Hit or Miss? Royal Enfield Scram 411 Motorcycle Review. On Road; Off Road and The Ol' Man Gets Lost!

  • We review the new model 2022 Royal Enfield Scram 411 Motorbike to establish whether Royal Enfield have got it right or wrong with this reincarnation of the Himalayan Dual Sport/Trail Motorbike.
We ride this stripped down to bare essentials bike through towns, villages and countryside, and on the motorway (not filmed), to put it through its paces.
We look at the styling, ergonomics, seat height, dimensions, engine power and torque and how this feels, suspension, brakes, gears, it's handling on and off road, and whether it's any good for going on an adventure. We also discuss whether zero emissions electric cars are actually as environmentally friendly as motorbikes, even ones that don't pass the Euro 5 emissions tests. You may be shocked!
Would we choose this bike or a full blown adventure bike? Find out by watching the video all the way through.
This video is a little bit different from our usual format too with some added extras! We hope you like it!
The Scram has a smaller front wheel, a bit less suspension travel, a slightly lower seat height and loses the racks and protection bars, and has some cosmetic changes. Does this improve the looks of the bike and the way it rides? We find out.
The Ol Man goes on a very long ride and find himself at the tallest waterfall in the UK, gets lost and sneaks into an old church.
We also were testing out our new action camera in this video.
411cc. A2 Licence Compatible (UK EU). Made in India in collaboration with UK HQ.

I bought my Himalayan thanks to you and i think i never enjoyed a motorcycle so much, i fell like royal Enfield brings back all the things we have lost about motorcycling in the last years. I hope more people will try these bikes because it's a real pleasure to find something you never realized you lost long time ago.

i love my Scram 411. I drive slow and sure with my cars. I drive slow and sure with my motorbikes. I love the slow life make me appreciate nature a bit more compared to the adrenaline rush of speeding up :)

    "Slow children playing" 😂👍
Now, one year later, I got this Scram 411 myself and I love it!
I have ridden it around 3500 kms since June 20, and I have been to places I never thought I could reach before. The only con so far is of course I cannot match the acceleration of the big twins my comerades ride, but given a few more seconds, I catch up! 😁👍

My son and I have both been following you guys for a while now, and this review really summed up why we do. The laid back style, with just enough stats, and then showing what the bike really does best (exploring the beatiful Welsh countryside) is what a bike review is all about for me. There are certain UA-camrs (no names) who review bikes and take one corner commenting "its' extremely flickable" ... really?? Please keep on doing what you do...the extra scenes, the comedy, you guys just being you. Oh and 'Slow Children'? I used to live in the Fens ... there were quite a few 'slow' children there (if you know what I mean).

I might be biased, having a Himalayan. But I agree. Riding back from the DGR a month ago, I took the single lanes from Bathurst to almost make it home. Tootling along at a gentlemanly pace, hitting dirt and gravel, unsealed roads with potholes, bumps and mud. The Himi just plodded along like nothing changed. I would assume the Scram would be quite similar.
A more powerful bike would have only done one thing better. Got me home faster. The funny part is… when you’re riding a bike, why would you want it to be over sooner? Think about that one. 👌🏻

That's probably THE nicest looking bike RE have produced to date, EXCEPT for those daft looking yellow covers! You didn't show us the brackets but I'd be tempted to saw them off if they can't be unbolted. I also love the minimalist approach to instrumentation on motorcycles unlike the "command module" approach on some much more expensive high tech offerings. The huge push towards battery power is a big con IMO. In addition to the environmental impact of actually making them, people buy EV's, declare themselves "emission free", then take it home and charge it from the grid with electricity still generated largely by fossil fuels! What a joke!😂

Even when charged using coal power plants, an ev car has lower lifetime emissions than one with an internal combustion engine. For a motorcycle, this is even more pronounced, as ev motorcycles have smaller batteries than ev vars and ice motorcycles have less efficient engines than ice cars.

I really like that bike. Price is great and it doesn’t look like a transformer. Tired of bikes looking like plastic toys. I think this will fit the bill perfectly. I do city commutes, and country lanes only. I have no desire to take my trucks or motorcycles on the expressways. I am about 5’7” and 175lbs about once or twice a week I do a 90mile ride at 55-60mph. I think this bike should be able to handle that pretty easily with my stature and weight. Now I just have to find one, closest Royal Enfield dealer from me is about 100 miles from me one way.

I liked these, but in the end went for a 350 classic, just because I liked the ride more. It just seems that Royal Enfield are knocking it out of the park at the minute. I really think you can’t go wrong with any of them. Can’t wait to pick mine up this coming week. Looking forward to a trip around Wales in September before going off to the alps for a few weeks on it next year as well. Life in the slow Lane can be a great way to travel.

I just rewatched this video. Why? Because I had the good fortune to test ride 4 RE bikes today, and this one blew me away. I admit that the classic 350 is the most beautiful RE bike, bit I had trouble getting my boot under the shifter.
The meteor disappointed in the comfort department, and although the int650 had the most refined motor, it lacked a bit at low revs, and the rear brake was mushy. The Scram just floored me with a near perfect riding position, and the seat was not anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. The bike was agile, had just the right power to weight ratio, and sounded very nice. As always, you really”get” what these bikes are all about in your videos. I enjoyed watching it again🙂

The 411 is good value. It would look better with a flat seat, in my eyes. I agree about your comments about electric vehicles. I'd rather have my 390 Duke than a 411. Better engine, suspension and gearbox. It runs on tubeless tyres. Mind you, I always rode on tubed tyres in the old days. Everyone did. Good video. You live in a beautiful area. I like the donkey.

    I really enjoyed that review.
The Scram 411 does seem to evoke that "just keep going" type of feeling.
The minimal amount of specification data is ideal as is the additional shots of the countryside you are travelling in and the old stone church. Made me start think about next weekend's ride.

Now I have bought this fine maschine and my wife love the maschine too. It is wonderfull to drive here in Norway. Wonderfull because and now listen - the horsepower i at the bottom - so we have had a super hollyday round about in Norways beautifullest and smallest ways in our beautifull mountainfilled country. AND THE RE SCRAM 411 DID IT SUPERB. I do not now thinking of buying a BMW R1200 GS or buy a Triumph 900 or buy even the superfine Suzuki 650 V-Strom which is a superb middelclasstravellerbike - no doubt. But here in NOrway we have not many motorways and me and my wife loved the little great reliable Royal Enfield Scram 411. It gives you a way to enjoy the fine nature in a better way - we talked about and why buy more then you need. A fine maschine which now has become a member of our motorcyclefamily.

Thanks for the inspiration. Great (funny) content and the philosophy of small RE bikes and the journey they offer. I have the Himmy and done many great trips on that already including a LeJoG.... An hour from Wales so I'll be in your backyard this autumn.

me and my brother bought Himalayan 's a year ago. We are both in our late 50's and have loads of bikes over the years. RE and particularly the Himalayan are brilliant. Takes us back to the 80's. So much fun. Great video. Thanks.

With you 100%. Adventure bikes aren't just ugly, they're a huge burden everywhere but the freeway. Dual sports are where it's at.

Love what you're saying near the end there about soulless modern bikes. I really resonated with that. I'm getting a Himalayan as I'm not interested in speed but love off road and going down tiny lanes and exploring. Love your reviews. 😊👍

Just about 2 minutes in, thought I would pause just to mention what others have mentioned, and that is the scenery is absolutely beautiful, but the opening shot here, at a distance from The Ol' Man, viewing through the tall grass, shots like this just makes me addicted to these gentlemen's content, Bravo! Now back to the video...

Congrats on hitting 50k and beyond. Very good videos and well deserved. I am definitely a Royal Enfield convert and have become a big fan of the brand as a result of your channel and several others who have done reviews. Hoping to travel to and ride in Wales if possible in the near future. Beautiful scenery and the kind of roads I like. Cheers and stay safe, Dan. ✌️🏍🇨🇦

I could not help but notice your Premier helmet. My very first full face helmet, many year ago, was a Premier, Mine was candy blue and white. Also, I very much enjoyed your video and am in agreement with your thoughts. Oh, and I LOVE churches both new and old. We have one near us in New York State, USA. It was built by German settlers in 176o, older than our country.

I'll be finding myself in the Scram saddle in a couple weeks. Can't wait! No doubt this video will cross my mind while testing RE's latest gift to the moto community.

This is my next bike. I have a Speed Triple that goes as fast as you can stand, I don’t need to go fast. I want to clod around on trails and fire roads and still be able to ride to and fro. The Scram 411 is perfect for that. And it looks brilliant, like a real motorcycle made out of aluminum and steel with proper spoked wheels.
