I love Perch fishing i did it commercially for a few years, catch them big black belly slabs in late fall winter months when the storms off shore stir up everthing and create new holes. Some of these guys that post their "Perch fishing " skills are usually fishing in the March to late June when the females come in to lay eggs. Catching them isnt any challenge and it wipes out the next years fishing. Cool video thanks for posting.
One solution is take the fillets and soak in milk , salt and black pepper and soak for 24 hrs . Black pepper neutralizes funky perch skin smells . Then use the fillets like rock fish. Italian herb panko made by Progresso is pretty darn good on these.
Nice to see a surf fishing video again. Don't get me wrong, the kayak vids are great but where I am job-wise I can only fit weekend surf fishing into my schedule. It's good to see action right now for what I'm aspiring to.
A fine video with good drone footage!! You appeared to be fishing in an local where there was a deep drop off along that entire beach; plus a local rip. A very exceptional beach (high tide too) to see a "single" breaker/wave beach. Except where the S Cruz Surfcaster fishes. With that sort of beach you can cast short and don't need to wad out waist deep to get where the fish are; Calissa/Flash Minnow territory?. With that sort of calm/deep water it's very likely good halibut territory. A very informative video and it's enjoyable to see you on shore again.
Awesome job you know how to find those fish those were slabs great to see you out on the beach I got to get out there this fall good luck with your 20 pound lingcod now is the time for those big ones
@@ozgurbozkurt5945 you really don't need to cast beyond them. A lot of fish are caught within like 50feet from shore. If you want sharks then you will usually need to get out farther, but surf perch and corbina are close to shore
Now that I'm watching this I'm pretty sure I saw you this day. Went out with my boy and dog, sat and chilled 200ft or so to your left. It's been getting better down there for perch that's for sure.
In conditions like that I would be using a Carolina Rig.......1oz weight AT THE MOST.......3' florocarbon leader and 20# braid.........I also use a 10' ML Shimano Convergence Casting Rod Paired with an Abu Garcia Silver Maxx Reel.......
Many years ago there was actually a smaller species of pompano in these waters and it was commercially fished . Once in a rare moon one will be caught on a bait jig but its a true exotics to find one here these days. Yes excellent eating
I have been enjoying your videos, so thank you. I want to get out to the surf in your area for a while now, so could you tell me what the ideal condition out there would be, swell, tide, wind, etc.. much appreciated.
Always on point! Great video great fish. Surf fishing will definitely always have a place in my heart. It’s what a lot of us grew up on. Sick to see you back in the surf🤙🏽
Thanks for the inside info on surf fishing. I'll be heading out to the Sonoma Coast next week. How long is your surf rod? I think my biggest rod is 7 or 8 ft. Is that long enough?
I fish with a 6 ft. Trout pole, 10 lb. Line , # 2 hook with 1 oz. Slip sinker . light weight setup . I've caught lots of surf perch on Gulp sand worms . Cast an walk up and down the beach . Perch are in close, just a few yards out. Most people cast too far out.
@@SpamMusubi308 soak the fillets in milk, salt and black pepper for 24 hrs then treat like a rockfish fillet. Black pepper will neutralize the funky skin smells. Adam is right, barred perch are a way under rated fish for the dinner table.
Hi bro..am from the Island of Penang, Malaysia. I love watching your videos probably because the way you shoot and present them, nice contents, the way you speak..loved it. Good job. Normally I don't subscribe to any of the channels on UA-cam but I've just done that to yours. Keep it up!
Adam, ah yes origins, never forget where you came from. Kayaks are fine but the beach is for all. Note: the “Convergent” isn’t manufactured by Shimano any longer.
Any day I can learn something is a good day!! Crushers in the throat, OK, now I know!!! Nice fish! Are off-roaders allowed on the beach?? I can no longer walk but I have a Polaris SXS.
yes you do, except on piers and man made jetties like the ones made by army corps of engineers, i'm from San Diego, and i usually surf fish and bank fish off rocks and the south mission jetty

I agree with you 100% . Don't catch much barred perch up here but the redtail and pogys are delicious.

Catch and Cooks?
Hello, interesting way of catching fresh bait. What Rod do you use?

Best eating in Pacific surf, sure, why not. But the best tasting, period, is Pompano, a Gulf and South Atlantic species.

@@brianrainn6853 Thanks for the great tip.
People who say they're mushy don't know how to cook it!
So how do you cook them?
they just let the perch get to warm and the flesh gets very soft.
