Matt, are you coming out with a new computer build video for 2023? I need to build one soon, so if not, would the parts list be approximately the same from this video? Thx!
Hello. I come from Vietnam. I don't have much knowledge about computers so I really need your explanation about my problem. Currently I have $1,000 to build a computer configuration to edit UA-cam videos. Video duration is about 1-2 hours. The software I use is mainly Adobe and Capcut. How should I build the configuration? Please give me advice, thank you for reading.
This video is one of the most helpful and complete video I've ever watch. I never even leave comments on videos, but I needed to say this video is AMAZINGA. Thank you so much!
@10:50 You mention MSRP but these cards are almost or over $2000. I think your total price for your system may be a bit skewed if you're only looking at MSRP.
I built a fresh pc last year with the 5900x and 64gb ram, I however couldn't get hold of any reasonably priced graphics cards so had to stick with my 1660ti which was a very capable 4k editing rig. Finally though the price of cards are now back to some normality and I managed to pick up a really good priced 3070, and I think its the perfect sweet spot for all my video and photo editing pairing with my current equipment and files. Also I managed to get everything for an absolute bargain so I'm chuffed it didn't break the bank.

I just got a 5950x which is 16 core 32 threads for $630. I saw the benchmarks and the 12900k is slightly faster but nothing noticeable. DDR5 is expensive and as to why I went with Ryzen and early adopting these Intel CPUs is a gamble. Another thing to take into account is that the TDP of at least the 12900k is almost twice of the 5950x which runs way hotter for a small percentage boost. Right now with a 240MM AIO and a slight undervolt, I'm sitting at mid 50s idle to low to mid 70's under load and sometimes climb into the low to mid 80s.
Could you do a build of all these parts? I chose some of the upgrades and am ready to assemble but I don’t want to mess anything up as this will be my first build
Okay Matt, I just gave you a vehement disagreement on the CPU for your $1K 2022 build CPU, so I think it's fair to hop in & tell you these are good choices for $1.5K. I'd only stress that the video storage should be SSD, External SSD, or internal RAID0 if you want to use spinning SATA hard drives for GB/$$. 1 single 7200rpm SATA drive, internal or external, is not optimum speed & you can hit a wall with a few video streams like multicam editing.

Hey Matt, i have been following for a long time and now i'm finally building a PC and needed some help. i was wondering if the MSI PRO Z690-A WiFi DDR4 support the Intel 13th gen 13700k? (since the performance of 13700k is better tha the 12900k and is priced better)
06:38 I got a b550 motherboard and only has 1 4.0 Pcie, the other one is 3.0, what should be better? 1. A single 4.0 ssd for the OS/programs and the editing files 2. OS/programs in the 4.0 ssd and files in a 3.0 ssd? And i guess it could be a 3rd option 3. OS/programs in 3.0 ssd and files in 4.0 ssd What you would think is the best? Thanks!
I've had really good luck with GPU notifications on B&H. I picked up a 3070ti a few months ago and just recently picked up a 3090. Nowhere near MSRP of course, but I have them in hand. Now I need to figure out what to do with that 3070ti...
I know its older video, but just little reminder when buying motherboard - motherboards have RAM limitations some MB can take up to 64gb and some up to 128gb so this is next thing to look for when buying MB :)

Just found your channel and you give such good info! My question for you is, I notice in your recommendations that you recommend 2x RAM sticks, why wouldn't you use 4x since there are 4 slots?
I know this is almost a year old, but essentially, for 16G, go with 2x8 sticks (8GB each), then when you want to up to 32 G Drop another 2 8GB sticks in at the same speed spec and voila, 32GB and you do not have to replace them all with an appropriate amount anyway, besides, that seems to be how they are sold anyway, 2, 8GB, or 2, 16GB sticks etc., with most motherboards topping out 128GB anyway.
Hi Matt, Thanks for this video. As a fellow UA-camr, I'm interested in building my own video recording/editing desktop. I do have a question, are these specs compatible for Windows 11 OS?

Do you get problems with loud cooling fan noises? I have an older computer that literally sounds like a small plane flying over my head So I have to shut that one off when I do recording. My main computer is much quieter.
My computer has i7 8700k and GTX 970 32GB of Ram EVGA NEX 750B PSU Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz ASUS PRIME Z370-A mobo Camera I have a Sony A7 S3 with 10-bit editing.. I am having to make proxy files to edit.. will this build be a upgrade for me and will it be a huge Improvement?
Upgrading the cpu to a 12 or 16 core would make a big difference in 4K and higher resolution editing. Wouldn’t hurt to upgrade the graphics card too, that 970 pretty old these days.
Hey Matt, The video is really a help for building a PC. What are ur thoughts on Mac mini m1 chip for Premier or Davinci?. Thank you man u r a saviour matt.
That's wild. Am looking to make a list of things I will need so i can buy them as I can and never now, something like this will run me way over 2k. Thankfully my current laptop (a second hand asus ZenBook from 2015) can still handle the work am doing as I learn how to use premiere pro. Even davinci resolve runs on it but it definitely lags sometimes as I open more intensive windows like effects so I will need to replace it in the near future.
Iv'e just come across you looking for MB advise, I must say you are very good in fact great and enjoyable to watch. You certainly informed me with what I need to know in a sort of fun way. Regards Tony from Australia
Matt I’m looking for something around the 2k range. I could build, but would prefer a prebuilt. I’m looking for something that can handle smooth real time play back in 4K. Videos are 10 minutes or less with call out graphics. Anything you would recommend?
The graphics cards have their own memory that comes already on the card itself. (VRAM) This spec has no bearing on which of the two different RAM types for your motherboard choice. Late comment, but also helping explain for future viewers.
I have the newest MacBook Pro 5600 which edits 4k 8k and all that jazz BUT adobe can’t handle 10 bit so it ends up being pretty rough to use. Will this build handle 10 bit 4:2:2 or is that primarily an adobe problem??
Yo, Matt. Any idea if I can upgrade the parts around my CPU to get Real-time playback of the RAW for the C70? CPU is a core i9-9900KF Processor.I know I can jack up my RAM and video card. Just not sure the CPU has the brute force at all.
I love these videos. I'll never buy a pre-made again after my last experience. Lots of claims not a lot of actual performance. And deliberate limitations on top of that. I can't use nodes in DaVinci because it only has one graphics card and it's built into the computer in only allows I believe a 4 gig add-on which I don't think will do a whole lot more for it. What's your position on Linux OS?
One of two things you likely did, didn't do any research, bought a lower end turnkey system or something like that as they can be quite strapped for video editing. I'd rather get something from Dell like the Studio XPS and use their configuration and for $1700, bought a more than capable desktop for 1080P editing. At the time, it was the first gen Core i7 processor and had an ATI Radeon discrete graphics card (back when AMD was ATI for graphics). Was able to configure it from Dell. Then in 2019, had to replace that poor old PC and went with a refurbished 6 YO Dell Optiplex small form factor desktop that will just do 1080P with a discrete older lower end graphics card (and will fit and work on the puny power supply) that I had already, meaning for it to be good for about a year before I'd upgrade, however, Covid put all that on hold so now I HAVE to upgrade here fairly soon so am doing research on it now. It'll hopefully be based on the most current processor and DDR5 memory.
Awesome video. I just built a beast of a PC. Ryzen 9 5850x with a RTX 3080 and Samsung 980 pro. Sometimes, during playback of 1080/ 60fps from my Sony a73 or 4k/60fps from my GoPro, it skips frames and lags. When I lower the timeline resolution, it helps a lot and much smoother. I know the codecs have to do a lot with it but shouldn’t my gpu be able to shred through the codecs at original resolution? The software im using is Davince Resolve. I also select all clips and hit “Generate Optimized Media”.
Hey man, I got the answer to your question but you’re not gonna like it. Nvidia GPUs do NOT support hardware accelerated decoding of 4:2:2 10 bit h.264/h.265 footage. It doesn’t matter what editing program you’re using because the GPU itself isn’t capable of doing it. So you’re computer is only using the CPU to decode your Sony footage. You can confirm this by opening task manager and checking out GPU usage while playing back in Davinci.
@@SuperCommercialDude oh man! Prob why I was having that issue. I guess the best way is to keep doing the “Generate for Optimized Media” and put it on a 1080p timeline. Damn! Thanks for the answer. I appreciate it
Hey Matt, thanks for the great info as usual. So, if we buy the Mac Studio and upgrade to the 2TB SSD, should we consider editing from footage stored on the internal ssd, as opposed to editing from an external ssd, like I usually do?
Okay, thank you! This video was very helpful and thanks for responding :) and got all the parts I need except the graphics card. I may wait until the prices drop.
Came across another issue with the products working together. The power supply only provides 2 of the 3 VGA wires needed. If u wanna buy those two together u probably will need to buy an extra cord
forgive naivety, but trying to educate myself amidst sea of confusing and conflicting tutorials. what does it mean when amd says it doesn't natively support 10 bit 4.2.2? why do some channels, articles, blogs, endorse intel over amd strictly for this? can anyone in the community please provide some insight or share a resource here? in the initial stages of researching components and unable to find an unbiased clear and concise explanation. any help wud be greatly appreciated. -colton
Damn every UA-camr switching to intel CPUs and team blue. Followed the guide last year for an AMD CPU. Does anyone know if Intel does better with Neat video denoiser than AMD? That can really increase my export time.
Great build…. But you will not be able to find these things for “1500-2000.” These parts are going to run you a lot more. The graphics card alone is $1740 plus tax on Amazon. And availability is still an issue. This is a more expensive build than the title suggests. This is like a 2500$ build atm. I spent 1500$ in person at micro center recently, and ended up with a great build, but I had to go with a little bit weaker graphics card (6600 xt). The other items have all soared in price too, but you can still manage to find them at a reasonable rate.
yeah i did it with the more powerful parts he mentioned for $2700, it would’ve been even more but i had parts from my old computer edit: great build though
This build in general yes, but since Redshift is a GPU renderer, it depends on the GPU model. I have an RTX 3070 and it works fine with Redshift, but of coures, the higher up you go, the faster and more fluid render times and live-previews are going to be.
Hey Matt, ty for all your pro tips. Question: How/why do you edit off of an external Samsung T5 SSD, instead of using one of your internal Sabrents or even something like a Samsung Evo Pro 970 (what I use on my Lenovo workstation) ? Isn’t the write speed quicker on the latter choices? I know you might proxy, which I do too, but it seems like with this build (or at least one of the higher tier builds) it would be unnecessary. Ty again
Go back and watch again, he is quite mobile so needs to have projects be mobile too as he is switching from a desktop to a laptop, so a single drive for projects he's working on, that way, he ensures he has the most update version of a project at hand, and not having to update the one on the desktop before he can edit and does not have to think twice about it, just plug the drive in, and go. It's a bit of a compromise in ultimate speed for editing, Vs convenience and knowing he has the absolute latest version saved until the project is finished and exported. That is my guess anyway.

@@whoismatt Thank you for your answer.
I have a gtx 1660 and ryzen 7 2700 so what cost affective upgrade could I get?
can i go for MSI MAG z690 tomahawk DDR5 motherboard insted of the ones in the video
Yes please make the video about pre built over 1000
Hi mate, I have to get 8k pc built, I am based in Australia..any suggestions. Thanks mate
My computer has i7 8700k and GTX 970 32GB of Ram EVGA NEX 750B PSU Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz ASUS PRIME Z370-A mobo
Camera
I have a Sony A7 S3 with 10-bit editing..
Hey thanks! Watch my prebuilt video editing pc guide, I talk about the m1 at the end
Very useful. big thank you from Italy
Iv'e just come across you looking for MB advise, I must say you are very good in fact great and enjoyable to watch. You certainly informed me with what I need to know in a sort of fun way. Regards Tony from Australia
Have this kit a rgb idk?:)
Thanks for this awesome video. 🔥🔥
Matt I’m looking for something around the 2k range. I could build, but would prefer a prebuilt. I’m looking for something that can handle smooth real time play back in 4K. Videos are 10 minutes or less with call out graphics. Anything you would recommend?
Buy a base level mac studio 👍
What will be changes if I want to go with Icore9?
Hey Matt, the graphics card you mentioned for ddr4 motherboards are ddr6 Cards. Are they compatible?
Yes
The graphics cards have their own memory that comes already on the card itself. (VRAM) This spec has no bearing on which of the two different RAM types for your motherboard choice. Late comment, but also helping explain for future viewers.
Everything is out of stock , at this point I will just buy a switch
I have the newest MacBook Pro 5600 which edits 4k 8k and all that jazz BUT adobe can’t handle 10 bit so it ends up being pretty rough to use. Will this build handle 10 bit 4:2:2 or is that primarily an adobe problem??
someone answer this question. This is what i need to know
Thanks for this video! Does anyone know what what graphics cards are compatible with Premiere Pro CC 2018?
Premiere is pretty darn compatible, as long as it is not a super low end card it should work great
Awesome video.
Here’s a link to a list of codecs Nvidia GPUs support. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_NVDEC
@@SuperCommercialDude oh man! Prob why I was having that issue. I guess the best way is to keep doing the “Generate for Optimized Media” and put it on a 1080p timeline. Damn! Thanks for the answer. I appreciate it
@@SuperCommercialDude wait. I just took a look at the list and the rtx 3080 does support those codecs
Let me know if I’m reading that wrong. Looking under the GPU support and 3080 is towards the end.
now way you'll find 3080 or 3090 for the prices you mentioned.
Hey Matt, thanks for the great info as usual. So, if we buy the Mac Studio and upgrade to the 2TB SSD, should we consider editing from footage stored on the internal ssd, as opposed to editing from an external ssd, like I usually do?
Yes I would edit internally if you can, as the internal ssd is much faster. Don’t forget to make backups often
@@whoismatt Makes sense, thank you! Hey, have you done any videos on the Apple Studio Display, and if it's worth it, compared to other displays?
If you buy that you deserve everything bad that happens to u.
Hey Matt - thanks for the video. Any issues with the AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT Graphics Card with 8GB GDDR6 on this MSI motherboard with the Intel i9?
6650 is pretty underpowered. Which i9?
@@Harigan I ended up going with the Intel I7-12700K and the Nvidia RTX 3080
@@mattkirstein that's much better! I hope you like it.
Do you need a graphics card if there is built in graphics on the intel i7 CPU?
I would still recommend one as the cpu graphics are quite slow
Okay, thank you! This video was very helpful and thanks for responding :) and got all the parts I need except the graphics card. I may wait until the prices drop.
Good video!
Came across another issue with the products working together. The power supply only provides 2 of the 3 VGA wires needed. If u wanna buy those two together u probably will need to buy an extra cord
Nice video! Will we see graphics cards drop in price anytime in the near future, or will they only go up from here?
I think prices will drop once supply chain issues get sorted
What about the onboard graphics on the 12900k?
Onboard graphics on any CPU is not nearly sufficient for video editing. You can use it for regular use until you aquire a dedicated graphics card.
forgive naivety, but trying to educate myself amidst sea of confusing and conflicting tutorials. what does it mean when amd says it doesn't natively support 10 bit 4.2.2?
why do some channels, articles, blogs, endorse intel over amd strictly for this?
can anyone in the community please provide some insight or share a resource here?
in the initial stages of researching components and unable to find an unbiased clear and concise explanation.
any help wud be greatly appreciated.

Damn every UA-camr switching to intel CPUs and team blue. Followed the guide last year for an AMD CPU. Does anyone know if Intel does better with Neat video denoiser than AMD? That can really increase my export time.
Update da ddr5 Corsair went down in price I just copped what you talked about for 250$
Love these!
Love y’all and your music!
@@whoismatt You're killing it, Matt-as per usual.
make an updated version
Great build…. But you will not be able to find these things for “1500-2000.” These parts are going to run you a lot more. The graphics card alone is $1740 plus tax on Amazon. And availability is still an issue. This is a more expensive build than the title suggests. This is like a 2500$ build atm. I spent 1500$ in person at micro center recently, and ended up with a great build, but I had to go with a little bit weaker graphics card (6600 xt). The other items have all soared in price too, but you can still manage to find them at a reasonable rate.
Click bait. We’re all here like moths to a flame. 🤤🤣
yeah i did it with the more powerful parts he mentioned for $2700, it would’ve been even more but i had parts from my old computer
edit: great build though
And here we are 1 year later and I'm buying 5700xts for $150 each 🥴
Yes click bait, instead of bikini babes he gets us with pc prices
Now that’s sinister
Here I am in 2023, bought it for $1980 with some upgraded parts.
Thanks You so much, love ya
Can you game with these?
Definitely
@@whoismatt can you game at high fps and graphics etc :)
resolve need 24gb for 8k
maybe re think buy second hand graphics card maybe have a problem editor for video on the long waY
Would this build be good for3D GPU rendering using a renderer like Redshift?
This build in general yes, but since Redshift is a GPU renderer, it depends on the GPU model. I have an RTX 3070 and it works fine with Redshift, but of coures, the higher up you go, the faster and more fluid render times and live-previews are going to be.
the nh u9s will not be enough
