As someone who just switched from Premiere+utility LUTS to Resolve...I feel like everyone should just be on Resolve at this point. Everything is so much better and your color will be that much better out of Resolve. Even just grading in Resolve, then exporting a LUT for that project and putting it onto your Premiere footage has been better than me grading in Premiere and using the Buttery LUTS, Stalman LUTs, Arri-like LUTs etc.
I feel ya, I do love coloring in resolve I just hate bouncing between programs… And whenever I work with a team for commercial work Premiere is king, at least for now, I never run into production companies cutting in Resolve. So I gotta stick with Adobe. The custom LUT method is interesting though… I’ll have to test that out!
@@SoundItOutFilms I definitely get the switching back and forth especially trying to export XML's and all that nonsense. I've done the LUT export on a few projects and each time I've been really happy with how it's exported and applied from a LUT. I felt like I could really nail my skin tones in Resolve where in Premiere I don't feel like I have the tools to do that nearly as well.
Finally, someone who asks about the red channel with the phantom lut. I thought that I was potentially using it wrong due to it being such a drastic shift when I've used it. That's what's kept me from using it much more often. Great video.
I love Joel's luts SO much! I shoot on an fx3 and having those baby's loaded in a monitor. Woooweeeee. No joke, it completely changed the way my films looked going forward. Mainly using the monitor to check exposure and being able to see the lut over the slog 3
One huge shoutout I can give Joel and his Luts are that Ive recieved so many updated packs for my Blackmagic which means the purchase will always improve and get better. Thats a huge selling point.
Same here, and if you want to add an stylistic LUT you can use the film print emulations that comes with DR. I don't really find LUTs very useful since I'm using DR. I just create my own powergrades
Color Managed workflow is actually better, especially if working in a production because the Director and the DOP wants to see how they shot the clip, and so they can give the colorist a better direction on how to achieve their vision
I just purchased the Buttery LUTS!! Can’t wait to do my own tests this week!! Thank you for providing us with very insightful information!!! Especially with the c70!!
thanks for all your posts. I bought the Phantom Luts through your link. Is there one that I could add to my Canon C70 as the Arri lut? Not sure how to do that, as well there are so many variations it seems of the Arri lut? Much appreciated!
I've been using Lutify me for awhile for stylized LUTs. I actually, remarkably, have been doing what you've been doing without knowing you do it which is using Stalman's LUT, then applying a look. For dirt cheap, Lutify me supplies you with a ridiculous amount of LUTs and they're always updating them. Included are pretty much every movie you could want. I actually gravitate towards the Joker and Black Panther movie looks as well but I am curious how these compare to the Joker LUT you're using. If I supply you with them, can you use them to compare in a video? It might be a good topic considering how cheap Lutify me is and just how much you get for your money. Just the Teal and Orange LUT options within their pack is ridiculous, let alone their "cinema looks". Which, are unrelate to their "movie inspired" stuff.
stalman lut is insanely good and i love it. the phantom lut is awesome too. these too are freaking nuts and be all end all luts for canon c70. however, i prefer the stalman and provided stalman creative lut cause it looks finish and both of those are created with each other in mind
How would this transfor to DaVinci? I never use conversion LUTs as i use CST. But love the Alexa feel so not sure I could use this approach inside DaVinci? I feel a little lost :)
Have you tried CineMatch? I ended up getting a license for a specific project and it's quite an interesting plugin. Sometimes I literally just add CineMatch to whatever camera profile and convert them to Arri LogC and transform into 709 and it looks pretty decent. Curious to know I you'd tried it.
This is what I do too-I have a C200 and Pocket 6K. While I've never shot on Arri, CineMatch certainly 'matches' the C200 and Pocket 6K perfectly when I convert both to Arri Log C. It's really incredible!
Question for you!! Do you have an export lut you use with Premiere to solve the problem that happens when you export videos on Premiere and they get washed out?
Hi! Thanks for the video, just downloaded the phantom luts. I would like to know your node tree in resolve. Do you perform wb, contrast and saturation adjustments before or after the LUT? Thanks a lot!
I don’t understand how is it that when you apply all these lots that the contrast doesn’t just get crushed because that’s what happens to me all the time and I’m using the black magic andxh2
I run a small video production company in London. You're videos are fab. Great advise. I have a question. What LUTS should I download to help us match our Canon EOS R6 footage with a C70?
Thank for all c70 tips and tricks! I feel like I already know enough to pul the trigger on C70 so the big question is do you think buying c70 in late 2022 is good idea? I feel like if I buy it they will announce c70 mark 2 or c90
I really dig Joels work. I just find that the C70 to Arri Neutral LUT breaks apart on my external Monitor (SmallHD 702 Touch) Like full colour banding, do you get this? Also slightly does it when pixel peeping on DR software...
How does this compare to the Arri LUT already available in Resolve? I use that one to convert my c70 footage and it’s pretty good. I’m curious about how his is different
That lut is designed for the Arri log curve, which is different than Clog2 or Clog3. It's not super different though, so it is workable. It's kinda like wearing really nice shoes that are slightly the wrong size.
I purchased the Stalman LUT after the last video, and while it is nice, I find the blues to be really, really, saturated. Does anyone else find this? Yes, I can tone them down, but out of the box, they're really hot.
Lut schmutt. Nothing is an Arri. I just bought one. It's like no other camera I've ever used. There is a reason Game of Thrones and %90 of movies use it.
You guys overthink this too much! Just color to the vibes man! Who cares! You throwing a creative lut anyways like that’s not going to change skin tone anyway lol
If you're also a C70 shooter I have a nearly 4-hour Canon C70 course! Linked here: www.ericwalkervideo.com/c70
The best content for C70 out there
For the Davinci Resolve users out there, the standard Arri Alexa logC to rec709 lut also actually looks pretty good on c70 clog2 footage.
ever tried it on r5/6
@@The_Idea_of_Dream_Vision No I only tested it on the c70.

@@SoundItOutFilms But DR now has a better cloud collab than premiere does. It will change very soon.
I just picked up the C70 and got these luts two days ago! Wish this came out a couple days earlier

Tried out the Phantom Lut, I feel like it is overrated if you already use Davinci resolve
wow ur content is refreshing!
love watching your tests and experiment with the c70!
I've been using Buttery on my projects and just bought the Phantom... they are my favorite now as well.
Thanks for the tip
Sometimes I just use a colour space transform from Clog2 into Arri Log 🤷 works great then I grade from there
Same here, and if you want to add an stylistic LUT you can use the film print emulations that comes with DR. I don't really find LUTs very useful since I'm using DR. I just create my own powergrades

Exactly. No need to jump thru hoops
Thanks for the video. Love that phantom lut. Purchased the Butternut Luts but never liked them.
Love your content! Learning so much from your videos about color and my C70!

Big fan of the buttery Luts. I use them on my eos r6. Literally buttery after grading. Ha.
I like the buttery luts more.

Definitely Phantom and shoot clog3 in both
The best way to color match for me has been CST on Davinci Resolve. It's just amazing!
If you need help let me know

I feel like we’re not too far away from something like that or a C200 mark II
So these Luts you put it in the adjustment layer under creative? While using corrective lut as the base?
Curious how well these look/work with Clog3 footage...
Little tip, edit the 'before' part of the thumbnail. Make the highlights blow out. the vid will perform way better.
Ha! You’re 1000% right
any chance to have a look at the crimson engine luts?
he does alot of canon contents, he even has a masterclass for canon cameras
Haven’t used them. Let me know what you think if you buy em !

Do you by any chance know how the LUTs will perform with a canon r5c?
what editing software is this for?
Great info!
Has anyone tried the Arri neutral with R5 clog3 cinemagammut?
I have on r5c. Stunning
Good vid, thanks.
Out of interest, what sort of soft are you hoping to produce?

Not an insult but the shots infront of the color checker, you look like a Tony Hawk game character
Great
What lenses were you using for your darwin deez documentary ? Looks very nice. Thanks !
Thanks! I go into that in this vid
