It honestly varies individual Predator to Predator, based on the writer for the story and whatever direction they want it to go.
I'd say the Feral is almost as dishonourable to our standard tradition for a Predator as the Sup-Preds, but even they will 1v1 ya for a fair fight so...
In the case of Scar of Broken Tusk I'd say you were correct they hate hunted weakened or trapped game, they live for the chase of the hunt.
I feel thats the outline for he's character as "The Feral" though
We've seen Stalkers, Hunters and even mad bad blooded killers,
(and mutant abominations but we won't talk about that)
but this guy is just that, feral and angry. I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of if not his first hunt solo.

In the original draft of Predator, Billy was meant to share that he had a vision from his tribal elders warning him of the Predator, and that indeed his ancestors had fought a Predator before - and that was why he was so freaked out by it, and sacrificed himself at the end of the movie to let the others escape.
Also Predators do eat, in Predator 2, they track it to a slaughter house, Gary Busey's character says "he seems to like the taste of beef".
Also yes, that is the gun from Predator 2, that is given to Danny Glover.

The youtuber Shadiversity who makes all kinds of videos about weapons, armor, castles etc made a video a few weeks ago where he tested the roped axe. I'm sure he could become more proficient with a lot more training but what it essentially boiled down to was that the rope slows down the axe a lot making it both clunky and less accurate. In addition returning the axe to your hand by yanking the rope is more or less impossible.

      @Slaskhask Рік тому +4

@@chengkuoklee5734 Oh for sure he is not the leading expert on all things when it comes to weapons but it was a fun little experiment nevertheless. The Chinese meteor hammer looks to work more like a flail as it uses chains and the chains are shorter than the rope used in Prey with a different and more balanced design that makes it easier to spin around your body or fling the hammer towards your enemy. Attaching a rope to an axe handle becomes very different though.
Maybe if the rope was attached to the bottom of the shaft in a ring and the axe was double bladed it could easily be swung around like the meteor hammer, but the rope would still be a huge detriment causing drag once you start throwing the axe more than a few meters in the way she did it in the movie. Shorten the rope, attach it and throw it differently, and maybe use a double bladed axe with a spike as well and it becomes more like a missile object akin to the meteor hammer.

@@NeverGiddy That’s a good question. I’m not sure. It seems like the Predator didn’t have the weapon on him in that scene so I’m guessing he had put it down somewhere and Taabe retrieved it. • @NeverGiddy
      @NeverGiddy Рік тому

@@522abet - Since you've seen the movie multiple times I thought you'd remember the last time Predator's club/spear weapon is seen prior to Taabe using it. Predator throws it through one of the Frenchmen running away and it half way penetrates a tree that is near where Naru and Taabe were tied up as bait. After Naru frees them, Taabe says he's going to look for a horse. The next time you see him he has a horse and Predator's weapon. He arrives like a surprise helicopter making no noise, clubs Predator, then puts the weapon in a convenient holder he has for it on the horse. He learned to use the weapon. While riding he expanded it to full spear mode. He then performs a leap through the air, achieving hangtime equivalent to what you expect on the moon, throws the weapon, mid air, 90 degrees opposite of all of his momentum, and, with no leverage at all, somehow fully penetrates Predator's body with it. Logic is important, but it isn't important to children. This movie was written by children for children. If we are expected to abandon logic, then why not, during the final battle, just have Naru hover over Predator's head, then urinate on, so we could watch it melt like the Wicked Witch of the West did in the Wizard of Oz. The number of continuity errors in this movie is incredible. The absence of logic profound. I have seen the original Predator movie about twenty times over the years. Any silliness in that movie involved the gorillas Dutch's team were after. It is a very logical movie. The only failing I can think of is the "mud as cover" wouldn't have worked. I'll give them that. It makes more sense than a magical flower that will instantly lower your body temperature without any of the downsides of hypothermia, like immobility, unconsciousness, followed by death. Yeah, that's great writing alright. I can seen why everyone loved this movie.

There was a LOT of hate from the Internet on this movie. Most of it revolved around "a tiny girl killed a Predator when a whole squad of commandos couldn't? Mary sue, wahhhhh". I really think those people just didn't pay attention to the movie. The Predator is a youngblood, who hasn't undergone a trial to become "Blooded". Their trial is akin to a rite of passage to becoming a man, or growing up and socially being recognized as an adult. This is shown by his use of a bolt caster instead of a plasma caster. Completing his trial and becoming blooded is what earns him a plasma caster that we see in the other Predator films. I haven't seen it completely confirmed, but I'm fairly certain that this trip to Earth was his test to become blooded. The tribe was doing the same with Taabe, Naru's brother. Naru even goes through her own trails throughout the movie. Also, throughout the whole movie the Predator gets injured in each of his battles due to his aggressive and reckless way of hunting. By the end of the movie he had been shot with arrows, slashed, stabbed, completely speared through the chest, and had chunks of flesh ripped off of him from the Grizzly fight. He was weak and slow and no where near the top of his game. Naru is shown to be smart, persistent and incredibly determined to learn how to hunt and succeed despite her size and stature. She doesn't stop improving and we are shown that throughout. At the beginning she struggled to keep up with her tribe members but had shown natural skill. As time went on she got better and better. By the time she fought the Predator she had not only improved her skills greatly, but she was already a naturally clever hunter and was good at using the environment to her advantage. This is why she won the fight, not because some Director decided "woman good, woman best at everything for no reason". People cry for writers to write QUALITY female leads instead of the typical Mary Sue of modern movies. And what happens when we finally get one? People complain.
The bear fight is one of the craziest feats of strength in any Predator or AvP movie. Not only did the Predator kill the bear with a single punch, but he lifted the entire bear over his head. There's few scenes in any of the other movies that show Predators to be that strong. I lost my shit the first time I watched the fight.
Regarding what you guys mentioned about how Predators feel about keeping their hunts fair, they actually an Honor Code they follow to maintain the spirit of the hunt. This Predator is young and reckless but still follows many of those rules. The main ones would be maintaining odds with equipment, making sure the prey can at least defend themselves. Those who they find worthy will often be shown mercy because of how well they fought. They won't harm the innocent. So if you run into the Predator and you are unarmed and make yourself vulnerable and non-threatening, they will not kill you (most of the time). If their prey is fighting someone and has been injured by another party the Predator will abandon the hunt because there is not sport in stealing someone else's kill. Lastly, if they find themselves in a duel with only one remaining enemy they're supposed to de-cloak, revealing themselves to have a respectful and fair fight to the death.
I loved this movie, the cinematography, the dialogue and how brutal and badass this version of the Predator was. I'm rarely as excited for a main character to whoop ass than I was at the end of this movie when Naru won and let out that war cry. This is my 2nd favorite Predator movie behind the original. I never liked 2 all that much and the AvP series started off good but got worse as it went on. I'm excited to hear that they are hoping to make a sequel or similar movie set in a different time period in the future. There's no confirmation but the Director and team have said they would be happy to do another.
Predator comics and lore was a big part of my childhood so I went on a little too long, I love this stuff.

And we see that over and over until the end shes finally able too. Which I really enjoyed about this movie. Which matches perfect with this predator Feral, hes a potent hunter can track, kill, and finish the hunt, but its a new area, new prey, and as a habit of most predators their pride, and arrogance as top hunters causes their downfall, while with her, its her lack of confidence that hurts her. Here's how I organize the predator movies:
Predator: One of the greatest action movies of all time, one simple mistake away from being a perfect film.
Predator 2: Solid followup, takes the interesting idea of the first film & transitions it into a new, interesting setting. Execution falls a bit short & it has some potentially problematic elements.
AVP series: Bad movies, but can be dumb, entertaining, camp fun. Still have better lore than Prometheus & Alien: Covenant.
Predators: Underrated film, solid action. Not quite as good as the originals but a worthy follow up, slept on.
The Predator: An abomination against the concept of film making. Shits on literally every good idea the series has ever had. Had maybe one solid concept underneath it that's ruined by bullshit.
Prey: For my money, second only to the original & I could be convinced that it's nostalgia that blinds me there. Back to basics, gets everything the first one did right & high lights what the series should be.

It's interesting that the game Prey (2006) and this film Prey both feature Native American main characters.

There is so much lore behind the Predators/Yautja. Age/Amount of hunts and the more dangerous the prey they kill earns them prestige and rank. The higher the rank the more gear, armor, and tools they have access to. This predator, the Feral Predator, is new blood. The first hunt as it progresses from a simple snake fight to more dangerous stakes to improve and prove itself.

Would absolutely love if they went the different cultures/eras route for future Predator movies. Could you imagine one set in feudal Japan? Maybe you could call it 'Ronin', it could have a double meaning, an exiled predator looking to regain his honor and our hero being a samurai with no master. Could you imagine the visuals you could achieve? The final battle, wide shot of our hero and the predator in silhouette, heavy rain and roaring thunder as they stand atop a mountain. The samurai ready to unsheathe his katana, the Predator roars as the thunder strikes in between the two of them, acting as a bell to start the battle. You wouldn't even need dialogue for it, just a great track to enhance the scene, war drums, traditional japanese instruments.
And don't even get me started on a Viking-era Predator movie...the possibilities could be endless!!

There was also the fact that the Feral Predator literally took a shot to the back of his head so he was probably still disoriented and couldn't think straight. Probably also why he didn't dodge the shot. It took him too long to figure out what was happening.

I can see the tomahawk work if the rope she made out of thread is way lighter or the axe itself is very heavy. It´s another "she learns quick" showcase.

22:48 - What does any "sports" hunter feel about the fairness of the hunt? Answer: They don't care! The Predator has always been an allegory of how hunting as a sport is ultimately the complete opposite of what hunters say it makes them: They pride over their accomplishments of hunting prey that has little to no advantage over the hunters.
Viewers of the movies often say things like "It's not fair: The Predator has advances weaponry, camouflage and vision!", but humans who hunt have the same advantage: They have advance weaponry (Guns), they have camouflage (Camo clothing) and they have better vision (Binoculars and telescopic riffle sights). It's not plasma guns, invisibility cloaks and infrared vision but the advantage that those give The Predator over humans is not any more disproportionate to that which modern hunting gear gives to todays sport hunter (Or also sports fishermen, for that matter). Even the Predator's willingness to not hunt unarmed humans has a parallels in hunters that will not kill females that are pregnant or with live youngs (Or throw back fishes after capture) to ensure that species continues on and so that they can hunt again latter.
So one could interpret the underlined message of the Predator series as: "Hunting is stupid and honorless!" (But I am sure sports hunters will disagree)
25:01 - He should have said: "Stick around!" 😂

As for the commentary by the gentlemen...
1:02:15 into the commentary, the one talks about Dutch using the powder to make explosives and "it works". That, actually, is one of the ways the original DOESN'T work. You don't take a low explosive powder and turn it into a high explosive. You can get AN explosion if you confine the powder in a container that violently ruptures from the expansion of the powder burning... but the powder itself doesn't explode like you see in the original movie.
There were quite a few moments in the original that, if you look at it as "is this real" (as they do here in the commentary with the tomahawk on a rope), then, you have to criticize both the original and Prey for the same thing; doing things that aren't realistic but look cool.
You aren't standing there with a real M134 minigun (85lbs), the batteries to run it (think two car batteries), and the 6000 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition to get 1 minute of firing (336lbs for 6000 rounds). You're talking around 450lbs JUST for one minute of firing, and that doesn't take into account the recoil of 6000 rpm of 7.62 ammunition. The M134 is a mounted weapon for a reason. Are you REALLY carrying 450lbs through a jungle for ONE minute of firing? "Old Painless" was specially made for the movie. The round per minute was reduced from 6000 to 1250, the batteries were off screen and wires ran down Ventura's leg, the pack only had the rounds needed for the scene, they made new grips so it could be held and fired. Even then, they had to make a special harness JUST so Ventura could stand there with the harness taking the weight and hold it.
You (Dutch) aren't surviving a mini nuke going off when you're that close. The concussion blast and overpressure itself would kill you.
Using the powder from the 40mm grenades which just "explodes" in a little pouch.
People remember the original (I do) as iconic because it has Arnold in it (biggest action star at the time), it was the first movie to introduce the predator (which was new), and it was a normal macho man action flick with cool catchphrase one-liners (stick around). But, realistic? Nah.
People need to stop watching movies thinking "this isn't realistic". It's a movie. Movie has to movie or there is no movie. Things happen because the script/screenplay are written so it can happen. If things in the original were "realistic", Dutch would have been ganked like every other person by the predator, then, movie over. Oh wait... we're talking an alien landing on Earth. NVM. If it was realistic the movie would never have happened.

I appreciate that this movie showed clear rules regarding the Predator’s use of weapons. It fought the bear hand-to-hand because bears do not have complex tools to aid them in combat. Once the Predator saw evidence that a target used a more advanced weapon, it was free to upscale its own weapons to match.
