It really does seem that while James Ryan truly does love his son, it seems he convinced himself that there was something else that put him in this state than whatever illness he has. And it's sad that both the parents believe more _the conspiracies_ than the genuine issue Jimmy has.
He also basically admits that Jimmy had a disease from the start since the supposed plastic bag incident happened when he was in the hospital for a cold, which is really something that is only done on people whose immune systems are screwed in the first place.
Yeah I've seen this a lot before, people claiming anything from medical malpractice to accidents to demons or the devil because it gives them something to blame.
My son was born in Japan prematurely (around 25 weeks), after 2 days of being born the doctor decided it was time to put him face down (prone positioning) to improve his breathing and make it easier for his lungs. However, after they did this he suffered a severe brain hemorrhage that required a surgery and a permanent Ventriculoperitoneal shunt to drain the liquid from his brain. We always wondered if putting him face down caused all of this, of course the doctors always said that's not the case, but then it is just a big coincidence that it happened at the same time. My wife still blames the doctor, I just think it is something nobody could have predicted. Anyways, those weeks when he suffered the brain hemorrhage were so hard for everyone, watching an innocent baby suffer so much takes a toll on your mental health, so I can understand Jim and his quest to help his son in whatever way possible. In our case it reached to a point where any call we got from the hospital would just make our anxiety skyrocket. Fortunately in our case our son is healthier now, even though the brain hemorrhage will definitely cause him some mobility troubles according to the doctors, however, I am happy just him feeling no pain nor suffering, because that is something I can't deal with anymore.
U can and should blame doctors and people should more often, when I was a kid they tried to tell my mom my 105 degree fever was manifested from “missing his father” and only until I got a catscan did they realize I had pneumonia and bronchitis for months
Bruh it is the doctors fault. Who tf sees a baby having trouble breathing and is like “ah yes let’s put him face down so he struggles even more to breathe”. I’d sue those doctors.
@@babygirrrl5147 I'm sorry english is not my native language, the "face down" thing is called "prone positioning" and if you search in Google many doctors use "prone positioning" to improve breathing on patients who have a breathing machine. @@pistachiodisguisey911 I'm sorry to hear that, in your case I agree it is negligence, my son's case is more ambiguous, they supposedly followed the procedure to improve breathing for babies with breathing problems. @@Lacrymac I'm truly sorry this happened to you. I can't imagine the pain of what has happened. But it's also not right to blame the whole of the country just because you had a few bad doctors.

Which was most likely why he got tricked into believing that stem cell nonsense in the first place... I feel bad for Jimmy. I really do. He's older than me, and maybe he'd have a wife and a kid by now. But I think it's time to let go.
Another thing worth noting is that 'bag' is also synonymous with ambu valve masks in the medical field, ie a pump based ventilator. Not sure if that's the same thing being referenced here, but still.
His son is still alive he’s in his 20s but shame on you, why insult him. How would you deal with such situation, especially when he worked with sketchy ppl. He knew they greedy and he was afraid for his son and family. Ppl have killed for a lot less.

I have a sibling who is severly intellectually disabled due to hydrocephalus, where fluid builds up in the brain causing swelling and brain damage. I've seen first hand the desperation that can result from parents who can't understand what happened or how it happened to them. Some parents want to find someone to blame for their situation when the reality is that this can happen to anybody and there is no rhyme or reason to it. When all the medical options to improve my sibling's condition were exhausted, my parents got sucked into the "alternative medicine" rabbit hole for a while through an absolute charlatan who charged an exorbitant hourly rate to wave crystals over us as if that would do something. I became a skeptic at 12 years old after watching this woman defraud my parents of thousands of dollars before a family friend helped them see her for what she was.
Bro I went deep on this. I live in Japan and exposed the weird aspects of this. The guy and his wife called me and started yelling at me over the phone. They threatened me and cursed incessantly. I mean full psycho mode. I waited till they calmed down and just listened and said I was open to hearing their side. The dad went into a loop on what had happened in the most nonsensical way possible. I went deeper still and researched the area he listed as a military hospital and there are no military hospitals there. I literally live 34 minutes away from where he pin pointed this. On top of it I asked what was with all the shell companies and stem cell gobbledygook and it’s all empty pseudo science. The recording he had has no proof it was a doctor being recorded. The awareness he is trying to raise for his sons recovery has no basis in any research anywhere in the world. Speaking to his father on the phone came across as a conversation with some one deep into mental illness and severe delusion. Like seriously spiraling into schizophrenia. The doctor he has listed has never existed in Japan and my wife (who is in the medical field) has pointed out multiple aspects of jimmys skull which show catastrophic birth defects that have existed from day one and could never happen via experimentation or abuse. The whole thing is sketchy and reeks of delusion, scam, and complete and utter madness

Working in social work, you hear this stuff all the time. Persecutory delusions are unfortunately common, and they often manifest with claims of medical malpractice. Unchecked, they can lead to people acting in violent and self-damaging ways.
This seems like a classic case of extreme denial, the parents are trying to cling to any explanation/cure and won’t let go of their son. I feel for them but it’s probably best that they let go, I’m sure their son would understand if he knew.

Anyone can set up a website, register a business name (at least in the US... not sure what the process is in Japan), and label themselves as the CEO of that business. Does James actually have any qualifications or background in genetics, or are all of his "companies" just LLCs set up to fuel his obsession? I don't know, this all seems really fishy to me. Not in a nefarious way, but in a "we're witnessing some extreme mental illness issues lining up with a legit medical tragedy" kind of way. My guess is that this man and his wife were already mentally unwell before having a child, and then they had a son come along with tons of medical issues and no hope of a typical life. It amplified existing delusions and sparked a belief in medical conspiracy theories. My gut feeling is that Japanese authorities are already well-aware of this situation and they've found that James and his wife are just mentally unwell, and that the conspiracies about doctors intentionally harming his son are unfounded-he simply has a ton of genetic or congenital medical issues.
the barbituate and benzo overdose could cause brain damage honestly if he’s lacking oxygen but the fact it’s not mentioned is just suspicious. i doubt they’d use both at once.
Right. Also, she said he was given a “lethal dose” of the benzodiazepines and barbiturates. If that was the case he would’ve died. Flumazenil can reverse an overdose of a benzodiazepine, but there is no reversal for barbiturates. Of course, if this was during surgery, his airway would’ve already been protected. Looking at his x-ray at 3:00 it is clear that no degree of hypoxaemia is going to cause bone deformities like that. It looks like osteogenesis imperfecta, which can often be complicated with hydrocephalus and and encephalopathy

I agree. The x-ray looks like it could be OI and probably type three. With the Macrocephaly and the hydrocephalus and the apparent encephalopathy, it’s clear that this has nothing to do with suffocation or the use of sedative medications.
Woah! Good for you! (Figuring that out, probably) Thanks for the info ❤

Imagine living under a huge countdown timer, ticking down to the day his son passes. He made himself believe that he could actually find a cure, that it was there, and he just had to find the way to do it. If he doesn’t, his sons death will be his fault. Now imagine living under that stress and thought process for this long. Imagine trying to take a day off with that hanging over you, even taking a minute to yourself, would feel like laziness, neglect, letting your son die.
Damn right he snapped. He is looking for someone to take blame, even though there isn’t really any blame to be had. He wants someone to take responsibility. The cruelest thing is that he deluded himself into thinking there was something he could do.
i think ScareTheater is one of the few channels on youtube that has managed to maintained relevancy without changing at all. like compare his videos to that of his from 4 years ago. nothing has changed. thank you for not selling out mr scare theater. i love u
I can see the improvement in the video quality and his commentary. Also change does not equal “selling out”
Change is very important for all to make, ST has been blessed with that fact that his narration and videos have stood the test of time and rarely boring. It has helped that he take breaks from YT every 4-5 months or so. Changing a bit for advertisers isn’t exactly “selling you soul” either.
@@kalicasts i never said changing is selling out, hence why i put a fullstop before thanking him, in order to have longevity on youtube u pretty much have to change yes i agree especially in todays climate. but if you compare his videos from now to that of his from a few years ago they haven't changed very much at all.
He has changed and that's not bad.
With the amount a lot of my old favorite channels have completely changed over the years, I completely feel this. Watching ScareTheater is like putting on an old creepy video, except it just came out and is new. It's really nice to see when a lot of other people change their content a lot to stay trendy and not even to really improve the content.
I don't doubt they did it with good intentions, my doubt is about the timing of doing it just 3 days after being born prematurely and after having a meeting with the doctors where they told me my son was in a very critical condition.
@@pistachiodisguisey911 I'm sorry to hear that, in your case I agree it is negligence, my son's case is more ambiguous, they supposedly followed the procedure to improve breathing for babies with breathing problems. Even if I sue them I don't think there will be enough evidence to do anything. Also, being a foreigner in Japan doesn't help, if I try to sue a japanese hospital I will probably lose.
@@Lacrymac I'm truly sorry this happened to you. I can't imagine the pain of what has happened. But it's also not right to blame the whole of the country just because you had a few bad doctors.

I know a bit about medicine, and I don't think suffocating on a plastic bag would cause such lifelong medical conditions. Which was most likely why he got tricked into believing that stem cell nonsense in the first place...

Stem cells do have alot of potential but early on they were overhyped in what they were capable of doing.
Another thing worth noting is that 'bag' is also synonymous with ambu valve masks in the medical field, ie a pump based ventilator. Not sure if that's the same thing being referenced here, but still.
I was about to point this out, bag and balloon are used a lot, and maybe there was some confusion in the Japanese translation because of that.
was thinking this as well when the call was being discussed
The man needs help clearly, he was unable to process the loss of his child so he clinged onto baseless hope and conspiracies.

Can you email him this along with some proof? Like getting the phone call back again and sending a clip to Scare-theater? I know he has a contact email.

Honestly, i kinda agree with your theory here. While he may have been involved in shady stuff at some point, at the end of the day, he seems to just be a hopeless dad at his breaking point, begging for any attention towards his son. Think about it, what if all the strange, cryptic stuff about james and his online profiles is to simply get his son some attention and POSSIBLY lead to a “miracle”
Thanks for covering this. I remember this case being covered by Internet Investigator, it's such a strange case.

Oh man I remember this... Glad you are covering it
Working in social work, you hear this stuff all the time. Persecutory delusions are unfortunately common, and they often manifest with claims of medical malpractice. Unchecked, they can lead to people acting in violent and self-damaging ways.
It feels like he heard stories of Unit 731 and used that as part of his agenda for the kid.
This seems like a classic case of extreme denial, the parents are trying to cling to any explanation/cure and won’t let go of their son.
I feel for them but it’s probably best that they let go, I’m sure their son would understand if he knew.
So he runs a company where he professes to be able to cure anyone, but can’t cure his son? Right.
This is the first time I've actually been early for a post even though I've been subscribed for years 😭 Love your content so much Scaretheater, so glad you're back!!
I heard this story years ago. Great uncovering and I agree with you. I think he is heartbroken and just wants to find a way to help his son. Very sad story
I was thinking the exact same thing

the barbituate and benzo overdose could cause brain damage honestly if he’s lacking oxygen but the fact it’s not mentioned is just suspicious. i doubt they’d use both at once.
Glad to see you’re about to hit 1 Million subs, congrats you earned it.
breathing into a bag forces you to breathe C02 which the body lacks when you panic (because of rapid inhaling/exhaling). The imbalance of C02 vs O2 is what creates the symptoms that people experience during a panic attack

It's possible Jimmy was born with SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) but a more extreme case than Shane Burcaw (squirmyandgrubs on YT). That could explain a lot about his condition. There is no cure.
Exactly my theory, he’s simply suffering a similar disorder to this and just has wierd, possibly mentally ill, parents
IMHO he was born with osteogenesis imperfecta type 3 with the complication of hydrocephalus and encephalopathy. Looking at his x-ray at 3:00
As someone with SMA type 1 I immediately thought of this my parents almost went through the exact same thing with me when I was a baby but I wonder then what caused the brain damage? SMA only affects the muscles so idk maybe it's something else or maybe the parents did something that caused damage to the brain
