One of the best tracks in a stellar album! I love how the calm, eerie sections are suddenly broken by burst of heaviness, it shows how things are actually working in the mind of the young protagonist (in and out of the pills he's taking, in and out of the reality he despises). And the soundscapes provided by Robert Fripp only add to the darkness of the song. Interesting fact: the video for this track was dedicated to Arielle Daniel, a teenage American girl who was a fan of the band (and creator of their MySpace page) that died a couple of years prior to the release of this album. Her story (being killed by a train, together with a friend, in what was possibly an act of them trying to take their own lives) is also part of the lyrics (most likely the chorus).
Fear of a Blank Planet as a whole is a modern prog classic (although if you do want to listen to it in full, be aware that two of the remaining 3 tracks are ballads). Also, fun fact about this song: Robert Fripp of King Crimson actually provided soundscapes for it! An earlier PT song that I think you'd enjoy would be Dark Matter, genuinely one of Steven Wilson's best guitar solos in my opinion.
Ballads, but extremely strong tracks on their own. _My Ashes,_ especially, is super emotional and is a brilliant transition between the opener title track and _Anesthetize._
This song always gave me Tool vibes. Another PT song you can review is Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape. It's an instrumental that sounds a lot like Sorrow by Pink Floyd
Thanks OPH - and keep the PT and SW coming. I know you are likely sick of hearing this, but if ever there is a professional live video of PT or SW - that should be your first choice. They are invariable better than the studio versions. This song particularly - even if you dont do another reaction to it - do yourself a favour and watch/listen to this Live in Tilburg. Phenominal performance and so much MORE energy and passion than the studio.
new subscriber, here for the Steven Wilson, can you do a reaction video of SW's 12 Things I Forgot? is it prog? I don't know but it's a damn good song, as is Man Of The People. Cheers!
Live version sounds great too.

One of PT many excellent songs but a little surprised "Old Prog Head" U didn't go to Live Version?
Thank U anyhow for the reaction!
Yeah, I just always prefer studio on a first listen. Thanks for stopping by.
I'm definitely partial to the Tilburg performance over the studio. This is a damn dark song. Google!

PT song 'Russia on ice' would be good to react to live or studio.

you must react to to the live version - much much better.
Appreciate the suggestion, but I'm a "studio version first" kind of listener. Thanks for stopping by.
