One band that deserves more recognition is Hypnos 69. Also a classic sound. Their last album is proper prog. Try listening to the first track Requiem (for a dying creed). Another such band (however a bit more known thanks to its leader who plays now in Big Big Train) is Beardfish. You may start with the song called The Hunter

Omg, gonna second FXMLDR live with the Bluecoats. All solar powered, the Bluecoats, a DCI group, sampled their music that year, from their most recent full length album, so fun and so crisp. The song references aliens (FXMLDR is an abbreviation for Fox Mulder from X-Files) and these guys make it know that they dont take themselves seriously at all, despite being unbelievably talented. Something else to watch, maybe on your own, is their cover of "Party All the Time" by Eddie Murphy. Again, they DO NOT take themselves seriously. Thanks for the reactions, and hope you're enjoying listening to TYS! Edit: I feel it's important to note that this and your previous reaction was from their first ever album. They've released two full lengths since which are increasingly tighter as far as writing is concerned. Additionally, the lyrics are mostly positive (or ridiculous) in nature, but they're known to be purposefully ambiguous, so try not to dissect them too meticulously on a first listen! Thanks again!

I would recommend you to listen to The Last Human Gateway by IQ. Does seem to be rather Suppers Ready ish, but I love it.

Amazing song. The bridge with the syncopated drums and bass is sublime.

That was an outtake... For a while, some CDs would have "bonus" tracks and such... Like Marvel with scenes during the credits at the end.

In my opinion, this is a perfect album. It’s also my favorite album hands down. Everything about Frances the Mute is perfect.

I wouldn’t class IQ as modern. They keep getting better but have kept a signature sound throughout and stuck to their roots. Great band!

In addition to the excellent suggestions on here, I'd add Twelfth Night, This Winter Machine and Ghost of the Machine. I've seen IQ several times and they are a brilliant band.

New Prog? These guys have been around since ‘82. Pre-date Tool by a long way. The bands they probably get compared to most are Queensryche or Dream Theater. One of my favorite bands. Inside Out is a top five of all time for me.

I mean this in the nicest way because I love both bands and both these songs, but I realized lately than this is basically Haken's A Change of Seasons. Similar themes, similarly incredible music
