I love this channel. I’ve added comments before and these are respectfully meant from my experience with this round and 10mm. 10mm and 357 Sig hot load info
For those of you mad scientists who reload and want to make 10mm and 357 Sig great again…..
Fwiw I found on some forums (YMMV) 2 loads which, in THIS gun (10mm G40 Klone 6.61” LWD threaded (and LWD 40cal 3-vertical-port comp) compensated barrel + 22# RSA in a 6” longslide) “are supposed to” do 1400fps with Hornady 180gn XTPs. CCI LPP’s, Starline brass, heavy Lee FCD crimp, and coal is 1.260”.
    ETS 15-rd magazines used.
    Hodgdon powders used were:
    9.7gns Longshot
    And
    17gns Lil Gun.
NOTE: these are over max published loads and flattened primers, but they ran in MY gun AS CONFIGURED. They ejected 6-10’ away. They were accurate enough at conversational distances. I’ve shot them and they are confy to shoot IN MY GUN AS CONFIGURED. The compensator makes a huge difference! I dont have a chronograph so I am estimating the velocities based on what forum shooters reported from their guns. Point being….to me it was worth it to try carefully building up these loads. Shot at approx 5,000’ elevation.
Likewise in 357 Sig I use the Speer GDHP with Hodgdon Longshot 9.5gn, federal small pistol primers, asst brass, the Speer GDHP 125gn JHP coal is 1.140” COAL, shot the load in 5.85” G35 compensated (LWD ultra jillion port comp) conversion barrel is 1643fps as per what other forum shooters got, as I have no chronograph these are estimates but were safe in my gun. Load also safe in G23 with a G32 357Sig threaded and compensated (LWD 40comp as above on the 10mm) barrel as were the above 10mm and 357 Sig longslide) 4-1/2” barrel, 22# Wolff RSA and unknown velocities.
    YMMV!

Out of 5 and 6 inch barrels the 357 Sig produces velocities well into the 1600s, so just pick the barrel needed. These aftermarket barrels fit nicely in a G31.

From these test results looks like the overall "best" performance came from the 4 inch 32....largest stretch cavity...and largest final expanded diameter....the 357sig was originally mated with the sig p229 357sig with a 3.9 inch or so barrel....looks like the 357sig gold dot was optimized for about a 4 inch barrel....🤔 G32 about as perfect of a ccw you can holster!!!

Outstanding presentation, Az. I know that the 54234 isn't loaded as hot as some of the Underwood stuff but I think this loading and velocities hits the sweet spot for .357SIG. You get both a superb temporary and permanent wound track while also getting exceptional penetration. Excellent work, bromigo.

Thanks. I really appreciate all your time and efforts on this. It’s great to see the same round out of the three main Glocks. The old 125gr/357Mag had great street results back in the day. The 124gr/357Sig seems to share those results, with less recoil, more rounds per gun load, and less weight. For whatever reasons, velocity has an effect in real life, and the 357s demonstrate that. In a smaller, handier, frame size than the 10mm or 45ACP. Thanks again.

In 2008 I went to buy my first pistol. I was dead set on 9 mm. The guy at the store showed me a pistol he personally owned and just so happened this pistol was being discontinued by the manufacturer. I ended up buying the 8357 Beretta Cougar in 357 sig. For a close out price of 395.00 dollars. I still use that gun for EDC. I admit its only eleven rounds but it uses .40/ 357 caliber mags and it will knock a bad person on their butt . No sig 357 should be sold unless it is made of steal to reduce recoil and increase accuracy. Glocks are okay in 357 sig at less than thirty feet but my Beretta is a small frame 1911 style all steal Widowmaker out to thirty yards plus

The .357 Sig is designed to equal the .357 magnum from a 4"barrel revolver BUT keep in mind that 4" in a revolver IS JUST THE BARREL LENGTH. A semi auto also includes the chamber so 4" in a semi is about equal to 3" in a revolver. A 5" semi auto barrel is about the same barrel length as a "4 revolver barrel.

These 357 Sig do not disappoint. Gold Dots don't either. Impressive all the way around. The only negatives I can consider in choosing the 357 Sig over the 9mm in comparable guns is slightly less capacity, slightly more recoil, much less ammo availability and considerably more expensive per round. All of which are manageable to a certain degree. Excellent test and very well executed. Those stills are so revealing. Many thanks. This is a very good protocol to use for comparison when possible.

Speer Gold Dots are watered down, the bullet is a good design but they down loaded the ammunition. The old Remington Golden Sabers used to loaded with 125 gr bullet velocities between 1400 - 1450 fps from a Glock 32 (~4" barrel). BuffaloBore and CorBon still maintain near 1450 fps using a 125 gr bullet shot out of a 4" barrel. DoubleTap and Underwood use to, I don't know if they still do. BuffaloBore, DoubleTap, and Underwood load the 125gr 6 petal Gold Dot bullets as many smaller ammunition reloaders/manufacturers.

Summa Summarum 1362 feet/ second is best for energy transfer with that particular caliber/ weight combination. Theoretically a 147 grain Federal HST would have little better energy transfer in 357 SIG especially in longer barrels but 147s are build for subsonic speed. Theoretically.... 1400 feet/ second seems to be the max for conventional bullet design because the petals would bend too much and decrease the energy transfer. What we learn from this? A cheap old G22 or even the compact Glock 23 with modern copper buffalo bore ammo will outperform that expensive 357 SIG ammo any day. A custom G27 with longer barrel would even be the most effective CCW ever tested with that 125 or 140 grains copper Buffalo Bore ammo. Energy transfer is the key point.

      no it won't
there isn't any evidence of this and BB ammo isn't cheap either

On the Buffalo Bore website the solid copper hollow points in .357sig and .40 S&W are both loaded to 1425 fps and 565 foot pounds of energy with a 125gr bullet. The .40 also is loaded with a 140gr bullet at 1300 fps and 525 foot pounds of energy. And they are all about the same price. I'm sure all would perform great, just what caliber you carry or prefer.

They really have been. Maybe I'll do a re-test with HST's. Should be a fun one. Thanks as always!!

Sweet test, thanks! Any chance you can get your hands on the copper 115gr from Doubletap? I’m curious how those would perform out of the 33. Possibly reduced recoil with similar penetration? They also have a 180gr that looks interesting for a bear/woods load.

I just purchased a couple of boxes of the Double Tap 115gr solid copper hollow points. Haven't been able to make it to the range yet. But everything I have seen the solid copper hollow points really perform great. I'm thinking it will have amazing expansion, but a little less depth due to the massive amount of energy. I'm sure it will be a awesome self defense round. You have a wonderful day.
