What I Really Think About CitraBlue St Augustine Grass

- This is what I think about CitraBlue St Augustine grass a couple of months into working with it. The primary things I notice are the mowing frequency and mowing height differences. CitraBlue is dark bluegreen and stout. Will for sure choke out weeds as good or better than Floratam (my opinion).
This is not sponsored, I do it for love.

Anyone else notice Alan’s LCN sign board in the background with the other advertisers in the beginning of the video?? Nice slip in plug there Allyn. 👍👍
I was watching you and Cleetus before you guys got together to renovate the track. I was excited then and still excited that you guys got together to get that grass right at the track. I love what you have done to help him out and share your knowledge, cuz he surely needed it, the place was a wreck. To me seems like a perfect collaboration. Love getting Freedom Factory grass updates. BTW Thanks for all the videos which have helped me get my grass going the right way. Gave her some Flagship last week, she be happy happy😀
Same. I was watching LCN back when he was up north then started watching Cleet around the exhaust whistle video back in the day. Was super pumped as well.
Put down citra blue in the backyard little over year ago. Highly recommend it. Low vertical growth. Repairs itself pretty quickly, handles foot traffic better than other St Augustine varieties.
how does it feel walking on it? is it a barefoot grass?
Our grandmother was the only one in her neighborhood with St. Augustine - everyone else had Zoysia or Bermuda. But, she would have a fit if you talked about getting a herbicide anywhere near it.
smart woman!
I've had my Citra Blue lawn for 1 year now in SW Florida and it has been amazing, I have had some pest pressure recently not sure what has gotten it but it repairs itself very fast. Mow it low!
I'm considering this. How is it with water? With all the watering restrictions here (I live close to Tampa) it's a struggle to keep my St. Augustine alive. I'm considering replacing the dead St. Augustine with this.
@@matty6212 once it got established and soil is good once a week would be enough, bounced back really well after the drought and I use hydretain
the slower growth natures makes it better with water from the jump. So it's better than Floratam for sure
Thanks guys, really appreciate the feedback. This is good to know, looks like I need to pull the trigger on this (at least for the dead sections that get beat on the sun day after day).
@@dppisgr81whew I water way different but I have the MP nozzles. I water about 45 mins on odd days and 30 on even. So when we had that month of no rain I was green greeen
Allyn, I hope you are not floating away with all that rain I think you are getting in Florida. Seems like the drought will be over with the amount of rain you are receiving now. Take care!
Thanks Mark! I guess the news has it looking pretty grimm down here from what I hear. We have gotten about 7" here overall but it hasn't flooded or anything. Most people who live in areas that are prone to flooding understand it and expect it so it's not always as bad as it may seem (or you just hear NY transplants complaining about it ha ha!!!)
@@Thelawncarenut Glad to hear you are doing well. My late father in law always talked about drainage. As a homeowner, I see the value and understand what he was talking about now. Sounds like you have great drainage!😀
We need more ProVista content!
Would this variety of st Augustine do well in the Dallas Fort Worth area of Texas?
Lawn care nut, do you prefer this or ProVista? I'm looking for a low-maintenance grass that looks nice in North Florida winters.
What about the citrazoy?
Check out that logo in turn 1. Grouped up with the other local sponsors.
super cool right? thanks for noticing!
CB STA is the best!!! I replied with my photo on your Twitter. If I could DM aid send more wider

Isnthisnthe same as Bitter blue? I am having it installed next week, what would you suggest I mow it at?
I hope this is a better alternative to ProVista. My ProVista can’t repair itself due to the growth regulator being so overpowered. Even when throwing a ton of N down.
it's a toss up because ProVista is glypho tolerant which means less herbicide use overall and a single tool for almost all. That's tough to beat. Maybe you can find a place locally that can get PV by the piece for you?
between citra blue and pv which one do you prefer?
CB to me is better
@@GamerGee yeah leaning towards it to
@@GamerGeeWhy is it better for you?
@@mlee9049 floratam is easiest to catch gray leaf and fungus in its grass than citrablue. If I see it’s going to rain plentiful and I see any red tops on grass I spray heritage sc and it all goes away. I’m on my second year and I’ve had zero fungus problems with the grass.
@@GamerGee Thanks. I'm trying to stay away from synthetic pesticides and herbicides.
I really like that grass type, it looks good. However walk on it without shoes 😂
To me 2 1/4 inches is super high as I mow at 1/2 inch.
FREEDOM GRASS!!
Sounds like walking on celery lol
Beautiful saint Augustine, grass. Never seen seeing Augustine, cut so short before and looks so great. What would you recommend for centipede grass height of cut ?
I got the 100th like 👍 let's Gooo !! What would be sweet is if I won a bag of product lol
hoorah!
💪💪
I just wanna hang with alan for half a day for the accent. Despite needing help with my zoysia
😂
Deja vu
Flooding
you know not the believe the news. Also, had a convo about our convo. Keep it on the DL but I should have you taken care of by early August. 😉 🤔
Not a barefoot grass? Says who?? St Augustine feels good barefoot but if you’re comparing to fescue it is just a different feeling.
Looks awsome but sounds like ur walking on potato chips lol
feels like it too!
Still waiting to see the e-bike ripping it on the track!
I got a tray of the citrablue plugs to try in my shady areas here in Texas. So far it’s growing well in an area that my regular St. Augustine refused to grow. Great stuff.
Man that’s good news! I have a couple shady areas that my Raleigh struggles in, and I have been wondering about Citra Blue??👍🏽
@@joehernandez550 it doesn’t grow near as fast as the regular St Augustine and is supposed to be more drought tolerant. I’m putting it in at the edges of my irrigation system so hopefully it will do well with slightly less water. I just sprayed it with fourplay this morning along with my other spots that always have problems with burn off/ water retention. I’m definitely going to be ordering a few more trays for those shady corners that only get a few hours of direct sunlight or dappled light because of the fences and trees. I’d resod the yard with it if it ever is available in pallet loads in Texas.
That grass sings baby 😮
You should do a class on how to identify different types of St Augustine grass😊!
We have citrablue and it’s just not doing well. Using the flagship and rgs and good watering it’s just struggling. Our growth rate is just slow. Any tips on this? We are in Vero beach FL. Maybe you could do a video just on citrablue?
hit it with Flagship again. Hit it every 4 weeks and it will get moving. ALso make sure you are mowing down around 2.5"
Funny thing about those clouds coming into your weather scene, finally can say rain, rain, go away and come back another day.
It does look great
Can u help me on this a friend has a new Saint Augustine grass and nut sedge is taking over a lot of it can I use something on it?
Halo and Celsius combo. Halo is for the sedge. And/or you can use sedge hammer
