Being trained as a cantor in the Jewish synagogue, David Draiman is the real life version of the story of “The Jazz Singer”. For those of you who are too young to remember Neil Diamonds epic portrayal of this story, look it up and watch the movie. It is wonderful! David is an incredible talent, and the world is blessed by his artistry.
David is my idol, my hero, my inspiration as a human being in general. The music, the kind of person he is in general, and just the way he talks sometimes it feels like he's putting to words what i feel in my heart and cannot put into words myself.
I’m a 67 year young woman who has followed this band for decades. Seen them numerous times and besides their incredible music I love them as people. Especially David who is so humble, kind and intelligent. I will forever be a Disturbed One.
I am not a heavy metal fan. But I am a David Draiman and Disturbed fan. I am 68 years wise. The Sound of Silence was a song of my youth, and one of my all time favorites. When I heard that a heavy metal band had done a cover of that song, I was very skeptical. When I heard it for the first time I was shocked at what an incredible version it is! I think that I have heard the cover hundreds of times by now and each time I love that cover more and more! Also I have been in the mental health field for over a dozen years and I thank David for being such a caring advocate! ❤ I have GERD, but not anywhere as bad as David, and I am sans gallbladder. I have GAD too. Definitely complicates life.
I too not a Heavy Metal fan. I happened to see him on Conan. He blew me away. Haunting, sadness, beauty all combined. I listen to this daily! I'm 62 and loved the original but no disrespect to S & G but this is my favorite version.❤ I still get goosebumps and tears, it touches the soul.
I don't know @prodigalbrock , I've worked around this guy for more than 20 years off and on. I can say he's been a solid dude throughout his career. With fans, and behind the scenes.
I have to agree with Paula, David Draiman and Disturbed did a phenomenal job on their cover of The Sound of Silence. As an 80+ year old, I loved the song by Simon and Garfunkel, but listening to Mr. Draiman sing this song gave it a whole new meaning. Thank you.
Paul Simon said that he is proud of Disturbed cover and their version is one of the best covers and he was asked if he gave them permission and said he doesn’t own the rights but he said they deserve credit for their version.
Never heard of this guy until "Sound of Silence" and the more videos I see of him, the more I like him. He makes some very thoughtful and kind remarks to fans and takes time to actually connect. I'm becoming a fan much to the shock of my son.
Me too.....I was trying to find other version's of 'Sounds Of Silence', & discovered Disturbed. Have listened to some of his interviews & would love to attend a gig. Happy Earthday David for next week ♥️🔥♥️
I loved The Sound of Silence until I let my grandmother hear it, and she knew it word for word. I didn't know it was a remake. She and her singing group used to sing it all of the time. I immediately took to Twitter to tell them jokingly that they were no longer popular because my grandmother liked their music. 😂
I'd like to try and describe his voice... powerful, spiritual, primal, moving, transcendent, inspiring, pure energy. Please know that this was a quick thought. I'm sure this person has many more descriptive words but I think this is OK for now. Hes otherworldly.
I found Disturbed about 3 years ago hearing "THE Sound of Silence" & I cried . They are Iconic❤. I am 76yrs young & THE Beatles were my favorite band but after hearing David Draiman & Disturbed I fell in ❤. They are real & CARE about people & their fans. We recently had a Celebration of Life for our precious best friend & I had "Memories" played after I spoke & everyone was blown away & they wanted to know who that was. I was thrilled to talk about "DISTURBED" & even played some of their songs especially "Sound of Silence" , I cried & there was complete Silence. I ❤ them & have every album of theirs. When some people hear that they are considered Heavy Metal they are put off until they hear them & then they say "where have they been all my life"? They get into your ❤ & Spirit & have a way of never leaving, they become a part of you. When I pass I want "Memories" played at my CELEBRATION OF LIFE. THEY ARE A CELEBRATION IN MY ❤ EVERY SINGLE DAY.
The first time I heard of Disturbed was with Sound of Silence. I had never really listened to the words when Art Garfunkel sang it but with David singing, I actually heard the words.
Listening to him in this interview makes me love him even more with all the health issues he fights to continue to entertain us. He is just so amazing. I can't hear him too much.
I first saw Disturbed on MTV, when MTV was real music, I was hooked , Married a lead Guitarist of a metal ( music) touring band, I’m now a 71 year old old G- Ma and my Grand son and Nephew have bands and always want me to be at their studios and their venues, it’s so wonderful that the other genera’s are being made aware of Disturbed.. This man's been in my head recently, not for his music, but his personal message. He openly addresses a lot of very personal difficulties people are struggling with and takes time to give encouragement to them. He has also shared his personal struggles with mental health, and it just hit hard to listen to that. Music is probably one of the reasons I'm still on this planet. The message can be the medicine I need to get me through hours, days, and sometimes months. I think he's connected with his fans for this exact reason. The songs and the fans mean something to these guys. It's real and much appreciated.
100%! Even at my age today music is a major part of what keeps me going, it's helped get me through some incredibly dark moments since I was a kid. So I am so thankful for musicians like him! Like I posted in my own comment, he is an absolute GIFT!
David Draiman is amazing his voice is outstanding he is just an honest caring person.the band is great love them all. I've just discovered this band I was scrolling on iTunes and was hooked immediately amazing
I “discovered “ David Draiman” through The Sound of Silence and the first thing I thought was, how absolutely magnificent voice! Who made this Angel ? and how did he developed those vocal cords. I hear him every day, at least once a day. Happy to know more about you. Keep well forever. ❤
One of if not the best front men for a band. Love David Draiman, completely honest, humble and super talented. So wish I could meet him. Some of my other favorites are already gone, taken too early. One of those people you just want to shake their hand and tell them in person how much of a role they have in your life and how they made a better person for it.
Seen Disturbed for the 1st time in Orlando (2-26-2024)... I also was Blessed enough to do a Meet & Greet with them... The Best Show ever... I want to see them again so damn bad... Would live to talk to him more to finish our conversation we were having... Such a sweet man...❤😊
Saw these guys for the first time last night, hell of a show. David is a huge advocate for mental health and fighting your demons, it was evident how many lives he’s touched.
Every time I see David interviewed, I gain more and more respect for him. I have never experienced an entertainer in any genre who is more real than this man. I also feel a real connection with David, as we share similar backgrounds. It was 10 years ago, and I had just entered the health care field as a personal support worker, when I discovered that the front man of my favorite band had been a director of long term care facilities in the Chicago area prior to making it big with Disturbed. If I were ever granted 3 wishes, one would certainly be to have a sit down, shoot the s**t session with David.
I was 13 years old when i saw disturbed in concert, Duluth MN. Was able to go backstage after the show cuz my dad knew the production company, we were walking right behind the stage down this 3’ wide “hallway” one way & from the other side was David walking our way, lip ring and all. He was cooling his voice down with do re me fa so la ti do. He stopped and chatted for a moment with me & my dad, signed an auto, and carried on. 30 years old today and I still remember that moment like it was yesterday.
DAVID IS A PROFOUND HUMAN BEING AND TALENT! The range he has is unfathomable ! been a fan for years now and am grateful for being able to experience this bands musical genius year after year bless this man and this band
I am nearing my 71st birthday and I found DISTURBED performance of the Sound of Silence totally by accident. I thought, as a youth, that I loved this song as one of my all time favourites but I didn’t know until now why. After having watched David Draimans’ performance the lyrics all makes sense and the timing of the release by Simon and Garfunkel in the midst of the war in Vietnam and the release by Disturbed in 2016 all makes sense. People didn’t listen to the importance of the message in the original. After watching Disturbed and especially the vocal by Draiman I feel the anger that I didn’t know was there. I continue to sob each time have watched this video. My maternal grandmother disappeared in 1944 from Budapest Hungary. My mother was 16 years old and found refuge in a catholic orphanage. This was 10 years before I was born. Not only did people not listen in 1964 we/they now challenge the prophetic message from those beautiful lyrics.
Disturbed was such an eye opener for me. I first heard them and I was like "this is me! They know who i am, they SEE me." I immediately ran out and bought every thing I could find!
How did I know he was a cantor? Such a beautiful voice and seems like such a mensch too. What a terrific interviewer to pull all these wonderful real person relatablilities onto the table and keep it cool. Kudos Rock Feed.
Sound of Silence by Disturbed has lived in my head rent free since it was released. Just wow. What a ballsy move to take on a classic and FML well done for making it better. (IMHO)
"Hold Onto Memories" always made me think of my favorite Aunt and others that I've lost. The song is perfect, touching, bittersweet. My Mom died suddenly on September 30th, 2023. And i haven't been able to bring myself to listen to one of my all time favorite songs... Thank-you David and the rest of Disturbed for sharing your talents and hard work with the world. Please know that you are cared for, even though we're strangers.
It is such a beautiful song. I’m so sorry about your mother and all the other loved ones you’ve lost. Know that you are cared for too and have been prayed for to receive strength and peace and God to carry you in Jesus’ name.❤️
How refreshing to get to know a singer whose work you love, and to not be disappointed and discover they're idiots when not performing. Draiman is thoughtful, intelligent, sane and sober. A+
I fell into the well of Disturbed hearing the Sound of Silence cover and realized there had to be much more to this group. My 80th birthday present to myself was to attend a Disturbed to concert. The ethos of the group is impressive.
Thank you for delivering this interview. David has always been one front man you hear little from but when you do he has so much to say. Really respect it.
If more people were as humble and down to earth as David Draiman the world would be so much better off! He is an excellent example and model of who to be
grew up in what was in my opinion the greatest music era....the 70's......but the sound of silence....has re -newed my faith in todays rock.....incredible powerful music..... thank you
This band saved my life. Especially David's personal words and experiences. Thankful and grateful. 💜🎶💜 And Sound of Silence was my spouses favorite song as a child, and he ended up loving your cover. It gave him comfort until the day he passed. Thank you.
I am not disturbed by the music x I'm disturbed by listening to it over and over again x I love ❤ it and its not just for the young as I'm 74 x what a voice ❤ to you all x
David YOU are my favorite Tenor!!!! I put it on my FB page...the guy that sings god bless America for the Atlanta Braves is a fantastic Tenor as well!!!!!
I saw Disturbed for the first when they opened for Slipknot and when they wheeled David out strapped to table and he had a Hannibal Lector mask on its something I'll never forget.
Slipknot is my favorite band and disturbed is a close 2nd, the 1st time I seen both bands was the same exact way.. When they rolled Dave out I went crazy 😂 It was at Mayhem fest Camden in 2008
@@PyramidHead-xs5gyI'm still wanting to go to see Slipknot live. I saw Disturbed back in 2016 at the Chicago Open Air Concert after a year of listening to them and they were amazing. I also was 13 about to be 14 on August 17th at the time. Now I'm 21, like holy shit time flies!
I just discovered David singing The Sound of Silence, and I love it! I am a 73 year old lady veteran and a poet and an artist so maybe that explains it. Really a great original rendition!
Im 64, just got done with my fanatical dance/exercise routine to Stupify and Down With the Sickness. Then comes on this great interview with a wonderful man!!! Love it.
I got to say I cannot believe and am blown away that people did not discover this man until the sound of silence. Us OGs have known about this amazing vocalist for over a quarter of a century. I remember getting the demo tape of the sickness. It was a promotional six song tape that also featured songs from other bands coming out at the time including Papa Roach. It had stupify on it. I was 17 going on 18 at the time. I instantly fell in love and have been a fan ever since. A friend at the time his dad worked at a radio station would always get these promotional tapes. They were sent to radio stations when a band was about to come out and a single was about to be released. I have been a fan ever since and it just blows me away that so many people don't know how legendary David Draiman truly is.
David has been such an inspiration in my life for over 23 years now, I honestly don't know if I would still be alive. If it wasn't for Disturbed, their music lifted me up. When I was dealing with soul crushing problems. Their music pulled me out of the mud.
I love him. He is so intelligent and trained. Knowing his history (not by this) I LOVE that I don't love total head-banger all the time, but his VOICE. What a gift. I hear him as far as age. I use to be able to sing and not so much anymore.
Absolute all time favorite band. At the age of 2, my daughter would sit in the backseat of the car and say "momma play sickness, play sickness momma". She would sit there and headbang in her carseat and belt out every single word. She is now 22 and sickness is still her favorite song. My favorite is stupid. I literally just attended a disturbed concert on Jan 23rd at the Resch Center in Green Bay, WI.
This mans music comes from his soul and cannot compete with sheet music !! My husband plays guitar with no knowledge of music or read sheet music, he plays whats in his soul and comes out beautifully ! What he has in his soul transfers into his hands and meets his guitars strings and makes music that brings such joy to anyone listening !! He played just for his own joy and never wanted fame or fortune, he played for his own pleasure and if someone heard him they got a look thru the window of his soul !! People like this gentleman and musicians are true gifts to our world !!
Great interview, very well spoken and thought out questions. I truly enjoy hearing David speak, he is such a truly grounded, humble, and down to earth individual
This is actually the most well put together and balanced interview I've seen of David. Not too heavy on the mental health stuff like in other interviews, but not totally neglecting the subject either. Just simply a good interview.

I am almost 70 and have never heard of David Draiman as I am not conversant with metal music. After hearing his version of the Sound of Silence a few days ago, it was impossible to not be enchanted by the powerful ability he has to master his voice. To express such intense feelings via music and words. Living through the global pandemic and current neo-fascists trying to destroy democracies, his Sound of Silence feels like a resurgence of this reborn anthem for our current collective experience, on steroids. I am deeply moved by his ability to explore his thoughts and feelings so articulately. He is a true gift to our world. Hopefully, he will find the right support and choose to stay here much longer.
I had the pleasure and absolute honour to meet the band in Manchester. A great bunch of lads and so humbled. Disturbed have a lot of time for their fans. Full respect to them. 🤘🏼

Truth
Never a truer word spoken ❤
I could listen to the Sound of Silence 🎶 over, and over, all day. Powerful!
I do every day and I'm 74. When I leave this world I would like it played that day!
That's a cover

No smoking, no drinking, careful dietary, no partying or late nights - Impressive Frontman!
And no tattoos because of respect for his Grandfather
@@johnnieparker4465 Even more respect, WOW.
Can't believe he's 51 already... My favourite music videos were "Prayer", "Stricken", "Indestructible" and "Asylum"
Like the reviewer said 'holy shit' but my response to this is that I love this man and his group....and I'm old!
The "Indestructible" music video even reached Croatian Radio Television in 2008
David you sir are a human being, thx for not using the F bomb to communicate . As a 69 male , you got my respect 👍🏼🇺🇸
And from an 69 yo female 😊
I love your music. Truly talented and true❤️
Fabulous man. Recovery legend
From Canada too 🇨🇦
Above all else, this man is a true gentleman. A class act.

Most underrated band of all time. Seriously this man david draiman deserves all the recognition for the impact he has done for music genre.

He’s changed a lot. In the early 00s he was NOT pleasant to be around or to his audience. Now it’s a complete 180
My strength and performance teacher who I had senior year of high school went to a Disturbed concert and actually shook his hand.
But in the early years he wasn't that nice to his fans. He got angry whenever he saw fans on their phones.

Fck man what a great interviewer. The knowledge, the timing when to stop and allow him to express his ideas. Good job.
Thank you 🤘
Agree. Thats why I'm subscribing right now😊
Yeah when an actual Metal-Dietician interviews someone as opposed to some Normie
Eddie Trunk. He’s. Great.
They made this senior citizen feel life again. They made an old rocker come alive again.
He's a great guy, he will stop the show to help out a fan who is struggling with something like the rest of us. He has my upmost respect.
Sound of Silence by Disturbed has lived in my head rent free since it was released. Just wow. What a ballsy move to take on a classic and FML well done for making it better. (IMHO)
Smartest move he ever made
He has such beautiful soul piercing eyes!!!❤🇵🇱🇨🇦🙏
Great interview. What a beautiful and humble man.
I can’t listen to this song without crying. Beautiful song❤
It is such a beautiful song. I’m so sorry about your mother and all the other loved ones you’ve lost. Know that you are cared for too and have been prayed for to receive strength and peace and God to carry you in Jesus’ name.❤️
@@imhungre789 Thank-you so much for your kindness. Please accept a virtual hug from an internet stranger 🤗
Such a cool dude. Great singer and a great band. Nice interview
What a fantastic human!
How refreshing to get to know a singer whose work you love, and to not be disappointed and discover they're idiots when not performing. Draiman is thoughtful, intelligent, sane and sober. A+
Not liking David Draiman is a red flag. This man is so down to earth and real
I agree. I really like the guy.
Please and thank you!. Just stop the negative.
David is strong.
Thank you
Mixed on yourself
AMEN to David
How humble, how devoted... this guy and his band impresses me.
I’m 70 and I love this guy. Smart, talented and cool.
My go to workout music.
I'm a 72 yr old woman and I have been following Disturbed I think from the beginning. I love you all and thank you for great artistry.*💕
I love it rock and roll girl
I'm fifty four
This man is a complete legend
Just an all round thoughtful and well rounded person. The world would be a better place with more like him.
Dudes always level headed, Great Voice, Humble, Down to Earth
If more people were as humble and down to earth as David Draiman the world would be so much better off! He is an excellent example and model of who to be

Mental health this for everyone, everything, everywhere..
Wow. At 69 I’m now a Disturbed fan, and totally love David Draiman. What a pro, what a gracious & centered man he is. WOW.
This band saved my life. Especially David's personal words and experiences. Thankful and grateful. 💜🎶💜 And Sound of Silence was my spouses favorite song as a child, and he ended up loving your cover. It gave him comfort until the day he passed. Thank you.
Dave's so humble when complimented, and gracious with his honesty, for me, that makes the music even more meaningful.
Always awesome to hear David speak. Such a talented singer and extremely well spoken and intelligent guy.
Got to meet David many years ago. His kindness has left a lifelong impression on me. One of the most down to earth rockstars out there!!!
Absolutely love the band Disturbed, have all their albums. David has such a raw unique voice, love it.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAVID!!! We appreciate and love you!
When they rolled Dave out I went crazy 😂 It was at Mayhem fest Camden in 2008
Same here. 1st time seeing them was mayhem fest opening for Slipknot. Was awesome show that was!
@@alex86devapath I'm so happy I got to see them with Joey and paul..
@@PyramidHead-xs5gyMy dude, check out the Howard Jones era of Killswitch Engage. 🤟
What a great grounded guy David Draiman is! Nice to see the someone besides the huge success could be such a humbled guy!
I just discovered David singing The Sound of Silence, and I love it! I am a 73 year old lady veteran and a poet and an artist so maybe that explains it. Really a great original rendition!
The knowledge and depth of this man is unmatched in the industry. Who he is as a human being....David is on a whole different level
Just love Disturbed ❤️! Frontmans voice is epic. Get chills when I'm driving around with their CD in my car!! ❤❤
I LOVE this man and his amazing voice!! So humble, honest and real!! Much respect!! 🧡🧡🧡
I love him. He is so intelligent and trained. Knowing his history (not by this) I LOVE that I don't love total head-banger all the time, but his VOICE. What a gift. I hear him as far as age. I use to be able to sing and not so much anymore.
Thank you for all your sacrifices David!❤️
We know he cares about his fans!! I’m 70 years old and I love them!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is actually the most well put together and balanced interview I've seen of David.
Ditto…Met them at CBGB’s NYC 10000 fists
