I have Glock 31 .357 sig & in my opinion .357 sig is the best round available! Velocity equal power & with Underwood ammo velocity is hair over 1500 FPS ! Lethal round best home defense round & it copies the 🔥 out the barrel like the magnum.
357 SIG is the pest preforming auto-loader cartridge out there. Muzzle energy is 550+ Fantastic round for self defense. Used by Secret Service, Air Marshals, and Texas Rangers, and many more departments.
How's it a good thing? If it's popular, the ammo is cheap and we'd have a wide variety of models chambered in it. As of now, we're limited to a handful of selections and the rest we have to hope that someone makes an aftermarket conversion barrel.
I hope I don't come off too combative, but I've very aware of what's out there, which pistols are chambered in it, and how much the ammo costs. Compared to other chamberings, the price per round and pistol options are very lacking. There's very few that are naturally chambered in it and not a lot more that offer conversions from .40 and 35 cents a round for handgun ammo isn't cheap. I mean, I can't tell you that you need to value popularity over something that is less popular, but at the same time, you can't tell me the firearm selection and ammo cost isn't what it is. Reading this post over, I know, it sounds kind of snotty. You have a favorite place you like to buy ammo from? I use SGAmmo mostly, but I also check www.wikiarms.com/group/357Sig to check out other offerings.
While it is based on a 10mm auto case shortened and necked down to accept 0.355-inch (9.0 mm) bullets, the .357 SIG cartridge case is slightly longer than .40 S&W by 0.009 in (0.23 mm) to 0.020 in (0.51 mm) total. Most .40 S&W pistols can be converted to .357 SIG by replacing the barrel, but sometimes the recoil spring must be changed as well. Pistols with especially strong recoil springs can accept either cartridge with a barrel change. Magazines will freely interchange between the two cartridges in most pistols. .357 SIG barrel kits have allowed this cartridge to gain in popularity among handgun owners. However, the .357 SIG is loaded to higher pressures than the .40 S&W (the C.I.P. and the SAAMI pressure limits for .40 S&W are 225 MPa and 35,000 psi), and may not be suitable for use in all .40 S&W-chambered pistols due to the increase in bolt thrust.
Thanks for the video. An often overlooked cartridge. I bought a 357 Sig Mag for my 357 Sig barrel in my Glock 23. Waste of money as the 40 mags work fine. However I was getting stoppages using the 357 sig mag for 40. So just stick with 40 mags. I also bought a 9mm conversion barrel. For the 23. Had to buy mags of course but did not change the extractor. I’ve put several hundred 9mm through that configuration. Had one stovepipe with cheap ammo. Otherwise no problems. Three guns in one.
I own all three of these Glocks. Gen 3 my G32 is a G32c Compensated it is Glock factory ported. It is absolutely my favorite one to shoot because the recoil Feels like shooting 38 special out of 357 magnum revolver. Those of you with a 357 magnum will know exactly what I'm talking about. those without its just little to no felt recoil. You will send fire and gas about a foot to a foot 1/2 above your pistol when you shoot it. Daytime it's not even noticeable to me shooting it. Even though it's 4 or 5 years later thank you for the video
Just FYI... the Glock 27 recoil is MUCH snappier than the Glock 33. The Glock 33 is a great little gun. The only hesitation I would have is that touching off a 357 sig indoors without hearing protection is probably going to cause some damage where the 40 would be a bit less harmful to the hearing... but if you are worried about that, then the low pressure 45acp is the best for that.
I’ve carried a Glock 27 with a .357 conversion barrel since March 2018. Is hot my buddy’s Glock 32 months prior and was very impressed since then. I love shooting my subcompact.357 sig. In fact I’m picking up a Glock 32 this week since I have the holster and mags to carry it instead of carrying my Glock 19.
i absolutely love my Glock 33. The recoil isnt that bad, its weird to explain... and this is all of course in my personal experience and opinion. the .357 recoil is more along the lines of a .45, its not snappy like the .40cal, instead of it taking a beating on your wrists you feel the recoil flow through your hands and back twords your arms. im not very good at explaining it... but if you've ever shot a 40 and 45 its like shooting the .45 with a little more blast. i have the G19 21 33 36 and 42 and own a couple of more pistols and to me the G33 is actually one of the smoothest. maybe its because i have the Gen4 w/ the beaver tail extension and a pearce grip extension so it fits my hand like a glove but i thoroughly enjoy it. The cost of ammo isnt as bad as they say, i can pick up a box of 50 range rounds for 18.50. the self defense ammo is kind of steep but its not like youre going to be shooting that everyday.(hopefully) im going to have videos up soon
Someone probably mentioned it already, but the Glock .357 Sig series differs from the .40 in that the magazines have a small rib inside them, to guide the nose of the .357 rounds (just makes it more reliable). Also I think the mainsprings were a little bit more robust. But yea, barrel , mags are the only differences.
Oh wow! Thank you! I have a Bersa Thunder 380 and I’m considering picking up a Glock 33 and/or a Glock 31 with a RONI G2 Carbine conversion and a 16” 357 Sig barrel. You’ve answered my question on whether it would work, being that the barrels are same width (diameter).
Folks, if you bother to purchase a gun in this caliber PLEASE use Buffalo Bore or Underwood ammunition PERIOD! Now why do I say this? Because they are the only 2 manufacturers who can consistently achieve 1450-1530fps in this caliber for a 125gr bullet. Remington, Hornady, Federal, Speer, Corbon, Double Tap, etc. all come in around 1300 - 1350fps. So if you want 1300fps, then just shoot 9mm+P+. If you're not shooting the hot 357 Sig loads, then its pointless to even have that caliber in the first place.
Although I do the same thing and only shoot ammo that I produce, which sends a 125gr bullet at 1,500fps with a chamber pressure of only 34,000psi, I don't quite agree with your advice to just shoot 9mm +p+ if you're not going with full house .357. - First, the 9mm +p+ can only just barely kiss 1,300fps with a 115gr bullet, and that is from a pistol with a full length barrel. Even the most anemic, watered-down .357 Sig easily does that out of a shorter barrel and with a 125gr bullet. - More importantly, however, is that the .357 Sig pistols (particularly the Gen 4 models that use the stronger recoil spring assembly than the 9mm models) are designed from the ground up to take the higher chamber pressure, whereas the 9mms are not. I have personally seen several police MP5 SMGs that were completely ruined by fewer than 500 founds of the Federal 9BPLE (9mm +P+), and the recoil on those is brutal, as the guns, particularly the recoil systems, are not made to take that kind of slide/bolt velocity. Also, nobody makes practice ammo for 9mm with anything approaching +P+ velocities or similar recoil. Therefore, if you carry +P+ in a 9mm, you will likely practice with stuff that recoils much less, and then if you actually have to use your full power ammo in self defense, the different recoil will make you miss like crazy. This is why the Illinois State Police had such a miserable record in actual shootings compared to qualification and practice when they issued the 9mm +P+, and is the reason they switched to the .40.
Your story about the birth of the 357 Sig is completely wrong. The 357 Sig was created in 1994 as a response to an FBI request for a semi auto cartridge with the same performance as a 357 magnum out of a 4 inch revolver because of the magnum's proven reliability . Sig Sauer partnered with Federal Ammunition and designed the 357 Sig, which is essentially a 40 caliber cartridge with a 9mm projectile. It's called the 357 Sig because Sig Sauer was the lead company, and it's performance closely resembles the 357 magnum in 125 grain.
I have a Glock 31 357sig caliber. I converted it to .40 caliber with a barrel change. I then converted it to a 9mm with a bull barrel and a recoil spring and it takes glock 17 magazines . 3 calibers. One pistol
I didn't have no problem ordering my g32 barrel for my g23 from glock. They just asked for the serial # and then they e-mailed me a barrel form filled it up and fax it back to them. I asked them why they asked for the serial number. I was told they wanna make sure it's compatible for the conversion, they said all newer gen4 g23 is compatible. Mine was manufactured 12/2014.
And the 357 sig definitely has more recoil than 40S&W especially when you dont buy the watered down ammunition at 1350fps or less even the Speer ammo numbered 54234 that breaks over 1375fps youll start to feel the difference
I started with a Gen2 Glock 31 the week they became available. It is my favorite carry caliber, though in a Sig P229 Elite now. The ease of going to 40, even to 9 for the Glocks makes it a great choice. My 229 came with both 357 and 40 barrels and a complete 9mm upper. That's stout. And they offer a .22 upper for it as well. I'd be interested to know why, in the gel, you didn't choose different points of aim, even flip the block, to illustrate the difference in performance. The end result looks like a shotgun blast with 3 pellets of 000
357 Sig = 9mm MAGNUM, & if it had been named as such, it would have been a lot more popular (especially these days ha!). People say 9mm is equal to 357sig... BS!! 357Sig hits a lot harder.
I recently picked up a glock 32 gen 4 , it was new a guy ordered it put 200 down , he never came back for 4 months ,it was hard for dealer to sell so i traded him even for my gen 4 glock _17 . Only thing was it had 10 round magazines but was new . I think i did well.
Thanks for the video. I think .357 round is great. I did the other way around. Glock 40’s (23 and 27) to 357 Sig. in the Glock I found the 40 cartridge does not feed well in the .357 magazine but .357 Sig feeds fine in the .40 magazine.
Curious why you said you wouldn't buy any of these 3 models? Wouldn't it be better to buy a .357 sig caliber and the get a .40 barrel after? I heard the .357 sig magazines had more reliability vs .40 magazines.
If your desire is to have 3 different calibers, but one weapon, then the direction for your quest is the Glock 20/29/40. It is the 10mm that is the father to both the .357 SIG and the .40 cal. The 10mm and the .40 cal are the same bullet and both will fire out of the stock Glock 20/29/40. The only thing you would need to change to make your pistol a .357 SIG would be the barrel.
"Crash Test", the Glock .357 SIG and the .40 cal are both built on 9mm frames. Whereas, the 10mm and the .45 cal are built on the same frame. Which caliber claims ownership of the frame is irrelevant. Both are stronger than the 9mm when incorporating a higher caliber round in the upper. With regard to Flex and Kaboom, yes that may be a definite possibility after considerable wear and tear coming from the .357 SIG and the .40 cal rounds imposing their strengths over the 9mm frames. But on the 10mm? Not happenin', But you and your buddy keep testing his 10, with some quality ammo, and you let me know when it Kaboom's in one or both of your hands.
357 sig in sub compact is more snappy and the 40sw pushs back more in my opinion but thats 125 grain vs 180 grain when i fired 135grain 40sw cor bon power ball it felt equally snappy as the 125 grain 357 sig. Because the 40 can fire bullet weights down in the 130 to 150 range plus its normal 165 to 180 range i almost wonder what purpose the 357 sig has
did you get a velocity difference between the 3? i would like to see that. i was surprised that the expansion and penetration were about equal. great video.
This actually is a very good round for animals...Maybe not for a grizzly or something monstrous like that but it did a number on my mule deer in Northern Nevada out of my glock 32 with underwood 125 grn bonded rounds...Blew the lung out of it about 10 yards away and it died very quickly.....
Because one barrel has a .40-size hole down it and one has a .357-size hold down it. (approximate size holes, I haven't measured exact). Also, different chambers -- the cases, though *kind of the same*, are different, and so they have different chambers. There are a couple of other difference in the case, but to keep it simple: the .40 case is based off the 10mm case, though it's shorter in length. The .357 SIG case is a necked-down 10mm case, not a .40 case. If a .40 case were necked-down, it would be too short, so the 10mm case is used. (I believe there are also differences in wall thickness as well). Also, the magazine is mostly the same, but they do have different followers. You can use a .40 magazine for the .357 SIG, but it might not be as reliable as one with the proper follower. Though, I've used .40 aftermarket Glock magazines with my .357 and haven't had any feed issues at all.
actually its the 10mm AUTO shortened then necked because the casing of .40 SW has thinner walls than 357SIG or 10mm. You theoretically could make 357 SIG casing out of 10mm casing but trying to do the same with .40 would be VERY bad idea
I have the same gun. I'm plan on changing the barrel to a Glock 23 barrel so I can shoot 40 Caliber. Where could I purchase barrel and ammo for it from ?
.357 sig would be a great round for a black bear ...cougar.... pig.... and so on.... dont understand where he gets it's a great caliber for humans not animals..
I like the video but the 357 Sig is Not a 40 cal casing. It is thicker than a 40 cal casing and longer if you go sizing down s 40 cal case and hand loading you put your life in your own hands especially if your making hot loads.
Both the .357 SIG and the .40 cal are the offspring of the 10mm. So, if you might desire the possibility, should there be the need, for 3 separate caliber weapons, then Glock 20/29/40 is KING.
Converted my glock 22 into a 17 with a 9mm conversion barrel (Wolf) I just bought a 33 but I could have turned my 22 into a 31 with a conversion barrel. #glocktalk
It's definitely fun too shoot i hate the 40 to damn snappy i bought me a 32 lonewolf barrel for my 23 an said hell with the 40. worst round I've ever shot.
I disliked the 31. I found it very uncomfortable to shoot, but my carry 33 is much easier for me. I don't see a big difference in recoil between my 33 and my Glock 43X.
And if your state limits you to unrealistic less than 10 rounds in your magazine the. The Glock 33 has only 9 and can shoot a subsonic equal to a subsonic 9mm. Shalom.
just a question is the 9 millimeter and the 357 Sig are the same bullet why can't you just shoot a 9 millimeter bullet through the Glock buy swapping out the clips to hold the round
The last 30 seconds of this video aren't exactly a ringing endorsement for the 357 Sig. NONE of those shots from the G31,32, or 33 penetrate 12" of gel (the FBI minimum standard). The problem is the round is moving too fast & dumps all it's energy in the first 8 inches. The violent expansion is slowing down the bullet too quickly. Also, why 147gr 9mm's can penetrate 15"........it's a slower heavier bullet with less expansion, but with far deeper penetration.
Isn’t that a hilarious irony! Sig cannot even reach 12” of penetration in their own caliber! Seems like most manufacturers can do this - even in the some of the under-powered versions... Federal LE HST 125gr is my preferred EDC load. Underwood bonded is my #2 choice...
Do some research on the round and the laws of physics and what not and it tell us reality. Facts and science say the 357 sig is superior in ever way possible when it comes to handgun caliber. Regardless of at 3 yards away or 100 yards away real 357 sig loads will kill you dead and it’s flat shooting which makes you far more accurate at range against a target at 50,75,100 yards. Can you do that with 9mm,40 cal, or 45 acp. Most 357 sig ammo at FPS or muzzle energy tells you all you need to know.
The feeders are different from the 40 mag compared to the 357. I speak from using both as I took my 27, put in a 357 glock barrel. Out of 50 rounds 3 jams. I carry my 40 sw for security details, only shoot 357 for fun.
Yes they are Im sick and tired of hearing ppl say mags are 100% "interchangeable" Ive had my share of hang ups with using 40S&W magazines inside my Glock 31
With my Glock 31, in order for me to shoot a .40 and 9mm cal, I have to to change the barrel for each caliber, or I can shoot a 9mm with the G31 barrel?
+dknollRX7 The Armorer's manual says there isn't anything to change to -- the G31 and G22 both use the same exact recoil spring (as do both compacts and both sub-compacts). So you don't have to worry about it with Glock. Wikipedia says in some handguns you do, other's you don't. Glad Glock doesn't. I actually bought a Glock OEM .357 Sig barrel to put in my G22, but haven't even used it yet.
+762x51n8o Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question. I appreciate it. I'm thinking about picking up a G32, but just thought I'd ask that question out of my own curiosity.
Sorry, u just said this gun is bigger than these two. No stats on the gun differences. You stated expansion is the same in all 3 models. Clearly not the case just in looking at them. You didn't measure the differences in the expansion from each gun. This could have been a fantastic video that the community would look to as a guideline on these three models. Instead, you took the lazy way out and now it is just another gun video. Who cares ???
Obviously you must care, since you're sending me love notes. - Did I say "expansion is the same", or did I say, "expansion was uniform. With not THAT MUCH of a difference."? You're right, I could have got more technical, with calibers and exact measurements, but I honestly didn't see a reason to do that. In all honesty, if I were to shoot something alive, with a handgun, do you think a difference of 0.02 will make a difference? Maybe I'm in error to think this way, but I don't. I don't even think the difference between 0.357 and 0.450 makes that much of a different. I don't. What matters is where that .357 or .450 hits on the object I'm shooting at. I love discussing this stuff, and you bring up great points on how I could have done this video better. But I'm very approachable and open to constructive criticism, so in the future, just discuss it with me without the condescension and dismissiveness.
The feeding of the .357 sig is unbelievable & never ever jams !
I have Glock 31 .357 sig & in my opinion .357 sig is the best round available! Velocity equal power & with Underwood ammo velocity is hair over 1500 FPS ! Lethal round best home defense round & it copies the 🔥 out the barrel like the magnum.

Less recoil, more accurate.

I'd be interested to know why, in the gel, you didn't choose different points of aim, even flip the block, to illustrate the difference in performance. The end result looks like a shotgun blast with 3 pellets of 000
I agree about the Walther PPK. I enjoy shooting .44 Mag, but .380 out of a PPK cut and bruised the webbing of my hand. I actually had to sell the gun.
I have the same set with wolf barrels for 40,9mm barrels :)))
Don’t know if it’s necessary, but the magazine followers are different between the 40 S&W and the 357 SIG.
Love my G31
In addition to the name... I feel if it were marketed as 9mm magnum it would have taken off more ..
Its a necked down 10mm. That’s why the case is longer.
The only drawback is ammo, went to Academy and I could only find 2 boxes of Remington umm in the whole store
Get ppu
Why have I just now come across this video
Good video.
Thank you. Stay Vigilant.
Great channel bud. Glad a came across it. Take care.
+Spec-Operator 4 Thank you, I appreciate it
Curious why you said you wouldn't buy any of these 3 models?
Not happenin',
But you and your buddy keep testing his 10, with some quality ammo, and you let me know when it Kaboom's in one or both of your hands.
I actually wanted the 32, but the grip was to small for me, didn´t like it, so I switched to the 31.
Love the 357 sig but I would rather go with the glock 20 10mm
G20 is just too fat for my hands is the reason I turned it down so went with the sig.
GLOCK FTW!!!!!!!!!
The cost between 357 and 40 glock is almost the same.
Where there any velocity differences between the three different barrel length? If so what was it?
This actually is a very good round for animals...Maybe not for a grizzly or something monstrous like that but it did a number on my mule deer in Northern Nevada out of my glock 32 with underwood 125 grn bonded rounds...Blew the lung out of it about 10 yards away and it died very quickly.....
The .357 is a 40cal case necked down to a 9mm bullet
Isn't that what I said in the video?
762x51n8o I jumped the gun when you were first talking about the round :(((
krazy45cat Oh, OK, I just wanted to make sure I did say that in the video, and didn't accidentally edit that part out.
essentially, but they have a thicker case now.
If the .40 S&W and .357 Sig are so similar, why do you even have to change the barrel? You don’t have to change the magazine. Thank you.
Love me my FNS 40 w/efk conversion bbl to .357Sig 😁
Just be careful when you buy a 357 conversion barrel for your e.g. Glock 40 cal 40 cal as some will not feed right no matter what.
.357sig is a necked-down 10mm.
That would be a 9x25 Dillon. The .40 cal is a shortened 10mm and the .357 SIG is a necked down .40 cal cartridge to accept the 9mm round.
actually its the 10mm AUTO shortened then necked because the casing of .40 SW has thinner walls than 357SIG or 10mm.
You theoretically could make 357 SIG casing out of 10mm casing but trying to do the same with .40 would be VERY bad idea
Jared white ... nope, nope. .40S&W is too short to neck down to make .357Sig. The sig round also has a reinforced web that the S&W Case dont have.
Jared white is there something wrong with you? Case lenth excapes you for some reason. And web reinforcement
Johnny Lewis 9mm on a necked down 50BMG
I have the same gun. I'm plan on changing the barrel to a Glock 23 barrel so I can shoot 40 Caliber. Where could I purchase barrel and ammo for it from ?
I.Love.my.Glock.31.357.sig
Good one
Good info/video. Thanks
G32 goes with me daly
.357 sig would be a great round for a black bear ...cougar.... pig.... and so on.... dont understand where he gets it's a great caliber for humans not animals..
I think the 357 sig is the best caliber for armies and navies and some special police forces
Converted my glock 22 into a 17 with a 9mm conversion barrel (Wolf) I just bought a 33 but I could have turned my 22 into a 31 with a conversion barrel. #glocktalk
It's definitely fun too shoot i hate the 40 to damn snappy i bought me a 32 lonewolf barrel for my 23 an said hell with the 40. worst round I've ever shot.
yea I'm gonna buy a .357 sig barrel for my M&P .40 and be done with the .40
I think it will go the way of 38 Super, wont die but not gain high popularity. 45 GAP will die out.
Shalom.
The 125 grain bullet get the same speeds and fps as 357 magnum in 125 grains.
Not even close lol
My 33 kicks like a mule
just a question is the 9 millimeter and the 357 Sig are the same bullet why can't you just shoot a 9 millimeter bullet through the Glock buy swapping out the clips to hold the round
It's a completely different case. The .357 Sig uses a .40 S&W case that's been necked down. Way higher pressures.
It’s so uncomfortable to watch you readjust after every shot geez
The last 30 seconds of this video aren't exactly a ringing endorsement for the 357 Sig. NONE of those shots from the G31,32, or 33 penetrate 12" of gel (the FBI minimum standard). The problem is the round is moving too fast & dumps all it's energy in the first 8 inches. The violent expansion is slowing down the bullet too quickly. Also, why 147gr 9mm's can penetrate 15"........it's a slower heavier bullet with less expansion, but with far deeper penetration.
Do that same test with a Speer 125gr GDHP from Buffalo Bore and you will see the results you are looking for,
Isn’t that a hilarious irony! Sig cannot even reach 12” of penetration in their own caliber! Seems like most manufacturers can do this - even in the some of the under-powered versions... Federal LE HST 125gr is my preferred EDC load. Underwood bonded is my #2 choice...
Most of your production 357 sig cartridges are almost always anemic compared to the true to form screaming fast 357 sig cartridges as it was intended.
It is good that we went out and tried it to see what is the truth. They jam up some times.
Clear Combat Self Defense and Fighting System glad I saw this as I will not buy a g27?mag to carry I practice with a g22 and a g23 mag
I love my Glock 32 gen 3 . The 357 sig is based off of the 10 mm not the 40 S&W.
I WANT G.32
With my Glock 31, in order for me to shoot a .40 and 9mm cal, I have to to change the
barrel for each caliber, or I can shoot a 9mm with the G31 barrel?
manny jones You cannot. The barrel must be changed. Different chamber.
+762x51n8o Do you also have to change the recoil spring with the barrel to accommodate for the different pressures?
+dknollRX7 You're welcome. No problem, I appreciate you watching my video and taking the time to comment.
.40 cal is to small to stretch safely .40 is 35,000 psi and 357 is 40,000 psi. Not the same or do they come from each other.
It's a necked down 10 mm
