In late 2022, a Reddit user made a series of posts detailing their experience as a member of a dangerous cult. Initially approached with skepticism, it was found that the cult they are describing is very real.

Because 95% of the time those "emergency help" posts are complete bullshit made up for karma
they're like personified marvel movies they are incapable of understanding complex nuanced situations and responding to them without making a low effort quip

@Giran The one that Scare Theater covered previously was also incredible obvious, the guy who didn't know if he was Asian or not but knew how reddit and Discord worked 100%. Thousands of very naive people believed him and attacked ST over it.

I’ve actually tried to talk to Yang Xiangbin. I asked her if she still needed help. I researched a lot about what happened. Where she lived. What cult she was in with her husband. The scary part was I found an Asian web page all about people looking for their mothers sisters and wives and they post stuff on it about how each one lost there loved ones to this stupid “eastern lightning” It’s really very sad. Yang wouldn’t answer me but I got in a fight with a member.
Anything coming out of China on the internet is approved for release by the CCP, or put out themselves. I don't know what this web page you saw was, but you should take anything on it with a grain of salt.

The minute you mentioned the name of the cult leader, I immediately went "oh no, Eastern Lightning". I knew that the cult was infamous in China, but I didn't think they were *this* violent in their beliefs.

I was a member of eastern lightning once. Thankfully it was for only a few months. I had a friend who had been separated from her child and husband, her husband wasn't a member of the cult. She was made to move to France from her home in china so she could recruit more members, I happened to be one of those recruits.
I didn't realise it was a cult, I just thought I had a group of friends that wanted to talk about Jesus. One day they asked me to sing a hymn during one of these daily get togethers (if I ever missed a day they would get very upset at me and tell me it was Satan trying to get me) and I picked a cat stevens song. They acted so weird about it and laughed at me. They then told me to pick one of the eastern lightning songs next time. I told my boyfriend about it and he was like... are you in a cult? If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have known and would still be a member.

this group actually has huge branches on facebook. my brother and I both got contacted by one of their members through facebook. her profile looked almost like a stock photo with high camera quality, everybody posing and saturation to make the photo look brighter. We figured that they were a group of Chinese christians who immigrated to our country and were sharing their version of christianity with us, so we were kind of curious about it. we asked if we could visit their church in person (lol) but they were responding incredibly vaguely.
they have a big website with a huge library of videos, mostly recordings of them singing songs and such. they do a lot of livestreams which i believe are pre-made and go in a cycle. the people looked friendly enough but once you know the backstory then it makes a lot more sense. they left us alone so I think that they are probably befriending people on a massive scale and focus on the few people who reciprocate attention.
I got recruited from facebook because I mentioned that I was an ex christian wanting to get back into my faith and needed guidence. I had no idea it was a cult and it is scary how fast they indoctrinate you. They want to do group skype calls daily with you and then get very weird if you ever miss a day. Like they start telling you that it means that satan is trying to intervine with your path towards jesus and the closer you get to the truth the harder it becomes. It took me many years to unlearn the stuff they teach you. You're not allowed to be a free thinker, you have to follow everything they say or it's satan!

Effort?! He edited in the same asian woman falling backwards WITHIN 3 MINUTES maybe even shorter. The same pictures reused over and over and zoomed in. "I'm not sure what they mean by two souls" so either research more, or don't include it. This is one of the most low effort videos I've watched in a while and I'm not unsubbed. Content is much worse, much lower effort, but he's back for what they all come back for: money. Pay 5 dollars a month to watch him stream playing CHECKERS 4 times in the month? He does realize a twitch sub is 5 and they stream a whole hell of a lot more, right?

I think you missed some important context re: the Gaocao (the college entrance exam in China); it determines the ENTIRE future of students in China. It's so serious traffic, airplanes, and ALL NOISE shut down to prevent disruption to students around the test sites. It's WILD. If you fail you can't function in life. There's no future for failures.

Watched the video of the cultists killing the woman and it still baffles me how many videos of China of incidents like these were people just stay there and watch, and I wonder why is that? I seen videos all around other places of people getting in and helping the victim, heck, even here when I was a teenager I still remember a guy who was threatening to hit her wife in a bus while spanking her in the head and calling her stupid, EVERYONE got in to defend her even the driver, cultists would be lucky to leave with a few broken bones if they did that in a public place like McDonalds here, but yeah, everytime they mention China I know there'll be a lot of people doing nothing about it, sorry chinese people, I know there are good people over there as well but it's incredible how many videos like this exist
