Let us tell you about an incredible superhero group. One that includes a powerful Kryptonian living on Earth, a speedster with amazing powers, and a hero who emerges from darkness of Gotham City and dresses like a Bat. While these attributes may describe the Justice League -- we’re actually talking about television’s Arrowverse. Since 2012, the Arrowverse has slowly grown and expanded -- featuring a great lineup of DC characters that could easily go toe to toe with any other cinematic universe. But how did the Arrowverse grow and become so successful while the DCEU has faltered over the past few years? Well, we’ll break everything down for you, showcase how the Arrowverse has risen above BOTH the DCEU and MCU and what the future holds for all our favorite television heroes.
If a superhero show premiered on television, the characters, storylines, and heroes were all typically contained within the same show. The idea of connected universes were not as common as they are today. In the 60’s, the live-action Batman show was a trailblazer and led to a movie featuring the same characters. The Incredible Hulk was iconic in the late 1970’s and is still referenced today despite the aged effects. The 90’s saw a large boom of heroes on TV with the New Adventures of Lois and Clark and The Flash both receiving critical acclaim. Then of course, there were popular animation superhero shows like X-Men The Animated Series and Batman: The Animated Series. But one of the biggest shows to have an impact on superheroes in television was DC’s Smallville.

The Arrowverse created a hero of their own that later got added to the comics. John Diggle AKA Spartan.
and in the final episodes of last season they revealed that Diggle is his birth name but his step-father's last name is Stewart. So his adopted name is John Stewart; which should be very very familiar name to DC Fans. Would not be surprised to see Dig become Green Lantern during Crisis. and either moving over to Legends or getting his own show as G.L.

The Arrowverse has done for DC what the MCU did for Marvel: make lesser-known characters popular and engaging to watch
excluding the flash in that because I am pretty sure everyone knows the flash ( not as well as batman and superman but still)
The only problem with the Arrowverse is that it's made for comic book fans by the writers of shows that usually do teen drama.

What makes you think that comic books aren't teen drama? That's literally what they are/were intended as. It's only due to poor marketing of comics to children (and prices beyond the reach of any modest allowance) that adult fans have such an outsize percentage of the comics-buying market.
Tyler James comic books are soap operas. You clearly have never read one.
That's actually a pretty fair assessment, but you have to consider what network the shows are on. The CW is *known* for teen drama, and while the Arrowverse has certainly expanded past relying on it, it's still a core mechanic of the network.
Or maybe they can't just make a comic accurate story because of being in cable show, they are restricted/limited use of there of the story of each characters in the show. Not everything in the comics can be interpreted in the the tv series especially when they are pg rated and had a budget for a tv series not some movie production.
Vixen's power does not include the ability to transform into animals, but rather she gains their proportionate abilities via a totem she wears.

Neal McDonough is a great actor. I agree, the story line wasn't all that great for season 4, but he still added much to the show.
I like the Island's flashback story line better than the actually story line.

It was a hit and miss in season three.
I think the DCEU should have taken their time to build their universe in movies. They tried to jump to the marvel train and skipped all the introductions and foundations of characters. Look how well they can do with the arrowverse and now how bad the movies are. They need to slow down and build their own world not just make one appear.
thats the problem with the movies. The arrowverse gives us a chance to meet each character and watch them grow. That's why seeing them interact with each other on different shows is so special. And we actually care what happens to them!
looking at the upcoming aquaman and shazam movie, i think they learnt their lessons and are taking things slowly. we can only hope for the best tho

I agree, getting rid of Snyder was also a good move. They treated it like a race to the super hero team-up, but really they should have believed in the characters and their ability to carry films on their own (and they can if you have a half decent director) and built up the universe slowly, like Marvel did. Aquaman and Shazam look like a step in the right direction at last.

I honestly wish Batman would just be allowed to be in the arrowverse because even if it’s just Bruce wayne, it would bring up so many ratings for the arrowverse and there can be way more opportunities for dc to even make a movie completely based on the arrowverse, just like the crossovers but on the big screen

I would totally watch an arrowverse based movie then whatever the DCEU is doing these days.
I still say if they can do what smallville did like bringing all those characters but better, their chances at achieving complete greatness like making a crossover on the big screen, it would be good for both the arrowverse and the fans, but I doubt Warner bros would allow it considering how stubborn they are

Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne, just to have Bruce Wayne be an established character would be great. I have to see how they do Gotham and Batwoman, because Superman's reveal in Supergirl was a huge disappointment to me. But, even using Gotham and a character apart of the Bat-Universe, is a huge deal.

That was uncharacteristically insightful and well put together. I was expecting snippets, but got studied essay on the quality of the arrowverse. That was a labor of love. Well done.
As cool as the Arrowverse it still has it's issue focusing too much on relationship drama, predictable plot twists, issues with characters like Iris and Felicity, and too many filler episodes. But overall l'll take this over the garbage known as the dceu any day
You summed it up perfectly! The Arrowverse has some pretty obvious and irritating problems but it's still overall an amazing achievement for the CW to have us care and love for DC's B, C and even D list characters
Smallville and the arrowverse are basically Dawson’s Creek with super powers... Black Lightning is sooo bad... Jefferson’s daughters are terrible actress’s... that gambi fellow too, seen him in multiple films and tv shows over the years and it’s a miracle how he is still acting... just terrible... Loving Titans though, it’s a big step up from the Detective Comics Dawson’s Creek(DCDC) shows 🤓👍

The LGBQ is very represented but actually so often it kind of feels forced. Don't get me wrong I don't mind some characters are and it fits for some good plot points, but it starts to feel so representative it isn't representative.

I don't even think it's that. it's the changing of the characters for no other reasons than to make them LGBT. Plus, it can be argued that they are reducing the character to one or two traits (gender and sexual orientation). For example with Batwoman, what else had they said about the character other than she's a lesbian? Nothing. Why? Because they doing it for the reason of being PC instead of being creative. Because the writers suck.
At this point, a straight white male would be a shocking addition to the Arrowverse.

The biggest mistake was killing off TV show suicide squad to make the big screen version. Let's hope it's not the same in Deathstroke's case
I don't think they're going to kill him off but we're not seeing Manu Bennett anytime soon. Geoff Johns has been teasing Deathstroke coming to Titans and Titans is its own thing meaning another actor

Still, if you compare some current stuff from The Flash with the CGI in S1, it has improved a lot. Better CGI gets cheaper as time goes on, so really the only way is up.

Cant blame the crew and actors, not even directors. Its more like "money/budget issue" so sometimes we need to be less observant with cgi and use imaginations and apprecaition with the stars talent & story lines.

I love the Arrowverse man, its just such a nice thing to follow. It has its ups and downs, its sappy moments and stuff, but heck it's a lot of fun, and you can just tell a lot of great good people make it, it makes me very happy that all these groups get their representation in the Arrowverse and the actors are usually such great guys on social media (seriously, follow Stephen Amell on facebook, he's awesome). It's getting hard for me to follow all the shows at once, but i still make the effort because they friggin deserve it. Thanks for SO much Berlanti!

I started watching "arrowverse" through The Flash season 1 then after I enjoy it I binge watch everything in arrowverse.

I love all the Arrowverse shows (including Black Lightning). And I can't wait for Batwoman.
And whilst all shows (excluding Black Lightning for now) had some comparatively weaker story arcs, I hope that all shows will go on for a lot more seasons.

It's the greatest video I've seen to sum up the whole of arrowverse. I watch all the shows, and I'm a great fan. It's great to see how the universe is expanding and our heroes are getting more and more seasons. But one of the main concern is the decreasing viewership of all the shows. I just hope they all spring back.
If they can’t do characters in the movies, why not do green lantern?
I always thought they didn't because his powers are probably the hardest to show without some pretty awesome CGI. I'd like to see it, but I think if they were to do him his powers would eat up the more limited TV budget like Grodd or King Shark.
Diversity doesn't matter when it comes to the story, focus on the story and characters.

Point of Order, Vixen does not "transform into animals". She uses her amulet to take on the spirit of a particular beast, temporarily gaining aspects of their power. MUCH easier on the special effects budget.

The Arrowverse is what the DCEU should've done. It's the success of the MCU that the Arrowverse also matches, but can't be done the same in film. Thing is I love both Marvel and DC, but DC didn't build up to the big movie like Marvel did with The Avengers. But the CW shows make up for that and I love it, just a shame they didn't do the same hard work with building the Justice League.

It works for the CW but could never work on the big screen. Movie franchises have to reach the largest audience possible to make the investment in filmmaking
worth the risk. You don't want the talk about a tentpole film to be about a same-sex relationship versus the actual plot of the film. Maybe in a few more years
(Thanks in part to the CWDC shows "mainstreaming" LGBTQ characters) the film franchises will take that leap. But I don't see that happening with Marvel for a
while. Perhaps WB will put a Lesbian character in Birds of Prey to test the waters but other then that,I don't see it happening within the next ten years.
Problem is the CW pi$$es all over DC Lore, Disney/MCU only does a lil bit. ;) :P

The gay relationships feel forced. I could understand if the relationship had something to do with the story arc but it comes across as it's written just to apease the LGBT demographic.
It is forced it's all about agendas.
So when you see a straight relationship you don't think those are forced either? It just feels forced to you because of lack of exposure to this kind of thing. To LGBT people its a breathe of fresh air.
@@RamblyBear you're missing the point. Any relationship can feel forced once it's forced into a plot just for the sake of being there. Just sticking ideals into a story for no other reason than to make the sight of them more common takes from the story and messes up its whole flow.

The next Arrowverse show should be pretty obvious. Rip Hunter has a pretty interesting collection of random stuff but one item that he keeps in his office on the Waverider is the Helmet of Fate. With John Costantine joining the Legends of Tomorrow, how long do you think it'll take before he notices one of, if not the most powerful magical artifact in the entire DC multiverse?
I believe that Dr. Fate will be next, and it's about f*cking time!

And it is about a 'Time Master' who travels in his machine, which can travel in all 'space and time in the dimension' and can cloak itself.
I love doctor who and really I hate it and even if it is a great Show, legends of tomorrow felt like a copy. I couldn't whatch it.

Also, in terms of female representation, one of the biggest female Sups on Agents of SHIELD is Chloe Bennett's Quake, an Inhuman. The show has lasted for 6 (soon 7 Seasons) despite mixed reviews. And unlike DC still referring to Lara-El as Super "Girl" she is shown as a powerful and mature Woman on the show.
