One of my fave little details I never noticed until I was older was, during the dinner scene, you see Yzma toss her drink out onto the cactus behind her and, when Kuzco starts turning into a llama and it pans to her, you see that the cactus becomes llama-shaped too XD
Also, Kronk's tent is a bit of an adult joke on 'pitching a tent'. And the reason the angel was impressed by the devil's handstand is cause he can't do it cause he's wearing a 'dress'. xD
One thing that I never paid attention to until I was older is how similar Yzma and Kuzco actually are. When she claims she "practically raise him" parallels alot on how they both are self indulged. Especially the restaurant scene sitting across from another they are acting pretty much alike.
I feel like that was the point. Kuzco didn't have parents, only Yzma as his mother figure, and she's an arrogant, self absorbed asshole, and Kuzco learned from her. The film started out as a Prince and Pauper film called Kingdom of the Sun in 1994, described by Lion King co-director Roger Allers as an "epic picture mixing elements of adventure, comedy, romance and mysticism". It would have been in the traditional style of Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. The plot would've involved a greedy, selfish emperor who finds a peasant who looks just like him, so the emperor swaps places with the peasant for fun. Meanwhile, the evil witch Yzma has plans to summon the evil god Supai and capture the sun so that she may retain her youth forever. Discovering the switch between the prince and the peasant, Yzma turns the emperor into a llama and threatens to reveal the pauper's identity unless he obeys her. The emperor learns An Aesop about humility, and ends up loving a llama herder named Mata. Together, she and the emperor set out to stop Yzma's evil plans. Sting was signed on as the song composer. Disney execs thought that due to the poor critical and commercial reception of Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, both of which were serious dramatic musicals in the vein of Sun, the film would be unsuccessful. Compounding this was the fact that the release date had been firmly set at the year 2000, and by 1998 it was clear that production would not wrap up in time. Disney execs ordered production on Sun to be halted. Almost all the original plot points and characters were scrapped. Most of Sting's compositions were cut as well. The film became transformed into a "Looney Tunes meets The Muppets"-style slapstick buddy comedy. While the end result was warmly received by critics, who found it a breath of fresh air compared to most of Disney's fare, animator Andreas Deja, who supervised animation on Yzma during Sun, was displeased with what the film was reworked into, and left to work on Lilo & Stitch before the retool. Allers was also disappointed with the final film, calling it a "simple slapstick comedy", and saying that if he had had more time, he could've made the film according to his original visions.
I get how hard it can be to see your vision turned into something completely removed from its original form... but... ...BUT... The film it became is one of my favorites... So I can't be too empathetic.
Honestly, the film as it was originally imagined would have been a much more artistic and 'worthy' film........and would not have had anything like the audience.
"How did you get here before us?!" "We- ... How did we, Kronk?" "Well, ya got me... by all accounts, it doesn't make sense." This movie is still one of the most quotable films I've ever watched. Kronk in particular is a quote gold mine.
Favorite subtle genius moment: when Kronk is sneaking around at night and freezes mid-step against the wall to avoid being seen... the massive carvings of the two cheiftains on the wall are pointing directly down at him.
Kronk’s New Groove was the sequel move. The spin off TV show was The Emperor’s New School, Kuzco in high school, with Yzma as the principal! It’s hilarious!
Huh, I never noticed how, at the very end, when the old man punches Kuzco in the arm, he doesn't say "No touchy" like he would have done earlier in the movie. He even pats him on the shoulder as he walks away. It's a very subtle way of showing how far he's come.
guys I´m pretty sure is based on peruvian culture, Cuzco is the town where Machu-Pichu is, a lot of words are quechua (native peruvian language) like Pacha, it means earth; and the clothes and crown are all from the Inca emperor; plus all the cultural references like the llamas, the poncho and the style of the houses and temples
Eartha Kitt is iconically known as one of Adam West's Batman's Catwoman. One of the pioneering actresses of colour even back then, as well as a well respected jazz singer and spokespeople. It's kind of sad her immense cultural impact has been lost to history
She was an amazing black woman who was an incredible civil rights activist! I'm so glade that she lived. She was also a great singer and dancer, who was the first to record the hit"Santa Baby"!
Here in Bolivia, many communities still speak Quechua to this day, and that has made some words sneak into our slang and vocabulary. When I first saw the movie, I found some of the names interesting. Pacha literally means "Earth". In fact, the one native goddess that still has cult to this day is a mother earth goddess literally called "Pachamama". Also, Pacha's wife is named Chicha, which is a native alcoholic drink that still exists today. As for Kuzco, that was name of the Inca Empire's capital city, which is in modern day Peru.
Now Eric can recognise the time that Rick played as Yzma the last time they played Disney Villainous on Game Night. Yeah, Jafar, Hades and Yzma are three of the best villains in all of Disney.
Disney just doesn't make 'em like this anymore man. This was funny. Like I was healthy laughing at this. Fun writing, fun characters, phenomenal voices for EVERY ONE. Even like the mom who didn't have that many lines I remember her voice vividly. Simple story as well. Just an all around good watch. 16:24 Eric... The amount of times I've asked this to myself about idiots I have to deal with in REAL LIFE is astounding.
Kronk's New Groove is a sequel movie. The series was The Emperor's New School. Ymza and Kronk's actors reprised their roles. Pacha's actor came back for season 2
My fav lesson that Kuzco learned is that people who TRULY care about you are the ones who will call you out on your bs and help you straighten yourself out, and that’s the company you should keep.❤ After being surrounded by “Yes” men and women all his childhood-teenhood and practically raised by Yzma lol. Still to this day "My Funny Friend and Me" is one of my fav songs ever and this movie being so hilarious and heartfelt and so quote-able AND gave me that song?! Love it so much.
Kuzco is the emperor of the Inca, one of the biggest civilizations in America. Llamas were (and still are in modern-day Peru) very important to the Empire's economic growth because of their wool and their ability to move through the Andes where the empire was located!
Sad thing is I don't remember a single line from Pancha's wife, yet now, thanks to Owl House, I know she's one of the funniest voice actors Disney has. Had.
This is such a childhood nostalgia hit for me. I remember trailers when the movie was first coming. My mother surprised me and my sister one morning with this movie, when she rented from On Demand for a week. that waterfall scene really stuck with me. It's still funny to this day. The cast is fantastic.
Getting Tom Jones to do the original song was absolute perfection! Also, there's a movie called Hoodwinked that is absolutely spectacular and you would LOVE it. It's basically Rashomon meets Little Red Riding Hood and Patrick Warburton (Kronk) voices the Big Bad Wolf, Anne Hathaway is Red, Glenn Close is Grandma, plus many, many other heavy hitters. The animation is *really* rough because it was a fledgling studio with no money, but the script and caliber of voice acting talent is beyond perfect.
Honestly peak comedy. I had only one dvd before people stopped using and it was Emperor's New Groove. Needless to say I religiously watched it when I was a kid lol
This is easily one of the best movies Disney has ever made, always a must see movie! By the way, it is not Mesopotamia, it's the Inca Empire predominantly from Peru! I'm so glad you guys reacted to this movie, always a classic.
The fact that David spade plays kuzcos voice , shows the effort that Disney put into the movie. Childhood favorite, and probably in my top 3 Disney movies of all time 🤷♂️
2:47 - Try Meso-America. This is Incan stuff. 9:16 - Note the cactus where Izma threw her drink. 11:16 - Chicka is the first pregnant woman ever in a Disney animated feature. She's also played by my favorite 'old lady' actress, Wendy Malick. 15:33 - If you look carefully at the falling pieces of bridge right here, they spell out the word 'Damn.' 27:36 - Eartha Kitt's REAL reaction to hearing her kitten voice (which you apparently cut). 32:42 - Kronk's New Groove was the Direct-To-DVD sequel to this movie. The spin-off show was The Emperor's New School. 41:01 -There's a BIG reason for that. This movie was in production during a major upheaval in Disney leadership and the movie changed DRASTICALLY because of it. This movie is the first of the Post-Renaissance period of Disney films. It's too deep a story to get into here, but try to find a documentary called 'The Sweatbox.' It tells the story of the movie's production. (I say TRY because Disney has tried real hard to sweep it under the rug.)
I can tell that Eartha Kitt had so much fun doing the voice for Yzma 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also the dinner scene I’m surprised no one mentioned that the cactus Yzma poured her drink on turned into a llama shaped cactus🤣🤣
In latin america, this movie is huge!!! the latinamerican dub in one of the best in the industry along with shrek and, as qith shrek, is one of the few ones where the creators liked more the latinamerican dub that the original ones. The amount of memes created by that dub and movie alone is honestly amazing
This is one of those films that it just looks like the animators and screenwritters were just having fun with it, like, it was supposed to be a epic musical but they just went "yeah, i don't wanna, lets do something fun!". Thats why i love this movie, i wish there were more movies like this, the fun ones the directors just say "do whatever :)" and it ends up so funny.
"Is this supposed to be, like, Mesopotamia?" "Yeah" Come on, Rick! For those wondering, it's the Inca empire (in Peru). There's even a city there called Cusco. Edit: it's even weirder since he later made a comment about South American characters. Maybe he got the terms "Mesopotamia" and "Mesoamerica" mixed up?
Eartha Kitt must've had absolute fun playing as Yzma😂 9:16 right there next to Yzma, the cactus turning into a llama cactus it took me a while to notice that when I saw the movie a second time 13:04 a parody to the very first the fly movie 14:18 every time I see that scene with the waterfall I repeat every word and feel so excited when they go off and Kusco yells, "Booyahahaa wooohoohoooo!!!!!" Just making us an absolute thrill ride. I also recommend watching the music video based off of the movie walk the llama
This movie went through a big change in story when it was made. It was originally gonna be a prince and the popper type story where the prince and a peasant who looks like him would switch places. Yzma was still a villain but her motivations were that her family was the advisors for all the rulers of the kingdom and her father taught her how to do magic. She hated being advisor to a baby for her life and hated the sun for making her look old The story would be that she wanted to block out the sun and restore her youth There’s actually a full song they made for her sung by the actor and it’s amazing. It’s not fully animated sadly just some animatics of it
It is based on the Inca Empire from Peru. The word Pacha means earth or land in Quechua, a native language of the Andean region, which is quite fitting considering that Pacha wants to keep his land.
This really is a perfect movie. One of my favorite cartoons and so many quotable lines. My kids and I yell "Pull the lever!" when we go down waterslides. I've seen it a hundred times, I still react the same way Eric did having never see it!
Kronks voice actor is also very shortly in MIB 2 I believe, at the beginning. He grabs a giant underground worm and then J neuralizes him and tells him to go get married and have babies. And then he sees the waitress and falls for her immediately. But that is when you can really tell it is kronk

That original actually sounds like it could’ve been fun. But man this ended up being iconic, if a bit of an underperformer.
Honestly, I’d rather have what we got
Big W for executives here
"How did you get here before us?!"
"We- ... How did we, Kronk?"
"Well, ya got me... by all accounts, it doesn't make sense."
This movie is still one of the most quotable films I've ever watched. Kronk in particular is a quote gold mine.
Favorite subtle genius moment: when Kronk is sneaking around at night and freezes mid-step against the wall to avoid being seen... the massive carvings of the two cheiftains on the wall are pointing directly down at him.
I’ve never heard Rick laugh harder than when the old man threw off Kuzko’s groove 😂😂😂
Brooklynn 99 the Duck. he was so close to busting a gut standing over his chair
Fun fact: This film is the first film we group watched as a community in the Blind Wave discord
I ADORE this film - Stacked cast, unique animation style, jokes that are still funny on multiple rewatches, and a fantastically written protagonist
The fact that this film wasn't a hit on it's release, and is still virtually unknown and underrated...WHAT A TRAVESTY!!! It's such a hilarious movie!
Fun easter egg not many people notice at 9:16 the plant she threw her drink into slowly turns into a lama
Seeing Rick [and everyone] laughing so hard and being happy watching this movie... my heart is happy
Kronk’s New Groove was the sequel move. The spin off TV show was The Emperor’s New School, Kuzco in high school, with Yzma as the principal! It’s hilarious!
Still one of the best and most underrated animated movies ever. Would be so awesome if you reacted to Treasure Planet next!
Or Atlantis: The Lost Empire!
@@seanpatrickcain2 yeah that's a nice one too!
With Black Sails under their belts, they have to do Treasure Planet, right?
@@ShadowTrailMedia I sure hope so
The laughs at 28:20, specifically Rick’s, give me so much serotonin 😂
I adore this reaction so much! Glad you guys enjoyed such a classic!
Huh, I never noticed how, at the very end, when the old man punches Kuzco in the arm, he doesn't say "No touchy" like he would have done earlier in the movie. He even pats him on the shoulder as he walks away. It's a very subtle way of showing how far he's come.
Ok I legit never noticed that!
Fun fact: the movie take places in the Peruvian highlands, it is based on the pre colombian civilizations, like Machu Picchu. It´s not Mesopotamia. =D
I lost my mind when they said Mesopotamia. Makes zero sense and I don't have any faith in them figuring it out lol
guys I´m pretty sure is based on peruvian culture, Cuzco is the town where Machu-Pichu is, a lot of words are quechua (native peruvian language) like Pacha, it means earth; and the clothes and crown are all from the Inca emperor; plus all the cultural references like the llamas, the poncho and the style of the houses and temples
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he meant to say "Mesoamerican", not "Mesopotamian"
@@CrownofMischief Which would still be wrong as mesoamerica is around Mexico lol. But its fine
Eartha Kitt is iconically known as one of Adam West's Batman's Catwoman. One of the pioneering actresses of colour even back then, as well as a well respected jazz singer and spokespeople. It's kind of sad her immense cultural impact has been lost to history
Her activism had her blacklisted for a long time, especially after the media denounced her for speaking truth and making Lady Bird cry
I love playing Yzma. When ever I pull the “Smash it with a hammer” card I have to do it in her voice.
This was a win for Disney with the amount of memes that came out of this and got popular for a long while 😂
“What are you kidding?! This HAND CARVED Mahogany!”
This is without a doubt Top 3 funniest movies I’ve seen ever. Very few have come close.
Man, those laughs make me so happy. Sometimes it's just, so great, to see people just enjoying something.
You could tell Rick really loves this movie. He was smiling more than ive ever seen him
25:13 Fun fact: the joke on the spanish(Latin America) dubb is "I don't know Yzma, I don't think it's because of the magic of movies".
Had.
Wendie Malick is one of the best of the best
The show was actually "Emporer's New School", what RIck named is the Kronk-centered straight-to-DVD special.
Patrick Warburton is a treasure. Kronk is just one example of his amazing VA work. Or even just his acting in general ❤
After this, I need some Brock Sampson
32:43 No Kronk's New Groove was a sequel, The TV Show was The Emperor's New School.
This is such a childhood nostalgia hit for me. I remember trailers when the movie was first coming. My mother surprised me and my sister one morning with this movie, when she rented from On Demand for a week. that waterfall scene really stuck with me. It's still funny to this day. The cast is fantastic.
19:21 LOLLL, old Disney movies know how to have the best comedy!
Man, I really love their enthusiasm to just appreciate these old gems. It's great to see them really just enjoy the movie.
Hell yes!! Hoodwinked!, The Emperor’s New Groove, and Megamind are a triumvirate of brilliant comedy animated movies
I had forgotten how many gags and such were in that movie. I think it's time for a re-watch. I haven't seen it since it was first released.
There's so many little moments in this movie that are just hilarious but blink and you'll miss them. Makes it a great rewatch. Classic
I'm so glad you guys reacted to this movie, always a classic.
eartha kitt and patrick warburtton really form one of the most entertaining villain duos ever
The fact that David spade plays kuzcos voice , shows the effort that Disney put into the movie. Childhood favorite, and probably in my top 3 Disney movies of all time 🤷♂️
Eric's reaction to the old man being thrown out the window was priceless! That and the trampoline plot device are my favorite parts of this reaction.
"Break it down? Ya kiddin' me? This is hand-carved mahogany"
I'm about a minute and a half into this reaction and Rick is already in stitches; this is going to be an amazing video 😆
15:33 - If you look carefully at the falling pieces of bridge right here, they spell out the word 'Damn.'
27:36 - Eartha Kitt's REAL reaction to hearing her kitten voice (which you apparently cut).
This and Road to Eldorardo were my go to movies for many years. Brilliant and great to see your reaction to it.
In latin america, this movie is huge!!! the latinamerican dub in one of the best in the industry along with shrek and, as qith shrek, is one of the few ones where the creators liked more the latinamerican dub that the original ones. The amount of memes created by that dub and movie alone is honestly amazing
25:14 btw i'm the latin American versione he says, in don't think It was movie magic. And i think thats even sweeter
I love how the cactus in the dinner scene turns into a llama, too. LOL!
My favorite line in this movie still has to be "Welp! He aint gettin any deader!" 😂😂
"Is this supposed to be, like, Mesopotamia?"
"Yeah"
Come on, Rick!
For those wondering, it's the Inca empire (in Peru). There's even a city there called Cusco.
Edit: it's even weirder since he later made a comment about South American characters. Maybe he got the terms "Mesopotamia" and "Mesoamerica" mixed up?
Absolute classic that I watched every day whenever my family went on vacation. It's so much funnier as an adult.
Whenever something bad happens to me I always go “ugh why me?? Why me?? Why me???” Like Yzma lmao
It’ll always surprise me which movies that Rick LOVES and laughs at all the way through. So happy for another one of those reactions today :)
25:55. I wish Kronk said something like For the Spinach Puffs before betraying Yzma. That would’ve been hilarious 😅.
One of the funniest and most underrated Disney films. Never fails to make you laugh.
Eartha Kitt must've had absolute fun playing as Yzma😂
9:16 right there next to Yzma, the cactus turning into a llama cactus it took me a while to notice that when I saw the movie a second time
13:04 a parody to the very first the fly movie
14:18 every time I see that scene with the waterfall I repeat every word and feel so excited when they go off and Kusco yells, "Booyahahaa wooohoohoooo!!!!!" Just making us an absolute thrill ride.
She hated being advisor to a baby for her life and hated the sun for making her look old
The story would be that she wanted to block out the sun and restore her youth
There’s actually a full song they made for her sung by the actor and it’s amazing. It’s not fully animated sadly just some animatics of it
Absolutely love this movie. Kronk is just such a gift.
The setting of this movie really makes me want to see yalls reaction to Road to El Dorado.
Kronks new groove is an actual movie sequel where the Emperors New school is the tv show
It is based on the Inca Empire from Peru. The word Pacha means earth or land in Quechua, a native language of the Andean region, which is quite fitting considering that Pacha wants to keep his land.
To this DAY I still quote this movie by heart! I love this movie so much and I'm so happy you guys watched this!
This really is a perfect movie. One of my favorite cartoons and so many quotable lines. My kids and I yell "Pull the lever!" when we go down waterslides. I've seen it a hundred times, I still react the same way Eric did having never see it!
Not a David Spade fan but I love him in this and can't imagine anyone else could have done it justice.😂😂❤
Kronks voice actor is also very shortly in MIB 2 I believe, at the beginning. He grabs a giant underground worm and then J neuralizes him and tells him to go get married and have babies. And then he sees the waitress and falls for her immediately. But that is when you can really tell it is kronk
He also played Petter Dinklage’s henchman in Underdog (hilarious film)
