How To Fix Damaged Hair - Treatment VS Conditioner - Hair Buddha tip

  • Many people ask me what is the difference between a conditioner and a treatment. One of the most critical parts of a healthy hair regimen are treatments and conditioners. They help improve and maintain the moisture-protein balance of our hair. A healthy balance helps improve elasticity, which, in turn, helps reduce breakage because the hair is more flexible rather than brittle.
There are two main types of treatments to choose between: protein and moisturizing. Both serve a purpose, but what is that purpose?

Woah! So informative. Ty. That explains why I get best hair from treating then adding conditioner after washing treating out. Right? One more question..... do hairdressers absolutely hate me for having long thic AF hair that takes 3 hours to cut wash and dry? Or is it my brilliant personality 🤔? I just became a member btw... loving ❤ your channel boo.

wow, I never understood the difference between hair treatments and conditioners. I always thought masks and treatments were just gimmicks to make more money. I have been enlightened 🤯 Thanks for explaining it so it actually makes sense. After discovering you channel and binge watching your videos, you have definitely earned the title of "Buddha" in my opinion. 🏆

So I watched this about 2 weeks ago. I thought my treatment was not working because my hair wasnt soft. Since doing treatment then conditioner my hair is actually shiny again! After damage from bleaching I never thought my hair would shine again. THANK YOU HAIR BUDDA!

Hair Buddha, I LOVE your detailed explanations of what happened and how to prevent a fail. You have answered so many questions I’ve had for years. Thank you! You recommended Blond Me for highlights instead of True Blue. Great to know. I have fine hair and would so appreciate knowing what mask or treatment to get. There are ton of products and would like to know the best one to get. I color my hair and have professional highlights done.
I think your advice and comments are invaluable. It important to me to hear what you have to say, please, keep talking! I have learned more from you than anyone else - you’re awesome! Keep the great advice coming!

@@hair-buddha hi! Even if it’s curly can we use protein treatments? My hair is long, very fine, I color it at home and used to be curly but has lost most of the curls now, would like to make it curly again! You mentioned vegan treatments, that’s awesome! Are there any brands you could recommend? Thanks so much!

@@LeticiaCuenca yes. If you’ve lost your curl pattern then you need protein to get it back. I use Pureology Strength Cure shampoo and conditioner it helps so much. It has protein but it’s very gentle on the hair.

I’m an olaplex devotee... My mom had been coloring her hair red for years but when she retired from work, she wanted to let it go white. We grew it out, bleached it twice, cut it, and did an olaplex treatment. The red didnt lift completely, but it was really satisfying

    • @TrinaGallo
      @TrinaGallo 26 днів тому

I can relate to your mom. But I use a semi-permanent color, so it just washes out. But I’m ready to go natural. And it may require bleach- and regular Olaplex treatments of course! 👵🏻 Because I’m NOT cutting it! 🤞🏻

Oh, that explains why the moisturizing shampoos never did something for me. I started using protein shampoo after I had a Keratin blowout once (it is long gone) and the hairdresser suggested it. My hair is looking way better than it ever was with all that expensive moisture stuff. I didn’t knew that I had to use the conditioner after the mask but it makes sense. So I will try that next time.
I will get one for my mom too who a very fine hair bc she bleached and did dye her hair all her life.

Hair Buddha has a name. 🙂 A lot Asians in Asia don't use a conditioner. They have it, but a lot people don't use it. When I went to the Philippines to visit my mother's family. I had to ask hairdresser if they had conditioner. Because they don't know how to treat Caucasian fine hair. True story.

  • @puggirl415
    @puggirl415 2 роки тому

I love your videos! As I listen and try to comprehend what you are saying I am confused. I have fine hair so you said protein not moisture. I have thick and curly/wavy hair so you say I need moisture. I haven’t used heat or color on my hair for 3 years. So what to choose? I think my hair is naturally high porosity and loses moisture between shampoos (wash every 4/5 days) so I use moisturizing products with the occasional protein treatment. Moisturizing conditioners can leave my hair too soft but it seems to go away after one day and my hair looks shiny and normal and nice curls. I keep doing this because hair is often a compromise. I think there is no easy solution for many people. Often you have to choose between not so great and a little bit better. I didn’t choose to have fine, thick sort of curly high, porosity hair. This is a type that means everything affects it: weather, styling, moisture, protein. Sometimes good sometimes bad. No easy solution. Just accept it and work with it on a daily basis. If you have this type of hair just joyfully accept the good hair days and be extra aware of what your hair needs on bad ones.

I have natural fine platinum blonde with very light honey blond under tones. My hair also is kinky wavy.
It grows very slow. I have done a lot of lightning and bright colors over the years.
It is of course dry, and it is always brittle no matter if I color it or not.
I'm about to go a copper blond with three different shades ranging from light honey blond to a medium copper blond.
I would love to hear what you would suggest for me to do. The treatment of needed before I color to the process of the coloring, and of course what you think I should treat it with after the color.
( You may ask why I color to begin with. I have never liked how washed out I look with both super light hair and translucent pale skin.
Copper is a very natural color on me as I was born with copper hair that fell out and grew back as almost white when I was a toddler. )
Please if you can let me in on your knowledge and opinion ! Heck I might even do a video for you to do reaction to . Lol

    Hi dear @hair-buddha,
You say you prefer vegan/natural products. I agree a lot.
However, why should I buy a product (especially a natural one) instead of using directly the natural ingredient like, I don't know ... Let's say cocon- ... Ahem I meant karite butter, aloe vera, etc ...
And by the way, since I use some for my skin, are natural oil totally ineffective on hair ? Because I see (in France) so many shampoos or hair products "with avocado/argan/coconut/whatever oil in it ...
And of course, thank you for your videos, they make my day like ... Every day ! So dankjewel ! ;)

First of all, I love your videos, your talent, your knowledge. Secondly, I have thick, wavy (frizz prone), bleach damaged and dry hair, so I need protein and moisture, from what I understood. Should I use protein in a treatment form, rinse it out and then use moisturizing mask/ conditioner after that? Thank you so much :)

@@aitroh03 nope. Maybe K18..moisturizing masks..but only a bit. I don't think anything can repair that damage besides cutting it

I thought my waist length hair was 2b but after 6-12 times using a keratin conditioner I lost what little waves I had and it is 2a now. Is this normal? Also, I’ve used moisturizing shampoo and conditioner all my life on my fine hair should be using protein or keratin instead? What is the difference between the two? Would love a video explaining it. Keep up the good work of clear information.

Keratin is protein-base. You can actually have a protein overload.

Is it ok to allow a conditioner or mask dry on your hair? Does added time with the conditioner or mask help or is there only so much your hair can absorb.
Can morrocan oil, argon oil or coconut oil be used to moisturize or treat dry or damaged hair?
Last question: Do you think Salley's stores should be illegal?

    • @hair-buddha

Yes, mask on dry hair is ok. Conditioner not. Adding time, yes... Oil is good for shine but not for restoring hair. No Sally's should not be closed.

Hi, I would like to lighten my hair from a level 2/3 to a level 4. How light should I go with bleach? Should I stop at red or yellow hair?
Then should I use a level 5 brown on top of that? In the past when I had lightened my hair it seemed to go right back to very dark.
    Thanks

I bleached my hair a couple of months ago and it is not feeling good. Very difficult to brush out after shower unless I use a TON of conditioner & leave it on for like 10 minutes.
The other day I used a protein treatment thinking it would help repair the damage but my hair came out even worse, with lots of breakage when I tried to brush through it. The next night I used a moisturizing treatment to try to combat the effects of the previous protein treatment and it felt a lot better after the shower (still not great, though).
Should I only ever use moisturizing conditioner/treatment and never protein? I thought protein repaired damage/built the cuticle back up but from your video (and my experience), it does not seem that that is the correct thing for bleached hair? Seems counterintuitive. But I'll just continue to use moisturizers for now b/c that's what allows me to brush through it and that's how I gauge the health of my hair, haha.

bleached hair need oils &moisture&elastine&keratine in balance and a lot of time to improve. Too much of keratine makes hair drier and moisture alone does not build up hair base.
Try elastine instead of keratine and more moisture and oils. Elastine makes hair less brittle than keratine.
6(moisture):6 oils:3 elastine:1 keratine ratio - either divided or mixed.
Buy online an elastine concentrate and mix a little bit of it into moisturising treatment.

I’m in my 60s and notice since change of life, hair is thin and breaking. I have been using olapleax for over a year and it’s getting worse. I am growing out layers to make it appear thicker, it’s shoulder length, but it is so thin from breakage. What shampoo is recommended for this? I use semi permanent hair color on roots only. Hair is brunette. There’s no highlights or anything. Is there also certain vitamins or anything I should take which can help? No underlying health conditions other than glaucoma. Thank you!

What are your thoughts on olaplex treatments? I haven't used any treatments in a long time, only just coloured my natural hair once a shade darker (not boxed dye). I hardly blow-dry my hair, which is fine wavy and can get a little frizzy at times, about average-medium thickness. I use sulfate free shampoo/conditioner.
