea, but now I will be able to take the bumper to a car painter and have it done for an affordable price thanks to your video and clear explanations.

    Those screws above the wheels are really Mr Impossible. Took now forever. I’m shivering at the idea of putting them back on. Probably will need to remove the wheel

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes they are a pain in the back side to get at with the wheels on. I would think you could jack the car and it would drop the wheel down a bit and grant you more access to the screws.

    • @bimbettocavallo
      @bimbettocavallo 3 місяці тому

      I did finally put it back together and those screws were indeed a pain. Even if you jack the car, it takes a long time before you hit the right alignment.
      The two things that make it difficult:
      1. The bumper lip which covers more than half of the screw
      2. The screw itself is not aligned with the curvature of the wheel arch, but rather vertical instead. The angle is completely counterintuitive
      Anyway, all good. Hope I won’t have to do it again soon

    Don’t scratch your car. When I am finished with a tool I put it down so not to damage the paint. It only takes a few seconds to pick the tool up when needed. It takes weeks to get the scratch repaired.

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  2 роки тому

      Thanks for watching the video as well as the kind feedback. I purchased the torx bits at harbor freight. They are cheap and I use them infrequently so I didn’t want to spend much on them but they have held up very well so far. The hand held speed ratchet is from a set of sockets I bought 20 years ago. They are from a set called metwrench. The sockets are sort of elliptical on the walls of the sockets and they can fit both standard and metric. Those sockets have help up really well. Hope it helps.

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  4 роки тому +1

      I do not. Did you have the ignition switched to the on position or start the car with the back up lights unplugged? Also are both of the back up lights turning on? I think the back up lights are in the taillights so it could be a burned out bulb. If that doesn’t work, maybe try a scan tool and erase the code. Sorry this happened to you.

    I didn't see if your car has the backup sensors, and if so how did you unplug that connection? I too have a 2011 997.2 C2S w/ PSE, and I've a cargraphic center bypass I had installed in 2017, and am looking forward to deleting the side mufflers and coming straight out of the bypass to the tips. How do you like your exhaust sound/note/drone now?

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  3 роки тому

      Arne D The car does not have the back up sensors. I have the factory PSE so I’m not quite sure how the straight exhaust would sound. I was tempted to start the car without the mufflers on just to see what it sounds like but was afraid that if I did, I would throw some weird engine codes. If you don’t mind make a before and after video if you do change your exhaust. I’d love to hear it. Thanks for commenting and subscribing.

    • @arned2493
      @arned2493 3 роки тому

      @@didifixthat7910 Thank you for the quick feedback. My suspicion is no code would be generated; the CATs are on the header assemblies (before the center muffler/bypass), but I guess I will find out if/when I get around to doing it.
      fabspeed sells the straight pipes coming off the bypass, and they don't make any mention of codes being generated in doing this mod (these outfits usually warn you in case it will generate some code). I will plan on making a video of it.
      The cargraphic bypass made a noticeable difference and I retained the function of the PSE, but that won't be the case if I delete the side mufflers. I have the turbo wheels, like you do on yours, and also the clear taillights. Mine is meteor gray w/ camel leather interior. Yours is a very nice exterior color; what is that?

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  3 роки тому

      Arne D Yes I agree if you keep the cats on and the O2 sensors plugged in I think you would be ok. Thanks for the compliment on the car. The exterior color is called Platinum Silver Metallic. Per the window sticker it was a $710 up charge. I have a standard black interior and a pdk transmission. Really fun car and surprisingly easy to work on. I was a bit anxious about getting the car and service costs but so far so good. Nice to connect with you. Enjoy the ride.

    Ever thought of removing the bumperettes ?

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  2 роки тому

      Funny you mention that. I actually bought a plastic panel I was going to use to block off the area behind the license plate and bumperette area. I took the bumper off and the. Discovered that underneath the bumperettes there are structural metal reinforcements. I thought that they are there for a reason, crash protection of the engine, so I elected not to remove them. I do think it would look so much better without them. Oh well.

    • @Francois997.2
      @Francois997.2 2 роки тому

      @@didifixthat7910 No You can take them out, only the US has these ugly bumperettes. I am not sure how the plate would look like. My plan was to try to take the bumperettes off and to put them in from the back, so they don't stick out as much as they do now. Not much to find here on UA-cam and there is 1 post I think it was on Rennlist. I am really tempted to try this, but first I want to replace the engine mounts as that seems to give a great improvement. ( Mine has 78.000 miles on the clock )

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  2 роки тому

      @@Francois997.2 Yes the bumperettes come off the bumper cover in about 2 seconds. Just held in with some plastic tabs. The issue if you try to mount them so they don’t stick out as far is that they won’t completely fill up their respective mounting holes. That’s why I wanted to use a thin piece of plastic. I had some black plastic that is 1/8” thick. Once I removed the bumperettes, I would cut a piece that would go from bumperette to bumperette and I would have used the license plate to hold it in place. I think it would look good but I went for safety of the engine over aesthetics. I wish I didn’t value safety so much. Ha ha.
