And I’m sorry that you sound so jealous of us but I’m proud of my melanin and you can’t make me feel small. Africans aren’t ugly and Africa isn’t a place for ugly people. So excuse me if I don’t want to listen to a random person on the internet who is telling me that black people are pathetic. We survived slavery. That is not pathetic. Hi Luke, thank you for discussing this issue! One thing I want to mention is that this "new trending" body type (big lips, curvy bodies & big butts) usually associated with black women was seen as unattractive and beastly throughout history. Imagery throughout history weaponized the same trending beauty ideals today to belittle black women, but in the black community these trending beauty ideals were typical and seen as most desirable. What we are seeing is these physical features embraced in mainstream society because influencers gave permission to accept and desire them. I do a lot of research on various topics in relation to black women and just wanted to share.

  • @lydiayacoub8336
    @lydiayacoub8336 4 роки тому +13

    The biggest problem with in influencers editing their appearance is that not only do they make themselves the ideal bone structure and body type, their bodies are seen as what a healthy lifestyle looks like. This is especially harmful because living a healthy lifestyle has nothing to do with your body type. Sure, eating healthy and exercising regularly can alter your body type to a certain degree but ultimately, your body type is mostly determined by hormones and genetics. The popularization of skinny and “slim thick” bodies is leading to the shaming of overweight people who might be living a healthy lifestyle but are seen as lazy and unhealthy. People like to point out that there are health risks to being over weight and act as if they are just concerned about their health. It’s true there are health risks to being overweight, but there are just as many health risks to being underweight, and more health risks to drinking and doing drugs. People don’t address the celebrities or influencers who openly do harmful drugs often or drink a lot, which present greater health risks than being overweight, because they see their edited bodies that look skinny or toned or slim thick and assume they are healthy people. This is soooo harmful because it leaves overweight people shamed by society as disgusting, lazy and unhealthy. People develop eating disorders and many other mental illnesses because our culture teaches that if extremely unhealthy practices lead to a certain appearance, they become healthy even though they are worse than just being overweight.

    This video came down from heaven. I recently deleted my Instagram ( also Facebook) because I was finding too much “perfection” that was starting to affect the concept of beauty I have. Instagram is getting unbearable with so much superficiality. That was my solution. I want to live a real life and I feel so much better without that app. It seriously can destroy your self love.
