A Canon T2i and Magic Lantern changed my life about 12 years ago. That's when I figured out that I personally could actually shoot good quality video. I was a still photographer and had been trying to teach myself how to shoot video and the camcorder I was using wasn't cutting it....but I thought it was ME who wasn't cutting it. That's when a buddy of mine turned me on to the Canon T2i and Magic Lantern. One of the biggest things for me was that Magic Lantern gave me so much more control of the audio on the T2i. Suddenly you had audio levels right on the screen! Not to mention zebras and tons of exposure control. I've graduated to more advanced cameras now but I still have that T2i to this day...and even bought a second one for a two camera setup back then. I had no idea Magic Lantern was even still a thing! Glad to hear it's still hanging in there!
Stupid question but does the t2i get features like higher bit depth video or anything like that? Have one laying around but had no idea you could hack the firmware haha
@@b3arodactyl No higher bit depth unfortunately. You can't change the hardware. But the ML hack does give you almost total control over the camera. Oh my god, I haven't heard of magic lantern in so long! I used it on my 600d (t3i) like 6-7 years ago, it was cool but that camera definitely didn't have the capability to handles it at it's best. Also the 5D had some lagginess when you were using ml on it. Honestly I think that the 2k prores of the Alexa it's still a better image (technical specifications and mere resolution apart) since the ale sensor is a really well tuned piece of hardware but I understand the need of a smaller and lighter camera. The Alexa definitely works at peak performance in a well structurated set. Great contents, the series about the Alexa restoration has been really fun to watch. Keep it up!
I've shot two shorts with ML on the Canon 7D. Still looks pretty darn good. Only problem is very dense foliage and things like that, it tends to become rather garbled and chroma-blurred.
There’s a ton of really good conversion LUTs for clog that gives you Arri colors. This is cool because of the price of the M but dynamic range and the roll off is what really makes an Arri standout. The M is just never going to be able to achieve that because it’s the sensor. Which, of course you covered in your video.
