I hated the marketing for exactly that, it didn't matter that the original ensemble was all male so why should it matter that this one's all female. Marketing on that was foolish. Also I think the Director's Cut was noticeably better than the theatrical release)

One of the great things about the original was the tangible money troubles, like Ray having to mortgage his house so he could buy a crappy lemon for transport, and a rundown firehouse for an HQ.. The mundane stuff helped sell the fantastic elements.
I liked how Dr. Venkman played by Bill Murray was really just a conman trying to bed female students. While practically electrocuting male students (even if they apparently were PSI - gifted).

God there's all kind of meta going on in these pitch meetings, that I'd never catch if people didn't point it out. Someone pointed out that producer guy went on a side quest during the PM on The Mandalorian - which is all about side quests.
It would have been better if it had been set in the future/present day and the ghostbusters was already an established service in a city plagued with evils. It didn't need to another origin story.
I knew a girl at university who actually liked this film, thought it was funny, she also liked the Star Wars sequels and always ranted and raved about Trump's time as president... I have never spoken to her since those days.

This movie had no reason to exist. It was a disaster. The excuse was it was supposed to be for the 'younger generation', which I feel this movie is already irrelevant. Does anyone even remember this movie before seeing this?

No, it was brilliant! Make a movie that capitalizes on the nostalgia of a classic for Generation X, then target a completely different audience with the actual movie while insulting half of America. It's like if a restaurant called themselves Pizza Hut, but only sold Thai food, and then called you racist if you complained there was no pizza.
And I'll bet that most young people would enjoy watching the 1984 movie over this garbage anyway.

God there's all kind of meta going on in these pitch meetings, that I'd never catch if people didn't point it out. Someone pointed out that producer guy went on a side quest during the PM on The Mandalorian - which is all about side quests.
This is, by far, one of the best series the entire internet has to offer.

It would have been better if it had been set in the future/present day and the ghostbusters was already an established service in a city plagued with evils. It didn't need to another origin story.
