    You said it! There is a very easy learning curve to use the Magic Lantern hack but the quality that this camera produces just blows my mind for the price. With the right lens you footage is gonna pop- I favor the TTArtisan 35mm. For less than 300$ you can be set up with an incredible kit. I wish someone had told me this before I spent hours upon hours watching vids on overpriced high end cameras like the GH6 / S5 /sigma etc… save your money.

      S5 is far from overpriced. Stabilization, full frame, 10 bit log, dual iso, 4k 60 etc, unthinkable not that long ago. It outperforms some dslr flagships from nikon and canon in low light.

      @@PaulHarwood856 I know, i thought it would be a big deal but after a while i concluded that for me footage with crop was still good, 60/120/180 fps in 1080 is good, and i shoot 24fps almost all the time anyway. To get that noncropped slomo you pretty much have to double de budget and get an a7s3 or something. So it's still not overpriced, i can't fathom how the gh6 is priced higher.

    A Canon T2i and Magic Lantern changed my life about 12 years ago. That's when I figured out that I personally could actually shoot good quality video. I was a still photographer and had been trying to teach myself how to shoot video and the camcorder I was using wasn't cutting it....but I thought it was ME who wasn't cutting it. That's when a buddy of mine turned me on to the Canon T2i and Magic Lantern. I still remember how joyous it was to realize in just one weekend that I could shoot SO MUCH BETTER video than I thought I could. One of the biggest things for me was that Magic Lantern gave me so much more control of the audio on the T2i. Suddenly you had audio levels right on the screen! Not to mention zebras and tons of exposure control. I've graduated to more advanced cameras now but I still have that T2i to this day...and even bought a second one for a two camera setup back then. I had no idea Magic Lantern was even still a thing! Glad to hear it's still hanging in there!

    • @b3arodactyl
      @b3arodactyl 2 роки тому

      Stupid question but does the t2i get features like higher bit depth video or anything like that? Have one laying around but had no idea you could hack the firmware haha

    • @TerryWindell
      @TerryWindell 2 роки тому

      @@b3arodactyl No higher bit depth unfortunately. You can't change the hardware. But the ML hack does give you almost total control over the camera. Features that we take for granted on today's DSLRs were hidden and/or crippled on the T2i. It won't turn your camera into a Sony A7S mIII, but it's totally worth it. Plus lenses for this camera are cheap and with an adapter you can mount just about any lens. Hope that helps.

      @@WillCaban The "Nifty Fifty" is a great kit lens. Yes, it has a few shortcomings, but once you know the limitations you can easily just work around them. And for the $$$s, that lens is a steal! And yes, even back then Canon's color science was pretty amazing.

    Oh my god, I haven't heard of magic lantern in so long! I used it on my 600d (t3i) like 6-7 years ago, it was cool but that camera definitely didn't have the capability to handles it at it's best. Also the 5D had some lagginess when you were using ml on it. Honestly I think that the 2k prores of the Alexa it's still a better image (technical specifications and mere resolution apart) since the ale sensor is a really well tuned piece of hardware but I understand the need of a smaller and lighter camera. The Alexa definitely works at peak performance in a well structurated set.
    Great contents, the series about the Alexa restoration has been really fun to watch. Keep it up!

    There’s a ton of really good conversion LUTs for clog that gives you Arri colors. This is cool because of the price of the M but dynamic range and the roll off is what really makes an Arri standout. The M is just never going to be able to achieve that because it’s the sensor.

    This is easy to get going and setup and the picture is great but be aware the higher resolutions and raw video do not run that long and it crashes like crazy but when you find the right settings and C Mount lens things get interesting
    Also in most of the interesting settings, the View screen is unusable.
    To say the rolling shutter is horrible is an understatement. Moving the camera is not recommended.

    Global shutter? Different sensor size… stops of dynamic range… list goes on and on… Alexa with 2k has better image than most of 4K cameras. It’s a great thing what you can get from the M with Magic Lantern, but even a BMPCC would make the work better.

    I wonder if this software would work on a canon D90

    that leads down a rabbit whole of technical geeking where you lose yourself in bits and codecs and formats and completely forget about the story you wanted to tell. this kind of technical detail is interesting for large movie crews in which you have one or more persons just dealing with the video recording aspects. ask yourself: why are the apple products popular among content creators? because they dont distract their costumers with technical details from their actual task. they just work for the kind of task they are intended for. thats also the reason in my opinion why smartphones are so popular for taking pictures and making videos. its not because they are small. its because you cannot change any settings. you just press record and any time and work and energy from your side goes into the story, the locations, the lighting, etc... wow, that has become a long comment. its NOT meant as a critic, its just my thoughts.
