i just turned 68. my car suffered similar damage, and was declared a repairable write off. I accepted the insurers payout, i also purchased the vehicle back from them, at a ridiculously low price. i spent a saturday filling ,sanding and sealing the dent repairs. had the roof wrapped, and the other small number of the dents on the bodywork professionaly repaired. the result was that i kept the car and made a 8k profit.

No Fred, your only problem is low trust in yourself and very limiting beliefs. Any journey starts with a first step forward.
Here is a plan for you : find a repair shop, offer to be an apprentice there for a few hours a day for 2 weeks for free under the deal that once you can repair very minor damage they agree to pay you a set of basic PDR tools and one or two full courses.
All it takes for you is to find a shop that will give you a chance and you to be volunteering honestly and heartedly.

Looks great. Amazing how you did that. I was wondering is the steel thinner in modern cars versus like 1962? I used to own a 1962 Buick Electra 225 and I swear the metal was a much thicker gauge. It did not easily get any little dents, like from door dings. But todays cars it is so easy to dent them.

I remember sitting on the car hood, roof or trunk lid and never would leave a dent. The metal on cars in the 60's was a lot thicker. Since the metal was thicker, it didn't buckle up very much when in an accident. The metal on cars became thinner in the 70's due to the gas shortage so the cars would get better gas mileage. The metal on cars today is paper thin, anything will dent a car. This guy is amazing in removing dents. He did a fantastic job on that suv

Are some vehicles less likely to be repairable due to things like metal thickness? Why do so many cars with hail damage get totaled out by insurance companies when this is possible? Convertible, so no roof to worry about, and it's a solstice (2 seater) so very small. If I were to get a few hundo in tools, what would you recommend? It's really hard to say without seeing where the dents are located . You definitely need glue and a light. The dent hog is a great tool because it breaks down into several different sizes but it’s for more open areas hoods, roofs.. If your fixing dents on the side of the car you need a different style in tools made for doors.

This is insane! I got about a dozen dents from some hail the other day and been teaching myself to use the little kit from Amazon. Good to know if I get caught in a forreal hailstorm it's still possible to fix.
