@@ScareTheater I'm old, so I remember the first 4 years of youtube. The "atheist community" came out of this, and debunking things and pushing for rationality became a cause. I believe it is actually extremely damaging to society to have so many people pushing conspiracies and lies. UA-cam actually went backwards starting in 2012, along with social media once these algorithms started kicking. You could not have had Q-Anon reach as many people in 2010 as you could in 2018. We now have a large portion of the U.S. population that thinks they are living in a world full of demons, shapeshifters, pizzarias that serve child sex in their basements, etc. And all these videos and claims that go without being challenged leads to the delusional ideologies that become mainstream. If you think demons are amongst us, then its not a far leap to also think demonic cults exist...and if they exist, then why not claim Hillary Clinton is their dark priest. And so on, and so on.

I'm from Mexico (CDMX) and I had never heard about this woman until I first heard about this case. I feel like if she was as big of a super model as they say that she was, she should have made an appearance on a Mexican TV show on Televisa or Imagen TV. Like everyone else said, she was probably just a regular woman having a manic breakdown, but because she was just somebody and not a high profiled person, she would have only had a minor mention in the local news. If this was really a high class supermodel, all the gossip news stations would have been all over it.

Glad you talked about this. It always bugged me, the idea of a cabal erasing everything about a famous model. Especially in 2008. All I could think was "scrubbed everything? Every tabloid, every magazine? What about the ones people bought?" I know the theory focuses on internet media, but 2008 still focused on analog media even with digital. I feel bad for her honestly. Talking about mental illness and doing something about it is rather recent in Mexico. I would say that in 2009 it was still highly stigmatized. I’m Mexican and raised by very Mexican parents in Houston. I was about 19 in 2011 and very depressed due to not having legal status in the US. My mom would get really upset and tell me I just needed to clean the house. Not that I was messy but she said deep cleaning would cure all my “mood swings” or “mal humor”. This woman was clearly suffering and I hope she received some help.

Excuse my English. This happened in my hometown. That case wasn't a big deal until a few years ago. I suppose that someone found this video of a random woman having a breakdown (which this kind of stuff is very common in the Mexican news. They found random drunk or mentally ill people and broadcast them to locate their relatives or just to mock them) and created a "creepypasta" about her. Besides that, no one in Monterrey nor Nuevo León knew this case before of that made-up story. According to some sources, she was sent to a public asylum in the south of Monterrey. That asylum closed just a month ago and was reopened in another location in the north of the state. So, if she's alive, she could be there.

Mysterious disappearances are scary because they can happen to almost anyone at almost any time. It's not a phenomenon pertaining only to a certain demographic, we're ALL vulnerable to it. Also I wouldn't really count Elisa Lam as a disappearance since they found her body so soon and in same place. I moreso look at her case as a mysterious/questionable death.
@@tylertheguy3160 It was a tragic story, but people have since proven that it's easier to get where she ended up than previously thought, and she had a habit of taking photos from rooftops. Basically the people initially publicizing her death as some sort of scary mystery either didn't research or left out extremely relevant details.

If Ms Jiminez had been medicated for her psychosis at times over the decade she supposedly “disappeared” it makes perfect sense her appearance would change. Aside from the simple passing of time, antipsychotic medications are notorious for causing fairly significant weight gain as well as facial changes (ticks, drooping muscles, etc.). I’ve no doubt , as with so many other mentally ill folks, Ms Jiminez struggled to stay on her medication and stay well over time. Furthermore, if she was staying in hospitals or other facilities for the mentally ill, of course there would be little information regarding her whereabouts during her hospital stays. Just as it is in the US, people’s privacy concerning their health and healthcare is protected in Mexico. Moreover, Mexico’s stated funded medical care allows for the indigent and poverty stricken to stay in hospitals for care, something which is more complicated and expensive in the USA…even after Obamacare.

As a former model stan, the fact her name did not lead to any model agency website through any search engine made the story fall apart quickly for me. Considering her "pre-breakdown fame", her outburst should have hit all kinds of news in Mexico and would have found its way to news outside as well fairly quickly. "Right to be Forgotten" is a thing, sure, but it's very difficult to enforce due to people archiving or reuploading any info on any "forgotten one" back on the internet once the dust had settled - good luck being "forgotten" by the internet as a former super model (since, you know, special interest forums exist)!
I get how people can make the claim that all digital evidence was wiped, but what about physical productions of "her work" such as magazines or photo reels? Surely if she was a well-known and respected model, there'd be at least one person who had even a single image of her they could send photographs of for evidence? Hey just wanted to say, you kinda put me off by off-handedly calling this woman who is obviously in distress a “random schizo” at the start and then later saying, while viewing a photo of her when she’s a decade older and no longer as small as she was at 21, that “maybe she just let herself go.” What was the point in describing her like that…? Even if it is fake, for a spanish speaking perspective, her speech is chilling. I think the odd choice of words she makes kinda gets lost in translation, but her using "asquerosidad" which is a somewhat uncommon way of saying (something is disgusting) is so strange, off putting and it just freaks me out a lot. Eating human flesh could be horrifying, horrible, nightmarish, but the way she called it "completely disgusting" really turns my stomach for some reason. If she really believes what she's saying that's sad. She sounds like she's in a lot of pain mentally.

@@ScareTheater I'm old, so I remember the first 4 years of youtube. The "atheist community" came out of this, and debunking things and pushing for rationality became a cause. I believe it is actually extremely damaging to society to have so many people pushing conspiracies and lies.
UA-cam actually went backwards starting in 2012, along with social media once these algorithms started kicking. You could not have had Q-Anon reach as many people in 2010 as you could in 2018. We now have a large portion of the U.S. population that thinks they are living in a world full of demons, shapeshifters, pizzarias that serve child sex in their basements, etc.
And all these videos and claims that go without being challenged leads to the delusional ideologies that become mainstream. If you think demons are amongst us, then its not a far leap to also think demonic cults exist...and if they exist, then why not claim Hillary Clinton is their dark priest. And so on, and so on.

I feel like if she was as big of a super model as they say that she was, she should have made an appearance on a Mexican TV show on Televisa or Imagen TV. Talking about mental illness and doing something about it is rather recent in Mexico. I would say that in 2009 it was still highly stigmatized. I’m Mexican and raised by very Mexican parents in Houston. I was about 19 in 2011 and very depressed due to not having legal status in the US. My mom would get really upset and tell me I just needed to clean the house. Not that I was messy but she said deep cleaning would cure all my “mood swings” or “mal humor”. This woman was clearly suffering and I hope she received some help.

This happened in my hometown. That case wasn't a big deal until a few years ago. I suppose that someone found this video of a random woman having a breakdown (which this kind of stuff is very common in the Mexican news. They found random drunk or mentally ill people and broadcast them to locate their relatives or just to mock them) and created a "creepypasta" about her. Besides that, no one in Monterrey nor Nuevo León knew this case before of that made-up story. According to some sources, she was sent to a public asylum in the south of Monterrey. That asylum closed just a month ago and was reopened in another location in the north of the state. So, if she's alive, she could be there.

If Ms Jiminez had been medicated for her psychosis at times over the decade she supposedly “disappeared” it makes perfect sense her appearance would change. Aside from the simple passing of time, antipsychotic medications are notorious for causing fairly significant weight gain as well as facial changes (ticks, drooping muscles, etc.). I’ve no doubt , as with so many other mentally ill folks, Ms Jiminez struggled to stay on her medication and stay well over time.
Furthermore, if she was staying in hospitals or other facilities for the mentally ill, of course there would be little information regarding her whereabouts during her hospital stays. Just as it is in the US, people’s privacy concerning their health and healthcare is protected in Mexico. Moreover, Mexico’s stated funded medical care allows for the indigent and poverty stricken to stay in hospitals for care, something which is more complicated and expensive in the USA…even after Obamacare.

Considering her "pre-breakdown fame", her outburst should have hit all kinds of news in Mexico and would have found its way to news outside as well fairly quickly. "Right to be Forgotten" is a thing, sure, but it's very difficult to enforce due to people archiving or reuploading any info on any "forgotten one" back on the internet once the dust had settled - good luck being "forgotten" by the internet as a former super model (since, you know, special interest forums exist)!

Hey just wanted to say, you kinda put me off by off-handedly calling this woman who is obviously in distress a “random schizo” at the start and then later saying, while viewing a photo of her when she’s a decade older and no longer as small as she was at 21, that “maybe she just let herself go.” What was the point in describing her like that…? It just comes off as weirdly cruel to insult her multiple times like that, especially as someone who’s mental health episode has been spread all around the internet and exploited to further conspiracy theories and other wild narratives. It’s kind of a shitty thing to do honestly.
I feel the same. Normally I love this channel but the way this woman was talked about felt very mean-spirited for no reason. Just the term "schizo" made me genuinely wince, as I have never heard that word outside of a super derogatory context for people struggling with schizophrenia.

There are even countless stories of victims seeking help from police and other authorities, yet their stories being disbelieved or dismissed solely for the reason of their abuser seeming calm and forthcoming (abuser sharing embarrassing details of themselves to appear like they are being honest, because they know these people hearing their story will think “well if he was lying about this he wouldn’t have told me that embarrassing detail, he would have just made himself look better”). Even if it is fake, for a spanish speaking perspective, her speech is chilling. I think the odd choice of words she makes kinda gets lost in translation, but her using "asquerosidad" which is a somewhat uncommon way of saying (something is disgusting) is so strange, off putting and it just freaks me out a lot. Eating human flesh could be horrifying, horrible, nightmarish, but the way she called it "completely disgusting" really turns my stomach for some reason.
