    The new construction clay situation is so frustrating and no one else online is talking about it.
    Really appreciate your videos on this issue.

      It really is. I can't stand seeing new lawns destroyed because the soil is so bad. It's sad the amount of work that needs to be done to a new lawn to help ot thrive.

      I noticed this when they built two houses in my neighborhood. Mine was built 40 years ago but it was the same process when I saw them lay sod on top of crappy construction grade dirt that had been graded or anything it made complete sense. My entire yard has washed away, nothing but sand and clay after 3-4 inches. This video is going to bring my yard back to life!

    Chad is 100% right. I have used both of these products and it works. The Command is kind of expensive……..I paid around $16 a bag so I was mixing the black cow and play sand. I would put it down and then go over it with a lawn leveler to smooth out any bumps or dips in the grass.

      These mixes work great. I'm glad they helped you in your lawn.

    Watched your prior video on black kow and play sand. Used it on a few problem areas in my St. Augustine lawn. Reapplied twice (probably didn’t apply enough first time.) Grass is coming in well and no needless resodding. Thanks!

    Explains why the st Augustine grass lawn all struggle in NE Texas. We have a one inch layer of topsoil and a mile deep of clay. 😂

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  2 місяці тому +1

      Yepp!! That's definitely tough. Get some sandier soil in there as well as doing aerations in the springtime.

      @bettercallchadd I'm in north Florida, and our builder is planning to lay our Saint Augustine on top of the reddish brown lot fill they used to elevate the lot. Is this a bad idea?

    Anywhere there is construction there's going to be compaction. I love black kow but I use their topsoil which is sandy/loam like to fill in spots in my yard. The only vice I have for their topsoil is that it does have weed seed in it.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  3 місяці тому +1

      Yess!! I need to check that out!! The original black kow can have some seeds in it as well.

    Great video! New construction is mostly a plot of land that has been cleared, stump ground to a minimum, fill dirt brought in (clay included or not) first 1-6” fill dirt depending on wether previous low area. Horrible for lawns/gardens. Soil needs to be amended in order to have success. It takes time. Sod/ seeded is only a temporary solution. Soil needs attention

    Hello, I would like to ask how to add sand to the soil. Should I spread the sand directly on the soil? If you have a video show, I would be very grateful.

    My first question is whats causing the soil to be "wet" as you described?

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  2 місяці тому +1

      It's the bland of clay sand they use as well as compaction. All three of these factors cause the water to sit and not drain through as it should.

    I am in Saint Johns (Julington Creek) and need quite a few bags of Comand Lawn and Turf. Since you are from this area, do you know where I can get them? (I need around 15-20 bags.)

      Mix black kow 1:1 with leveling sand. It’s the same formula as command per this channel.

    How much comand would need to be added per 1k sq ft?

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  3 місяці тому +1

      It depends on how rough the lawn is. I would say, on average, 1 yard per 1,000 sqft.

    Should I be concerned about adding this mixture with sand to clay soil and it then turning cement like? I’ve seen a lot of opinions elsewhere and it is not advised. I’m in SE Texas.
