      @csgamer89 2 роки тому +14

      @@MARCOPETER82 Well...we don't know that for sure. Egon wasn't exactly armed at the time after all. :P But yeah, Phoebe about to go full on proton pack murder hobo might've been a bit much, but I wouldn't have complained about it since keep in mind they'd just got done proving their grandpa wasn't insane, they saw real proof that ghosts actually existed, and Phoebe especially was probably still hyped up on adrenaline from the car chase after Muncher. So no I agree, it wasn't out of character. A bit extreme perhaps, but like others have said, Egon had a temper too on occasion.
      And heh, gotta love Peck's still got that nickname Venkmen coined him with.

      That part never felt right to me what with the cops not at all reacting to Phoebe threatening them. You wave a gun around at some cops, you're gonna tackled or even shot.
      But I guess you can argue that they didn't react because they had no idea what she was even holding. The sheriff even refers to the pack as "whatever the hell that thing is". Maybe as far as they knew, she was just waving around a big, clunky stick.

    I cried tears of happiness when Ray, Venkman, & Zeddemore showed up & wiped away even more tears when Stantz did his classic 'Gozer The Gozerian. On behalf of the state of...' line followed by Venkman saying "Bravo." Seeing 3 of the originals suited up & ready to go made me more emotional than any movie had in a long time(at least till Spider-Man a month later). Olivia Wilde killed it as Gozer with a remarkable, spot on performance, the terror dogs & practical effects looked amazing & Phoebe is the perfect choice as the face of the next generation of Ghostbusters, & they honored Harold Ramis so beautifully and I got emotional seeing Egon help his granddaughter and his old friends & their goodbye seemed so real & genuine. This movie was a beautiful fan service and I loved everything about it.

    This movie is the TRUE Ghostbusters 3 I have been waiting for my whole life. Jason Reitman did his father (who wrote and directed the first 2 ghostbuster’s movies) proud. I went into the theater thinking that this would be a fun B grade movie and like everyone else in that packed IMAX left with tears of sadness and joy at how amazing this movie was.
    McKenna Grace is the absolute breakout star of this movie, she really is the true heir to Egon Spengler. And that final scene of Egon with everyone at the end made me and everyone else in that theater burst into cheers and then tears.😭😭👏🏽👏🏽

    You guys need to watch Adam Savage talking with Jason Reitman about how they did the Egon scenes. Part of the reason it works is the level of effort put in. MPC Montreal (Bladerunner 2049 fame) built a 3D model of Harold Ramis circa Ghostbusters 1984 to the point where they could insert the digital into the original film, and not be able to tell on a side by side. Once they had that, they aged the model up to what Egons age would have been in GB: AL. The actors were reacting to a well know character actor (Bob Gunton) who gave the performance as Egon after studying him, and the model tracks that, so in effect you are seeing Bob Gunton playing Egon, mapped into the re-aged 1984 Harold Ramis model. When I learned that, the level of effort put into this made me cry again.

    • @AprilAyresGriffiths
      @AprilAyresGriffiths 2 роки тому +29

      Jason Reitman said they avoided having Egon speak because it would have detracted from it, because what words do you give Egon? They thought the words would detract and draw the focus away from the story which was one of reconciliation, reunion, forgiveness.

    The implication, based on the dates Egon had on Callie's pictures growing up (and the actress' real age) is that Callie was born before the first Ghostbusters film (1984). Carrie Coon was born in January 1981.
    And the actor who bough up half of Tribeca was Robert De Niro. He owns and operates the Tribeca Grill (with a movie theater located on the second floor) just a couple of blocks away from the actual FDNY Ladder 8 (Ghostbusters) Firehouse.

    During the basement picture montage scene, if you pause to read Egon's notes on Callie's life, you can see there are dates written on some of them. The earliest legible date that can be seen is '81. Meaning that Callie was a toddler during the events of the first film, and 8 or 9 years old by the second film! In the wider GB "world, I like to think of it this way.
    .
    Necromancers exist in their world, but they're not conventional magicians or wizards using magic or such. What they have, is a body of carefully accrued and curated knowledge about spirits, and techniques associated with influencing or manipulating them. They're all basically like "mentalists" for the dead. On general principle, they deal fairly with those spirits, making contracts with them for a period of service in exchange for assistance in eliminating the spirits' "unfinished business" in the mortal world.
    .
    Vigo the Carpathian and Ivo Shandor were both descendants of particularly skilled families of necromancers, that turned to evil in their ignorance. Vigo had proper education in the field, and used his skills to devastating effect. Shandor, on the other hand, was a total amateur more obsessed with immortality than in actually acquiring or using power. Vigo had a vision, while Shandor was just a coward trying to run from his fate.
    .
    Gozer (exclusively in my head-canon) is not an evil or cruel deity. It has a job to do, like any other such being. Gozer is like a forest fire, clearing the way for new life to emerge and develop, by removing the old and stagnant. It only shows up once in a rare while, does its part, and goes back. Vinz and Zuul are the once who guard the passage between dimensions, going both ways.
    .
    Shandor's cowardice, and incomplete knowledge, let him force Gozer to emerge, and to do so at an unappointed time. That act twisted Gozer and its guardians, making them cruel and aggressive. But Gozer's core nature remains the same, so when Shandor tried to offer up the world in exchange for saving his own ass from death, Gozer was offended and ripped him in half.
    .
    What would be an interesting idea going forward, is the notion of what might happen to the world with Gozer and both of its guardians imprisoned inside the traps. Maybe, while they're kept from their home dimension, and stuck in the traps, EVERYONE becomes a ghost. No one can cross over. Couple that with the apparent critical issue of the main containment device, and there could be a serious ghost-pocalypse on the way.
    .
    It would be interesting to have Winston restart the Ghostbusters, and the kids help out (but not actually go hunting ghosts, because you don't give a child a charged particle weapon), when a stranger shows up and claims to know a bunch of things. Egon was the last one to cross over before the consequences of Gozer's imprisonment settled in, and this stranger is a fully-trained necromancer who knows what's wrong, and needs help to fix it. He/she offers their knowledge to these Ghostbusters in the hope of not only improving their effectiveness, but in taking necromancy out of the shadows and bringing it into modern times. Maybe get a proton pack with a special inscription, "I belong to the 'Buster, in whom the old ways, have joined the new."

    As an Oklahoman, the frackquakes can be strong like the earthquake early in the film. Also, kids definitely play/hang out on old mining, oil/gas equipment. There can still be gases released years later, from abandoned sites, so a random fire spurting up wouldn’t cause them to necessarily run in fear.

Loved how they used the original logo intro at the end of the film. Also that comment, "Paul Rudd, the immortal" yes indeed lol 😆

    I have been waiting for this to fall into my Patreon tier with great excitement. Honestly, it was the perfect Ghostbusters sequel to me. McKenna Grace continues to be the best young actor (somehow feels like shes been a teenager for a decade, that's how many good performances he's put in already).

    I saw Ghostbusters 1 on opening night in the theater when I was a kid. I grew up loving the movies (yes, I liked the second movie…I quote it quite frequently… “why am I covered wis goo”) This was a perfect “ending” to the original 4 ghostbusters. Seeing the four together again was so bittersweet. I liked Paul Rudd’s character and loved that Winston is the one that ended up as a millionaire. Ray would stick with his bookshop and Peter would still be doing the “get rich quick” schemes. Winston going to school and becoming rich is appropriate. **Winston bought the Ghostbusters firehouse.** That’s where he put Ecto1 at the end. They said they think it’s a Starbucks very facetiously but I didn’t think it got made into a Starbucks bec Winston bought it to keep anyone else from having it. He is very nostalgic and I can see him buying up anything belonging to the ghostbusters to restore and keep safe. The marshmallow men came out when Paul Rudd opened the trap and let out the spirit inside. Maybe it was part of that spirit? Or releasing it woke other spirits, calling them to it. I’m sorry that they couldn’t get Rick Moranis just to come out of retirement to do a few seconds cameo but I am impressed that he said he was quitting to raise his kids and he has kept that promise all these years. But it would have been great seeing him again. I really loved this movie.

    I definitely cried during that last segment with the line up, as nostalgia definitely hits that way!
    Was disappointed with the last movie... And I'm very happy this one was much more of a sequel, and a well done one at that!

    My dad was suffering from Alzheimers, and I moved back in with my parents to take care of him (I'm a nursing aid)
    Anyways we bought this on Amazon and watched it together one night, as a family. My dad actually remembered original Ghostbusters, and he fucking LOVED Afterlife. Like...we all had a really good time watching it.
    It was one of the last moments like that we all had, before Alzheimers erased everything, so I'm always going to be thankful for everyone who made this movie for giving that to me.

    I wasn't expecting this movie to be as good as it is and definitely didn't expect it to be so emotional. I didn't hate the other Ghostbusters movie, but this is the real Ghostbusters and I love that more than being a proper sequel, it was a love letter to Harold Ramis and a passing of the torch to a new generation of Ghostbusters. The 4 lead kids were all likeable and their chemistry was fun to watch, especially Phoebe and Pobcast. It was fun seeing Finn Wolfhard become a Ghostbuster since he cosplayed as one in Stranger Things. Paul Rudd was entertaining as always. I love that although Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray's screen time was minimal it was truly meaningful and heartwarming with them reunited and saying goodbye to their friend. I do wish we would've seen a lot more ghosts terrorizing the town, but overall I enjoyed it and definitely completes the original Ghostbusters story while leaving the door open for the new team
