"The 4080 super could have been an email" is probably the best summation of Nvidia marketing ever! LOL😂😂
I understand the sentiment. We all wish we would get better deals on GPU's. But the b*tching and moaning doesn't help either. It's not like there's a solution. At least the 4080 Super is an alternative for the 7900 XTX now.
@@PaintrainXbitching and moaning does help, as it lowers the perceived value of Nvidia's brand... by immeasurable small amounts, but it's the thought that counts
Obviously it's just a price cut, but it gives Nvidia a huge boost in screen time for reviews compared to the tiny blip that a price cut brings. While reviewers don't focus much on cost because they get it for free and give meh reviews, the actual consumer is _very_ aware of cost because they actually have to pay for this stuff. A 20% price cut is as good as a 20% performance boost to the consumer, and now it's priced very competitively with the XTX.
Nvidia and it's AIBs got free launch level coverage for a simple price drop. That's marketing genius and you can't even argue because it obviously worked perfectly.
@@PaintrainX I wouldn't even call it an alternative. It's the defacto winner now when they're so closely priced but AMD has the caveats of embarrassing RT performance, inferior upscaling and frame gen, and higher power draw. With Nvidia's superior features and efficiency only a diehard AMD fanboy that would never buy Nvidia to begin with would consider the XTX.
It's mindboggling that AMD didn't drop prices before this launch. They knew exactly what was coming and should have known how bad they would look but in typical AMD fashion instead of being proactive they'll wait until _after_ they look stupid before they react. Every review said the 4080s was a meh product, _but they'd definitely buy it over the XTX._ AMD could have nipped it in the bud with a price drop but now there's videos with millions of views saying another product is better, and when they DO finally drop the price it will be a tiny blip that the average consumer won't notice. When it comes to marketing at AMD the lights are on but no one is home.
@@sosukelele While it's good that consumer awareness and activism in refusing to buy this stuff has risen, it's sad that it's not as much as you would expect after getting the middle finger during the crypto boom. Even more insulting that once the crypto bubble burst Nvidia and AMD's refusal to give up on the greed was magically rewarded with an AI boom. SMMFH Now we have to wait for _that_ bubble to burst and have the companies remember who put them where they are.
So glad you're still going after all these many years. I used to watch you whilst I was a young kid in high school here in the UK, now I'm 29 years old and you're still the great guy you always were back then. Thanks for all the amazing memories, Paul.
_"Cities Skylines Global Ordinance"_ 🤣
Sounds like a game actually want to play

10:44 Even with reading Chinese, it actually took some googling to figure out what some of these names were. Some of them aren't obvious at all. Here are the 7 from top down:
- Valorant
- CS:GO (duh)
- Naraka: Bladepoint
- PUB:G
- Red Dead Redemption (presumably 2)
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Forza Horizon 5
Nah, I think Paul is right, the bottom two are Palworld 2077 and Bubble Bubble 5 😭
@@jokur7 hope we'll get horse racing game called Red Forza Redemption
@@jokur7 I once had a dream about Warcraft 2 Orc Ogres attacking Final Fantasy 7 Weapons. So, Paul is right. 🥰
Everybody got the January 2024 sniffles but the Tech News makes it all better! Thanks Paul & Joe!🎉
not everyone.
lol nah it was 40 degress celcius here yesterday and again today!
I live in Brazil (it's freaking summer here) and I got it, so yeah!
Thanks Steve, your LTT hardware Nexus is always unboxed.
Well, there it is folks. The best comment you'll read today 😂
@@shanemorton2921 It was glorious!
A comment so good that I read it twice!
January was hell for a year .
I used to work in the "High end gaming PC" business, and every PC we shipped out for review, were nothing like what the customer would get. It was pretty scummy, but a lot of bribes took place both ways. The company would bribe reviews with free computers, manufacturers bribe us with free products, if we sell their products.
I guaran-fucking-tee you that shit was LOADED with xtx xx60s and 50tis too wasn't it? And probably a bunch of shitheap x400f's
Near all computers I see on she;ves are shitheap RTX 2060 or 3050ti or some shit like that, and I was looking at this one box at walmart it was $1200 for a 3050ti not even a good one (as if), and there was an $800 RX 6700. It's like, why tf are you even considering that RTX pile of shit.
Joey and his editing skills with Paul's takes are simply golden 😂😂
There's no Sunday without fresh briefs
Lol @ the title. You got to the heart of January 2024 in the PC world.
One of my favourite things on the entire internet is Pauls intros to the Technews
Thanks for the Tech News, and I hope you feel better soon!
Every time Paul says "...and, while you're down there..." :D :D :D
Bravo!!
Excellent tech news, Paul. Thank you. 🙏
“4080 not priced aggressively” understatement of the year.
Thanks for the content! Keep up the hard work!
Thank you Paul ❤
Thanks very much Paul. I was interested in what was the equivalent to the new APUs. 👍🏼
Tech news! Party on! Excellent!
Another wrap on a week of tech. Thanks guys.. amusing editing from Joe as always.. thanks man. Thanks too Paul for stubbornly defying your cold! Now get some rest.
Ditto
Well done! I never noticed the framed picture of Data (Brent Spiner) in his Herlock Holmes garb. Nice!
Paul and Tech Jesus keeping the tech giants on their toes! Keep taking it to em boys.
Good content. Feel better!
(I didn't know you guys got winter colds in California.)
Great video like always! Thanks! ❤️
Paul, Bubble Bobble 5 is such a banger! Definitely should add to your test suite 😂
Bubble Bobble 5 is truly the benchmark gamers have been waiting for.
Good shit as always Paul. You rock.
Get well soon sir. May your Tech Briefs never wear out.
I really enjoyed the news & information, along with "Lively Editorial Comment"! Good show, Paul...🇺🇸 👍☕
And now my Sunday morning is complete! :)
Thanks Paul for another informative video, and stay safe in the floods.
6:56 I think I just had a heart attack.
I've really been loving the new Palworld 2077, you should definitely add it to your test suite!
7:04 Walter Mercado??😂
EGGCELLENT!
This video tends to release on a Sunday afternoon in Australia, and that's just perfect, even if not intended, even Sunday morning would be good I'd imagine.
nice mug you got there 🙂
Could we see some content on the best Cpu Gpu combos for strategy gaming ?For example Gal Civ 4, DCS , and other strategy games played on largest map sizes and other resource hungry modes.
Thank you for the news paul.
It's only natural to get news (s) briefs on Sundays. It's when I take my baths!
I just nabbed a 8600G to see what it can do. Paired it with a cheap AsRock B650 board and 32gb of 6400 DDR5 ram. I think it'll be more than enough for a light gaming rig with an emphasis on Retro gaming. Great job as always Paul and Joe, feel better soon!
For 1080p gaming, that setup is good !
Perfect 1080 set up. I did the same for my kid with 5600g no gpu but 800w thor psu so it get my 6700xt soon when I go get one of the 6950xt cards selling for $550 mc got stock pile :).
6700xt is butter smooth 1440p ultra on my 32" strix monitor
These APUs could be great for a multi-use server where you want the PCIe slot for something other than a GPU for acceleration. And of course, for the savings in power and money for not needing one.
One of the best intros!
I'm holding out for the RTX-4070Ti SuperTi.
I have to say some of the system requirements for bubble bobble 5 are brutal, 128GB 7000MT RAM, 2 bananas and an orange!? Insane!
Most entertaining tech update on the internet :)
Hey Paul can you make more videos comparing graphics card prices and what you recommend to buy at a given price point like when 3000 series was being scalped so hard? I'm finally thinking of upgrading my 1080ti and am having a hard time deciding what card I should really be looking for and something like that would help a lot to understand what cards are good value.
love me some "palworld 2077"
I have to agree with Kyle on his podcast!
Tech News is the best part of Paul's Hardware!
If only you could find a way to make it a daily show. Even if it was shorter, it would be AMAZING!
Or maybe do it as often as possible, as long as you have enough material to make a new episode.
I'm sure the channel and probably other places would blow up if you cut all the stories into a shorts, clips and vertical format.
Do any of the video cards or mother boards use something other that the 1920 buck converter, like the 2011 Ćuk-buck2?
Get well soon
3:50 Assuming you used two review sample cards, you might have a golden sample GPU in both the 4080s you got there, which would explain why they are equal in performance...
Laughed out loud at scrolling past the title. Power phase drop makes me rethink trying to grab a FE
tech news is the best news
Hi Paul. These new names for GPUs and CPUs are like listening to Shirley Ellis singing The Name Game.
I can't wait to try blaubble blaubble 5
Stay Dry Paul!
A hell of a year indeed....
Quite interesting to see the potential for 18TB SSDs. With how slow HDDs have been gaining capacity recently (they only go up to 22TB), I wonder if SSDs can even jump ahead within 3-5 years now. I just dropped $600 on a pair of 20TB drives for my NAS, I doubt QLC would be durable enough for NAS applications but it'd be interesting to see if any enterprise TLC options show up soon using similar stacking technologies. Given similar durability estimates I would almost certainly prefer SSD storage over HDD even if the cost were slightly higher.
That thumbnail is sums it up!
"Cities Skylines: Global Ordinance 2" made me physically lol.
was the super class card not the lower end so 3080 super, 3080 & 3080 ti
the so-called 40"80 Super" should have actually been a top SKU 4070 and priced at $399.
just grow up..
@@groenevinger3893 why does that annoy u so much?
@@Dave7heRave he's an Nvidia shill.
I'd say even $450 would be a fair price.
I'll be holding out for the Micro Center exclusive Ryzen 9600X3D!
My 7850k back in the day held up remarkably well when you tune it properly. Was hoping the 8700g would be the same for some people. With this option, I wonder if it's worth it because the CPU side is maybe better than a 12100? Is it? I haven't been able to keep up.
Next-gen AM5 CPU Marketing: "It's over 9000!!!"
The pcie support for the 8k apus is such a letdown 😢
Awesomesauce video Paul and Joe!! My Sunday morning is 80% happiness! Sadly, there is no captain crunch in my bowl.
I can't believe you made it this long without getting a cold.
CES should have been the perfect petri dish for you to catch it.
Still, I appreciate your dedication to keeping us informed for the happenings of the past week and those important items that are upcoming!
Like the rest of the garage studio and covered patio storage area setups. And getting Party Monster 2 up and editing/streaming and playing L4D2 against Joe.
Caffeinator out.
Its Name is Over 9000!!!
1:48 wait, that chart says that in that particular case, the 4080 Super is *slower* than the 4080???
If the cards are equal in performance you'll have variation for both better and worse as the tests are never performed under 100% similar conditions.
@@garetht677that's why its $200 less cmon now
lmao! Never in a million years did I think I would see a picture of Walter Mercado in a tech channel.
Walter Mercado in a Paul's video? Ligue djá!
Great news as always and I hope you get well soon. I'm still thinking AMD is leapfrogging 8000 series because they want to eventually catch up numerically to Intel's numerical generation.
Did anybody else try to click the notification bell at 1:48? No? Just me?
"What a year, huh?"
Bought a cheap OMEN system in 2023, RTX4070, wow ! Great expectations, great deal HP !
Way cheaper then buy all parts and build it at home.
Paul got a cold? Jesus, everyone I know got a cold. Except me, because instead I got a sinus infection! I hope you feel better soon, Paul!
The fresh tech news, delicious :) 16 TB m.2 would be pretty funny. I would hope the Zen 5 CPUS would vastly improve some of the issues ive seen with stuttering with various people. 4080 Super lame card though :(
Paul What is the current best bang for your buck graphics card you can get right now?
I Wonder what it would be like if Pauls Hardware shenanigans and Jaystwocents shenanigans collided? Comedy Central Special?
I wonder how useful is the IGPU of the 8700G in productivity workload
Dizzy ACE
8700G VS Arc, not for gamers, sorry
You need some Nvidia chips in the ultrabook.
Productivity, Dragonfly HP !
OMG Paul, clear your UA-cam notifications! ;)
Hopefully, later this year, we get something like a Ryzen 8900G with a possible Radeon 790 iGPU that can get to 1660 Ti levels without framegen. Since right now the 8700G can get to the GTX 1630 level without frame gen
W Tech News!
Why did every day in January feel like a Monday?
The best title of 2024 😂
Are you beaming this back to us from the future, as we only just started the year?
just gotta love those eat my shorts refferences
I'm surprised you didn't point out that there's been 70% the game developer layoffs for January alone compared to all of 2023. Some are even from developers that have recent successful games. THIS is why we don't like corporations owning game development companies. It's all about maximizing profits and nothing to do with making good games.
Looking forward to Vegeta announcing when Zen 5 goes over 9000.
Excellent thumbnail
Sure !
Maybe Intel will dare to bring great value iGPUs. Though so far it seems to just be mobile only.
waiting for 5000 gpu serie
The big problem with 4080S is not that its a straight up rebrand (with cuts in bom costs) - for most of the rest of the world, it isn't selling for its supposed discount
Here in Oztraya at $1750-1870 AUD its 10-15% MORE expensive than equivalent 4080 models which have been for a long time now $1500-1600 AUD
greebj
Wait some weeks, what GPU u use now ?
What will the Microcenters in the US offer, RTX 4070 Super than the RTX non Super on Launch.
You should wait for the RTX 5070, buy it on launch as cheap as you can, getting a new card ! Super is just more of the same RTX 4070.
Austria has the same issues, only Microcenters can offer them for market prices, they have stock, rest needs to order it ! In store cards, you have shops ?
Idc, not interested in buying any of these 300W monsters in the height of summer, just pointing out the only potential win for this particular card, for most of the world, isn't, and Nvidia have misled reviewers into false praise of a rebrand strategy
Here in Canada all 4080S cards are sold out as are 4070TS cards. And the prices for 4080S cards are in fact less than 4080 cards (still above $1000 CAD but less expensive by about $150-$200). The least expensive 4080S is $1,369.99, most expensive is $1,729.99, while the least expensive 4080 is $1,499.99, and most expensive is $2,019.99 (even with price reductions). I used Memory Express (think of it like Micro Center in the US) for reference.
6:56 OMG 😲 STOP IT Tyler D. ..You'll give OLDies like me a BLOODY heart attack 🥵
@6:21 - Hey Paul, those aren't Zen4c cores... Wendel was high on his vegan food when he said that in his video. The 8700G/8600G uses normal Zen4 cores. Only the 8500G/8300G uses a mix of Zen4 and Zen4c cores.
Cheers from Brasil!!! 😎
3:13 Does this mean the 4080 Super non-FE cards may potentially perform better than the 1-3% many have reported for their reviews?
1-3% is within margin of error in both benchmarking and silicon quality. Normally AIB card perform a few percent better, but 3-5% doesn't make a difference either.
The 4080 Super's launch was also disappointing because Nvidia doesn't know how to run a store correctly. Make people sit in a queue for 40 minutes, claim it's finally your turn, let you fill in payment and shipping info, make you do a freaking CAPTCHA, and then finally say "lol out of stock" on the final button to complete purchase. Absolute insulting experience. At least Best Buy's queues all had the decency to say "sorry out of stock" and kick you out immediately instead of making you wait and letting you check out before telling you.
Can't wait for Nvidia to put out a new line of beers. We'd get benchmarks and tech news in one sitting.
Keep it up guys!
