But he has been more active in his blog, and for me this is a good sign for the books in general. So I think that we have TWOW at some point in the near future, and I don't think that 2027 will come without at least a release date.
Cool. Let me know as soon as Dream of Spring is published - I’ll start getting excited about WoW once I know the series is actually going to get finished.
George said he won't put any clues or hints about finishing it but will announce it straight forward. So, it wouldn't be intentionally a hint. However, I think he's very clearly wanting to move on and do these other things. The longer he delays TWOW, the more likely he never gets to do these other projects and he's getting older and has friends younger than him who have passed away. My guess is that most of TWOW has been written in a few spurts where he was able to crank out quite a few pages, but the most he's really able to do is about 300 pages a year. If he really was 3/4 finished 2 years ago (and perhaps hadn't progressed much since then), then he needs another big push and perhaps this could be the motivation to finish up enough that can be published, perhaps splitting TWOW or at least publishing something so he can do these other projects. And that could be not letting down Ira Parker and his team on the Dunk & Egg series or being able to help with other series or movies and not have TWOW hanging over his head. But assuming he need to finish perhaps 400+ pages, and he only got really down to work since he got back from his summer vacation, that could mean finishing it next year. If he is again in one of those spurts where he really is making progress, he would be far more optimistic that it will be done. If he's struggling because he can't figure out what to do with some plot point or character, finally committing to something and writing it could be what he needed to do to finish.

GRRM posted on Nov 22 "I am falling way behind on these posts, alas. The past few months have been very busy." What's keeping GRRM very busy? It could be he's working on a new series, like the Aegon's Conquest series which Mattson Tomlin's tweets indicate he's been working on quite a bit. Or there's some movie in development or perhaps GRRM has other projects like his trains and theater. Or perhaps he's busy with his personal life besides writing. However, it's not like he's been at events or something clearly is happening to keep him busy. He's not involved in writing HOTD or the production it seems. The Dunk & Egg series finished filming in September. GRRM might get updates or be sent the trailer, but it's not really going to be keeping him very busy. So, perhaps that does indicate he's in one of these periods where he makes progress on TWOW.
I noticed that too. I figured he was either referencing all of the traveling he did during the summer or if we are being optimistic, that he is busy finishing TWOW.
It feels strange that he hasn't published anything this year, in George's website you can see his publications which he usually announces during april or may. In stark contrast, we have 2024 which is empty, true, he didn’t published anything during the pandemic but that's another matter.
Ive noticed this too. How he always sarcastically refers to winds, and left it out this time. Unfortunately with Dunk and Egg, The new spinoff being announced and his multiple other side projects i don't think he's been working on winds this year.
Your optimism tells me you've not been waiting as long as some of us 🤣. The copious spare time comment was pure sarcasm I reckon. I do think its getting close though 🤞
I unfortunately (or fortunately depending on who you ask) got into the books around 2017, so I haven't been waiting as long as the people who have been waiting since 2011. I really hope we get TWoW soon too!
I suppose he may finish Winds of Winter at some point. But I'm pretty certain we'll never see A Dream of Spring, book number 7 in his projected Song of Ice and Fire series
He has enough time to travel through Europe and blog about it, lol. But you may be right about the sarcasm. The tone of his recent blogs has been more positive, and the humor is more tongue-in-cheek than sarcasm. Maybe that's why I'm hopeful.
I think the fact that George is doing all of this on his own, and has no interest in others planting in his garden, is the primary factor here. I’m not talking about a ghost writer, but I feel like his universe has gotten too big for just one person to handle, I feel like a team of people who respect and understand his work could really create something amazing.
Sorry, friend. “In my copious spare time” is just old-American-person speak for “I don’t have time for it and it’s not gonna happen unless I abandon something that’s actually important”
I think if George ever gets it done he’ll just make a straightforward announcement once it’s delivered to the publisher. Good luck with the channel. Subbed and will be watching your theories.
I think this was just people misinterpreting wording. It didn't sound like a subtle release hint at all to me. Still thanks for uploading and getting some community going
Just a few months ago he literally said he only finished “a few pages” in the first half of the year. This means he wrote at least 2 pages but I can guarantee you no more than 50 (because that’s not a horrible number and if he did that he’d probably just say it). If he was correct in saying the book was about 75% done a year ago, and needs at least a couple hundred more pages, we are still far off based on how little he progressed the first half of this year.
There were 10+ years between the first Grey Alys story being published and GRRM starting work on ASOIAF, so I don't think "ASOIAF taking off" is the reason he didn't do more. Frankly, the dude very rarely finishes planned series. there's a part in Dreamsongs where he talks about his "patented 1 story series", i.e. stories he was going to write sequels to and never did, and there are quite a few of them. The warning signs for what was going to happen with ASOIAF were plain as day, but we didn't want to see.
Reads like sarcasm to me. Isn't it funny though that he was never able to get round to the sequel for this book either though, man's basically spent his whole life procrastinating
Yeah ... and I say this respectfully "NO!" this is not a dropped clue. The tone here (and when you see him interviewed) is always one of gentle self-deprication. This man has spent the last 13 or so years labouring under the shadow of completing WofW. If there's something he's not good at (and he freely admits it) it's estimating his work-completion dates. God bless him! But we all know that when WofW is done and at the printers, he'll unequivocally let us know. He'll be on every talkshow and podcast for 4-5 months. He's also said he knows that the day he puts WofW to bed, the next book will still be there throwing shade on his 'copius free time'.
I feel a little selfish saying this but I always knew sooner or later winds of winter would release. I'm worried about never getting dream of summer. So hearing about his copious plans for before finishing his magnum opus is kinda troubling to me.
I hope you're right but I think he would just say he's done of he were done. Hell likely say the book is done "before" it's edited. Just when he's got the last chapter up to his standards, then editing will take like a month. Hopefully he's almost done since he said he was 3/4ths of the way through 2 years ago and with the last two books the last 1/3rd to 1/4th took between 11 months and a year and a half. But also this book seems to just keep being written forever and be perpetually "maybe a year away" so I can't get my hopes up.
Part of me thinks he is likely using the truncated sentence as a reference, like a meme. But also I do actually think he is finishing it up rn beyond even WoW: Class: SAY THE LINE BART! Bart: In my copious time.... Class: YAAAAAAAAAAAY!
Maybe the real WoW was the friends we made along the way. Also I have a theory that everytime George posted a "words of wisdom", he was just indicating that finished another chapter 😢
Same happened before. GRRM is done with Asoiaf and WoW will never came out because he no longer works on it. It is a bit grim but he waits for the grim end so he won’t face consequences of his unfinisihed series. This way he is able to make time with other projects.
The way he expresses about TWoW tells wha a nag it is to him. Well, we'll be having him publishing a lot, but I don't think he really wants to finish ASOIAF. It simply doesn't appeal to him anymore.
Honestly, who the hell knows these days, I think it was just a joke referencing some nebulous “post winds world” rather than saying that that copious free time is now

I think the fact that George is doing all of this on his own, and has no interest in others planting in his garden, is the primary factor here. I’m not talking about a ghost writer, but I feel like his universe has gotten too big for just one person to handle, I feel like a team of people who respect and understand his work could really create something amazing.
this is probably copium but.... i refuse to give up hope, wow has never felt closer than this year. so many subtle hints. i have hope
I've been huffing copium since dance was released, and I'm hooked
Just a few months ago he literally said he only finished “a few pages” in the first half of the year. This means he wrote at least 2 pages but I can guarantee you no more than 50 (because that’s not a horrible number and if he did that he’d probably just say it).
If he was correct in saying the book was about 75% done a year ago, and needs at least a couple hundred more pages, we are still far off based on how little he progressed the first half of this year.
C’mon, man 😭
What thirteen years no Winds does to a person lol
@ 😂
impecable crazy person logic sir
There were 10+ years between the first Grey Alys story being published and GRRM starting work on ASOIAF, so I don't think "ASOIAF taking off" is the reason he didn't do more. Frankly, the dude very rarely finishes planned series. there's a part in Dreamsongs where he talks about his "patented 1 story series", i.e. stories he was going to write sequels to and never did, and there are quite a few of them. The warning signs for what was going to happen with ASOIAF were plain as day, but we didn't want to see.
I hope you are right; it would be so funny if a random UA-cam channel got it right compared to the big ASOIAF channels 😭
It better be close. I only have 20 hours left of A Dance with Dragons to listen to.
Eventually someone’s going to get the prediction right. Eventually…
He's also said he knows that the day he puts WofW to bed, the next book will still be there throwing shade on his 'copius free time'.
i like this. i dont think its true, but it gives me hope
I got a similar feeling from the post about BlueSky. Its really has the vibe like a big announcement is on the way but we cant say anything about it
I feel a little selfish saying this but I always knew sooner or later winds of winter would release. I'm worried about never getting dream of summer. So hearing about his copious plans for before finishing his magnum opus is kinda troubling to me.
everybody waiting for wow, george: here is some other stuff i'd rather work on
I hope you're right but I think he would just say he's done of he were done.
I wish you good fortune in your hopium to come.
In all seriousness, all one can do is hope you are right.
If this ends up being true then that means Winds Of Winter will be released before Protomen Act 3 and i find that incredibly funny
Tbh I really believe grrm will announce it's done as soon as it's done but idk if he means before or after editing
Where is a Dream Of Spring, George ?!
bro i havent even read these books but i hope your right😭
Part of me thinks he is likely using the truncated sentence as a reference, like a meme. But also I do actually think he is finishing it up rn beyond even WoW:
Class: SAY THE LINE BART!
Bart: In my copious time....
Class: YAAAAAAAAAAAY!
I love quality cope! Subscribed!
I'm pretty sure he always mentions it when talking about future projects because he doesn't want to get yelled at lol
Maybe the real WoW was the friends we made along the way. Also I have a theory that everytime George posted a "words of wisdom", he was just indicating that finished another chapter 😢
Considering he could just be omitting "after I finish Winds of Winter" from the sentence. I wouldn't hold my breath man.....
At this point I'm done getting my hopes up until I see it on the shelf.
Nah man. He's being sarcastic and optimistic about the time he has left.
Same happened before. GRRM is done with Asoiaf and WoW will never came out because he no longer works on it. It is a bit grim but he waits for the grim end so he won’t face consequences of his unfinisihed series. This way he is able to make time with other projects.
This man has become fully Damphair, this is our new voice of the Drowned God.
The amount of copium in this community is insane
Christmas day next month, george will tell us its done for sure
... right?
will GRRM release a second volume of AKOTSK?
he forgot to mention he hadn’t forgot about writing winds but forgot to write winds
Isn't "in my copious spare time" meant sarcastically? That's how I read it…
Cope notwithstanding, I’ll take it.
I liked the video not bc its reasonable just i hope youre right
Jesus more than 13 years is very long time i just want any hope i clutching onto
The way he expresses about TWoW tells wha a nag it is to him. Well, we'll be having him publishing a lot, but I don't think he really wants to finish ASOIAF. It simply doesn't appeal to him anymore.
You’ve got a new subscriber
Thank you!
Glidus shaking in his boots rn.
The answer is no, GRRM did not announce The Winds of Winter. I want my 4 minutes and 45 seconds back.
Forgive me, I am just a man who dares to dream of spring
@TheW1ndblown We'll have to content ourselves with fanfiction. GRRM is too busy making TV shows.
I would f*cking love for this to be true 😭
Honestly, who the hell knows these days, I think it was just a joke referencing some nebulous “post winds world” rather than saying that that copious free time is now
I love this fandom, where I can find like-minded fans filled with insanity-fuelled speculation
Let's just pray that it is in editing.
Guess he's either finished or given up on finishing 😅
Whats more insane? This video or the fact that it lowkey makes a small amount of sense
