    THANK YOU!! I ruined the black plastic face plate on a vintage Sansui 300 receiver by thoughtlessly cleaning it with acetone, turning it a blotchy grey colour. This trick undid the damage and made the face plate look brand new! Seriously, it's like it never happened. So happy you took the time to make this video!!

    Just did this today on an old van's plastic bumpers and I am absolutely stunned at how good they turned out. I went over it twice to even out, but the second pass was put on as the sun was going down, so it's still a bit oily - as I didn't wipe it dry. I'll do that next treatment. I also used it on various trim pieces and it shocked me how good it looks. As with your suggestions on tire shine videos, I could tell places that didn't look uniform should have been cleaned better, as when I did that, the results were much more even and consistent-looking. If it holds up well, even if it needs the occasional maintenance wipe-down, it's a great win - especially when one thinks how much more they are paying for so few ounces of the various trim products. Thanks!!!

    I did my chevy avalanche with the heat gun and the results were very good, up until about a year, if you do it again it does NOT look the same. So if you do use the heat gun you need to use the UV protectant VERY IMPORTANT. Just like sweet projects said, spray it down with the UV protectant a few times a year. Prevention is the 1st defence

    I used a heat gun on the back bumper trim of my 2001 Ford Expedition and it looked great for about 1 year, but... I failed to use any protectant and it's just as faded as before. So glad to find this second method, as you can only pull up so much oil with the heat gun. ATF is an excellent cleaner for so many things, I can definitely see the benefit of letting it soak into the plastics to hopefully restore some of the lost oils. Will definitely be following up with a good UV protector this time!

    an old school method is...peanut butter. the natural oils from the peanuts don't 'attack' the plastics the same as a mineral oil would. the heat gun just draws more oil to the surface and dries out the plastic. The peanut oil gets absorbed and replenishes the oils in the plastic. plus its really cheap! and yes, smooth not crunchy!

    Great tips!!! I watched both videos... I really like the Trans Fluid better... is seems like the heat gun pulling oils out of already dry plastic would be hard on the plastic... the Trans Fluid replaces moisture, seems like a better solution. Your suggestion after doing the Trans Fluid is to use a UV protectant 4x per year... is there one you recommend?

    Hi great Vid but I wanted to say that the plastic part of my car that needs restoring looks like it has scale deposits on it?!??! Its blotchy n seems to lift slightly when i scratch at it with my finger nail. I was wondering if you thought my car issue would benefit from this Trans Fluid treatment or something else?? thank you ( wish i could send a pic :(

      @SweetProjectCars  Місяць тому +1

      Use this amzn.to/2yXid7z on a small area on your plastic and see if it blends it back in, don't hold it in one spot too long keep it moving over a small 4"x4" area, don't use the trans treatment on your issue. You can also shoot me a pic to sweetprojectcars@gmail.com before and after. Hope this helps, have a great weekend my friend. mad Mike & team

      There are many ways to paint your pillars and the key is having them clean and using a good etching primer then basically any enamel base paint will work for you but it’s the primer that matters the most

      once it is restored and then conditioned with a UV plastic protectant on a normal basis it lasts indefinitely. the only reason trim gets bad in the first place is it is neglected.

    Have you ever tried using Boiled Linseed Oil? I use it all the time to restore plastic bed liners, but I've never used it on plastic trim. It's a drying oil so it doesn't stay slick or oily and it doesn't wash off. Just don't get it on the paint or toss the rags in the trash can, they can spontaneously combust.
