Two absolutely amazing songs by PT. Did you notice that the clapped rhythm in _Trains_ is reminiscent of the sound of the rails you hear when you're sitting aboard a train in motion.
The drummer, Gavin Harrison... The man's a Titan. The live version of "Hatesong" from the Arriving Somewhere DVD... I need to place a pillow over my lap if I listen to it around people.
Gavin really showed one percent of what he can do on drums on the hatesong live! Amazing performance and drumming makes me squeal on such decibels that isn't even audible to humans! Them rolls , ghost notes, everything is perfect on the hatesong live. Gavin Harrison really brings his magic in that one. But that being said every song is a masterpiece with gavin in it. Cheers!❤️
I love watching your reactions. Reminds me of how I felt the first time hearing Porcupine Tree. 2004 I was seeing Yes and walked in and there was an opening act and my first thought was, I hope they don't play long. I sat down 5th row center stage and began to be blown away by Porcupine Tree. Amazing, greatest opening act I ever saw. Next day I started my PT collection and made sure I saw them every chance I could.
I'm so glad I got to see these guys live a couple of times before they disbanded. Such an incredible live band. I love Steven Wilson's solo work but it's just not the same without the brilliant soundscapes of Richard Barbieri. He added so much atmosphere. His contribution to their sound can't be understated. I'm not really much for metal, but Porcupine Tree blends it in so artfully that it never seems like too much or over the top or out of place.
"Trains" is the perfect song. It has it all: the element of the catchy hook, soul-melting acoustic guitar, very effective counterbalance of stellar electric guitar, lyrical charm, harmonic resonance, nostalgia, even banjo and hand-clapping! No wonder that more than 50 musicians have posted their cover versions of this glorious tune to UA-cam. It is the quintessential pop song! Experiencing Kel 'n Rich experience Porcupine Tree is a joyous adventure. They are no longer P. Tree virgins! Kel 'n Rich are an awesome presence on UA-cam and they deserve the awesomeness of Porcupine Tree and other Steven Wilson creations, not the ridiculously repetitive and infinitely boring "A Whiter Shade Of Pale". Who in the world recommended that?! Hopefully we will never see them react to the abject nadir of rock 'n roll: "In A Gadda Da Vida". Yuck yuck yuck yuck yuck! What utter trash. It is nonmusic, sonic dissonance to the max. "Trains" and "Way Out Of Here" on the other hand. are stellar choices! "Trains" is such a fun song to sing, so I sing it often. The soundtrack of "Tommy", "Trains", and many Crowded House, Blackfield and P. Tree tunes, are always flowing in my head, and frequently from my vocal chords. They enhance existence quantumly! Long live Kel 'n Rich! Long live the mighty Tree and all the other masterworks of Grandmaster Wilson! And long live UA-cam for giving us such aural joy.
The whole Anesthetize live album played in sequence is a collective masterpiece and although you cannot feasibly react to it all, I highly encourage anyone with the time to listen to it and appreciate the story its telling, it has honestly changed music for me and as cliche as it sounds, my view on the modern world.
I discovered these guys 6 months ago thru youtube and had the same reaction. But I got to relive that with you two today. Thank you. During "Trains" I loved watching you both take turns enjoying the other experiencing the beauty of this song. And I'll tell you Rich - hold onto Kel tight, she really adores the shit out of you.
Love your reaction................... You are not listening this song................ You are INSIDE this song........... Its beautiful. PEACE my friends
You know there are so many love songs out there, and brilliant ones that have defined what a love song is, and should be about. However, every now and then you run across a song that has the right mix of elements to it, and what you get is triumphant distilled joy. Very... and I mean very few songs reach this level of epic grand sweeping beauty where it makes the human heart fill so full of joy that it is almost painful. And to quote the song, "I'm dying of love, and it's okay". Yes Mr. Wilson, it certainly is okay indeed.
I saw them live in Oberhausen last year. I legit cried and people around me got emotional and were completely overjoyed as well when trains started playing
#painintheask Thanks guys for shouting me out. I am so glad y'll loved it.... Next time do 1. Start of something beautiful 2. Cheating the polygraph (Live version) . Let the Porcupine Tree Wave Continue.
Just got into Porcupine Tree last week and decided to watch reaction videos for some of my first listen-throughs... I'm glad I picked you guys! Never seen any of your videos until tonight but I will continue to watch because you are so genuine! Nothing produced or forced, just natural reactions. Amazing songs and amazing video, you've got a new fan!
Porcupine Tree and Opeth are considered to be sister bands - you like one, chances are you'll love the other. Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree's frontman, even produced a couple of Opeth's albums such as Blackwater Park, Damnation(You've already reacted to Windowpane from that album) and Deliverance. Speaking of Opeth, you guys should check out The Drapery Falls or Dirge For November. Cheers!
Great reaction to a great band. Thank you for doing more Porcupine Tree. Their is so much great music from them for you to react to. You have only scratched the surface. I’ll be watching. Cheers!
Saw PT for the first time at the TLA in Philly on the In Absentia tour. I liked a few of their songs so figured I'd check 'em out live. It was one of the most amazing concerts I have ever experienced. I was an instant fan after that. Their live performance was absolutely stunning.
Ive suggested this before: Enchant. Like Porcupine Tree, their music transports you to another world. No one else will suggest them because they have a small cult following, but trust me, Just listen to them. The songs Pure and What To Say. the live versions of both. You will NOT be sorry!
Oh my... I think I have just found a new favourite "first listen to" channel. You two are just adorable couple :) What a pleasure to relive these memorable songs with you. Recommendations: Porcupine Tree - Hatesong LIVE (possibly the most energy packed and insane PT performance ever) Porcupine Tree - two last songs from In Absentia album: Strip The Soul and Collapse the Light into Earth, listen without pause. If that won't make your eyes wet at the end, i don't know what else will. Steven Wilson - Luminol LIVE
Some history about these two songs. Its pretty dark. Way out of Here is about a girl named Arrielle Daniels who committed suicide with her friend Heather Bates by stepping in front of an oncoming train back in 2005. She was a huge Porcupine Tree fan, she founded the band's Myspace group and had them playing on her ipod at the time of her death.
Ooooooooo when you flashed that band/song list at us I saw one of my top 10 favorite heavy metal songs of all time. I can’t wait 🤟🏼🤟🏼 I know Kel will love it!
After listening on "Porcupine Tree", I can say they are looking for perfection on every single track they recorded. The perfection does not exist on songs but they are very very close......By the way Kel-n-Rich made the perfect synergy as a couple to enjoy these song ever better . Thank you guys
My two favourite tracks from one of my favourite bands Steven's vocals and Gavin's drumming style make it shine but the rest of the band are great musicians
You guys HAVE to watch the live version of "Trains" in Chicago, you can find on it UA-cam. A lot of peoples favorite version. The video of "Way of out Here" that you guys watched is from from the bluray/dvd "Anesthetize" and it is amazing concert! My favorite PT bluray/dvd. The song Anesthetize is amazing on it, HIGHLY recommended!
Check out The Pineapple Thief also. They now sport the drummer from Porcupine Tree in the band . Tear it up Alone at sea In exile The final thing on my mind
Can't go wrong with PT live ... I have seen Steven live , but sadly missed PT . The drummer , Gavin Harrison, is now in a band called The Pineapple Thief. "In Exile" is a good song ( has a Radiohead vibe)..... I don't remember if I have suggested Katatonia " My Twin" or Björn Riis " Forever Comes To An End", so there you go....and of course, more Riverside 😜
That's the second of your 'First Reactions' i've watched; I may not need conventional porn in my life any more!! - you guys and PT, the perfect combination!
For many years - since first listening to "The Sky Moves Sideways", I have turned many people onto Porcupine Tree, and I ordinarily refer to the band as "wizards from another planet"..."metahuman"..."too good to be human", and similar phrases of praise. Often I also tell people that P. Tree's songs are "not just music, but a mystical experience." I worship at the foot of the mighty Tree. I live for their music! Wonderful to watch the lovable Kel 'n Rich discover some stellar tunes by the best band ever to grace the race. They, and all others with reaction channels, should begin a separate channel which is for PT only! One devoted exclusively to Blackfield and one for nothing but No-Man (two other brilliant groups featuring Steven Wilson) - and a channel for just Wilson's eponymic work - would likewise be tremendous!
Don’t know if you tried it before, but try Challenger Part I and part II from the album Departure Songs, by We Lost the Sea. I’d have those 2 played at my funeral....together roughly 33 minutes, but OMFG. Lovey how you two delve into this stuff, greets from the Netherlands.
These two PTree songs are great examples of the many times they/Wilson tap into the sublime......Steven Wilson might be a deity. I highly suggest you react to the official videos for two SWilson solo songs: “Drive Home” and “Routine”. These songs will move you.
They reacted to Drive Home already. Great reaction btw! But I do agree with "Routine" and also "The Raven That Refused To Sing". And both of those are are 10x better when listened to with the official animated videos made by Jess Cope. She is behind the amazing videos Drive Home , The Raven That Refused To Sing, Routine, and People Who Eat Darkness.
@@musicmademejester She also did the video for Storm Corrosion's Drag Ropes. For anyone who doesn't know Storm Corrosion was a collaboration between Steven Wilson and Mikael Ackerfeldt of Opeth.

Hi Kel and Rich, glad to find you guys on youtube. I pretty much like your reaction series of these "classical" progressive rock music, and I am a huge fan of Steven Wilson, I love all his music projects. So I'd like to recommend two old and less famous songs from the early stage of Porcupine Tree to you, which are "The Sky Moves Sideways (Phase One & Two)". I highly recommend you experience them as a compelete one, they are within the best Space/Atomosphere/Cyberpunk-oriented musics imo. Although it would cost you more than 35 min, I believe you will have a very high quality musical journey from it.
I feel it is time to revisit Riverside and Ne Obliviscaris. From Riverside Loose Heart, Dance With The Shadows, or Conceiving you. Ne Obliviscaris - Eyrie #painintheask
I bloody love Trains. #painintheask Cellar Darling - Insomnia Unleash The Archers - Awakening or Apex Bent Knee - Being Human (Live at Hand Forged Works)

Please do the live version of Raider II and Ancestral by Steven Wilson. People don't react to SW/PT enough sadly. Really grateful to you two for doing so much of SW. But a fan can never get enough, please do another PT/SW reaction soon. And the live version.
Gojira - The Art of Dying It took me several months to get into them, just like what happened with the almighty Ne Obliviscaris. (with my beloved Pain of Salvation it took years, but I was exposed to them too early)
Funny, it didn't take years with me, but I blindly bought the perfect element cd and spend a month listening to it to figure out what was going on. Once I did I decided that was my favorite band. Still is.
#painintheask if you haven't reacted yet - they are a band called IO EARTH or io earth - the song is called "HOLD ON" by io earth - one of the BEST PROG ROCK SONGS I HAVE EVER HEARD IN 40 YEARS!!!! ALSO - suggest IO EARTH with their songs "Insomnia" and "New World" and "HOLD ON" by IO EARTH is a MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!! a must listen!
I've been listening to Porcupine Tree since the Delirium (record label) years. Back in the 90's so I was lucky and got a jump start on the band compared to a lot of the U.S. In the early days they were more like a modern era Pink Floyd for lack of any other comparison. They have evolved over the years into what they became. I was pretty sorry when they broke up and went their separate ways. Wilson has re-mastered a lot of albums too including the classic early Yes albums. I suggest listening to The Sky Moves Sideways. Sorry to take up so much space.
Two absolutely amazing songs by PT.

I'd say the four of them added so much... I just don't feel Wilson's work is nowhere near PT's emotional brilliance.
They're back
Next Porcupine tree double you do should be : Sentimental + Normal because both tracks are linked together .... Great double shot!
I was just thinking how much I hoped they would discover Sentimental.
thats a great idea
The whole Anesthetize live album played in sequence is a collective masterpiece.
I wish I could listen Trains for the first time again.

Ditto (except for your thoughts on In a-Gadda - Musically it is hypnot
Sent it early- It is hypnotic and captures the time completely. Unlike PT, though, I can only listen to it once a year, at most.
The whole Anesthetize live album played in sequence is a collective masterpiece and although you cannot feasibly react to it all, I highly encourage anyone with the time to listen to it and appreciate the story its telling, it has honestly changed music for me and as cliche as it sounds, my view on the modern world.
Just so authentic. I know now how it feels to be a British boy in the 70s listening to the trains rolling at night. So amazing!
Steve Wilson music is contagious, all of it from Porcupine Tree through his solo stuff. We all do miss PT so much.
Gavin Harrison absolutely crushing on "Way Out of Here".....crazy musicality and power on this song.

should react to "in exile" by "the pineapple thief", has the drummer from porcupine tree and i think you might enjoy it :)

@@JWilks-lk7th Do a triple header and add in Fend For Yourself. That whole album is phenomenal.

Steven Wilson is the king of the vocal harmonies!
Such a magical song. Those chord progressions. Harmony singing. Emotional everytime I listen to it
I saw them live in Oberhausen last year. I legit cried and people around me got emotional and were completely overjoyed as well when trains started playing
